KJV ¹⁸ And there were three sons of Zeruiah there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe.

VULC ¹⁸ Erant autem ibi tres filii Sarviæ, Joab, et Abisai, et Asaël : porro Asaël cursor velocissimus fuit, quasi unus de capreis quæ morantur in silvis.

KJV ¹⁹ And Asahel pursued after Abner; and in going he turned not to the right hand nor to the left from following Abner.

MAR ¹⁹ Et Hasaël poursuivit Abner, sans se détourner à droite ni à gauche d'après Abner.

VULC ¹⁹ Persequebatur autem Asaël Abner, et non declinavit ad dextram neque ad sinistram omittens persequi Abner.

KJV ²⁰ Then Abner looked behind him, and said, Art thou Asahel? And he answered, I am.

MAR ²⁰ Abner donc regardant derrière soi, dit : Es-tu Hasaël ? et [Hasaël] répondit : Je le suis.

VULC ²⁰ Respexit itaque Abner post tergum suum, et ait : Tune es Asaël ? Qui respondit : Ego sum.

KJV ²¹ And Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thy right hand or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young men, and take thee his armour. But Asahel would not turn aside from following of him.

MAR ²¹ Et Abner lui dit : Détourne-toi à droite ou à gauche, et saisis-toi de l'un de ces jeunes gens, et prends sa dépouille pour toi. Mais Hasaël ne voulut point se détourner de lui.

VULC ²¹ Dixitque ei Abner : Vade ad dextram, sive ad sinistram, et apprehende unum de adolescentibus, et tolle tibi spolia ejus. Noluit autem Asaël omittere quin urgeret eum.

KJV ²² And Abner said again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to Joab thy brother?

MAR ²² Et Abner continuait à dire à Hasaël : Détourne-toi de moi ; pourquoi te jetterais-je mort par terre ? et comment oserais-je paraître devant Joab ton frère ?

VULC ²² Rursumque locutus est Abner ad Asaël : Recede, noli me sequi, ne compellar confodere te in terram, et levare non potero faciem meam ad Joab fratrem tuum.

KJV ²³ Howbeit he refused to turn aside: wherefore Abner with the hinder end of the spear smote him under the fifth rib, that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same place: and it came to pass, that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still.

MAR ²³ Mais il ne voulut jamais se détourner ; et Abner le frappa de sa hallebarde à la cinquième côte du bout de derrière, tellement que sa hallebarde lui sortait par derrière, et il tomba là roide mort sur la place ; et tous ceux qui venaient à l'endroit où Hasaël était tombé mort, s'arrêtaient.

VULC ²³ Qui audire contempsit, et noluit declinare : percussit ergo eum Abner aversa hasta in inguine, et transfodit, et mortuus est in eodem loco : omnesque qui transibant per locum illum, in quo ceciderat Asaël et mortuus erat, subsistebant.

KJV ²⁴ Joab also and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sun went down when they were come to the hill of Ammah, that lieth before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.

MAR ²⁴ Joab donc et Abisaï poursuivirent Abner, et le soleil se coucha quand ils arrivèrent au coteau d'Amma, qui est vis-à-vis de Gujah, au chemin du désert de Gabaon.

VULC ²⁴ Persequentibus autem Joab et Abisai fugientem Abner, sol occubuit : et venerunt usque ad collem aquæductus, qui est ex adverso vallis itineris deserti in Gabaon.
