KJV ¹⁴ But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.

KJV ¹⁵ And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.

KJV ¹⁶ Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.

VULC ¹⁶ Jubeat dominus noster, et servi tui qui coram te sunt quærent hominem scientem psallere cithara, ut quando arripuerit te spiritus Domini malus, psallat manu sua, et levius feras.

KJV ¹⁷ And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.

VULC ¹⁷ Et ait Saul ad servos suos : Providete ergo mihi aliquem bene psallentem, et adducite eum ad me.

WLC ¹⁷ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר שָׁא֖וּל אֶל־ עֲבָדָ֑יו רְאוּ־ נָ֣א לִ֗י אִ֚ישׁ מֵיטִ֣יב לְנַגֵּ֔ן וַהֲבִיאוֹתֶ֖ם אֵלָֽי׃

KJV ¹⁸ Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him.

KJV ¹⁹ Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep.

KJV ²⁰ And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.

VULC ²⁰ Tulit itaque Isai asinum plenum panibus, et lagenam vini, et hædum de capris unum, et misit per manum David filii sui Sauli.

WLC ²⁰ וַיִּקַּ֨ח יִשַׁ֜י חֲמ֥וֹר לֶ֙חֶם֙ וְנֹ֣אד יַ֔יִן וּגְדִ֥י עִזִּ֖ים אֶחָ֑ד וַיִּשְׁלַ֛ח בְּיַד־ דָּוִ֥ד בְּנ֖וֹ אֶל־ שָׁאֽוּל׃

KJV ²¹ And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.

VULC ²¹ Et venit David ad Saul, et stetit coram eo : at ille dilexit eum nimis, et factus est ejus armiger.

WLC ²¹ וַיָּבֹ֤א דָוִד֙ אֶל־ שָׁא֔וּל וַֽיַּעֲמֹ֖ד לְפָנָ֑יו וַיֶּאֱהָבֵ֣הֽוּ מְאֹ֔ד וַֽיְהִי־ ל֖וֹ נֹשֵׂ֥א כֵלִֽים׃

KJV ²² And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.

VULC ²² Misitque Saul ad Isai, dicens : Stet David in conspectu meo : invenit enim gratiam in oculis meis.

WLC ²² וַיִּשְׁלַ֣ח שָׁא֔וּל אֶל־ יִשַׁ֖י לֵאמֹ֑ר יַעֲמָד־ נָ֤א דָוִד֙ לְפָנַ֔י כִּֽי־ מָ֥צָא חֵ֖ן בְּעֵינָֽי׃

KJV ²³ And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

VULC ²³ Igitur quandocumque spiritus Domini malus arripiebat Saul, David tollebat citharam, et percutiebat manu sua, et refocillabatur Saul, et levius habebat : recedebat enim ab eo spiritus malus.

WLC ²³ וְהָיָ֗ה בִּֽהְי֤וֹת רֽוּחַ־ אֱלֹהִים֙ אֶל־ שָׁא֔וּל וְלָקַ֥ח דָּוִ֛ד אֶת־ הַכִּנּ֖וֹר וְנִגֵּ֣ן בְּיָד֑וֹ וְרָוַ֤ח לְשָׁאוּל֙ וְט֣וֹב ל֔וֹ וְסָ֥רָה מֵעָלָ֖יו ר֥וּחַ הָרָעָֽה׃
