KJV ¹ And they took their journey from Elim, and all the congregation of the children of Israel came unto the wilderness of Sin, which is between Elim and Sinai, on the fifteenth day of the second month after their departing out of the land of Egypt.

KJV ² And the whole congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness:

KJV ³ And the children of Israel said unto them, Would to God we had died by the hand of the LORD in the land of Egypt, when we sat by the flesh pots, and when we did eat bread to the full; for ye have brought us forth into this wilderness, to kill this whole assembly with hunger.

MAR ³ Et les enfants d'Israël leur dirent : ha ! que ne sommes-nous morts par la main de l'Eternel au pays d'Egypte, quand nous étions assis près des potées de chair, et que nous mangions notre soûl de pain ; car vous nous avez amenés dans ce désert, pour faire mourir de faim toute cette assemblée.

KJV ⁴ Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no.

MAR ⁴ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : voici, je vais vous faire pleuvoir des cieux du pain, et le peuple sortira, et en recueillera chaque jour la provision d'un jour, afin que je l'éprouve, [pour voir] s'il observera ma Loi, ou non.

KJV ⁵ And it shall come to pass, that on the sixth day they shall prepare that which they bring in; and it shall be twice as much as they gather daily.

MAR ⁵ Mais qu'ils apprêtent au sixième jour ce qu'ils auront apporté, et qu'il y ait le double de ce qu'ils recueilleront chaque jour.

KJV ⁶ And Moses and Aaron said unto all the children of Israel, At even, then ye shall know that the LORD hath brought you out from the land of Egypt:

MAR ⁶ Moïse donc et Aaron dirent à tous les enfants d'Israël : ce soir vous saurez que l'Eternel vous a tirés du pays d'Egypte.

KJV ⁷ And in the morning, then ye shall see the glory of the LORD; for that he heareth your murmurings against the LORD: and what are we, that ye murmur against us?

MAR ⁷ Et au matin vous verrez la gloire de l'Eternel ; parce qu'il a ouï vos murmures, qui sont contre l'Eternel ; car que [sommes-nous], que vous murmuriez contre nous ?

KJV ⁸ And Moses said, This shall be, when the LORD shall give you in the evening flesh to eat, and in the morning bread to the full; for that the LORD heareth your murmurings which ye murmur against him: and what are we? your murmurings are not against us, but against the LORD.

MAR ⁸ Moïse dit donc : ce sera quand l'Eternel vous aura donné ce soir de la chair à manger, et qu'au matin il vous aura rassasiés de pain, parce qu'il a ouï vos murmures, par lesquels vous avez murmuré contre lui ; car que sommes-nous ? Vos murmures ne sont pas contre nous, mais contre l'Eternel.

KJV ⁹ And Moses spake unto Aaron, Say unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, Come near before the LORD: for he hath heard your murmurings.

MAR ⁹ Et Moïse dit à Aaron : dis à toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël : approchez-vous de la présence de l'Eternel ; car il a ouï vos murmures.

KJV ¹⁰ And it came to pass, as Aaron spake unto the whole congregation of the children of Israel, that they looked toward the wilderness, and, behold, the glory of the LORD appeared in the cloud.

MAR ¹⁰ Or il arriva qu'aussitôt qu'Aaron eut parlé à toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël, ils regardèrent vers le désert, et voici, la gloire de l'Eternel se montra dans la nuée.

KJV ¹¹ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

MAR ¹¹ Et l'Eternel parla à Moïse, en disant :

KJV ¹² I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel: speak unto them, saying, At even ye shall eat flesh, and in the morning ye shall be filled with bread; and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God.

MAR ¹² J'ai ouï les murmures des enfants d'Israël. Parle-leur et leur dis : entre les deux vêpres vous mangerez de la chair, et au matin vous serez rassasiés de pain ; et vous saurez que je suis l'Eternel votre Dieu.

KJV ¹³ And it came to pass, that at even the quails came up, and covered the camp: and in the morning the dew lay round about the host.

MAR ¹³ Sur le soir donc il monta des cailles, qui couvrirent le camp, et au matin il y eut une couche de rosée à l'entour du camp.

KJV ¹⁴ And when the dew that lay was gone up, behold, upon the face of the wilderness there lay a small round thing, as small as the hoar frost on the ground.

MAR ¹⁴ Et cette couche de rosée étant évanouie, voici sur la superficie du désert quelque chose de menu et de rond, comme du grésil sur la terre.

KJV ¹⁵ And when the children of Israel saw it, they said one to another, It is manna: for they wist not what it was. And Moses said unto them, This is the bread which the LORD hath given you to eat.

MAR ¹⁵ Ce que les enfants d'Israël ayant vu, ils se dirent l'un à l'autre : qu'est-ce ? car ils ne savaient ce que c'[était]. Et Moïse leur dit : c'est le pain que l'Eternel vous a donné à manger.

KJV ¹⁶ This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded, Gather of it every man according to his eating, an omer for every man, according to the number of your persons; take ye every man for them which are in his tents.

MAR ¹⁶ Or ce que l'Eternel a commandé, c'est que chacun en recueille autant qu'il lui en faut pour sa nourriture, un Homer par tête, selon le nombre de vos personnes ; chacun en prendra pour ceux qui sont dans sa tente.

KJV ¹⁷ And the children of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, some less.

MAR ¹⁷ Les enfants d'Israël firent donc ainsi ; et les uns en recueillirent plus, les autres moins.

KJV ¹⁸ And when they did mete it with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little had no lack; they gathered every man according to his eating.

MAR ¹⁸ Et ils le mesuraient par Homers ; et celui qui en avait recueilli beaucoup n'en avait pas plus [qu'il ne lui en fallait] ; ni celui qui en avait recueilli peu, n'en avait pas moins ; mais chacun en recueillait selon ce qu'il en pouvait manger.

KJV ¹⁹ And Moses said, Let no man leave of it till the morning.

MAR ¹⁹ Et Moïse leur avait dit : que personne n'en laisse rien de reste jusqu'au matin.

KJV ²⁰ Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto Moses; but some of them left of it until the morning, and it bred worms, and stank: and Moses was wroth with them.

MAR ²⁰ Mais il y en eut qui n'obéirent point à Moïse ; car quelques-uns en réservèrent jusqu'au matin ; et il s'y engendra des vers, et elle puait ; et Moïse se mit en grande colère contr’eux.

KJV ²¹ And they gathered it every morning, every man according to his eating: and when the sun waxed hot, it melted.

MAR ²¹ Ainsi chacun en recueillait tous les matins autant qu'il lui en fallait pour se nourrir, et lorsque la chaleur du soleil était venue, elle se fondait.

KJV ²² And it came to pass, that on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one man: and all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses.

MAR ²² Mais le sixième jour ils recueillirent du pain au double, deux Homers pour chacun ; et les principaux de l'assemblée vinrent pour le rapporter à Moïse.

KJV ²³ And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.

MAR ²³ Et il leur dit : c'est ce que l'Eternel a dit : Demain est le Repos, le Sabbat sanctifié à l'Eternel ; faites cuire ce que vous avez à cuire, et faites bouillir ce que vous avez à bouillir, et serrez tout ce qui sera de surplus, pour le garder jusqu'au matin.

KJV ²⁴ And they laid it up till the morning, as Moses bade: and it did not stink, neither was there any worm therein.

MAR ²⁴ Ils le serrèrent donc jusques au matin, comme Moïse l'avait commandé, et il ne pua point, ni il n'y eut point de vers dedans.

KJV ²⁵ And Moses said, Eat that to day; for to day is a sabbath unto the LORD: to day ye shall not find it in the field.

MAR ²⁵ Alors Moïse dit : mangez-le aujourd'hui ; car c'est aujourd'hui le Repos de l'Eternel ; aujourd'hui vous n'en trouverez point aux champs.

KJV ²⁶ Six days ye shall gather it; but on the seventh day, which is the sabbath, in it there shall be none.

MAR ²⁶ Durant six jours vous le recueillerez ; mais le septième est le Sabbat ; il n'y en aura point en ce jour-là.

KJV ²⁷ And it came to pass, that there went out some of the people on the seventh day for to gather, and they found none.

MAR ²⁷ Et au septième jour quelques-uns du peuple sortirent pour en recueillir ; mais ils n'[en] trouvèrent point.

KJV ²⁸ And the LORD said unto Moses, How long refuse ye to keep my commandments and my laws?

MAR ²⁸ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : jusques à quand refuserez-vous de garder mes commandements et mes lois ?

KJV ²⁹ See, for that the LORD hath given you the sabbath, therefore he giveth you on the sixth day the bread of two days; abide ye every man in his place, let no man go out of his place on the seventh day.

MAR ²⁹ Considérez que l'Eternel vous a ordonné le Sabbat, c'est pourquoi il vous donne au sixième jour du pain pour deux jours ; que chacun demeure au lieu où il sera, et qu'aucun ne sorte du lieu où il sera le septième jour.

KJV ³⁰ So the people rested on the seventh day.

MAR ³⁰ Le peuple donc se reposa le septième jour.

KJV ³¹ And the house of Israel called the name thereof Manna: and it was like coriander seed, white; and the taste of it was like wafers made with honey.

MAR ³¹ Et la maison d'Israël nomma [ce pain] Manne ; et elle était comme de la semence de coriandre, blanche, et ayant le goût des beignets au miel.

KJV ³² And Moses said, This is the thing which the LORD commandeth, Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations; that they may see the bread wherewith I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt.

MAR ³² Et Moïse dit : voici ce que l'Eternel a commandé : qu'on en remplisse un Homer, pour le garder dans vos âges, afin qu'on voie le pain que je vous ai fait manger au désert, après vous avoir retirés du pays d'Egypte.

KJV ³³ And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a pot, and put an omer full of manna therein, and lay it up before the LORD, to be kept for your generations.

MAR ³³ Moïse donc dit à Aaron : prends une cruche, et mets-y un plein Homer de Manne, et le pose devant l'Eternel, pour être gardé dans vos âges.

KJV ³⁴ As the LORD commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept.

MAR ³⁴ Et Aaron le posa devant le Témoignage pour y être gardé, selon que le Seigneur l'avait commandé à Moïse.

KJV ³⁵ And the children of Israel did eat manna forty years, until they came to a land inhabited; they did eat manna, until they came unto the borders of the land of Canaan.

MAR ³⁵ Et les enfants d'Israël mangèrent la Manne durant quarante ans, jusqu'à ce qu'ils furent parvenus en un pays habité ; ils mangèrent, [dis-je], la Manne, jusqu'à ce qu'ils furent parvenus aux frontières du pays de Chanaan.

KJV ³⁶ Now an omer is the tenth part of an ephah.

KJV ¹ And all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, after their journeys, according to the commandment of the LORD, and pitched in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.

MAR ¹ Et toute l'assemblée des enfants d'Israël partit du désert de Sin, selon leurs traites, suivant le mandement de l'Eternel, et ils se campèrent en Réphidim, où il n'y avait point d'eau à boire pour le peuple.

KJV ² Wherefore the people did chide with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why chide ye with me? wherefore do ye tempt the LORD?

MAR ² Et le peuple se souleva contre Moïse, et ils lui dirent : donnez-nous de l'eau pour boire. Et Moïse leur dit : pourquoi vous soulevez-vous contre moi ? Pourquoi tentez-vous l'Eternel ?

KJV ³ And the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore is this that thou hast brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?

MAR ³ Le peuple donc eut soif en ce lieu-là, par faute d'eau ; et ainsi le peuple murmura contre Moïse, en disant : pourquoi nous as-tu fait monter hors d'Egypte, pour nous faire mourir de soif, nous, et nos enfants, et nos troupeaux ?

KJV ⁴ And Moses cried unto the LORD, saying, What shall I do unto this people? they be almost ready to stone me.

MAR ⁴ Et Moïse cria à l'Eternel, en disant : que ferai-je à ce peuple ? Dans peu ils me lapideront.

KJV ⁵ And the LORD said unto Moses, Go on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and thy rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thine hand, and go.

MAR ⁵ Et l'Eternel répondit à Moïse : passe devant le peuple, et prends avec toi des Anciens d'Israël, prends aussi en ta main la verge, avec laquelle tu as frappé le fleuve, et viens.

KJV ⁶ Behold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

MAR ⁶ Voici, je vais me tenir là devant toi sur le rocher en Horeb, et tu frapperas le rocher, et il en sortira des eaux, et le peuple boira. Moïse donc fit ainsi, les Anciens d'Israël le voyant.

KJV ⁷ And he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the chiding of the children of Israel, and because they tempted the LORD, saying, Is the LORD among us, or not?

KJV ⁸ Then came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

MAR ⁸ Alors Hamalec vint et livra la bataille à Israël en Réphidim.

KJV ⁹ And Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in mine hand.

KJV ¹⁰ So Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

KJV ¹⁴ And the LORD said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: for I will utterly put out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.

KJV ¹⁵ And Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovahnissi:

KJV ¹⁶ For he said, Because the LORD hath sworn that the LORD will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.

KJV ¹ When Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father in law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, and that the LORD had brought Israel out of Egypt;

MAR ¹ Or Jéthro, Sacrificateur de Madian, beau-père de Moïse, ayant appris toutes les choses que l'Eternel avait faites à Moïse, et à Israël son peuple, [savoir], comment l'Eternel avait retiré Israël de l'Egypte,

KJV ² Then Jethro, Moses' father in law, took Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her back,

KJV ³ And her two sons; of which the name of the one was Gershom; for he said, I have been an alien in a strange land:

KJV ⁴ And the name of the other was Eliezer; for the God of my father, said he, was mine help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh:

KJV ⁵ And Jethro, Moses' father in law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness, where he encamped at the mount of God:

MAR ⁵ Jéthro donc, beau-père de Moïse, vint à Moïse avec ses enfants et sa femme au désert, où il était campé, en la montagne de Dieu.

KJV ⁶ And he said unto Moses, I thy father in law Jethro am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.

MAR ⁶ Et il fit dire à Moïse : Jéthro ton beau-père, vient à toi, et ta femme, et ses deux fils avec elle.

KJV ⁷ And Moses went out to meet his father in law, and did obeisance, and kissed him; and they asked each other of their welfare; and they came into the tent.

MAR ⁷ Et Moïse sortit au-devant de son beau-père, et s'étant prosterné le baisa ; et ils s'enquirent l'un de l'autre touchant leur prospérité ; puis ils entrèrent dans la tente.

KJV ⁸ And Moses told his father in law all that the LORD had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, and all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and how the LORD delivered them.

KJV ⁹ And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which the LORD had done to Israel, whom he had delivered out of the hand of the Egyptians.

MAR ⁹ Et Jéthro se réjouit de tout le bien que l'Eternel avait fait à Israël, parce qu'il les avait délivrés de la main des Egyptiens.

KJV ¹⁰ And Jethro said, Blessed be the LORD, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh, who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.

KJV ¹¹ Now I know that the LORD is greater than all gods: for in the thing wherein they dealt proudly he was above them.

MAR ¹¹ Je connais maintenant que l'Eternel est grand par-dessus tous les Dieux, car en cela même en quoi ils se sont enorgueillis, il a eu le dessus sur eux.

KJV ¹² And Jethro, Moses' father in law, took a burnt offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father in law before God.

MAR ¹² Jéthro, beau-père de Moïse, prit aussi un holocauste et des sacrifices [pour les offrir] à Dieu ; et Aaron et tous les Anciens d'Israël, vinrent pour manger du pain avec le beau-père de Moïse en la présence de Dieu.

KJV ¹³ And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood by Moses from the morning unto the evening.

KJV ¹⁴ And when Moses' father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?

MAR ¹⁴ Que le beau-père de Moïse vit tout ce qu'il faisait au peuple, et il lui dit : qu'est-ce que tu fais à l'égard de ce peuple ? Pourquoi es-tu assis seul, et tout le peuple se tient devant toi, depuis le matin jusqu'au soir ?

KJV ¹⁵ And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God:

MAR ¹⁵ Et Moïse répondit à son beau-père : [c'est] que le peuple vient à moi pour s'enquérir de Dieu.

KJV ¹⁶ When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.

MAR ¹⁶ Quand ils ont quelque affaire ils viennent à moi, et je juge entre l'un et l'autre, et leur fais entendre les ordonnances de Dieu, et ses lois.

KJV ¹⁷ And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.

MAR ¹⁷ Mais le beau-père de Moïse lui dit : ce que tu fais n'est pas bien.

KJV ¹⁸ Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.

MAR ¹⁸ Certainement tu succomberas, toi et ce peuple qui est avec toi ; car cela est trop pesant pour toi ; tu ne saurais faire cela toi seul.

KJV ¹⁹ Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:

KJV ²⁰ And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.

KJV ²² And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.

KJV ²³ If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.

KJV ²⁴ So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.

KJV ²⁵ And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

MAR ²⁵ Ainsi Moïse choisit de tout Israël des hommes vertueux, et les établit chefs sur le peuple, chefs de milliers, chefs de centaines, chefs de cinquantaines, et chefs de dizaines ;

KJV ²⁶ And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.

MAR ²⁶ Lesquels devaient juger le peuple en tout temps, mais ils devaient rapporter à Moïse les choses difficiles, et juger de toutes les petites affaires.

KJV ²⁷ And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land.

MAR ²⁷ Puis Moïse laissa partir son beau-père, qui s'en alla en son pays.
