KJV ¹ And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of Engedi.

KJV ² Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.

OST ² Et quand Saül fut revenu de la poursuite des Philistins, on lui fit ce rapport, en disant: Voilà David qui est au désert d'En-Guédi.

VULC ² Cumque reversus esset Saul, postquam persecutus est Philisthæos, nuntiaverunt ei, dicentes : Ecce David in deserto est Engaddi.

KJV ³ And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave.

OST ³ Alors Saül prit trois mille hommes, choisis de tout Israël, et s'en alla chercher David et ses gens, jusque sur les rochers des chamois.

VULC ³ Assumens ergo Saul tria millia electorum virorum ex omni Israël, perrexit ad investigandum David et viros ejus, etiam super abruptissimas petras, quæ solis ibicibus perviæ sunt.

KJV ⁴ And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily.

OST ⁴ Et il vint aux parcs des brebis, auprès du chemin, et il y avait là une caverne, dans laquelle Saül entra pour ses nécessités; et David et ses gens se tenaient au fond de la caverne.

VULC ⁴ Et venit ad caulas ovium, quæ se offerebant vianti : eratque ibi spelunca, quam ingressus est Saul ut purgaret ventrem : porro David et viri ejus in interiore parte speluncæ latebant.

KJV ⁵ And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt.

OST ⁵ Et les gens de David lui dirent: Voici le jour dont l'Éternel t'a dit: Je livre ton ennemi entre tes mains; tu lui feras comme il te semblera bon. Et David se leva et coupa tout doucement le pan du manteau de Saül.

VULC ⁵ Et dixerunt servi David ad eum : Ecce dies de qua locutus est Dominus ad te : Ego tradam tibi inimicum tuum, ut facias ei sicut placuerit in oculis tuis. Surrexit ergo David, et præcidit oram chlamydis Saul silenter.

KJV ⁶ And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD's anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.

OST ⁶ Mais, après cela, David fut ému en son coeur de ce qu'il avait coupé le pan du manteau de Saül,

VULC ⁶ Post hæc percussit cor suum David, eo quod abscidisset oram chlamydis Saul.

KJV ⁷ So David stayed his servants with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

OST ⁷ Et il dit à ses gens: Que l'Éternel me garde de commettre contre mon seigneur, contre l'oint de l'Éternel, une action telle que de porter ma main sur lui! car il est l'oint de l'Éternel.

VULC ⁷ Dixitque ad viros suos : Propitius sit mihi Dominus, ne faciam hanc rem domino meo, christo Domini, ut mittam manum meam in eum : quia christus Domini est.

KJV ⁸ David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.

OST ⁸ Et David arrêta ses gens par ces paroles, et il ne leur permit point de s'élever contre Saül. Puis Saül se leva de la caverne, et continua son chemin.

VULC ⁸ Et confregit David viros suos sermonibus, et non permisit eos ut consurgerent in Saul : porro Saul exsurgens de spelunca, pergebat cœpto itinere.
