   ¹ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Rends-toi vers Pharaon et parle-lui ainsi : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel, Dieu des Hébreux : Laisse aller mon peuple, et qu'il me serve ! ² Car, si tu refuses de le laisser aller et que tu le retiennes encore, ³ la main de l'Eternel va être sur ton bétail qui est dans les champs, sur les chevaux, sur les ânes, sur les chameaux, sur les boeufs et les moutons : ce sera une peste terrible. ⁴ Et l'Eternel fera une distinction entre le bétail d'Israël et le bétail des Egyptiens : il ne périra rien de ce qui appartient aux fils d'Israël. ⁵ Et l'Eternel fixa le moment en disant : Demain l'Eternel fera cela dans le pays. ⁶ Et l'Eternel fit cela dès le lendemain ; tout bétail des Egyptiens périt, mais des bestiaux des fils d'Israël il n'en périt pas un seul. ⁷ Et Pharaon envoya voir et il se trouva que des bestiaux des fils d'Israël il n'en avait pas même péri un seul. Et le coeur de Pharaon s'appesantit, et il ne laissa pas aller le peuple.
   ⁸ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse et à Aaron : Prenez plein vos mains de cendre de forge, et que Moïse jette cette cendre vers le ciel, sous les yeux de Pharaon. ⁹ Et qu'elle devienne une fine poussière sur tout le pays d'Egypte, et qu'elle forme sur les gens et sur les bêtes des tumeurs bourgeonnant en pustules, dans tout le pays d'Egypte. ¹⁰ Et ils, prirent la cendre de forge et se tinrent devant Pharaon, et Moïse la jeta vers le ciel. Et il y eut des tumeurs bourgeonnant en pustules sur les gens et sur les bêtes. ¹¹ Et les enchanteurs ne purent se tenir devant Moïse à cause des tumeurs, car les tumeurs étaient sur les enchanteurs et sur tous les Egyptiens. ¹² Et l'Eternel endurcit le coeur de Pharaon, et il ne les écouta point, selon que l'Eternel l'avait dit à Moïse.
   ¹³ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Va de bon matin te placer devant Pharaon et dis-lui : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel, Dieu des Hébreux : Laisse aller mon peuple, et qu'il me serve ! ¹⁴ Car cette fois-ci je déchaînerai tous mes fléaux contre ton coeur et sur tes serviteurs et sur ton peuple, afin que tu saches que nul n'est pareil à moi par toute la terre. ¹⁵ Que maintenant j'étende la main et que je te frappe de la peste, toi et ton peuple : tu seras effacé de la terre ! ¹⁶ Mais non ; voici pourquoi je te laisse subsister : c'est pour que tu fasses éclater ma puissance et que l'on célèbre mon nom par toute la terre. ¹⁷ Tu te mets encore comme une barrière devant mon peuple pour ne pas le laisser aller ! ¹⁸ Je vais demain, à cette heure même, faire tomber une grêle très forte, telle qu'il n'y en a pas eu en Egypte depuis qu'elle existe jusqu'à ce jour. ¹⁹ Maintenant fais mettre à l'abri ton bétail et tout ce que tu as aux champs. Tout ce qui, hommes ou bêtes, se trouvera aux champs et ne rentrera pas, sera frappé de la grêle et périra. ²⁰ Ceux des serviteurs de Pharaon qui craignirent la parole de l'Eternel firent retirer dans leurs maisons leurs serviteurs et leur bétail. ²¹ Et ceux qui ne firent pas attention à la parole de l'Eternel laissèrent leurs serviteurs et leur bétail dans les champs.
   ²² Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Etends ta main vers le ciel et qu'il grêle, dans tout le pays d'Egypte, sur les hommes, sur le bétail et sur toutes les plantes de la campagne, dans le pays d'Egypte. ²³ Et Moïse étendit son bâton vers le ciel et l'Eternel fit tonner et grêler et il tomba du feu sur la terre. L'Eternel fit tomber de la grêle sur le pays d'Egypte, ²⁴ et il y eut de la grêle et du feu mêlé à la grêle, et elle fut si forte qu'il n'y en avait jamais eu comme celle-là dans tout le pays d'Egypte depuis que la nation y existait. ²⁵ Et la grêle frappa dans tout le pays d'Egypte tout ce qui était aux champs, tant hommes que bestiaux. La grêle avait frappé toutes les plantes des champs ; ²⁶ il n'y avait que la terre de Gossen, qu'habitaient les fils d'Israël, où il n'y eût pas eu de grêle. ²⁷ Alors Pharaon fit appeler Moïse et Aaron et leur dit : Cette fois-ci, j'ai péché. C'est l'Eternel qui a raison, et moi et mon peuple qui avons tort ! ²⁸ Faites des prières à l'Eternel, et qu'il n'y ait plus de tonnerre et de grêle, et je vous laisserai aller, sans que vous ayez à attendre davantage. ²⁹ Et Moïse lui dit : En sortant de la ville, j'étendrai mes mains vers l'Eternel, et le tonnerre cessera, et il n'y aura plus de grêle, afin que tu saches que la terre est à l'Eternel. ³⁰ Quant à toi et à tes serviteurs, je sais que vous n'aurez pas encore de crainte devant l'Eternel Dieu. ³¹ Or le lin et l'orge avaient été frappés, car l'orge était en épis et le lin en fleurs ; ³² mais le froment et l'épeautre n'avaient pas été frappés, parce qu'ils sont tardifs. ³³ Et Moïse, quittant Pharaon, sortit de la ville et étendit ses mains vers l'Eternel, et le tonnerre et la grêle cessèrent et la pluie ne tomba plus. ³⁴ Et Pharaon vit que la pluie, la grêle et le tonnerre avaient cessé, et il recommença à pécher et il appesantit son coeur, tant lui que ses serviteurs. ³⁵ Et le coeur de Pharaon s'endurcit, et il ne laissa pas aller les fils d'Israël, selon que l'Eternel l'avait annoncé par Moïse.

Exode 10

   ¹ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Rends-toi vers Pharaon, car j'ai moi-même appesanti son coeur et le coeur de ses serviteurs, afin de faire au milieu d'eux les signes que tu vas voir, ² et afin que tu racontes à ton fils et au fils de ton fils mes exploits au milieu des Egyptiens et mes signes opérés au milieu d'eux, et que vous sachiez que je suis l'Eternel. ³ Et Moïse et Aaron se rendirent vers Pharaon et lui dirent : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel, Dieu des Hébreux : Jusques à quand refuseras-tu te t'humilier devant moi ? Laisse aller mon peuple, et qu'il me serve ! ⁴ Car, si tu refuses de laisser aller mon peuple, je vais demain faire venir les sauterelles dans tes Etats, ⁵ et elles couvriront la face de la terre et l'on ne pourra pas voir la terre ; elles dévoreront ce qui est demeuré de reste, ce qui vous a été laissé par la grêle, et elles dévoreront tous les arbres qui vous croissent dans les champs. ⁶ Et elles rempliront tes maisons, les maisons de tous tes serviteurs et les maisons de tous les Egyptiens, comme ne l'ont jamais vu tes pères, ni les pères de tes pères, depuis le temps où ils étaient sur la terre jusqu'à ce jour-ci. Et Moïse se retira et sortit de chez Pharaon. ⁷ Et les serviteurs de Pharaon lui dirent : Jusques à quand cet homme-là nous portera-t-il malheur ? Laisse aller ces gens et qu'ils servent l'Eternel leur Dieu. Ne vois-tu pas encore que l'Egypte est perdue ? ⁸ 0n fit revenir Moïse et Aaron auprès de Pharaon, et il leur dit : Allez, servez l'Eternel votre Dieu. Qui sont ceux qui iront ? ⁹ Et Moïse dit : Nous irons avec nos jeunes gens et nos vieillards, nous irons avec nos fils et nos filles, avec nos brebis et nos boeufs ; car nous avons une fête de l'Eternel. ¹⁰ Et Pharaon leur dit : Que l'Eternel soit avec vous aussi vrai que je vous laisserai aller avec vos petits enfants ! Voyez ! vous avez de mauvais desseins !
   ¹¹ Non, non ; allez, si vous voulez, vous autres hommes, et servez l'Eternel puisque c'est là ce que vous demandez.
Et on les chassa de devant Pharaon.
   ¹² Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Etends ta main sur le pays d'Egypte pour y faire venir les sauterelles : qu'elles montent sur le pays d'Egypte, qu'elles dévorent toutes les plantes du pays et tout ce qu'a laissé la grêle. ¹³ Et Moïse étendit son bâton sur le pays d'Egypte et l'Eternel fit souffler sur le pays un vent d'orient tout ce jour-là et toute la nuit. Quand le matin fut là, le vent d'orient avait apporté les sauterelles. ¹⁴ Et les sauterelles montèrent sur tout le pays d'Egypte et se posèrent sur tout le territoire de l'Egypte, en quantité si considérable que jamais il n'y avait eu auparavant une si grande quantité de sauterelles et que jamais il n'y en aura autant. ¹⁵ Et elles couvrirent la face de toute la terre et la terre en fut assombrie, et elles dévorèrent toutes les plantes du pays et tous les fruits d'arbres que la grêle avait épargnés, et il ne resta rien de vert aux arbres ni aux plantes des champs dans tout le pays d'Egypte. ¹⁶ Aussitôt Pharaon appela Moïse et Aaron et leur dit : J'ai péché contre l'Eternel votre Dieu et contre vous. ¹⁷ Maintenant pardonne, je te prie, mon péché, cette fois seulement, et faites des prières à l'Eternel et votre Dieu pour qu'il éloigne de moi au moins ce mortel fléau ! ¹⁸ Et Moïse sortit de chez Pharaon et adressa des prières à l'Eternel, ¹⁹ et l'Eternel fit lever un vent contraire, un vent d'occident très fort, qui emporta les sauterelles et les précipita dans, la mer Rouge. Il ne resta pas une sauterelle dans tout le territoire d'Egypte. ²⁰ Et l'Eternel endurcit le coeur de Pharaon, et il ne laissa pas aller les fils d'Israël.
   ²¹ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse : Etends ta main vers le ciel et qu'il y ait des ténèbres sur le pays d'Egypte et qu'on tâtonne dans les ténèbres ! ²² Et Moïse étendit la main vers le ciel et il y eut d'épaisses ténèbres dans tout le pays d'Egypte pendant trois jours. ²³ 0n ne se voyait plus les uns les autres, et nul ne se leva de la place où il était pendant trois jours. Mais tous les fils d'Israël avaient de la lumière dans les lieux qu'ils habitaient. ²⁴ Et Pharaon appela Moïse et lui dit : Allez, servez l'Eternel. On ne retiendra que vos brebis et vos boeufs ; vos petits enfants même iront avec vous. ²⁵ Et Moïse dit : Non seulement tu nous remettras de quoi faire des sacrifices et des holocaustes à l'Eternel notre Dieu, ²⁶ mais encore nos troupeaux viendront avec nous, sans qu'il en reste un ongle ! Car c'est d'eux que nous prendrons de quoi servir l'Eternel notre Dieu, et jusqu'à ce que nous soyons arrivés là, nous ne saurons pas nous-mêmes ce que nous offrirons à l'Eternel. ²⁷ Et l'Eternel endurcit le coeur de Pharaon, et il ne consentit pas à les laisser aller. ²⁸ Et Pharaon dit à Moïse : Eloigne-toi de moi, prends garde à toi, ne parais plus devant moi ! car le jour où tu paraîtras devant moi, tu mourras. ²⁹ Et Moïse dit : Tu l'as dit, je ne reparaîtrai plus devant toi.

Exode 11

   ¹ Et l'Eternel avait dit à Moïse : Je frapperai encore d'un coup Pharaon et l'Egypte : après cela il vous laissera partir d'ici. Quand il vous laissera partir tout à fait, il vous chassera même d'ici. ² Parle donc au peuple et dis-lui que chaque homme doit demander à son voisin et chaque femme à sa voisine des objets d'argent et des objets d'or. ³ Et l'Eternel fit trouver grâce au peuple aux yeux des Egyptiens, et Moïse était personnellement en très haute estime auprès des serviteurs de Pharaon et auprès du peuple.
   ⁴ Et Moïse dit : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel : Au milieu de la nuit je passerai au travers de l'Egypte, ⁵ et tout premier-né dans le pays d'Egypte mourra, depuis le premier-né de Pharaon sur son trône, jusqu'au premier-né de la servante qui est derrière la meule, et tout premier-né du bétail. ⁶ Et il s'élèvera un grand cri dans tout le pays d'Egypte, un cri tel qu'il n'y en a pas eu et tel qu'il n'y en aura pas. ⁷ Mais chez tous les fils d'Israël, personne, depuis les gens jusqu'aux bêtes, pas même un chien, ne remuera sa langue, afin que vous sachiez que l'Eternel distingue entre l'Egypte et Israël.
   ⁸ Et tous tes serviteurs que voilà descendront vers moi et se prosterneront devant moi, en disant : Sors, toi et tout le peuple à la tête duquel tu es. Après cela, je sortirai.
Et Moïse sortit de chez Pharaon en grande colère. ⁹ Et l'Eternel avait dit à Moïse : Pharaon ne vous écoutera pas, afin que mes signes soient en grand nombre dans le pays d'Egypte. ¹⁰ Et Moïse et Aaron firent tous ces signes-là devant Pharaon. Et l'Eternel endurcit le coeur de Pharaon, et il ne laissa point aller les fils d'Israël hors de son pays.

Exode 12

   ¹ Et l'Eternel parla à Moïse et à Aaron dans le pays d'Egypte, en ces termes : ² Que ce mois-ci soit pour vous le commencement des mois : il sera pour vous le premier des mois de l'année. ³ Parlez à toute l'assemblée d'Israël en ces termes : Le dix de ce mois, que chacun prenne un agneau par famille, un agneau par maison. ⁴ Et si la maison est trop peu nombreuse pour un agneau, qu'il le prenne en commun avec son plus proche voisin, en tenant compte du nombre des personnes : vous compterez chaque personne selon ce qu'elle peut manger de l'agneau. ⁵ Votre agneau doit être sans défaut, mâle, âgé d'un an ; vous prendrez soit un agneau, soit un chevreau. ⁶ Et vous le mettrez en réserve jusqu'au quatorze de ce mois ; la totalité de l'assemblée de la communauté d'Israël l'immolera dans la soirée. ⁷ Et l'on prendra de son sang et l'on en mettra sur les deux montants, et sur le linteau de la porte, dans les maisons où on le mangera. ⁸ Et l'on en mangera la chair cette nuit-là ; on la mangera rôtie au feu avec des pains sans levain et des herbes amères. ⁹ Vous n'en mangerez rien cru ou bouilli, mais tout sera rôti au feu, tête, jambes et entrailles. ¹⁰ Et vous n'en laisserez rien jusqu'au lendemain, et ce qui en sera resté jusqu'au lendemain, vous le brûlerez. ¹¹ Et c'est ainsi que vous le mangerez : les reins ceints, les sandales aux pieds et le bâton à la main, et vous le mangerez à la hâte. C'est la Pâque de l'Eternel. ¹² Et je traverserai le pays d'Egypte cette nuit-là et je frapperai tout premier-né dans le pays d'Egypte, des hommes, jusqu'aux bestiaux, et j'exécuterai des jugements sur tous les dieux de l'Egypte. Je suis l'Eternel. ¹³ Et le sang sera un signe sur les maisons où vous êtes : je verrai le sang et je passerai outre et il n'y aura pas de plaie sur vous pour vous détruire quand je frapperai le pays d'Egypte. ¹⁴ Et vous ferez commémoration de ce jour et vous le célébrerez comme une fête à l'Eternel, vous le célébrerez de génération en génération : c'est une institution à perpétuité. ¹⁵ Pendant sept jours vous mangerez des pains sans levain. Dès le premier jour, vous ferez disparaître de vos maisons le levain ; car toute personne qui mangera du pain levé, du premier jour au septième, sera retranchée d'Israël. ¹⁶ Et vous aurez une sainte assemblée le premier jour et une sainte assemblée le septième jour ; on ne fera aucune oeuvre pendant ces jours-là ; vous ne ferez que ce qui sera nécessaire à la nourriture de chacun. ¹⁷ Et vous observerez l'ordonnance des pains sans levain ; car c'est en ce même jour-là que j'ai fait sortir vos armées du pays d'Egypte, et vous observerez ce jour-là de génération en génération comme une institution perpétuelle. ¹⁸ Dans le premier mois, le quatorzième jour du mois, au soir, vous mangerez des pains sans levain, et cela jusqu'au vingt-et-unième jour du mois au soir. ¹⁹ Sept jours durant il ne doit pas se trouver de levain dans vos maisons, car toute personne qui mangera de quelque levain sera retranchée de l'assemblée d'Israël, qu'elle soit étrangère ou indigène. ²⁰ Vous ne mangerez d'aucun levain : dans tous les lieux où vous habiterez, vous mangerez des pains sans levain.
   ²¹ Et Moïse appela tous les Anciens d'Israël et leur dit : Choisissez et prenez du menu bétail pour vos familles et immolez la Pâque. ²² Puis vous prendrez un bouquet d'hysope et vous le tremperez dans le sang qui sera dans le bassin et vous toucherez le linteau et les deux poteaux des portes avec le sang qui sera dans le bassin, et aucun de vous ne sortira de sa maison jusqu'au matin. ²³ Et l'Eternel traversera l'Egypte pour la frapper, et quand il verra le sang sur le linteau et les deux poteaux de vos portes, il passera vos maisons et ne permettra pas au Destructeur d'y entrer pour frapper. ²⁴ Vous observerez ceci comme une institution pour vous et pour vos enfants, à perpétuité. ²⁵ Et lorsque vous serez entrés dans le pays que l'Eternel vous donnera comme il l'a promis, vous observerez ce rite, ²⁶ et quand vos enfants vous diront : Quelle signification ce rite a-t-il pour vous ?
   ²⁷ Vous répondrez : C'est un sacrifice de Pâque à l'Eternel, qui passa les maisons des fils d'Israël en Egypte lorsqu'il frappa l'Egypte et qu'il préserva nos maisons.
Le peuple s'inclina et se prosterna. ²⁸ Et les fils d'Israël allèrent et firent ainsi. Ils se conformèrent à tout ce que l'Eternel avait commandé à Moïse et à Aaron.
   ²⁹ Et à minuit, l'Eternel frappa tous les premiers-nés dans le pays d'Egypte, depuis le premier-né de Pharaon sur son trône jusqu'aux premiers-nés des captifs qui étaient dans les prisons, et les premiers-nés des bestiaux. ³⁰ Et Pharaon se leva dans la nuit, lui et tous ses serviteurs et toute l'Egypte, et il y eut un grand cri en Egypte, car il n'y avait pas de maison où il n'y eût un mort. ³¹ Et il appela Moïse et Aaron pendant la nuit et leur dit : Levez-vous, sortez du milieu de mon peuple, et vous et les fils d'Israël, et allez servir l'Eternel comme vous l'avez dit. ³² Prenez votre bétail, gros et petit, comme vous l'avez dit, et allez ; et vous, bénissez-moi ! ³³ Et les Egyptiens pressaient le peuple, se hâtant de le renvoyer du pays, car ils disaient : Nous sommes tous morts ! ³⁴ Et le peuple emporta sa pâte avant qu'elle fût levée, leurs maies serrées dans leurs manteaux, sur leurs épaules. ³⁵ Et les fils d'Israël avaient fait ce que leur avait dit Moïse : ils avaient demandé aux Egyptiens des objets d'argent, des objets d'or et des habits. ³⁶ Et l'Eternel leur avait concilié la faveur des Egyptiens, qui leur donnèrent ce qu'ils demandaient. Ils emportèrent donc les dépouilles de l'Egypte.
   ³⁷ Et les, fils d'Israël partirent de Ramsès pour Succoth, au nombre d'environ six cent mille piétons : les hommes, sans compter les enfants. ³⁸ Et ils avaient aussi avec eux une foule de gens de toute sorte et des brebis et des boeufs en troupeaux très considérables. ³⁹ Et ils cuisirent en galettes non levées la pâte qu'ils avaient emportée d'Egypte : car elle était sans levain parce qu'ils avaient été chassés d'Egypte et n'avaient pu tarder ; et ils n'avaient d'ailleurs pas pris de provisions. ⁴⁰ 0r le séjour que les fils d'Israël avaient fait en Egypte était de quatre cent trente ans. ⁴¹ Et au bout de quatre cent trente ans, en ce même jour-là, toutes les armées de l'Eternel sortirent du pays d'Egypte. ⁴² C'est là une nuit à célébrer à l'honneur de l'Eternel parce qu'il les a fait sortir de la terre d'Egypte. Cette nuit-là appartient à l'Eternel, pour être célébrée par tous les fils d'Israël de génération en génération.
   ⁴³ Et l'Eternel dit à Moïse et à Aaron : Voici la règle de la Pâque : Aucun étranger n'en mangera. ⁴⁴ Mais tout serviteur acquis à prix d'argent, tu le circonciras, et alors il en mangera. ⁴⁵ Ni domicilié, ni mercenaire n'en mangera. ⁴⁶ On mangera chaque agneau dans une seule maison : tu ne porteras rien de sa chair hors de la maison et vous ne romprez aucun de ses os. ⁴⁷ Toute l'assemblée d'Israël fera la Pâque. ⁴⁸ Quand un étranger séjournant avec toi voudra faire la Pâque à l'Eternel, que tout mâle chez lui soit circoncis, et alors il s'approchera pour faire la Pâque et sera comme l'indigène ; nul incirconcis n'en mangera ; ⁴⁹ il y aura une même loi pour l'indigène et pour l'étranger séjournant au milieu de vous. ⁵⁰ Tous les fils d'Israël firent ainsi. Ils se conformèrent à tout ce que l'Eternel avait commandé à Moïse et à Aaron. ⁵¹ Et il arriva que dans ce même jour l'Eternel fit sortir les fils d'Israël de la terre d'Egypte selon l'ordre de leurs armées.

   ¹ Then the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh, and tell him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me. ² For if thou refuse to let them go, and wilt hold them still, ³ Behold, the hand of the LORD is upon thy cattle which is in the field, upon the horses, upon the asses, upon the camels, upon the oxen, and upon the sheep: there shall be a very grievous murrain. ⁴ And the LORD shall sever between the cattle of Israel and the cattle of Egypt: and there shall nothing die of all that is the children's of Israel. ⁵ And the LORD appointed a set time, saying, To morrow the LORD shall do this thing in the land. ⁶ And the LORD did that thing on the morrow, and all the cattle of Egypt died: but of the cattle of the children of Israel died not one. ⁷ And Pharaoh sent, and, behold, there was not one of the cattle of the Israelites dead. And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, and he did not let the people go.
   ⁸ And the LORD said unto Moses and unto Aaron, Take to you handfuls of ashes of the furnace, and let Moses sprinkle it toward the heaven in the sight of Pharaoh. ⁹ And it shall become small dust in all the land of Egypt, and shall be a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast, throughout all the land of Egypt. ¹⁰ And they took ashes of the furnace, and stood before Pharaoh; and Moses sprinkled it up toward heaven; and it became a boil breaking forth with blains upon man, and upon beast. ¹¹ And the magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils; for the boil was upon the magicians, and upon all the Egyptians. ¹² And the LORD hardened the heart of Pharaoh, and he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had spoken unto Moses.
   ¹³ And the LORD said unto Moses, Rise up early in the morning, and stand before Pharaoh, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, Let my people go, that they may serve me. ¹⁴ For I will at this time send all my plagues upon thine heart, and upon thy servants, and upon thy people; that thou mayest know that there is none like me in all the earth. ¹⁵ For now I will stretch out my hand, that I may smite thee and thy people with pestilence; and thou shalt be cut off from the earth. ¹⁶ And in very deed for this cause have I raised thee up, for to shew in thee my power; and that my name may be declared throughout all the earth. ¹⁷ As yet exaltest thou thyself against my people, that thou wilt not let them go? ¹⁸ Behold, to morrow about this time I will cause it to rain a very grievous hail, such as hath not been in Egypt since the foundation thereof even until now. ¹⁹ Send therefore now, and gather thy cattle, and all that thou hast in the field; for upon every man and beast which shall be found in the field, and shall not be brought home, the hail shall come down upon them, and they shall die. ²⁰ He that feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his cattle flee into the houses: ²¹ And he that regarded not the word of the LORD left his servants and his cattle in the field.
   ²² And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch forth thine hand toward heaven, that there may be hail in all the land of Egypt, upon man, and upon beast, and upon every herb of the field, throughout the land of Egypt. ²³ And Moses stretched forth his rod toward heaven: and the LORD sent thunder and hail, and the fire ran along upon the ground; and the LORD rained hail upon the land of Egypt. ²⁴ So there was hail, and fire mingled with the hail, very grievous, such as there was none like it in all the land of Egypt since it became a nation. ²⁵ And the hail smote throughout all the land of Egypt all that was in the field, both man and beast; and the hail smote every herb of the field, and brake every tree of the field. ²⁶ Only in the land of Goshen, where the children of Israel were, was there no hail. ²⁷ And Pharaoh sent, and called for Moses and Aaron, and said unto them, I have sinned this time: the LORD is righteous, and I and my people are wicked. ²⁸ Intreat the LORD (for it is enough) that there be no more mighty thunderings and hail; and I will let you go, and ye shall stay no longer. ²⁹ And Moses said unto him, As soon as I am gone out of the city, I will spread abroad my hands unto the LORD; and the thunder shall cease, neither shall there be any more hail; that thou mayest know how that the earth is the LORD's. ³⁰ But as for thee and thy servants, I know that ye will not yet fear the LORD God. ³¹ And the flax and the barley was smitten: for the barley was in the ear, and the flax was bolled. ³² But the wheat and the rie were not smitten: for they were not grown up. ³³ And Moses went out of the city from Pharaoh, and spread abroad his hands unto the LORD: and the thunders and hail ceased, and the rain was not poured upon the earth. ³⁴ And when Pharaoh saw that the rain and the hail and the thunders were ceased, he sinned yet more, and hardened his heart, he and his servants. ³⁵ And the heart of Pharaoh was hardened, neither would he let the children of Israel go; as the LORD had spoken by Moses.

Exode 10

   ¹ And the LORD said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I might shew these my signs before him: ² And that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, what things I have wrought in Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know how that I am the LORD. ³ And Moses and Aaron came in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me. ⁴ Else, if thou refuse to let my people go, behold, to morrow will I bring the locusts into thy coast: ⁵ And they shall cover the face of the earth, that one cannot be able to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field: ⁶ And they shall fill thy houses, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; which neither thy fathers, nor thy fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned himself, and went out from Pharaoh. ⁷ And Pharaoh's servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed? ⁸ And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve the LORD your God: but who are they that shall go? ⁹ And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto the LORD. ¹⁰ And he said unto them, Let the LORD be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you. ¹¹ Not so: go now ye that are men, and serve the LORD; for that ye did desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.
   ¹² And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left. ¹³ And Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and the LORD brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all that night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts. ¹⁴ And the locust went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the coasts of Egypt: very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such. ¹⁵ For they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left: and there remained not any green thing in the trees, or in the herbs of the field, through all the land of Egypt. ¹⁶ Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said, I have sinned against the LORD your God, and against you. ¹⁷ Now therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and intreat the LORD your God, that he may take away from me this death only. ¹⁸ And he went out from Pharaoh, and intreated the LORD. ¹⁹ And the LORD turned a mighty strong west wind, which took away the locusts, and cast them into the Red sea; there remained not one locust in all the coasts of Egypt. ²⁰ But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go.
   ²¹ And the LORD said unto Moses, Stretch out thine hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt. ²² And Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days: ²³ They saw not one another, neither rose any from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings. ²⁴ And Pharaoh called unto Moses, and said, Go ye, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed: let your little ones also go with you. ²⁵ And Moses said, Thou must give us also sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice unto the LORD our God. ²⁶ Our cattle also shall go with us; there shall not an hoof be left behind; for thereof must we take to serve the LORD our God; and we know not with what we must serve the LORD, until we come thither. ²⁷ But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go. ²⁸ And Pharaoh said unto him, Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more; for in that day thou seest my face thou shalt die. ²⁹ And Moses said, Thou hast spoken well, I will see thy face again no more.

Exode 11

   ¹ And the LORD said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether. ² Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver and jewels of gold. ³ And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants, and in the sight of the people.
   ⁴ And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt: ⁵ And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the first born of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts. ⁶ And there shall be a great cry throughout all the land of Egypt, such as there was none like it, nor shall be like it any more. ⁷ But against any of the children of Israel shall not a dog move his tongue, against man or beast: that ye may know how that the LORD doth put a difference between the Egyptians and Israel. ⁸ And all these thy servants shall come down unto me, and bow down themselves unto me, saying, Get thee out, and all the people that follow thee: and after that I will go out. And he went out from Pharaoh in a great anger. ⁹ And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you; that my wonders may be multiplied in the land of Egypt. ¹⁰ And Moses and Aaron did all these wonders before Pharaoh: and the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, so that he would not let the children of Israel go out of his land.

Exode 12

   ¹ And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying, ² This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you. ³ Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house: ⁴ And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb. ⁵ Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: ⁶ And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. ⁷ And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. ⁸ And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. ⁹ Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. ¹⁰ And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire. ¹¹ And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD's passover. ¹² For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. ¹³ And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt. ¹⁴ And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever. ¹⁵ Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel. ¹⁶ And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation, and in the seventh day there shall be an holy convocation to you; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done of you. ¹⁷ And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day in your generations by an ordinance for ever. ¹⁸ In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even. ¹⁹ Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, even that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a stranger, or born in the land. ²⁰ Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.
   ²¹ Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out and take you a lamb according to your families, and kill the passover. ²² And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning. ²³ For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you. ²⁴ And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever. ²⁵ And it shall come to pass, when ye be come to the land which the LORD will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service. ²⁶ And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service? ²⁷ That ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of the LORD's passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped. ²⁸ And the children of Israel went away, and did as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.
   ²⁹ And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle. ³⁰ And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead. ³¹ And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, and get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as ye have said. ³² Also take your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also. ³³ And the Egyptians were urgent upon the people, that they might send them out of the land in haste; for they said, We be all dead men. ³⁴ And the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneadingtroughs being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders. ³⁵ And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they borrowed of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment: ³⁶ And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they lent unto them such things as they required. And they spoiled the Egyptians.
   ³⁷ And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, beside children. ³⁸ And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle. ³⁹ And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they brought forth out of Egypt, for it was not leavened; because they were thrust out of Egypt, and could not tarry, neither had they prepared for themselves any victual. ⁴⁰ Now the sojourning of the children of Israel, who dwelt in Egypt, was four hundred and thirty years. ⁴¹ And it came to pass at the end of the four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the LORD went out from the land of Egypt. ⁴² It is a night to be much observed unto the LORD for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of the LORD to be observed of all the children of Israel in their generations.
   ⁴³ And the LORD said unto Moses and Aaron, This is the ordinance of the passover: There shall no stranger eat thereof: ⁴⁴ But every man's servant that is bought for money, when thou hast circumcised him, then shall he eat thereof. ⁴⁵ A foreigner and an hired servant shall not eat thereof. ⁴⁶ In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof. ⁴⁷ All the congregation of Israel shall keep it. ⁴⁸ And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to the LORD, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: for no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof. ⁴⁹ One law shall be to him that is homeborn, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you. ⁵⁰ Thus did all the children of Israel; as the LORD commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they. ⁵¹ And it came to pass the selfsame day, that the LORD did bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt by their armies.
