KJV ¹² And there ran a man of Benjamin out of the army, and came to Shiloh the same day with his clothes rent, and with earth upon his head.

KJV ¹³ And when he came, lo, Eli sat upon a seat by the wayside watching: for his heart trembled for the ark of God. And when the man came into the city, and told it, all the city cried out.

OST ¹³ Et comme il arrivait, voici, Héli était assis sur son siège à côté du chemin, en attente; car son coeur tremblait à cause de l'arche de Dieu. Cet homme entra donc dans la ville pour porter ces nouvelles, et toute la ville se mit à crier.

VULC ¹³ Cumque ille venisset, Heli sedebat super sellam contra viam spectans. Erat enim cor ejus pavens pro arca Dei. Vir autem ille postquam ingressus est, nuntiavit urbi : et ululavit omnis civitas.

KJV ¹⁴ And when Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, What meaneth the noise of this tumult? And the man came in hastily, and told Eli.

OST ¹⁴ Et Héli, entendant ces clameurs, dit: Que veut dire ce bruit, ce tumulte? Et cet homme, se hâtant, vint à Héli, et lui raconta tout.

VULC ¹⁴ Et audivit Heli sonitum clamoris, dixitque : Quis est hic sonitus tumultus hujus ? At ille festinavit, et venit, et nuntiavit Heli.

KJV ¹⁵ Now Eli was ninety and eight years old; and his eyes were dim, that he could not see.

OST ¹⁵ Or, Héli était âgé de quatre-vingt-dix-huit ans, et ses yeux étaient fixes, et il ne pouvait plus voir.

VULC ¹⁵ Heli autem erat nonaginta et octo annorum, et oculi ejus caligaverant, et videre non poterat.

KJV ¹⁶ And the man said unto Eli, I am he that came out of the army, and I fled to day out of the army. And he said, What is there done, my son?

OST ¹⁶ L'homme dit donc à Héli: C'est moi qui viens de la bataille; et je me suis échappé de la bataille aujourd'hui. Et Héli dit: Qu'est-il arrivé, mon fils?

VULC ¹⁶ Et dixit ad Heli : Ego sum qui veni de prælio, et ego qui de acie fugi hodie. Cui ille ait : Quid actum est, fili mi ?

KJV ¹⁷ And the messenger answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken.

OST ¹⁷ Et celui qui apportait les nouvelles répondit, et dit: Israël a fui devant les Philistins; et même il y a eu une grande défaite parmi le peuple, et tes deux fils, Hophni et Phinées, sont morts aussi, et l'arche de Dieu a été prise.

VULC ¹⁷ Respondens autem ille qui nuntiabat : Fugit, inquit, Israël coram Philisthiim, et ruina magna facta est in populo : insuper et duo filii tui mortui sunt, Ophni et Phinees, et arca Dei capta est.

KJV ¹⁸ And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.

OST ¹⁸ Et dès qu'il eut fait mention de l'arche de Dieu, Héli tomba à la renverse de dessus son siège, à côté de la porte, et il se rompit le cou, et mourut; car c'était un homme vieux et pesant. Il avait jugé Israël quarante ans.

VULC ¹⁸ Cumque ille nominasset arcam Dei, cecidit de sella retrorsum juxta ostium, et fractis cervicibus mortuus est. Senex enim erat vir et grandævus : et ipse judicavit Israël quadraginta annis.
