BCC ¹² Alors j'ai tourné les regards vers la sagesse pour la comparer avec la sottise et la folie. Car quel est l'homme qui pourrait venir après le roi, lui à qui on a conféré cette dignité depuis longtemps ?

BCC ¹⁵ Et j'ai aussi reconnu qu'un même sort les atteindra tous deux, et j'ai dit dans mon coeur : « Le même sort que celui de l'insensé m'atteindra moi aussi ; à quoi bon donc toute ma sagesse ? » et j'ai dit dans mon coeur que cela encore est une vanité.

BCC ¹⁶ Car la mémoire du sage n'est pas plus éternelle que celle de l'insensé ; dès les jours qui suivent, tous deux sont également oubliés. Eh quoi ! Le sage meurt aussi bien que l'insensé !

KJV ¹⁶ For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool.

KJV ²³ For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This is also vanity.

VULC ²³ Cuncti dies ejus doloribus et ærumnis pleni sunt,
nec per noctem mente requiescit.
