DRB ¹ Et il se rencontra là un homme de Bélial, son nom était Shéba, fils de Bicri, Benjaminite ; et il sonna de la trompette, et dit : Nous n'avons point de part en David, ni d'héritage dans le fils d'Isaï.

DRB ² Chacun à sa tente, Israël ! Et tous les hommes d'Israël, se séparant de David, suivirent Shéba, fils de Bicri ; mais les hommes de Juda s'attachèrent à leur roi, depuis le Jourdain jusqu'à Jérusalem.

KJV ² So every man of Israel went up from after David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri: but the men of Judah clave unto their king, from Jordan even to Jerusalem.

DRB ³ Et David vint dans sa maison à Jérusalem. Et le roi prit les dix femmes concubines qu'il avait laissées pour garder la maison, et les mit dans une maison où elles étaient gardées, et les entretint ; mais il n'entra pas vers elles ; et elles furent enfermées jusqu'au jour de leur mort, vivant dans le veuvage.

KJV ³ And David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and fed them, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in widowhood.

DRB ⁴ Et le roi dit à Amasa : Rassemble-moi en trois jours les hommes de Juda ; et toi, sois présent ici.

KJV ⁴ Then said the king to Amasa, Assemble me the men of Judah within three days, and be thou here present.

DRB ⁵ Et Amasa s'en alla pour rassembler Juda ; mais il tarda au delà du terme qui lui était assigné.

KJV ⁵ So Amasa went to assemble the men of Judah: but he tarried longer than the set time which he had appointed him.

DRB ⁶ Et David dit à Abishaï : Maintenant Shéba, fils de Bicri, nous fera plus de mal qu'Absalom. Toi, prends les serviteurs de ton seigneur, et poursuis-le, de peur qu'il ne trouve des villes fortes, et qu'il ne se dérobe à nos yeux.

KJV ⁶ And David said to Abishai, Now shall Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Absalom: take thou thy lord's servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fenced cities, and escape us.

KJV ⁸ When they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa went before them. And Joab's garment that he had put on was girded unto him, and upon it a girdle with a sword fastened upon his loins in the sheath thereof; and as he went forth it fell out.

KJV ⁹ And Joab said to Amasa, Art thou in health, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with the right hand to kiss him.

DRB ¹⁰ Et Amasa ne prenait pas garde à l'épée qui était dans la main de Joab ; et [Joab] l'en frappa dans le ventre, et répandit ses entrailles à terre, sans le [frapper] une seconde fois ; et il mourut. Et Joab, et Abishaï, son frère, poursuivirent Shéba, fils de Bicri.

KJV ¹⁰ But Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand: so he smote him therewith in the fifth rib, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. So Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.

KJV ¹¹ And one of Joab's men stood by him, and said, He that favoureth Joab, and he that is for David, let him go after Joab.

DRB ¹² Et Amasa se roulait dans son sang, au milieu de la route ; et quand cet homme vit que tout le peuple s'arrêtait, il tira Amasa hors de la route dans un champ, et jeta un vêtement sur lui, quand il vit que tous ceux qui arrivaient près de lui s'arrêtaient.

KJV ¹² And Amasa wallowed in blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he removed Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a cloth upon him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still.

DRB ¹³ Quand il fut ôté de la route, tous les hommes passèrent outre après Joab, afin de poursuivre Shéba, fils de Bicri.

KJV ¹³ When he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.

KJV ¹⁵ And they came and besieged him in Abel of Bethmaachah, and they cast up a bank against the city, and it stood in the trench: and all the people that were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down.

KJV ¹⁶ Then cried a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near hither, that I may speak with thee.

KJV ¹⁷ And when he was come near unto her, the woman said, Art thou Joab? And he answered, I am he. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of thine handmaid. And he answered, I do hear.

KJV ¹⁸ Then she spake, saying, They were wont to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask counsel at Abel: and so they ended the matter.

DRB ¹⁹ Moi, je suis paisible [et] fidèle en Israël ; toi, tu cherches à faire périr une ville et une mère en Israël ; pourquoi veux-tu engloutir l'héritage de l'Éternel ?

KJV ¹⁹ I am one of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of the LORD?

WLC ¹⁹ אָנֹכִ֕י שְׁלֻמֵ֖י אֱמוּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אַתָּ֣ה מְבַקֵּ֗שׁ לְהָמִ֨ית עִ֤יר וְאֵם֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לָ֥מָּה תְבַלַּ֖ע נַחֲלַ֥ת יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ²⁰ Et Joab répondit et dit : Loin de moi, loin de moi, de vouloir engloutir et détruire !

KJV ²⁰ And Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.

WLC ²⁰ וַיַּ֥עַן יוֹאָ֖ב וַיֹּאמַ֑ר חָלִ֤ילָה חָלִ֙ילָה֙ לִ֔י אִם־ אֲבַלַּ֖ע וְאִם־ אַשְׁחִֽית׃

DRB ²¹ La chose n'est pas ainsi, mais un homme de la montagne d'Éphraïm, qui a nom Shéba, fils de Bicri, a levé sa main contre le roi, contre David ; livrez-le, lui seul, et je m'en irai de devant la ville. Et la femme dit à Joab : Voici, sa tête te sera jetée par la muraille.

KJV ²¹ The matter is not so: but a man of mount Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, even against David: deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall.

DRB ²² Et la femme vint vers tout le peuple, avec sa sagesse ; et ils coupèrent la tête de Shéba, fils de Bicri, et la jetèrent à Joab. Et il sonna de la trompette, et on se dispersa de devant la ville, chacun à sa tente ; et Joab retourna à Jérusalem vers le roi.

KJV ²² Then the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and cast it out to Joab. And he blew a trumpet, and they retired from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.

DRB ²³ Et Joab était [préposé] sur toute l'armée d'Israël ; et Benaïa, fils de Jehoïada, sur les Keréthiens et sur les Peléthiens ;

KJV ²³ Now Joab was over all the host of Israel: and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites:

KJV ²⁶ And Ira also the Jairite was a chief ruler about David.

DRB ¹ Et il y eut, du temps de David, une famine de trois ans, année après année. Et David rechercha la face de l'Éternel, et l'Éternel dit : C'est à cause de Saül et de sa maison de sang, parce qu'il a fait mourir les Gabaonites.

KJV ¹ Then there was a famine in the days of David three years, year after year; and David enquired of the LORD. And the LORD answered, It is for Saul, and for his bloody house, because he slew the Gibeonites.

DRB ² Et le roi appela les Gabaonites et leur parla. (Or les Gabaonites n'étaient pas des fils d'Israël, mais du reste des Amoréens, et les fils d'Israël s'étaient obligés envers eux par serment ; et Saül, dans son zèle pour les fils d'Israël et de Juda, avait cherché à les frapper).

KJV ² And the king called the Gibeonites, and said unto them; (now the Gibeonites were not of the children of Israel, but of the remnant of the Amorites; and the children of Israel had sworn unto them: and Saul sought to slay them in his zeal to the children of Israel and Judah.)

WLC ² וַיִּקְרָ֥א הַמֶּ֛לֶךְ לַגִּבְעֹנִ֖ים וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲלֵיהֶ֑ם וְהַגִּבְעֹנִ֞ים לֹ֣א מִבְּנֵ֧י יִשְׂרָאֵ֣ל הֵ֗מָּה כִּ֚י אִם־ מִיֶּ֣תֶר הָאֱמֹרִ֔י וּבְנֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ נִשְׁבְּע֣וּ לָהֶ֔ם וַיְבַקֵּ֤שׁ שָׁאוּל֙ לְהַכֹּתָ֔ם בְּקַנֹּאת֥וֹ לִבְנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל וִיהוּדָֽה׃

DRB ³ Et David dit aux Gabaonites : Que ferai-je pour vous, et avec quoi ferai-je expiation, de sorte que vous bénissiez l'héritage de l'Éternel ?

KJV ³ Wherefore David said unto the Gibeonites, What shall I do for you? and wherewith shall I make the atonement, that ye may bless the inheritance of the LORD?

WLC ³ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר דָּוִד֙ אֶל־ הַגִּבְעֹנִ֔ים מָ֥ה אֶעֱשֶׂ֖ה לָכֶ֑ם וּבַמָּ֣ה אֲכַפֵּ֔ר וּבָרְכ֖וּ אֶת־ נַחֲלַ֥ת יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ⁴ Et les Gabaonites lui dirent : Il ne s'agit pas pour nous d'argent ou d'or à l'égard de Saül et de sa maison, ni qu'on fasse mourir personne en Israël. Et il dit : Ce que vous direz, je le ferai pour vous.

KJV ⁴ And the Gibeonites said unto him, We will have no silver nor gold of Saul, nor of his house; neither for us shalt thou kill any man in Israel. And he said, What ye shall say, that will I do for you.

WLC ⁴ וַיֹּ֧אמְרוּ ל֣וֹ הַגִּבְעֹנִ֗ים אֵֽין־ כֶּ֤סֶף וְזָהָב֙ עִם־ שָׁא֣וּל וְעִם־ בֵּית֔וֹ וְאֵֽין־ לָ֥נוּ אִ֖ישׁ לְהָמִ֣ית בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיֹּ֛אמֶר מָֽה־ אַתֶּ֥ם אֹמְרִ֖ים אֶעֱשֶׂ֥ה לָכֶֽם׃

DRB ⁵ Et ils dirent au roi : L'homme qui nous a consumés et qui a formé un plan contre nous afin de nous détruire, pour que nous ne puissions subsister dans tous les confins d'Israël … :

KJV ⁵ And they answered the king, The man that consumed us, and that devised against us that we should be destroyed from remaining in any of the coasts of Israel,

WLC ⁵ וַיֹּֽאמְרוּ֙ אֶל־ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ הָאִישׁ֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר כִּלָּ֔נוּ וַאֲשֶׁ֖ר דִּמָּה־ לָ֑נוּ נִשְׁמַ֕דְנוּ מֵֽהִתְיַצֵּ֖ב בְּכָל־ גְּבֻ֥ל יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

DRB ⁶ qu'on nous livre sept hommes de ses fils, et nous les pendrons devant l'Éternel à Guibha de Saül, l'élu de l'Éternel. Et le roi dit : Je les livrerai.

KJV ⁶ Let seven men of his sons be delivered unto us, and we will hang them up unto the LORD in Gibeah of Saul, whom the LORD did choose. And the king said, I will give them.

WLC ⁶ לָ֜נוּ שִׁבְעָ֤ה אֲנָשִׁים֙ מִבָּנָ֔יו וְהוֹקַֽעֲנוּם֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה בְּגִבְעַ֥ת שָׁא֖וּל בְּחִ֣יר יְהוָ֑ה וַיֹּ֥אמֶר הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֲנִ֥י אֶתֵּֽן׃

DRB ⁷ Et le roi épargna Mephibosheth, fils de Jonathan, fils de Saül, à cause du serment de l'Éternel, qui était entre eux, entre David et Jonathan, fils de Saül.

KJV ⁷ But the king spared Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan the son of Saul, because of the LORD's oath that was between them, between David and Jonathan the son of Saul.

WLC ⁷ וַיַּחְמֹ֣ל הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ עַל־ מְפִי־ בֹ֖שֶׁת בֶּן־ יְהוֹנָתָ֣ן בֶּן־ שָׁא֑וּל עַל־ שְׁבֻעַ֤ת יְהוָה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בֵּֽינֹתָ֔ם בֵּ֣ין דָּוִ֔ד וּבֵ֖ין יְהוֹנָתָ֥ן בֶּן־ שָׁאֽוּל׃

DRB ⁸ Et le roi prit les deux fils de Ritspa, fille d'Aïa, qu'elle avait enfantés à Saül, Armoni et Mephibosheth, et les cinq fils de Mical*, fille de Saül, qu'elle avait enfantés à Adriel, fils de Barzillaï, le Meholathite,

KJV ⁸ But the king took the two sons of Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, whom she bare unto Saul, Armoni and Mephibosheth; and the five sons of Michal the daughter of Saul, whom she brought up for Adriel the son of Barzillai the Meholathite:

WLC ⁸ וַיִּקַּ֣ח הַמֶּ֡לֶךְ אֶת־ שְׁ֠נֵי בְּנֵ֨י רִצְפָּ֤ה בַת־ אַיָּה֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר יָלְדָ֣ה לְשָׁא֔וּל אֶת־ אַרְמֹנִ֖י וְאֶת־ מְפִבֹ֑שֶׁת וְאֶת־ חֲמֵ֗שֶׁת בְּנֵי֙ מִיכַ֣ל בַּת־ שָׁא֔וּל אֲשֶׁ֥ר יָלְדָ֛ה לְעַדְרִיאֵ֥ל בֶּן־ בַּרְזִלַּ֖י הַמְּחֹלָתִֽי׃

DRB ⁹ et il les livra aux mains des Gabaonites, qui les pendirent sur la montagne, devant l'Éternel ; et les sept tombèrent ensemble, et on les fit mourir aux premiers jours de la moisson, au commencement de la moisson des orges.

KJV ⁹ And he delivered them into the hands of the Gibeonites, and they hanged them in the hill before the LORD: and they fell all seven together, and were put to death in the days of harvest, in the first days, in the beginning of barley harvest.

WLC ⁹ וַֽיִּתְּנֵ֞ם בְּיַ֣ד הַגִּבְעֹנִ֗ים וַיֹּקִיעֻ֤ם בָּהָר֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וַיִּפְּל֥וּ יָ֑חַד הֻמְת֜וּ בִּימֵ֤י קָצִיר֙ בָּרִ֣אשֹׁנִ֔ים קְצִ֥יר שְׂעֹרִֽים׃

DRB ¹⁰ Et Ritspa, fille d'Aïa, prit un sac* et l'étendit sur le rocher, depuis le commencement de la moisson jusqu'à ce qu'il tombât de l'eau des cieux sur eux ; et elle ne permit pas aux oiseaux des cieux de se poser sur eux le jour, ni aux bêtes des champs la nuit.

KJV ¹⁰ And Rizpah the daughter of Aiah took sackcloth, and spread it for her upon the rock, from the beginning of harvest until water dropped upon them out of heaven, and suffered neither the birds of the air to rest on them by day, nor the beasts of the field by night.

WLC ¹⁰ וַתִּקַּ֣ח רִצְפָּה֩ בַת־ אַיָּ֨ה אֶת־ הַשַּׂ֜ק וַתַּטֵּ֨הוּ לָ֤הּ אֶל־ הַצּוּר֙ מִתְּחִלַּ֣ת קָצִ֔יר עַ֛ד נִתַּךְ־ מַ֥יִם עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם מִן־ הַשָּׁמָ֑יִם וְלֹֽא־ נָתְנָה֩ ע֨וֹף הַשָּׁמַ֜יִם לָנ֤וּחַ עֲלֵיהֶם֙ יוֹמָ֔ם וְאֶת־ חַיַּ֥ת הַשָּׂדֶ֖ה לָֽיְלָה׃

DRB ¹¹ Et ce que Ritspa, fille d'Aïa, concubine de Saül, avait fait fut rapporté à David.

KJV ¹¹ And it was told David what Rizpah the daughter of Aiah, the concubine of Saul, had done.

WLC ¹¹ וַיֻּגַּ֖ד לְדָוִ֑ד אֵ֧ת אֲשֶׁר־ עָשְׂתָ֛ה רִצְפָּ֥ה בַת־ אַיָּ֖ה פִּלֶ֥גֶשׁ שָׁאֽוּל׃

DRB ¹² Et David alla et prit les os de Saül et les os de Jonathan, son fils, de chez les habitants* de Jabès de Galaad, qui les avaient dérobés de la place de Beth-Shan, où les Philistins les avaient suspendus le jour où les Philistins avaient frappé Saül à Guilboa.

KJV ¹² And David went and took the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son from the men of Jabeshgilead, which had stolen them from the street of Bethshan, where the Philistines had hanged them, when the Philistines had slain Saul in Gilboa:

WLC ¹² וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ דָּוִ֗ד וַיִּקַּ֞ח אֶת־ עַצְמ֤וֹת שָׁאוּל֙ וְאֶת־ עַצְמוֹת֙ יְהוֹנָתָ֣ן בְּנ֔וֹ מֵאֵ֕ת בַּעֲלֵ֖י יָבֵ֣ישׁ גִּלְעָ֑ד אֲשֶׁר֩ גָּנְב֨וּ אֹתָ֜ם מֵרְחֹ֣ב בֵּֽית־ שַׁ֗ן אֲשֶׁ֨ר בְּי֨וֹם הַכּ֧וֹת פְּלִשְׁתִּ֛ים אֶת־ שָׁא֖וּל בַּגִּלְבֹּֽעַ׃

DRB ¹³ Et il emporta de là les os de Saül et les os de Jonathan, son fils ; et on recueillit les os de ceux qui avaient été pendus,

KJV ¹³ And he brought up from thence the bones of Saul and the bones of Jonathan his son; and they gathered the bones of them that were hanged.

WLC ¹³ וַיַּ֤עַל מִשָּׁם֙ אֶת־ עַצְמ֣וֹת שָׁא֔וּל וְאֶת־ עַצְמ֖וֹת יְהוֹנָתָ֣ן בְּנ֑וֹ וַיַּ֣אַסְפ֔וּ אֶת־ עַצְמ֖וֹת הַמּוּקָעִֽים׃

DRB ¹⁴ et on les enterra avec les os de Saül et de Jonathan, son fils, dans le pays de Benjamin, à Tséla, dans le sépulcre de Kis, son père. Et on fit tout ce que le roi avait commandé : et après cela, Dieu fut propice au pays.

KJV ¹⁴ And the bones of Saul and Jonathan his son buried they in the country of Benjamin in Zelah, in the sepulchre of Kish his father: and they performed all that the king commanded. And after that God was intreated for the land.

WLC ¹⁴ וַיִּקְבְּר֣וּ אֶת־ עַצְמוֹת־ שָׁא֣וּל וִיהוֹנָֽתָן־ בְּ֠נוֹ בְּאֶ֨רֶץ בִּנְיָמִ֜ן בְּצֵלָ֗ע בְּקֶ֙בֶר֙ קִ֣ישׁ אָבִ֔יו וַֽיַּעֲשׂ֔וּ כֹּ֥ל אֲשֶׁר־ צִוָּ֖ה הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיֵּעָתֵ֧ר אֱלֹהִ֛ים לָאָ֖רֶץ אַֽחֲרֵי־ כֵֽן׃

DRB ¹⁵ Et il y eut encore une guerre des Philistins contre Israël ; et David descendit, et ses serviteurs avec lui, et ils se battirent avec les Philistins ; et David était fatigué.

KJV ¹⁵ Moreover the Philistines had yet war again with Israel; and David went down, and his servants with him, and fought against the Philistines: and David waxed faint.

WLC ¹⁵ וַתְּהִי־ ע֧וֹד מִלְחָמָ֛ה לַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים אֶת־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיֵּ֨רֶד דָּוִ֜ד וַעֲבָדָ֥יו עִמּ֛וֹ וַיִּלָּחֲמ֥וּ אֶת־ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֖ים וַיָּ֥עַף דָּוִֽד׃

DRB ¹⁶ Et Jishbi-Benob, qui était des enfants du géant* (le poids de sa lance était de trois cents sicles** d'airain, et il était ceint d'une [armure] neuve), pensa frapper David.

KJV ¹⁶ And Ishbibenob, which was of the sons of the giant, the weight of whose spear weighed three hundred shekels of brass in weight, he being girded with a new sword, thought to have slain David.

WLC ¹⁶ בְּנֹ֜ב אֲשֶׁ֣ר ׀ בִּילִידֵ֣י הָרָפָ֗ה וּמִשְׁקַ֤ל קֵינוֹ֙ שְׁלֹ֤שׁ מֵאוֹת֙ מִשְׁקַ֣ל נְחֹ֔שֶׁת וְה֖וּא חָג֣וּר חֲדָשָׁ֑ה וַיֹּ֖אמֶר לְהַכּ֥וֹת אֶת־ דָּוִֽד׃

DRB ¹⁷ Et Abishaï, fils de Tseruïa, le secourut, et frappa le Philistin et le tua. Alors les hommes de David lui jurèrent, disant : Tu ne sortiras plus avec nous pour la guerre, et tu n'éteindras pas la lampe d'Israël.

KJV ¹⁷ But Abishai the son of Zeruiah succoured him, and smote the Philistine, and killed him. Then the men of David sware unto him, saying, Thou shalt go no more out with us to battle, that thou quench not the light of Israel.

WLC ¹⁷ וַיַּֽעֲזָר־ לוֹ֙ אֲבִישַׁ֣י בֶּן־ צְרוּיָ֔ה וַיַּ֥ךְ אֶת־ הַפְּלִשְׁתִּ֖י וַיְמִיתֵ֑הוּ אָ֣ז נִשְׁבְּעוּ֩ אַנְשֵׁי־ דָוִ֨ד ל֜וֹ לֵאמֹ֗ר לֹא־ תֵצֵ֨א ע֤וֹד אִתָּ֙נוּ֙ לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וְלֹ֥א תְכַבֶּ֖ה אֶת־ נֵ֥ר יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

DRB ¹⁸ Et il arriva, après cela, qu'il y eut encore un combat, à Gob, avec les Philistins. Alors Sibbecaï, le Hushathite, frappa Saph, qui était un des enfants du géant.

KJV ¹⁸ And it came to pass after this, that there was again a battle with the Philistines at Gob: then Sibbechai the Hushathite slew Saph, which was of the sons of the giant.

WLC ¹⁸ וַֽיְהִי֙ אַֽחֲרֵי־ כֵ֔ן וַתְּהִי־ ע֧וֹד הַמִּלְחָמָ֛ה בְּג֖וֹב עִם־ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים אָ֣ז הִכָּ֗ה סִבְּכַי֙ הַחֻ֣שָׁתִ֔י אֶת־ סַ֕ף אֲשֶׁ֖ר בִּילִדֵ֥י הָרָפָֽה׃

DRB ¹⁹ Et il y eut encore un combat, à Gob, avec les Philistins : et Elkhanan, fils de Jaaré-Oreguim, le Bethléhémite, frappa Goliath, le Guitthien ; et le bois de sa lance était comme l'ensouple des tisserands.

KJV ¹⁹ And there was again a battle in Gob with the Philistines, where Elhanan the son of Jaareoregim, a Bethlehemite, slew the brother of Goliath the Gittite, the staff of whose spear was like a weaver's beam.

WLC ¹⁹ וַתְּהִי־ ע֧וֹד הַמִּלְחָמָ֛ה בְּג֖וֹב עִם־ פְּלִשְׁתִּ֑ים וַיַּ֡ךְ אֶלְחָנָן֩ בֶּן־ יַעְרֵ֨י אֹרְגִ֜ים בֵּ֣ית הַלַּחְמִ֗י אֵ֚ת גָּלְיָ֣ת הַגִּתִּ֔י וְעֵ֣ץ חֲנִית֔וֹ כִּמְנ֖וֹר אֹרְגִֽים׃

DRB ²⁰ Et il y eut encore un combat, à Gath : et il y avait [là] un homme de haute stature qui avait six doigts aux mains et six orteils aux pieds, en tout* vingt-quatre ; et lui aussi était né au géant.

KJV ²⁰ And there was yet a battle in Gath, where was a man of great stature, that had on every hand six fingers, and on every foot six toes, four and twenty in number; and he also was born to the giant.

WLC ²⁰ וַתְּהִי־ ע֥וֹד מִלְחָמָ֖ה בְּגַ֑ת וַיְהִ֣י ׀ אִ֣ישׁ וְאֶצְבְּעֹ֣ת יָדָיו֩ וְאֶצְבְּעֹ֨ת רַגְלָ֜יו שֵׁ֣שׁ וָשֵׁ֗שׁ עֶשְׂרִ֤ים וְאַרְבַּע֙ מִסְפָּ֔ר וְגַם־ ה֖וּא יֻלַּ֥ד לְהָרָפָֽה׃

DRB ²¹ Et il outragea Israël ; mais Jonathan, fils de Shimha, frère de David, le frappa.

KJV ²¹ And when he defied Israel, Jonathan the son of Shimeah the brother of David slew him.

WLC ²¹ וַיְחָרֵ֖ף אֶת־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל וַיַּכֵּ֙הוּ֙ יְה֣וֹנָתָ֔ן בֶּן־ אֲחִ֥י דָוִֽד׃

DRB ²² Ces quatre étaient nés au géant, à Gath, et tombèrent par la main de David et par la main de ses serviteurs.

KJV ²² These four were born to the giant in Gath, and fell by the hand of David, and by the hand of his servants.

WLC ²² אֶת־ אַרְבַּ֥עַת אֵ֛לֶּה יֻלְּד֥וּ לְהָרָפָ֖ה בְּגַ֑ת וַיִּפְּל֥וּ בְיַד־ דָּוִ֖ד וּבְיַ֥ד עֲבָדָֽיו׃

DRB ¹ Et David adressa à l'Éternel les paroles de ce cantique, le jour où l'Éternel l'eut délivré de la main de tous ses ennemis et de la main de Saül.

KJV ¹ And David spake unto the LORD the words of this song in the day that the LORD had delivered him out of the hand of all his enemies, and out of the hand of Saul:

WLC ¹ וַיְדַבֵּ֤ר דָּוִד֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה אֶת־ דִּבְרֵ֖י הַשִּׁירָ֣ה הַזֹּ֑את בְּיוֹם֩ הִצִּ֨יל יְהוָ֥ה אֹת֛וֹ מִכַּ֥ף כָּל־ אֹיְבָ֖יו וּמִכַּ֥ף שָׁאֽוּל׃

DRB ² Et il dit : L'Éternel est mon rocher et mon lieu fort, et celui qui me délivre.

KJV ² And he said, The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer;

WLC ² וַיֹּאמַ֑ר יְהוָ֛ה סַֽלְעִ֥י וּמְצֻדָתִ֖י וּמְפַלְטִי־ לִֽי׃

DRB ³ Dieu est mon rocher*, je me confierai en lui, mon bouclier et la corne de mon salut, ma haute retraite et mon refuge. Mon Sauveur, tu me sauveras de la violence !

KJV ³ The God of my rock; in him will I trust: he is my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

WLC ³ אֱלֹהֵ֥י צוּרִ֖י אֶחֱסֶה־ בּ֑וֹ מָגִנִּ֞י וְקֶ֣רֶן יִשְׁעִ֗י מִשְׂגַּבִּי֙ וּמְנוּסִ֔י מֹשִׁעִ֕י מֵחָמָ֖ס תֹּשִׁעֵֽנִי׃

DRB ⁴ Je crierai à l'Éternel, qui est digne d'être loué, et je serai sauvé de mes ennemis.

KJV ⁴ I will call on the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies.

WLC ⁴ מְהֻלָּ֖ל אֶקְרָ֣א יְהוָ֑ה וּמֵאֹיְבַ֖י אִוָּשֵֽׁעַ׃

DRB ⁵ Car les vagues de la mort m'ont environné, les torrents de Bélial* m'ont fait peur ;

KJV ⁵ When the waves of death compassed me, the floods of ungodly men made me afraid;

WLC ⁵ כִּ֥י אֲפָפֻ֖נִי מִשְׁבְּרֵי־ מָ֑וֶת נַחֲלֵ֥י בְלִיַּ֖עַל יְבַעֲתֻֽנִי׃

DRB ⁶ Les cordeaux du shéol* m'ont entouré, les filets de la mort m'ont surpris :

KJV ⁶ The sorrows of hell compassed me about; the snares of death prevented me;

WLC ⁶ חֶבְלֵ֥י שְׁא֖וֹל סַבֻּ֑נִי קִדְּמֻ֖נִי מֹֽקְשֵׁי־ מָֽוֶת׃

DRB ⁷ Dans ma détresse, j'ai invoqué l'Éternel, et j'ai appelé mon Dieu, et, de son temple, il a entendu ma voix, et mon cri est [parvenu] à ses oreilles.

KJV ⁷ In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried to my God: and he did hear my voice out of his temple, and my cry did enter into his ears.

WLC ⁷ בַּצַּר־ לִי֙ אֶקְרָ֣א יְהוָ֔ה וְאֶל־ אֱלֹהַ֖י אֶקְרָ֑א וַיִּשְׁמַ֤ע מֵהֵֽיכָלוֹ֙ קוֹלִ֔י וְשַׁוְעָתִ֖י בְּאָזְנָֽיו׃

DRB ⁸ Alors la terre fut ébranlée et trembla ; les fondements des cieux furent secoués et furent ébranlés, parce qu'il était irrité.

KJV ⁸ Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of heaven moved and shook, because he was wroth.

WLC ⁸ וַתִּרְעַשׁ֙ הָאָ֔רֶץ מוֹסְד֥וֹת הַשָּׁמַ֖יִם יִרְגָּ֑זוּ וַיִּֽתְגָּעֲשׁ֖וּ כִּֽי־ חָ֥רָה לֽוֹ׃

DRB ⁹ Une fumée montait de ses narines, et un feu sortant de sa bouche dévorait ; des charbons en jaillissaient embrasés.

KJV ⁹ There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it.

WLC ⁹ עָלָ֤ה עָשָׁן֙ בְּאַפּ֔וֹ וְאֵ֥שׁ מִפִּ֖יו תֹּאכֵ֑ל גֶּחָלִ֖ים בָּעֲר֥וּ מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

DRB ¹⁰ Et il abaissa les cieux, et descendit ; et il y avait une obscurité profonde sous ses pieds.

KJV ¹⁰ He bowed the heavens also, and came down; and darkness was under his feet.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיֵּ֥ט שָׁמַ֖יִם וַיֵּרַ֑ד וַעֲרָפֶ֖ל תַּ֥חַת רַגְלָֽיו׃

DRB ¹¹ Et il était monté sur un chérubin, et volait, et il parut sur les ailes du vent.

KJV ¹¹ And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: and he was seen upon the wings of the wind.

WLC ¹¹ וַיִּרְכַּ֥ב עַל־ כְּר֖וּב וַיָּעֹ֑ף וַיֵּרָ֖א עַל־ כַּנְפֵי־ רֽוּחַ׃

DRB ¹² Et il mit autour de lui les ténèbres pour tente, des amas d'eaux, d'épaisses nuées de l'air.

KJV ¹² And he made darkness pavilions round about him, dark waters, and thick clouds of the skies.

KJV ¹⁴ The LORD thundered from heaven, and the most High uttered his voice.

DRB ¹⁷ D'en haut, il étendit [sa main], il me prit, il me tira des grandes eaux ;

KJV ¹⁷ He sent from above, he took me; he drew me out of many waters;

WLC ¹⁷ יִשְׁלַ֥ח מִמָּר֖וֹם יִקָּחֵ֑נִי יַֽמְשֵׁ֖נִי מִמַּ֥יִם רַבִּֽים׃

DRB ¹⁸ Il me délivra de mon puissant ennemi, de ceux qui me haïssaient ; car ils étaient plus forts que moi.

KJV ¹⁸ He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them that hated me: for they were too strong for me.

WLC ¹⁸ יַצִּילֵ֕נִי מֵאֹיְבִ֖י עָ֑ז מִשֹּׂ֣נְאַ֔י כִּ֥י אָמְצ֖וּ מִמֶּֽנִּי׃

DRB ¹⁹ Ils m'avaient surpris au jour de ma calamité, mais l'Éternel fut mon appui.

KJV ¹⁹ They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay.

WLC ¹⁹ יְקַדְּמֻ֖נִי בְּי֣וֹם אֵידִ֑י וַיְהִ֧י יְהוָ֛ה מִשְׁעָ֖ן לִֽי׃

DRB ²⁰ Et il me fit sortir au large, il me délivra, parce qu'il prenait son plaisir en moi.

KJV ²⁰ He brought me forth also into a large place: he delivered me, because he delighted in me.

WLC ²⁰ וַיֹּצֵ֥א לַמֶּרְחָ֖ב אֹתִ֑י יְחַלְּצֵ֖נִי כִּי־ חָ֥פֵֽץ בִּֽי׃

DRB ²¹ L'Éternel m'a récompensé selon ma justice, il m'a rendu selon la pureté de mes mains ;

KJV ²¹ The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness: according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.

WLC ²¹ יִגְמְלֵ֥נִי יְהוָ֖ה כְּצִדְקָתִ֑י כְּבֹ֥ר יָדַ֖י יָשִׁ֥יב לִֽי׃

DRB ²² Car j'ai gardé les voies de l'Éternel, et je ne me suis point méchamment détourné de mon Dieu ;

KJV ²² For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God.

WLC ²² כִּ֥י שָׁמַ֖רְתִּי דַּרְכֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וְלֹ֥א רָשַׁ֖עְתִּי מֵאֱלֹהָֽי׃

DRB ²³ Car toutes ses ordonnances ont été devant moi ; et de ses statuts, je ne me suis pas écarté ;

KJV ²³ For all his judgments were before me: and as for his statutes, I did not depart from them.

WLC ²³ כִּ֥י כָל־ לְנֶגְדִּ֑י וְחֻקֹּתָ֖יו לֹא־ אָס֥וּר מִמֶּֽנָּה׃

DRB ²⁴ Et j'ai été parfait* envers lui, et je me suis gardé de mon iniquité.

KJV ²⁴ I was also upright before him, and have kept myself from mine iniquity.

DRB ²⁵ Et l'Éternel m'a rendu selon ma justice, selon ma pureté devant ses yeux.

KJV ²⁵ Therefore the LORD hath recompensed me according to my righteousness; according to my cleanness in his eye sight.

DRB ²⁶ Avec celui qui use de grâce, tu uses de grâce ; avec l'homme parfait, tu te montres parfait ;

KJV ²⁶ With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful, and with the upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright.

WLC ²⁶ עִם־ חָסִ֖יד תִּתְחַסָּ֑ד עִם־ גִּבּ֥וֹר תָּמִ֖ים תִּתַּמָּֽם׃

DRB ²⁷ Avec celui qui est pur, tu te montres pur ; et avec le pervers, tu es roide*.

KJV ²⁷ With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself unsavoury.

WLC ²⁷ עִם־ נָבָ֖ר תִּתָּבָ֑ר וְעִם־ עִקֵּ֖שׁ תִּתַּפָּֽל׃

DRB ²⁸ Et tu sauveras le peuple affligé, et tes yeux sont sur les hautains, [et] tu les abaisses.

KJV ²⁸ And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes are upon the haughty, that thou mayest bring them down.

DRB ²⁹ Car toi, Éternel ! tu es ma lampe ; et l'Éternel fait resplendir mes ténèbres.

KJV ²⁹ For thou art my lamp, O LORD: and the LORD will lighten my darkness.

DRB ³⁰ Car, par toi, je courrai au travers d'une troupe ; par mon Dieu, je franchirai une muraille.

KJV ³⁰ For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall.

KJV ³¹ As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him.

DRB ³² Car qui est *Dieu, hormis l'Éternel ? et qui est un rocher, hormis notre Dieu ?

KJV ³² For who is God, save the LORD? and who is a rock, save our God?

WLC ³² כִּ֥י מִי־ אֵ֖ל מִבַּלְעֲדֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וּמִ֥י צ֖וּר מִֽבַּלְעֲדֵ֥י אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃

DRB ³³ *Dieu est ma puissante forteresse, et il aplanit parfaitement ma voie.

KJV ³³ God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect.

KJV ³⁵ He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.

DRB ³⁶ Et tu m'as donné le bouclier de ton salut, et ta débonnaireté m'a agrandi.

KJV ³⁶ Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great.

WLC ³⁶ וַתִּתֶּן־ לִ֖י מָגֵ֣ן יִשְׁעֶ֑ךָ וַעֲנֹתְךָ֖ תַּרְבֵּֽנִי׃

DRB ³⁷ Tu as mis au large mes pas sous moi, et les chevilles de mes pieds n'ont pas chancelé.

KJV ³⁷ Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip.

WLC ³⁷ תַּרְחִ֥יב צַעֲדִ֖י תַּחְתֵּ֑נִי וְלֹ֥א מָעֲד֖וּ קַרְסֻלָּֽי׃

DRB ³⁸ J'ai poursuivi mes ennemis, et je les ai détruits ; et je ne m'en suis pas retourné que je ne les aie consumés.

KJV ³⁸ I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them.

WLC ³⁸ אֶרְדְּפָ֥ה אֹיְבַ֖י וָאַשְׁמִידֵ֑ם וְלֹ֥א אָשׁ֖וּב עַד־ כַּלּוֹתָֽם׃

DRB ³⁹ Et je les ai consumés, je les ai transpercés, et ils ne se sont pas relevés, mais ils sont tombés sous mes pieds.

KJV ³⁹ And I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise: yea, they are fallen under my feet.

WLC ³⁹ וָאֲכַלֵּ֥ם וָאֶמְחָצֵ֖ם וְלֹ֣א יְקוּמ֑וּן וַֽיִּפְּל֖וּ תַּ֥חַת רַגְלָֽי׃

DRB ⁴⁰ Et tu m'as ceint de force pour le combat ; tu as courbé sous moi ceux qui s'élevaient contre moi.

KJV ⁴⁰ For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me.

WLC ⁴⁰ וַתַּזְרֵ֥נִי חַ֖יִל לַמִּלְחָמָ֑ה תַּכְרִ֥יעַ קָמַ֖י תַּחְתֵּֽנִי׃

DRB ⁴¹ Et tu as fait que mes ennemis m'ont tourné le dos ; et ceux qui me haïssaient, je les ai détruits.

KJV ⁴¹ Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies, that I might destroy them that hate me.

KJV ⁴² They looked, but there was none to save; even unto the LORD, but he answered them not.

KJV ⁴³ Then did I beat them as small as the dust of the earth, I did stamp them as the mire of the street, and did spread them abroad.

WLC ⁴³ וְאֶשְׁחָקֵ֖ם כַּעֲפַר־ אָ֑רֶץ כְּטִיט־ חוּצ֥וֹת אֲדִקֵּ֖ם אֶרְקָעֵֽם׃

DRB ⁴⁴ Et tu m'as délivré des débats de mon peuple ; tu m'as gardé pour être le chef des nations ; un peuple que je ne connaissais pas me servira.

KJV ⁴⁴ Thou also hast delivered me from the strivings of my people, thou hast kept me to be head of the heathen: a people which I knew not shall serve me.

DRB ⁴⁵ Les fils de l'étranger se sont soumis à moi en dissimulant* ; dès qu'ils ont entendu de leur oreille, ils m'ont obéi.

KJV ⁴⁵ Strangers shall submit themselves unto me: as soon as they hear, they shall be obedient unto me.

WLC ⁴⁵ בְּנֵ֥י נֵכָ֖ר יִתְכַּֽחֲשׁוּ־ לִ֑י לִשְׁמ֥וֹעַ אֹ֖זֶן יִשָּׁ֥מְעוּ לִֽי׃

DRB ⁴⁶ Les fils de l'étranger ont dépéri, et ils sont sortis en tremblant de leurs lieux cachés*.

KJV ⁴⁶ Strangers shall fade away, and they shall be afraid out of their close places.

WLC ⁴⁶ בְּנֵ֥י נֵכָ֖ר יִבֹּ֑לוּ וְיַחְגְּר֖וּ מִמִּסְגְּרוֹתָֽם׃

DRB ⁴⁷ L'Éternel est vivant ; et que mon Rocher soit béni ! Et que Dieu, le rocher de mon salut, soit exalté,

WLC ¹ וְאֵ֛לֶּה דִּבְרֵ֥י דָוִ֖ד הָאַֽחֲרֹנִ֑ים נְאֻ֧ם דָּוִ֣ד בֶּן־ יִשַׁ֗י וּנְאֻ֤ם הַגֶּ֙בֶר֙ הֻ֣קַם עָ֔ל מְשִׁ֙יחַ֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יַֽעֲקֹ֔ב וּנְעִ֖ים זְמִר֥וֹת יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

DRB ² L'Esprit de l'Éternel a parlé en moi, et sa parole a été sur ma langue.

KJV ² The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.

WLC ² ר֥וּחַ יְהוָ֖ה דִּבֶּר־ בִּ֑י וּמִלָּת֖וֹ עַל־ לְשׁוֹנִֽי׃

DRB ³ Le Dieu d'Israël a dit, le Rocher d'Israël m'a parlé : Celui qui domine parmi* les hommes sera juste, dominant en la crainte de Dieu,

KJV ³ The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.

WLC ³ אָמַר֙ אֱלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל לִ֥י דִבֶּ֖ר צ֣וּר יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל מוֹשֵׁל֙ בָּאָדָ֔ם צַדִּ֕יק מוֹשֵׁ֖ל יִרְאַ֥ת אֱלֹהִֽים׃

DRB ⁴ et il sera comme la lumière du matin, quand le soleil se lève, un matin sans nuages : par sa clarté l'herbe tendre [germe] de la terre après la pluie.

KJV ⁴ And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.

WLC ⁴ וּכְא֥וֹר בֹּ֖קֶר יִזְרַח־ שָׁ֑מֶשׁ בֹּ֚קֶר לֹ֣א עָב֔וֹת מִנֹּ֥גַהּ מִמָּטָ֖ר דֶּ֥שֶׁא מֵאָֽרֶץ׃

DRB ⁵ Quoique ma maison ne soit pas ainsi avec *Dieu, cependant il a établi avec moi une alliance éternelle, à tous égards bien ordonnée et assurée, car c'est là tout mon salut et tout mon plaisir, quoiqu'il ne la fasse pas germer*.

KJV ⁵ Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.

WLC ⁵ כִּֽי־ לֹא־ כֵ֥ן בֵּיתִ֖י עִם־ אֵ֑ל כִּי֩ בְרִ֨ית עוֹלָ֜ם שָׂ֣ם לִ֗י עֲרוּכָ֤ה בַכֹּל֙ וּשְׁמֻרָ֔ה כִּֽי־ כָל־ יִשְׁעִ֥י וְכָל־ חֵ֖פֶץ כִּֽי־ לֹ֥א יַצְמִֽיחַ׃

DRB ⁶ Mais [les fils de] Bélial sont tous comme des épines qu'on jette loin, car on ne les prend pas avec la main,

KJV ⁶ But the sons of Belial shall be all of them as thorns thrust away, because they cannot be taken with hands:

WLC ⁶ וּבְלִיַּ֕עַל כְּק֥וֹץ מֻנָ֖ד כֻּלָּ֑הַם כִּֽי־ לֹ֥א בְיָ֖ד יִקָּֽחוּ׃

DRB ⁷ Et l'homme qui les touche se munit d'un fer ou d'un bois de lance ; et ils seront entièrement brûlés par le feu sur le lieu même.

KJV ⁷ But the man that shall touch them must be fenced with iron and the staff of a spear; and they shall be utterly burned with fire in the same place.

WLC ⁷ וְאִישׁ֙ יִגַּ֣ע בָּהֶ֔ם יִמָּלֵ֥א בַרְזֶ֖ל וְעֵ֣ץ חֲנִ֑ית וּבָאֵ֕שׁ שָׂר֥וֹף יִשָּׂרְפ֖וּ בַּשָּֽׁבֶת׃

DRB ⁸ Ce sont ici les noms des hommes forts qu'avait David : Josheb-Bashébeth*, Thacmonite**, chef des principaux capitaines ; c'était Adino, l'Etsnite, qui eut le dessus sur*** huit cents hommes, qu'il tua en une fois.

KJV ⁸ These be the names of the mighty men whom David had: The Tachmonite that sat in the seat, chief among the captains; the same was Adino the Eznite: he lift up his spear against eight hundred, whom he slew at one time.

WLC ⁸ אֵ֛לֶּה שְׁמ֥וֹת הַגִּבֹּרִ֖ים אֲשֶׁ֣ר לְדָוִ֑ד יֹשֵׁ֨ב בַּשֶּׁ֜בֶת תַּחְכְּמֹנִ֣י ׀ רֹ֣אשׁ הַשָּׁלִשִׁ֗י ה֚וּא עֲדִינ֣וֹ עַל־ שְׁמֹנֶ֥ה מֵא֛וֹת חָלָ֖ל בְּפַ֥עַם

DRB ⁹ Et après lui, Éléazar, fils de Dodo, fils d'un Akhokhite* ; il était l'un des trois hommes forts qui étaient avec David, lorsqu'ils avaient défié les Philistins qui s'étaient assemblés là pour combattre, et que les hommes d'Israël étaient montés.

KJV ⁹ And after him was Eleazar the son of Dodo the Ahohite, one of the three mighty men with David, when they defied the Philistines that were there gathered together to battle, and the men of Israel were gone away:

WLC ⁹ אֶלְעָזָ֥ר בֶּן־ בֶּן־ אֲחֹחִ֑י בִּשְׁלֹשָׁ֨ה עִם־ דָּוִ֗ד בְּחָֽרְפָ֤ם בַּפְּלִשְׁתִּים נֶאֶסְפוּ־ שָׁ֣ם לַמִּלְחָמָ֔ה וַֽיַּעֲל֖וּ אִ֥ישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

DRB ¹¹ Et après lui, Shamma, fils d'Agué, Hararite : les Philistins s'étaient assemblés en troupe ; et il y avait là une portion de champ pleine de lentilles, et le peuple avait fui devant les Philistins :

KJV ¹¹ And after him was Shammah the son of Agee the Hararite. And the Philistines were gathered together into a troop, where was a piece of ground full of lentiles: and the people fled from the Philistines.

DRB ¹² et il se plaça au milieu du champ*, et le sauva, et frappa les Philistins ; et l'Éternel opéra une grande délivrance.

KJV ¹² But he stood in the midst of the ground, and defended it, and slew the Philistines: and the LORD wrought a great victory.

DRB ¹³ Et trois des trente chefs descendirent et vinrent au temps de la moisson vers David, dans la caverne d'Adullam, comme une troupe de Philistins était campée dans la vallée des Rephaïm.

KJV ¹³ And three of the thirty chief went down, and came to David in the harvest time unto the cave of Adullam: and the troop of the Philistines pitched in the valley of Rephaim.

DRB ¹⁶ Et les trois hommes forts forcèrent le passage à travers le camp des Philistins, et puisèrent de l'eau du puits de Bethléhem, qui est près de la porte, et la prirent et l'apportèrent à David ; et il ne voulut pas la boire, mais il en fit une libation à l'Éternel.

KJV ¹⁶ And the three mighty men brake through the host of the Philistines, and drew water out of the well of Bethlehem, that was by the gate, and took it, and brought it to David: nevertheless he would not drink thereof, but poured it out unto the LORD.

DRB ¹⁷ Et il dit : Loin de moi, Éternel, que je fasse cela ! N'est-ce pas le sang des hommes qui sont allés au péril de leur vie ? Et il ne voulut pas la boire. Ces trois hommes forts firent cela.

KJV ¹⁷ And he said, Be it far from me, O LORD, that I should do this: is not this the blood of the men that went in jeopardy of their lives? therefore he would not drink it. These things did these three mighty men.

DRB ³ Et Joab dit au roi : Que L'Éternel, ton Dieu, ajoute au peuple cent fois autant qu'il y en a, et que les yeux du roi, mon seigneur, le voient ! Mais pourquoi le roi, mon seigneur, prend-il plaisir à cela ?

KJV ³ And Joab said unto the king, Now the LORD thy God add unto the people, how many soever they be, an hundredfold, and that the eyes of my lord the king may see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?

DRB ⁴ Mais la parole du roi prévalut sur Joab, et sur les chefs de l'armée ; et Joab et les chefs de l'armée sortirent de devant le roi pour dénombrer le peuple, Israël.

KJV ⁴ Notwithstanding the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.

WLC ⁹ וַיִּתֵּ֥ן יוֹאָ֛ב אֶת־ מִסְפַּ֥ר מִפְקַד־ הָעָ֖ם אֶל־ הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַתְּהִ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֡ל שְׁמֹנֶה֩ מֵא֨וֹת אֶ֤לֶף אִֽישׁ־ חַ֙יִל֙ שֹׁ֣לֵֽף חֶ֔רֶב וְאִ֣ישׁ יְהוּדָ֔ה חֲמֵשׁ־ מֵא֥וֹת אֶ֖לֶף אִֽישׁ׃

DRB ¹⁰ Et le cœur de David le reprit, après qu'il eut dénombré le peuple ; et David dit à l'Éternel : J'ai grandement péché dans ce que j'ai fait ; et maintenant, ô Éternel, fais passer, je te prie, l'iniquité de ton serviteur, car j'ai agi très follement.

KJV ¹⁰ And David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto the LORD, I have sinned greatly in that I have done: and now, I beseech thee, O LORD, take away the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

DRB ¹¹ Et le matin, quand David se leva, la parole de l'Éternel vint à Gad, le prophète, le voyant de David, disant :

KJV ¹¹ For when David was up in the morning, the word of the LORD came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,

WLC ¹¹ וַיָּ֥קָם דָּוִ֖ד בַּבֹּ֑קֶר וּדְבַר־ יְהוָ֗ה הָיָה֙ אֶל־ גָּ֣ד הַנָּבִ֔יא חֹזֵ֥ה דָוִ֖ד לֵאמֹֽר׃

DRB ¹² Va, et parle à David : Ainsi dit l'Éternel : Je t'impose [l'une de ces] trois choses ; choisis-en une, et je te la ferai.

KJV ¹² Go and say unto David, Thus saith the LORD, I offer thee three things; choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.

WLC ¹² הָל֞וֹךְ וְדִבַּרְתָּ֣ אֶל־ דָּוִ֗ד כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה שָׁלֹ֕שׁ אָנֹכִ֖י נוֹטֵ֣ל עָלֶ֑יךָ בְּחַר־ לְךָ֥ אַֽחַת־ מֵהֶ֖ם וְאֶֽעֱשֶׂה־ לָּֽךְ׃

DRB ¹³ Et Gad vint vers David, et lui rapporta [cela], et lui dit : La famine viendra-t-elle sur toi sept ans dans ton pays ; ou veux-tu fuir trois mois devant tes ennemis, et qu'ils te poursuivent ; ou y aura-t-il trois jours de peste dans ton pays ? Sache maintenant, et vois quelle parole je rapporterai à celui qui m'a envoyé.

KJV ¹³ So Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thine enemies, while they pursue thee? or that there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

WLC ¹³ וַיָּבֹא־ גָ֥ד אֶל־ דָּוִ֖ד וַיַּגֶּד־ ל֑וֹ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֡וֹ הֲתָב֣וֹא לְךָ֣ שֶֽׁבַע שָׁנִ֣ים ׀ רָעָ֣ב ׀ בְּאַרְצֶ֡ךָ אִם־ שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה חֳ֠דָשִׁים נֻסְךָ֨ לִפְנֵֽי־ צָרֶ֜יךָ וְה֣וּא רֹדְפֶ֗ךָ וְאִם־ הֱ֠יוֹת שְׁלֹ֨שֶׁת יָמִ֥ים דֶּ֙בֶר֙ בְּאַרְצֶ֔ךָ עַתָּה֙ דַּ֣ע וּרְאֵ֔ה מָה־ אָשִׁ֥יב שֹׁלְחִ֖י דָּבָֽר׃

DRB ¹⁴ Et David dit à Gad : Je suis dans une grande détresse. Que nous tombions, je te prie, dans les mains de l'Éternel, car ses compassions sont grandes ; et que je ne tombe point dans la main des hommes.

KJV ¹⁴ And David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of the LORD; for his mercies are great: and let me not fall into the hand of man.

WLC ¹⁴ וַיֹּ֧אמֶר דָּוִ֛ד אֶל־ גָּ֖ד צַר־ לִ֣י מְאֹ֑ד נִפְּלָה־ נָּ֤א בְיַד־ יְהוָה֙ כִּֽי־ רַבִּ֣ים וּבְיַד־ אָדָ֖ם אַל־ אֶפֹּֽלָה׃

DRB ¹⁵ Et l'Éternel envoya la peste en Israël depuis le matin jusqu'au temps assigné ; et il mourut du peuple, depuis Dan jusqu'à Beër-Shéba, soixante-dix mille hommes.

KJV ¹⁵ So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan even to Beersheba seventy thousand men.

WLC ¹⁵ וַיִּתֵּ֨ן יְהוָ֥ה דֶּ֙בֶר֙ בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מֵהַבֹּ֖קֶר וְעַד־ עֵ֣ת מוֹעֵ֑ד וַיָּ֣מָת מִן־ הָעָ֗ם מִדָּן֙ וְעַד־ בְּאֵ֣ר שֶׁ֔בַע שִׁבְעִ֥ים אֶ֖לֶף אִֽישׁ׃

DRB ¹⁶ Et l'ange étendit sa main sur Jérusalem pour la détruire ; et l'Éternel se repentit de ce mal, et dit à l'ange qui détruisait parmi le peuple : Assez ! Retire maintenant ta main. Or l'ange de l'Éternel était près de l'aire d'Arauna, le Jébusien.

KJV ¹⁶ And when the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of Araunah the Jebusite.

WLC ¹⁶ וַיִּשְׁלַח֩ יָד֨וֹ הַמַּלְאָ֥ךְ ׀ יְרֽוּשָׁלִַם֮ לְשַׁחֲתָהּ֒ וַיִּנָּ֤חֶם יְהוָה֙ אֶל־ הָ֣רָעָ֔ה וַ֠יֹּאמֶר לַמַּלְאָ֞ךְ הַמַּשְׁחִ֤ית בָּעָם֙ רַ֔ב עַתָּ֖ה הֶ֣רֶף יָדֶ֑ךָ וּמַלְאַ֤ךְ יְהוָה֙ הָיָ֔ה עִם־ גֹּ֖רֶן הַיְבֻסִֽי׃

DRB ¹⁷ Et David, quand il vit l'ange qui frappait parmi le peuple, parla à l'Éternel, et dit : Voici, moi j'ai péché, et moi j'ai commis l'iniquité, mais ces brebis, qu'ont-elles fait ? Que ta main, je te prie, soit sur moi et sur la maison de mon père.

KJV ¹⁷ And David spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but these sheep, what have they done? let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house.

WLC ¹⁷ וַיֹּאמֶר֩ דָּוִ֨ד אֶל־ יְהוָ֜ה בִּרְאֹת֣וֹ ׀ אֶֽת־ הַמַּלְאָ֣ךְ ׀ הַמַּכֶּ֣ה בָעָ֗ם וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הִנֵּ֨ה אָנֹכִ֤י חָטָ֙אתִי֙ וְאָנֹכִ֣י הֶעֱוֵ֔יתִי וְאֵ֥לֶּה הַצֹּ֖אן מֶ֣ה עָשׂ֑וּ תְּהִ֨י נָ֥א יָדְךָ֛ בִּ֖י וּבְבֵ֥ית אָבִֽי׃

DRB ¹⁸ Et Gad vint vers David, ce jour-là, et lui dit : Monte, dresse un autel à l'Éternel dans l'aire d'Arauna, le Jébusien.

KJV ¹⁸ And Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto the LORD in the threshingfloor of Araunah the Jebusite.

WLC ¹⁸ וַיָּבֹא־ גָ֥ד אֶל־ דָּוִ֖ד בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֑וּא וַיֹּ֣אמֶר ל֗וֹ עֲלֵה֙ הָקֵ֤ם לַֽיהוָה֙ מִזְבֵּ֔חַ בְּגֹ֖רֶן הַיְבֻסִֽי׃

DRB ¹⁹ Et David monta selon a parole de Gad, comme l'Éternel l'avait commandé.

KJV ¹⁹ And David, according to the saying of Gad, went up as the LORD commanded.

WLC ¹⁹ וַיַּ֤עַל דָּוִד֙ כִּדְבַר־ גָּ֔ד כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר צִוָּ֥ה יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ²⁰ Et Arauna regarda, et il vit le roi et ses serviteurs qui passaient vers lui ; et Arauna sortit, et se prosterna devant le roi, le visage contre terre.

KJV ²⁰ And Araunah looked, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king on his face upon the ground.

WLC ²⁰ וַיַּשְׁקֵ֣ף אֲרַ֗וְנָה וַיַּ֤רְא אֶת־ הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ וְאֶת־ עֲבָדָ֔יו עֹבְרִ֖ים עָלָ֑יו וַיֵּצֵ֣א אֲרַ֔וְנָה וַיִּשְׁתַּ֧חוּ לַמֶּ֛לֶךְ אַפָּ֖יו אָֽרְצָה׃

DRB ²¹ Et Arauna dit : Pourquoi le roi, mon seigneur, vient-il vers son serviteur ? Et David dit : pour acheter de toi l'aire, pour bâtir un autel à l'Éternel, afin que la plaie soit arrêtée de dessus le peuple.

KJV ²¹ And Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshingfloor of thee, to build an altar unto the LORD, that the plague may be stayed from the people.

WLC ²¹ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר אֲרַ֔וְנָה מַדּ֛וּעַ בָּ֥א אֲדֹנִֽי־ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ אֶל־ עַבְדּ֑וֹ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר דָּוִ֜ד לִקְנ֧וֹת מֵעִמְּךָ֣ אֶת־ הַגֹּ֗רֶן לִבְנ֤וֹת מִזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה וְתֵעָצַ֥ר הַמַּגֵּפָ֖ה מֵעַ֥ל הָעָֽם׃

DRB ²² Et Arauna dit à David : Que le roi, mon seigneur, prenne et offre* ce qui est bon à ses yeux. Vois, les bœufs seront pour l'holocauste, et les traîneaux à fouler et l'attirail des bœufs, pour le bois.

KJV ²² And Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, here be oxen for burnt sacrifice, and threshing instruments and other instruments of the oxen for wood.

WLC ²² וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲרַ֙וְנָה֙ אֶל־ דָּוִ֔ד יִקַּ֥ח וְיַ֛עַל אֲדֹנִ֥י הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ הַטּ֣וֹב רְאֵה֙ הַבָּקָ֣ר לָעֹלָ֔ה וְהַמֹּרִגִּ֛ים וּכְלֵ֥י הַבָּקָ֖ר לָעֵצִֽים׃

DRB ²³ Tout cela, ô roi ! Arauna le donne au roi. Et Arauna dit au roi : L'Éternel, ton Dieu, veuille t'avoir pour agréable !

KJV ²³ All these things did Araunah, as a king, give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, The LORD thy God accept thee.

WLC ²³ הַכֹּ֗ל נָתַ֛ן אֲרַ֥וְנָה הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ לַמֶּ֑לֶךְ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֲרַ֙וְנָה֙ אֶל־ הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ יִרְצֶֽךָ׃

DRB ²⁴ Et le roi dit à Arauna : Non, car certainement j'achèterai de toi pour un prix, et je n'offrirai* pas à l'Éternel, mon Dieu, des holocaustes qui ne coûtent rien. Et David acheta l'aire et les bœufs pour cinquante sicles d'argent.

KJV ²⁴ And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

WLC ²⁴ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר הַמֶּ֜לֶךְ אֶל־ אֲרַ֗וְנָה לֹ֚א כִּֽי־ קָנ֨וֹ אֶקְנֶ֤ה מֵאֽוֹתְךָ֙ בִּמְחִ֔יר וְלֹ֧א אַעֲלֶ֛ה לַיהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהַ֖י עֹל֣וֹת חִנָּ֑ם וַיִּ֨קֶן דָּוִ֤ד אֶת־ הַגֹּ֙רֶן֙ וְאֶת־ הַבָּקָ֔ר בְּכֶ֖סֶף שְׁקָלִ֥ים חֲמִשִּֽׁים׃

DRB ²⁵ Et David bâtit là un autel à l'Éternel, et offrit* des holocaustes et des sacrifices de prospérités. Et l'Éternel fut propice au pays ; et la plaie fut arrêtée de dessus Israël.

KJV ²⁵ And David built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.

WLC ²⁵ וַיִּבֶן֩ שָׁ֨ם דָּוִ֤ד מִזְבֵּ֙חַ֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה וַיַּ֥עַל עֹל֖וֹת וּשְׁלָמִ֑ים וַיֵּעָתֵ֤ר יְהוָה֙ לָאָ֔רֶץ וַתֵּעָצַ֥ר הַמַּגֵּפָ֖ה מֵעַ֥ל יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃
