KJV ¹ And it came to pass, when Saul was returned from following the Philistines, that it was told him, saying, Behold, David is in the wilderness of Engedi.

S21 ¹ De là David monta vers les falaises d'En-Guédi, où il habita.

VULC ¹ Ascendit ergo David inde : et habitavit in locis tutissimis Engaddi.

KJV ² Then Saul took three thousand chosen men out of all Israel, and went to seek David and his men upon the rocks of the wild goats.

S21 ² Lorsque Saül fut de retour après avoir poursuivi les Philistins, on vint lui dire: «David est dans le désert d'En-Guédi.»

VULC ² Cumque reversus esset Saul, postquam persecutus est Philisthæos, nuntiaverunt ei, dicentes : Ecce David in deserto est Engaddi.

KJV ³ And he came to the sheepcotes by the way, where was a cave; and Saul went in to cover his feet: and David and his men remained in the sides of the cave.

S21 ³ Saül prit 3000 hommes d'élite choisis sur tout Israël, et il alla à la recherche de David et de ses hommes jusque sur les rochers des bouquetins.

VULC ³ Assumens ergo Saul tria millia electorum virorum ex omni Israël, perrexit ad investigandum David et viros ejus, etiam super abruptissimas petras, quæ solis ibicibus perviæ sunt.

KJV ⁴ And the men of David said unto him, Behold the day of which the LORD said unto thee, Behold, I will deliver thine enemy into thine hand, that thou mayest do to him as it shall seem good unto thee. Then David arose, and cut off the skirt of Saul's robe privily.

S21 ⁴ Il arriva à des parcs à brebis, qui étaient près du chemin. Là se trouvait une grotte, où il entra pour satisfaire un besoin naturel.
David et ses hommes se trouvaient au fond de la grotte.

VULC ⁴ Et venit ad caulas ovium, quæ se offerebant vianti : eratque ibi spelunca, quam ingressus est Saul ut purgaret ventrem : porro David et viri ejus in interiore parte speluncæ latebant.

KJV ⁵ And it came to pass afterward, that David's heart smote him, because he had cut off Saul's skirt.

S21 ⁵ Les hommes de David lui dirent: «Voici le jour où l'Eternel te dit: ‘Je livre ton ennemi entre tes mains; traite-le comme tu le jugeras bon.'» David se leva et coupa doucement le pan du manteau de Saül.

VULC ⁵ Et dixerunt servi David ad eum : Ecce dies de qua locutus est Dominus ad te : Ego tradam tibi inimicum tuum, ut facias ei sicut placuerit in oculis tuis. Surrexit ergo David, et præcidit oram chlamydis Saul silenter.

KJV ⁶ And he said unto his men, The LORD forbid that I should do this thing unto my master, the LORD's anointed, to stretch forth mine hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the LORD.

S21 ⁶ Après cela il sentit son cœur battre, parce qu'il avait coupé le pan du manteau de Saül.

VULC ⁶ Post hæc percussit cor suum David, eo quod abscidisset oram chlamydis Saul.

KJV ⁷ So David stayed his servants with these words, and suffered them not to rise against Saul. But Saul rose up out of the cave, and went on his way.

S21 ⁷ Il dit à ses hommes: «Que l'Eternel me garde de commettre une telle action contre mon seigneur, celui que l'Eternel a désigné par onction! Qu'il me garde de porter la main contre lui, car il est celui que l'Eternel a désigné par onction.»

VULC ⁷ Dixitque ad viros suos : Propitius sit mihi Dominus, ne faciam hanc rem domino meo, christo Domini, ut mittam manum meam in eum : quia christus Domini est.

KJV ⁸ David also arose afterward, and went out of the cave, and cried after Saul, saying, My lord the king. And when Saul looked behind him, David stooped with his face to the earth, and bowed himself.

S21 ⁸ Par ces paroles David arrêta ses hommes et les empêcha de se jeter sur Saül.
Puis Saül se leva pour sortir de la grotte et continua son chemin.

VULC ⁸ Et confregit David viros suos sermonibus, et non permisit eos ut consurgerent in Saul : porro Saul exsurgens de spelunca, pergebat cœpto itinere.
