Ex 5-8 (Annotée Neuchâtel)

   ¹ Après cela, Moïse et Aaron étant venus vers Pharaon lui dirent : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel, Dieu d'Israël : Laisse aller mon peuple pour qu'il célèbre une fête en mon honneur dans le désert. ² Et Pharaon dit : Qui est l'Eternel, que j'obéisse à sa voix en laissant aller Israël ? Je ne connais pas l'Eternel, aussi ne laisserai-je pas aller Israël.
   ³ Et ils dirent : Le Dieu des Hébreux s'est manifesté à nous. Nous voudrions aller à trois journées de marche dans le désert pour sacrifier à l'Eternel notre Dieu, de peur qu'il ne nous frappe par la peste ou par l'épée. ⁴ Et le roi d'Egypte leur dit : Pourquoi, Moïse et Aaron, faites-vous quitter au peuple son ouvrage ? Allez à vos corvées ! ⁵ Et Pharaon dit : Voici le bas peuple est maintenant nombreux et vous lui faites cesser ses corvées ! ⁶ Et en ce jour-là Pharaon donna aux exacteurs du peuple et à ses contremaîtres l'ordre suivant : ⁷ Vous ne donnerez plus de paille aux gens pour faire les briques, comme on l'a fait jusqu'ici ; ils iront eux-mêmes ramasser la paille qu'il leur faut. ⁸ Mais vous leur imposerez la tâche de briques qu'ils ont toujours faite ; vous n'en retrancherez rien, car ce sont des paresseux ; c'est pourquoi ils crient : Nous voudrions aller faire un sacrifice à notre Dieu. ⁹ Que les gens soient chargés d'ouvrage et s'y occupent, et qu'ils ne fassent plus attention aux mensonges qu'on leur dit.
   ¹⁰ Et les exacteurs du peuple et ses contremaîtres allèrent parler ainsi au peuple : Ainsi a dit Pharaon : Je ne vous donne plus de paille. ¹¹ Allez donc vous-mêmes prendre de la paille où vous en trouverez, car rien ne sera retranché de votre tâche. ¹² Et le peuple se répandit dans tout le pays d'Egypte afin de ramasser du chaume pour en faire de la paille hachée. ¹³ Et les exacteurs les pressaient disant : Faites tout votre ouvrage, jour par jour, comme quand on avait la paille ! ¹⁴ Et l'on battit les contremaîtres des fils d'Israël, qu'avaient établis sur eux les exacteurs de Pharaon, en leur disant : Pourquoi n'avez-vous pas fait ces jours-ci toute votre tâche de briques comme précédemment ?
   ¹⁵ Et les contremaîtres des fils d'Israël allèrent réclamer à Pharaon et lui dirent : Pourquoi traiterais-tu ainsi tes serviteurs ? ¹⁶ On ne fournit pas de paille à tes serviteurs et on nous dit : Faites des briques ! Et comme cela tes serviteurs sont battus et ton peuple se trouve en faute ! ¹⁷ Et Pharaon dit : Vous êtes des paresseux, des paresseux ! c'est pourquoi vous dites : Nous voudrions aller faire un sacrifice à l'Eternel. ¹⁸ Et maintenant allez travailler, on ne vous donnera pas de paille et vous ferez votre tâche de briques. ¹⁹ Et les contremaîtres des fils d'Israël se virent dans une position fâcheuse, puisqu'on leur disait : Vous ne retrancherez rien de vos briques ; à chaque jour sa tâche ! ²⁰ Ils trouvèrent Moïse et Aaron qui se tenaient là pour les attendre quand ils sortiraient de chez Pharaon, ²¹ et ils leur dirent : Que l'Eternel vous voie et qu'il juge, vous qui nous avez mis en mauvaise odeur auprès de Pharaon et auprès de ses serviteurs et qui leur avez mis l'épée à la main pour nous tuer ! ²² Alors Moïse retourna vers l'Eternel et dit : Seigneur ! Pourquoi as-tu fait du mal à ce peuple ? Pourquoi donc m'as-tu envoyé ? ²³ Depuis que je me suis présenté à Pharaon pour lui parler en ton nom, il a fait du mal à ce peuple et tu n'as pas du tout délivré ton peuple !

Exode 6

   ¹ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Maintenant tu verras ce que je ferai à Pharaon ! Contraint par une main forte il les laissera aller. Contraint par une main forte il les chassera de son pays. ² Et Dieu parla à Moïse et lui dit : Je suis l'Eternel. ³ Je suis apparu à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob comme Dieu puissant, mais sous mon nom d'ETERNEL je ne me suis pas fait connaître à eux. ⁴ Non seulement j'ai établi mon alliance avec eux pour leur donner le pays de Canaan, le pays où ils ont séjourné en étrangers, ⁵ mais encore j'ai entendu le gémissement des fils d'Israël que les Egyptiens asservissent, et je me suis souvenu de mon alliance. ⁶ C'est pourquoi dis aux fils d'Israël : Je suis l'Eternel, et je vous soustrairai aux corvées des Egyptiens et vous tirerai de leur service, et je vous libérerai à bras étendu et par de grands jugements. ⁷ Et je vous prendrai pour mon peuple, et je vous serai Dieu et vous saurez que je suis l'Eternel votre Dieu qui vous soustrais aux corvées des Egyptiens ; ⁸ et je vous ferai entrer dans le pays que j'ai juré de donner à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob, et je vous le donnerai en possession. Je suis l'Eternel. ⁹ Et Moïse parla ainsi aux fils d'Israël, et ils n'écoutèrent pas Moïse parce qu'ils avaient perdu patience et que leur service était dur.
   ¹⁰ Et l'Eternel parla à Moïse, disant : ¹¹ Va parler à Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, pour qu'il laisse partir de son pays les fils d'Israël. ¹² Et Moïse parla devant l'Eternel et dit : Si les fils d'Israël ne m'ont pas écouté, comment Pharaon m'écoutera-t-il, moi qui suis incirconcis de lèvres ! ¹³ L'Eternel parla à Moïse et à Aaron et les envoya aux fils d'Israël et à Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, avec l'ordre de tirer les fils d'Israël hors du pays d'Egypte.
   ¹⁴ Ce sont ici leurs patriarches :
Fils de Ruben, premier-né d'Israël : Hénoc et Pallu, Hetsron et Carmi. Telles sont les branches de la tribu de Ruben. ¹⁵ Fils de Siméon : Jémuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Tsohar et Saül, fils de la Cananéenne. Telles sont les branches de la tribu de Siméon. ¹⁶ Et ce sont ici les noms des fils de Lévi, avec leurs postérités : Guersom, Kéhath et Mérari. Et la vie de Lévi fut de cent trente-sept ans. ¹⁷ Fils de Guersom : Libni et Siméi, avec leurs diverses branches. ¹⁸ Fils de Kéhath : Amram, Jitsébar, Hébron et Uzziel. Et la vie de Kéhath fut de cent trente-trois ans. ¹⁹ Fils de Mérari : Machli et Muschi. Telles sont les branches de la tribu de Lévi, avec leurs postérités. ²⁰ Et Amram prit pour femme Jokébed, sa tante, et elle lui enfanta Aaron et Moïse. Et la vie d'Amram fut de cent trente-sept ans. ²¹ Fils de Jitsébar : Koré, Népheg et Zicri. ²² Fils d'Uzziel : Misaël, Eltsaphan et Sitri. ²³ Et Aaron prit pour femme Eliséba, fille d'Amminadab et soeur de Nahason, et elle lui enfanta Nadab, Abibu, Eléazar et Ithamar. ²⁴ Fils de Koré : Assir, Elkana, Abiasaph. Telles sont les branches, des Koréites.
   ²⁵ Et Eléazar, fils d'Aaron, prit pour femme une des filles de Putiel, et elle lui enfanta Phinées.
Tels sont les patriarches des Lévites dans leurs différentes branches. ²⁶ Ce sont là l'Aaron et le Moïse auxquels l'Eternel dit : Faites sortir du pays d'Egypte les fils d'Israël, selon leurs armées. ²⁷ Ce sont ceux qui parlèrent à Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, pour tirer d'Egypte les fils d'Israël. C'est ce Moïse-là et cet Aaron-là. ²⁸ Et il arriva, le jour où l'Eternel parla à Moïse au pays d'Egypte, ²⁹ que l'Eternel parla à Moïse disant : Je suis l'Eternel. Dis à Pharaon, roi d'Egypte, tout ce que je te dis. ³⁰ Et Moïse dit en présence de l'Eternel : Voici, je suis incirconcis de lèvres ; comment Pharaon m'écoutera-t-il ?

Exode 7

   ¹ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Vois, j'ai fait de toi un dieu pour Pharaon, et Aaron ton frère sera ton prophète. ² Toi, tu diras tout ce dont je te chargerai, et Aaron ton frère parlera à Pharaon pour qu'il laisse sortir de son pays les fils d'Israël. ³ Et moi, j'endurcirai le coeur de Pharaon et je multiplierai mes signes et mes miracles dans le pays d'Egypte. ⁴ Et Pharaon ne vous écoutera pas, et je mettrai ma main sur l'Egypte et je ferai sortir du pays d'Egypte par de grands jugements mes armées, mon peuple, les fils d'Israël. ⁵ Et les Egyptiens sauront que je suis l'Eternel, quand j'étendrai ma main sur l'Egypte et que je ferai sortir les fils d'Israël du milieu d'eux. ⁶ Ainsi firent Moïse et Aaron. Ils firent tout ce que l'Eternel leur avait commandé. ⁷ Or Moïse avait quatre-vingts ans et Aaron quatre-vingt-trois, lorsqu'ils parlèrent à Pharaon.
   ⁸ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse et à Aaron : ⁹ Quand Pharaon vous dira : Faites un miracle, tu diras à Aaron : Prends ton bâton et jette-le devant Pharaon ; qu'il devienne un serpent ! ¹⁰ Et Moïse et Aaron se rendirent vers Pharaon et firent selon que l'Eternel l'avait ordonné. Aaron jeta son bâton devant Pharaon et devant ses serviteurs, et il devint un dragon. ¹¹ Et Pharaon aussi appela ses sages et ses magiciens, et eux aussi, les enchanteurs d'Egypte, firent la même chose par leurs arts occultes : ¹² ils jetèrent chacun son bâton et ces bâtons devinrent des dragons. Et le bâton d'Aaron engloutit leurs bâtons. ¹³ Et le coeur de Pharaon s'endurcit, et il ne les écouta pas, selon que l'Eternel l'avait dit.
   ¹⁴ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Le coeur de Pharaon est appesanti. Il a refusé de laisser aller le peuple. ¹⁵ Va vers Pharaon demain matin. Il sortira pour aller au bord de l'eau et tu te tiendras, pour l'attendre, sur le bord du fleuve. Tu prendras en main le bâton qui a été changé en serpent ¹⁶ et tu lui diras : L'Eternel, Dieu des Hébreux, m'a envoyé vers toi pour te dire : Laisse aller mon peuple afin qu'il me serve dans le désert. Et voici, tu n'as jusqu'à présent pas obéi. ¹⁷ Ainsi a dit l'Eternel : A ceci tu connaîtras que je suis l'Eternel : je vais frapper, du bâton que j'ai à la main, les eaux qui sont dans le fleuve et elles se changeront en sang, ¹⁸ et le poisson qui est dans le fleuve périra et le fleuve deviendra infect et les Egyptiens répugneront à boire de l'eau du fleuve. ¹⁹ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Dis à Aaron : Prends ton bâton et étends la main sur l'eau de l'Egypte, sur ses fleuves, sur ses canaux, sur ses étangs et sur tous ses réservoirs, et elle sera du sang, et il y aura du sang dans tout le pays d'Egypte jusque dans les vases de bois et de pierre. ²⁰ Et Moïse et Aaron firent comme l'Eternel l'avait commandé : Aaron leva le bâton et frappa l'eau qui était dans le fleuve, aux yeux de Pharaon et aux yeux de ses serviteurs, et toute l'eau qui était dans le fleuve se changea en sang, ²¹ et les poissons qui étaient dans le fleuve périrent et le fleuve devint infect et les Egyptiens ne purent boire de l'eau du fleuve, et il y eut du sang dans tout le pays d'Egypte. ²² Et les enchanteurs d'Egypte firent la même chose par leurs arts occultes. Et le coeur de Pharaon s'endurcit, et il ne les écouta pas, selon que l'Eternel l'avait dit. ²³ Et Pharaon se détourna et entra en sa maison et ne fit point attention même à cela. ²⁴ Et tous les Egyptiens creusèrent aux environs du fleuve pour trouver de l'eau potable puisqu'ils ne pouvaient boire de l'eau du fleuve. ²⁵ Et il s'écoula sept jours après que l'Eternel eut frappé le fleuve.

Exode 8

   ¹ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Rends-toi vers Pharaon et dis-lui : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel : Laisse aller mon peuple, et qu'il me serve. ² Et si tu refuses de le laisser aller, je vais frapper tout ton territoire du fléau des grenouilles : ³ le fleuve pullulera de grenouilles, elles monteront et entreront dans ta maison, dans ta chambre à coucher, sur ton lit, et dans la maison de tes serviteurs et au milieu de ton peuple, dans tes fours et dans tes pétrins. ⁴ Les grenouilles monteront sur toi, sur ton peuple et sur tous tes serviteurs. ⁵ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Dis à Aaron : Etends ta main et ton bâton sur les fleuves, sur les canaux et sur les étangs, et fais monter les grenouilles sur le pays d'Egypte. ⁶ Et Aaron étendit sa main sur l'eau d'Egypte, et les grenouilles montèrent et couvrirent le pays d'Egypte. ⁷ Et les enchanteurs firent la même chose par leurs arts, occultes : ils firent monter les grenouilles sur le pays d'Egypte. ⁸ Et Pharaon appela Moïse et Aaron et leur dit : Faites des prières à l'Eternel pour qu'il éloigne les grenouilles de moi et de mon peuple, et je laisserai aller le peuple pour qu'il sacrifie à l'Eternel. ⁹ Et Moïse dit à Pharaon : Donne-moi tes ordres ! Pour quand ferai-je des prières en faveur de toi, de tes serviteurs et de ton peuple, pour que l'Eternel éloigne les grenouilles de toi et de tes maisons ? Il n'en restera que dans le fleuve. ¹⁰ Et Pharaon dit : Pour demain. Moïse dit : Il en sera comme tu le demandes, afin que tu saches que nul n'est pareil à l'Eternel notre Dieu. ¹¹ Les grenouilles se retireront de toi, de tes maisons, de tes serviteurs et de ton peuple ; il n'en restera que dans le fleuve. ¹² Et Moïse et Aaron sortirent d'auprès de Pharaon. Et Moïse cria à l'Eternel au sujet des grenouilles qu'il avait infligées à Pharaon. ¹³ Et l'Eternel fit ce que Moïse demandait : les grenouilles périrent clans les maisons, dans les cours et dans les champs, ¹⁴ et on les enfouit par grandes masses et le pays en fut infecté. ¹⁵ Et Pharaon, se voyant tranquille, appesantit son coeur et ne les écouta pas, selon que l'Eternel l'avait dit.
   ¹⁶ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Dis à Aaron : Etends ton bâton et frappe la poussière de la terre, et elle deviendra des moustiques dans tout le pays d'Egypte. ¹⁷ Et ils firent ainsi ; Aaron étendit sa main et son bâton et frappa la poussière de la terre, et les moustiques furent sur les hommes et sur le bétail : toute la poussière de la terre était moustiques dans tout le pays d'Egypte. ¹⁸ Et les enchanteurs firent la même chose par leurs arts occultes, en vue de produire les moustiques, et ils ne le purent pas. Les moustiques furent sur les hommes et sur le bétail.
   ¹⁹ Et les enchanteurs dirent à Pharaon : C'est le doigt d'un dieu !
Et le coeur de Pharaon s'endurcit, et il ne les écouta pas, selon que l'Eternel l'avait dit.
   ²⁰ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Va de bon matin te placer devant Pharaon, au moment où il sort pour aller au bord de l'eau, et dis lui : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel : Laisse aller mon peuple, et qu'il me serve ! ²¹ Car, si tu ne laisses pas aller mon peuple, je vais envoyer les scarabées sur toi, sur tes serviteurs, sur ton peuple et sur tes maisons ; les scarabées rempliront les maisons des Egyptiens et le pays où ils sont, ²² et je distinguerai en ce jour-là la terre de Gossen où habite mon peuple en ce qu'il n'y aura point là de scarabées, afin que tu saches que moi l'Eternel je suis au milieu du pays. ²³ Ainsi je ferai une exemption qui distinguera mon peuple et ton peuple. C'est demain que ce signe aura lieu. ²⁴ Et l'Eternel fit ainsi. Il vint une quantité de scarabées chez Pharaon et chez ses serviteurs, et dans toute la terre d'Egypte le pays fut ravagé par les scarabées. ²⁵ Et Pharaon appela Moïse et Aaron et leur dit : Allez, sacrifiez à votre Dieu dans ce pays. ²⁶ Et Moïse dit : Il ne convient pas de faire ainsi, car c'est un sacrilège pour les Egyptiens que les sacrifices que nous faisons à l'Eternel notre Dieu. Pourrions-nous faire sous les yeux des Egyptiens des sacrifices qui sont pour eux des sacrilèges sans qu'ils nous lapidassent ? ²⁷ Nous irons à trois jours de marche dans le désert et nous sacrifierons à l'Eternel notre Dieu, selon qu'il nous le dira. ²⁸ Et Pharaon dit : Pour moi, je vous permettrai d'aller sacrifier à l'Eternel votre Dieu dans le désert ; seulement, ne vous éloignez pas. Faites des prières pour moi ! ²⁹ Et Moïse dit : Je vais sortir, de chez toi et faire des prières à l'Eternel, et demain les scarabées se retireront de Pharaon, de ses serviteurs et de soit peuple. Seulement, que Pharaon ne recommence pas à se moquer en ne permettant pas au peuple d'aller sacrifier à l'Eternel ! ³⁰ Et Moïse sortit de chez Pharaon et fit des prières à l'Eternel, ³¹ et l'Eternel fit ce que demandait Moïse et les scarabées se retirèrent de Pharaon, de ses serviteurs et de son peuple ; il n'en resta pas un seul. ³² Et Pharaon appesantit son coeur cette fois encore et ne laissa pas aller le peuple.

   ¹ And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness. ² And Pharaoh said, Who is the LORD, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the LORD, neither will I let Israel go.
   ³ And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword. ⁴ And the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, let the people from their works? get you unto your burdens. ⁵ And Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land now are many, and ye make them rest from their burdens. ⁶ And Pharaoh commanded the same day the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying, ⁷ Ye shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves. ⁸ And the tale of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish ought thereof: for they be idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God. ⁹ Let there more work be laid upon the men, that they may labour therein; and let them not regard vain words.
   ¹⁰ And the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw. ¹¹ Go ye, get you straw where ye can find it: yet not ought of your work shall be diminished. ¹² So the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble instead of straw. ¹³ And the taskmasters hasted them, saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw. ¹⁴ And the officers of the children of Israel, which Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task in making brick both yesterday and to day, as heretofore?
   ¹⁵ Then the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants? ¹⁶ There is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault is in thine own people. ¹⁷ But he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and do sacrifice to the LORD. ¹⁸ Go therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the tale of bricks. ¹⁹ And the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, after it was said, Ye shall not minish ought from your bricks of your daily task. ²⁰ And they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh: ²¹ And they said unto them, The LORD look upon you, and judge; because ye have made our savour to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us. ²² And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, LORD, wherefore hast thou so evil entreated this people? why is it that thou hast sent me? ²³ For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath done evil to this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.

Exode 6

   ¹ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Now shalt thou see what I will do to Pharaoh: for with a strong hand shall he let them go, and with a strong hand shall he drive them out of his land. ² And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: ³ And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them. ⁴ And I have also established my covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, wherein they were strangers. ⁵ And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel, whom the Egyptians keep in bondage; and I have remembered my covenant. ⁶ Wherefore say unto the children of Israel, I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will rid you out of their bondage, and I will redeem you with a stretched out arm, and with great judgments: ⁷ And I will take you to me for a people, and I will be to you a God: and ye shall know that I am the LORD your God, which bringeth you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians. ⁸ And I will bring you in unto the land, concerning the which I did swear to give it to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob; and I will give it you for an heritage: I am the LORD. ⁹ And Moses spake so unto the children of Israel: but they hearkened not unto Moses for anguish of spirit, and for cruel bondage.
   ¹⁰ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, ¹¹ Go in, speak unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, that he let the children of Israel go out of his land. ¹² And Moses spake before the LORD, saying, Behold, the children of Israel have not hearkened unto me; how then shall Pharaoh hear me, who am of uncircumcised lips? ¹³ And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, and gave them a charge unto the children of Israel, and unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.
   ¹⁴ These be the heads of their fathers' houses: The sons of Reuben the firstborn of Israel; Hanoch, and Pallu, Hezron, and Carmi: these be the families of Reuben. ¹⁵ And the sons of Simeon; Jemuel, and Jamin, and Ohad, and Jachin, and Zohar, and Shaul the son of a Canaanitish woman: these are the families of Simeon. ¹⁶ And these are the names of the sons of Levi according to their generations; Gershon, and Kohath, and Merari: and the years of the life of Levi were an hundred thirty and seven years. ¹⁷ The sons of Gershon; Libni, and Shimi, according to their families. ¹⁸ And the sons of Kohath; Amram, and Izhar, and Hebron, and Uzziel: and the years of the life of Kohath were an hundred thirty and three years. ¹⁹ And the sons of Merari; Mahali and Mushi: these are the families of Levi according to their generations. ²⁰ And Amram took him Jochebed his father's sister to wife; and she bare him Aaron and Moses: and the years of the life of Amram were an hundred and thirty and seven years. ²¹ And the sons of Izhar; Korah, and Nepheg, and Zichri. ²² And the sons of Uzziel; Mishael, and Elzaphan, and Zithri. ²³ And Aaron took him Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab, sister of Naashon, to wife; and she bare him Nadab, and Abihu, Eleazar, and Ithamar. ²⁴ And the sons of Korah; Assir, and Elkanah, and Abiasaph: these are the families of the Korhites. ²⁵ And Eleazar Aaron's son took him one of the daughters of Putiel to wife; and she bare him Phinehas: these are the heads of the fathers of the Levites according to their families. ²⁶ These are that Aaron and Moses, to whom the LORD said, Bring out the children of Israel from the land of Egypt according to their armies. ²⁷ These are they which spake to Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring out the children of Israel from Egypt: these are that Moses and Aaron. ²⁸ And it came to pass on the day when the LORD spake unto Moses in the land of Egypt, ²⁹ That the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, I am the LORD: speak thou unto Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say unto thee. ³⁰ And Moses said before the LORD, Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips, and how shall Pharaoh hearken unto me?

Exode 7

   ¹ And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet. ² Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land. ³ And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt. ⁴ But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. ⁵ And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them. ⁶ And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. ⁷ And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh.
   ⁸ And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, ⁹ When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent. ¹⁰ And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent. ¹¹ Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. ¹² For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up their rods. ¹³ And he hardened Pharaoh's heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
   ¹⁴ And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh's heart is hardened, he refuseth to let the people go. ¹⁵ Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river's brink against he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand. ¹⁶ And thou shalt say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear. ¹⁷ Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood. ¹⁸ And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall lothe to drink of the water of the river. ¹⁹ And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone. ²⁰ And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. ²¹ And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. ²² And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the LORD had said. ²³ And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he set his heart to this also. ²⁴ And all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river. ²⁵ And seven days were fulfilled, after that the LORD had smitten the river.

Exode 8

   ¹ And the LORD spake unto Moses, Go unto Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me. ² And if thou refuse to let them go, behold, I will smite all thy borders with frogs: ³ And the river shall bring forth frogs abundantly, which shall go up and come into thine house, and into thy bedchamber, and upon thy bed, and into the house of thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thine ovens, and into thy kneadingtroughs: ⁴ And the frogs shall come up both on thee, and upon thy people, and upon all thy servants. ⁵ And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch forth thine hand with thy rod over the streams, over the rivers, and over the ponds, and cause frogs to come up upon the land of Egypt. ⁶ And Aaron stretched out his hand over the waters of Egypt; and the frogs came up, and covered the land of Egypt. ⁷ And the magicians did so with their enchantments, and brought up frogs upon the land of Egypt. ⁸ Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, Intreat the LORD, that he may take away the frogs from me, and from my people; and I will let the people go, that they may do sacrifice unto the LORD. ⁹ And Moses said unto Pharaoh, Glory over me: when shall I intreat for thee, and for thy servants, and for thy people, to destroy the frogs from thee and thy houses, that they may remain in the river only? ¹⁰ And he said, To morrow. And he said, Be it according to thy word: that thou mayest know that there is none like unto the LORD our God. ¹¹ And the frogs shall depart from thee, and from thy houses, and from thy servants, and from thy people; they shall remain in the river only. ¹² And Moses and Aaron went out from Pharaoh: and Moses cried unto the LORD because of the frogs which he had brought against Pharaoh. ¹³ And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and the frogs died out of the houses, out of the villages, and out of the fields. ¹⁴ And they gathered them together upon heaps: and the land stank. ¹⁵ But when Pharaoh saw that there was respite, he hardened his heart, and hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
   ¹⁶ And the LORD said unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Stretch out thy rod, and smite the dust of the land, that it may become lice throughout all the land of Egypt. ¹⁷ And they did so; for Aaron stretched out his hand with his rod, and smote the dust of the earth, and it became lice in man, and in beast; all the dust of the land became lice throughout all the land of Egypt. ¹⁸ And the magicians did so with their enchantments to bring forth lice, but they could not: so there were lice upon man, and upon beast. ¹⁹ Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.
   ²⁰ And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh; lo, he cometh forth to the water; and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Let my people go, that they may serve me. ²¹ Else, if thou wilt not let my people go, behold, I will send swarms of flies upon thee, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people, and into thy houses: and the houses of the Egyptians shall be full of swarms of flies, and also the ground whereon they are. ²² And I will sever in that day the land of Goshen, in which my people dwell, that no swarms of flies shall be there; to the end thou mayest know that I am the LORD in the midst of the earth. ²³ And I will put a division between my people and thy people: to morrow shall this sign be. ²⁴ And the LORD did so; and there came a grievous swarm of flies into the house of Pharaoh, and into his servants' houses, and into all the land of Egypt: the land was corrupted by reason of the swarm of flies. ²⁵ And Pharaoh called for Moses and for Aaron, and said, Go ye, sacrifice to your God in the land. ²⁶ And Moses said, It is not meet so to do; for we shall sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God: lo, shall we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, and will they not stone us? ²⁷ We will go three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice to the LORD our God, as he shall command us. ²⁸ And Pharaoh said, I will let you go, that ye may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only ye shall not go very far away: intreat for me. ²⁹ And Moses said, Behold, I go out from thee, and I will intreat the LORD that the swarms of flies may depart from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people, to morrow: but let not Pharaoh deal deceitfully any more in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD. ³⁰ And Moses went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD. ³¹ And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; and he removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people; there remained not one. ³² And Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also, neither would he let the people go.
