Ex 15-16 (Annotée Neuchâtel)

   ¹ Alors Moïse et les fils d'Israël chantèrent ce cantique à l'Eternel. Ils dirent :
Je veux chanter à l'Eternel, car il a été souverainement grand,
Il a précipité dans la mer cheval et cavalier.
   ² L'Eternel est ma force et mon chant de louange, il a été mon salut.
C'est lui qui est mon Dieu, je le célébrerai,
Le Dieu de mon père, je l'exalterai.
   ³ L'Eternel est un guerrier,
L'Eternel est son nom.
   ⁴ Il a jeté dans la mer, les chars de Pharaon et son armée,
L'élite de ses capitaines a été engloutie dans la mer Rouge.
   ⁵ Les flots les couvrent,
Ils sont descendus dans l'abîme comme une pierre.
   ⁶ Ta droite, Eternel, a montré sa force immense,
Ta droite, Eternel, brise l'ennemi.
   ⁷ Par la grandeur de ta majesté, tu renverses tes adversaires,
Tu déchaînes ton courroux, il les consume comme du chaume.
   ⁸ Au souffle de tes narines, les eaux se sont amoncelées,
Les ondes se sont dressées comme une digue,
Les flots se sont figés au sein de la mer.
   ⁹ L'ennemi disait : Je poursuivrai, j'atteindrai,
Je partagerai les dépouilles, ma vengeance se repaîtra d'eux,
Je tirerai l'épée, ma main les exterminera.
   ¹⁰ Ton haleine a soufflé, la mer les a couverts !
Ils se sont enfoncés comme du plomb dans les vastes eaux.
   ¹¹ Qui est comme toi entre les dieux, Eternel ?
Qui est comme toi, auguste en sainteté,
Redoutable à louer, opérant des merveilles ? ¹² Tu as étendu ta droite, la terre les engloutit.
   ¹³ Tu as conduit par ta grâce ce peuple que tu as affranchi,
Tu l'as dirigé par ta puissance vers ta résidence sainte.
   ¹⁴ En l'apprenant, les peuples frémiront :
L'angoisse s'empare des habitants de la Philistie,
   ¹⁵ Déjà les chefs d'Edom sont épouvantés,
Un tremblement saisit les vaillants hommes de Moab,
Tous les habitants de Canaan tombent en défaillance.
   ¹⁶ La terreur et la détresse fondront sur eux ;
Par la force de ton bras ils seront comme pétrifiés,
Jusqu'à ce qu'ait passé ton peuple, ô Eternel !
Jusqu'à ce qu'ait passé ce peuple que tu t'es acquis.
   ¹⁷ Tu les amèneras et les implanteras sur la montagne qui t'appartient,
Au lieu dont tu as fait ta demeure, ô Eternel,
Au sanctuaire, Seigneur, que tes mains ont érigé. ¹⁸ L'Eternel régnera pour toujours et à jamais ! ¹⁹ Car les chevaux de Pharaon avec ses chars et ceux qui les montaient étaient entrés dans la mer, et l'Eternel avait ramené sur eux les eaux de la mer et les fils d'Israël avaient traversé la mer à sec. ²⁰ Et Marie la prophétesse, soeur d'Aaron, prit en main le tambourin, et toutes les femmes s'avancèrent à sa suite avec des tambourins et avec des danses, ²¹ et Marie répondait aux fils d'Israël :
Chantez à l'Eternel, car il a été souverainement grand,

   ²² Moïse fit partir Israël de la mer Rouge et ils s'avancèrent vers le désert de Sur et marchèrent trois jours dans le désert sans trouver d'eau. ²³ Et ils arrivèrent à Mara, et ils ne purent boire de l'eau de Mara, parce qu'elle est amère (c'est à cause de cela qu'on appelle ce lieu Mara). ²⁴ Alors le peuple murmura contre Moïse en disant : Que boirons-nous ? ²⁵ Et Moïse cria à l'Eternel, et l'Eternel lui indiqua un bois qu'il jeta dans l'eau, et l'eau devint douce. Ce fut là qu'il lui donna une prescription et une ordonnance, et ce fut la qu'il l'éprouva ²⁶ et dit : Si tu écoutes attentivement la voix de l'Eternel ton Dieu et que tu fasses ce qui est droit à ses yeux et que tu prêtes l'oreille à ses commandements et que tu observes toutes ses prescriptions, je ne mettrai sur toi aucune des maladies que j'ai mises sur les Egyptiens ; car c'est moi, l'Eternel, qui te guérit. ²⁷ Puis ils arrivèrent à Elim, et il y avait là douze sources d'eau et soixante-dix palmiers, et ils y campèrent près des eaux.

Exode 16

   ¹ Et toute l'assemblée des fils d'Israël partit d'Elim et ils arrivèrent au désert de Sin, qui est entre Elim et Sinaï, le quinzième jour du second mois après leur sortie du pays d'Egypte. ² Et toute l'assemblée des fils d'Israël murmura contre Moïse et contre Aaron dans le désert. ³ Et les fils d'Israël leur dirent : Que ne sommes-nous morts de la main de l'Eternel dans la terre d'Egypte, quand nous étions assis devant les pots de viande, quand nous mangions du pain tout notre soûl ! Car vous nous avez poussés dans ce désert pour faire mourir de faim toute cette multitude. ⁴ Alors l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Je vais vous faire pleuvoir du pain du haut des cieux, et le peuple sortira et en recueillera jour par jour ce qu'il lui faut, afin que je l'éprouve [pour voir] s'il marchera en ma loi ou non. ⁵ Mais le sixième jour ils prépareront ce qu'ils en apporteront et il y en aura le double de ce qu'ils en recueillent chaque jour. ⁶ Et Moïse et Aaron dirent à tous les fils d'Israël : Ce soir vous saurez que c'est l'Eternel qui vous a fait sortir du pays d'Egypte, ⁷ et demain matin vous verrez la gloire de l'Eternel, car il entend vos murmures qui sont contre l'Eternel. Nous, que sommes-nous, que vous murmuriez contre nous ? ⁸ Et Moïse dit : Ce sera quand l'Eternel vous donnera ce soir de la viande à manger, et demain du pain tout votre soûl ; car l'Eternel entend ce que vous murmurez contre lui. Nous, que sommes-nous ? Ce n'est pas contre nous que vous murmurez, c'est contre l'Eternel. ⁹ Et Moïse dit à Aaron : Dis à toute l'assemblée des fils d'Israël : Présentez-vous devant l'Eternel, car il a entendu vos murmures. ¹⁰ Et comme Aaron parlait à toute l'assemblée des fils d'Israël et que ceux-ci se tournaient vers le désert, voilà que la gloire de l'Eternel apparut dans la nuée. ¹¹ Et l'Eternel parla à Moïse et lui dit : ¹² J'ai entendu les murmures des fils d'Israël. Parle-leur ainsi : Dans la soirée vous mangerez de la viande et demain matin vous vous rassasierez de pain, et vous saurez que moi, l'Eternel, je suis votre Dieu.
   ¹³ Et le soir on vit monter les cailles et le camp en fut couvert. Et le matin il y avait une couche de rosée autour du camp, ¹⁴ et lorsque la couche de rosée se fut dissipée, on aperçut à la surface du désert de petits grains floconneux, de petits grains pareils à du givre sur le sol.
   ¹⁵ Et les fils d'Israël les virent et se dirent les uns aux autres : C'est de la manne !
car ils ne savaient ce que c'était. Et Moïse leur dit : C'est le pain que l'Eternel vous a donné pour nourriture. ¹⁶ Voici ce qu'a ordonné l'Eternel : Recueillez-en chacun ce qu'il en faut pour sa nourriture : un omer par tête, selon le nombre des personnes ; chacun en prendra pour ceux qui sont dans sa tente. ¹⁷ Les fils d'Israël firent ainsi et recueillirent de la manne, les uns beaucoup, les autres peu ; ¹⁸ puis ils la mesurèrent à l'omer, et celui qui en avait beaucoup n'avait rien de trop et celui qui en avait peu n'en manquait point : chacun en avait recueilli ce qu'il lui en fallait pour manger. ¹⁹ Et Moïse leur dit : Que personne n'en laisse jusqu'à demain ! ²⁰ Mais on n'écouta pas Moïse et il y eut des gens qui en gardèrent jusqu'au lendemain ; les vers s'y mirent et elle sentit mauvais. Et Moïse s'irrita contre eux. ²¹ Ils recueillirent donc la manne chaque matin, chacun selon sa consommation, et quand le soleil devenait ardent, elle fondait.
   ²² Mais le sixième jour ils en recueillirent le double, deux omers par personne, et tous les princes de l'assemblée vinrent le rapporter à Moïse, ²³ qui leur dit : C'est ce qu'a dit l'Eternel. Demain est un sabbat, un jour de repos saint à l'Eternel. Ce que vous avez à cuire au four, cuisez-le ; ce que vous avez à faire bouillir, faites-le bouillir ; et tout le surplus, mettez-le en réserve pour demain. ²⁴ Ils le serrèrent donc jusqu'au lendemain, comme Moïse l'avait ordonné, et cela ne sentit point mauvais et les vers ne s'y mirent point. ²⁵ Et Moïse dit : Mangez-la aujourd'hui, car aujourd'hui est sabbat en l'honneur de l'Eternel ; aujourd'hui vous n'en trouveriez point dans la campagne. ²⁶ Pendant six jours vous en recueillerez ; mais le septième jour, jour de sabbat, il n'y en aura pas. ²⁷ Or le septième jour, il y eut des gens qui sortirent pour en recueillir, mais ils n'en trouvèrent point. ²⁸ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Jusques à quand refuserez-vous de garder mes commandements et mes lois ? ²⁹ Voyez ! C'est parce que l'Eternel vous a donné le sabbat qu'il vous donne le sixième jour du pain pour deux jours. Que chacun reste où il est ; que nul ne sorte de chez soi le septième jour. ³⁰ Ainsi le peuple se reposa le septième jour. ³¹ Et la maison d'Israël donna à ce pain le nom de manne. Cette manne était comme de la graine de coriandre, blanche et ayant le goût de galette au miel.
   ³² Et Moïse dit : Voici ce que l'Eternel a ordonné : Conservez-en le contenu d'un omer pour vos descendants, afin qu'ils voient le pain que je vous ai fait manger dans le désert, quand je vous ai tirés de la terre d'Egypte. ³³ Moïse donc dit à Aaron : Prends une cruche et mets-y de la manne plein un omer, et place-la devant l'Eternel afin de la conserver pour vos descendants. ³⁴ Et selon que l'Eternel l'avait ordonné à Moïse, Aaron la plaça devant le Témoignage pour la conserver. ³⁵ Les fils d'Israël ont mangé la manne pendant quarante ans, jusqu'à ce qu'ils arrivassent en pays habité : ils ont mangé la manne jusqu'à ce qu'ils arrivassent aux confins du pays de Canaan. ³⁶ L'omer est le dixième de l'épha.

   ¹ Then sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto the LORD, and spake, saying, I will sing unto the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously: the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea. ² The LORD is my strength and song, and he is become my salvation: he is my God, and I will prepare him an habitation; my father's God, and I will exalt him. ³ The LORD is a man of war: the LORD is his name. ⁴ Pharaoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea: his chosen captains also are drowned in the Red sea. ⁵ The depths have covered them: they sank into the bottom as a stone. ⁶ Thy right hand, O LORD, is become glorious in power: thy right hand, O LORD, hath dashed in pieces the enemy. ⁷ And in the greatness of thine excellency thou hast overthrown them that rose up against thee: thou sentest forth thy wrath, which consumed them as stubble. ⁸ And with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were gathered together, the floods stood upright as an heap, and the depths were congealed in the heart of the sea. ⁹ The enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; my lust shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them. ¹⁰ Thou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: they sank as lead in the mighty waters. ¹¹ Who is like unto thee, O LORD, among the gods? who is like thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders? ¹² Thou stretchedst out thy right hand, the earth swallowed them. ¹³ Thou in thy mercy hast led forth the people which thou hast redeemed: thou hast guided them in thy strength unto thy holy habitation. ¹⁴ The people shall hear, and be afraid: sorrow shall take hold on the inhabitants of Palestina. ¹⁵ Then the dukes of Edom shall be amazed; the mighty men of Moab, trembling shall take hold upon them; all the inhabitants of Canaan shall melt away. ¹⁶ Fear and dread shall fall upon them; by the greatness of thine arm they shall be as still as a stone; till thy people pass over, O LORD, till the people pass over, which thou hast purchased. ¹⁷ Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, in the place, O LORD, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, in the Sanctuary, O LORD, which thy hands have established. ¹⁸ The LORD shall reign for ever and ever. ¹⁹ For the horse of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and the LORD brought again the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel went on dry land in the midst of the sea. ²⁰ And Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances. ²¹ And Miriam answered them, Sing ye to the LORD, for he hath triumphed gloriously; the horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.
   ²² So Moses brought Israel from the Red sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water. ²³ And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah. ²⁴ And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? ²⁵ And he cried unto the LORD; and the LORD shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet: there he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them, ²⁶ And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee. ²⁷ And they came to Elim, where were twelve wells of water, and threescore and ten palm trees: and they encamped there by the waters.

Exode 16

   ¹ And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt. ² And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness: ³ And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger. ⁴ Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no. ⁵ And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily. ⁶ And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt: ⁷ And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: and what are we, that ye murmur against us? ⁸ And Moses said, This shall be, when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD. ⁹ And Moses spake unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD: for he hath heard your murmurings. ¹⁰ And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud. ¹¹ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, ¹² I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.
   ¹³ And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host. ¹⁴ And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground. ¹⁵ And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat. ¹⁶ This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents. ¹⁷ And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less. ¹⁸ And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating. ¹⁹ And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning. ²⁰ Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them. ²¹ And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted.
   ²² And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses. ²³ And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning. ²⁴ And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein. ²⁵ And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field. ²⁶ Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none. ²⁷ And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none. ²⁸ And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws? ²⁹ See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day. ³⁰ So the people rested on the seventh day. ³¹ And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.
   ³² And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commandeth, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt. ³³ And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations. ³⁴ As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept. ³⁵ And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan. ³⁶ Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah.
