DRB ⁶ Et Hamor, père de Sichem, vint vers Jacob pour parler avec lui.

KJV ⁶ And Hamor the father of Shechem went out unto Jacob to commune with him.

VULC ⁶ Egresso autem Hemor patre Sichem ut loqueretur ad Jacob,

WLC ⁶ וַיֵּצֵ֛א חֲמ֥וֹר אֲבִֽי־ שְׁכֶ֖ם אֶֽל־ יַעֲקֹ֑ב לְדַבֵּ֖ר אִתּֽוֹ׃

DRB ⁷ Et les fils de Jacob vinrent des champs lorsqu'ils apprirent [ce qui était arrivé], et ces hommes furent affligés, et ils furent très irrités, parce qu'on avait commis une infamie en Israël, en couchant avec la fille de Jacob, ce qui ne devait point se faire.

KJV ⁷ And the sons of Jacob came out of the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob's daughter: which thing ought not to be done.

VULC ⁷ ecce filii ejus veniebant de agro : auditoque quod acciderat, irati sunt valde, eo quod fœdam rem operatus esset in Israël et, violata filia Jacob, rem illicitam perpetrasset.

WLC ⁷ וּבְנֵ֨י יַעֲקֹ֜ב בָּ֤אוּ מִן־ הַשָּׂדֶה֙ כְּשָׁמְעָ֔ם וַיִּֽתְעַצְּבוּ֙ הָֽאֲנָשִׁ֔ים וַיִּ֥חַר לָהֶ֖ם מְאֹ֑ד כִּֽי־ נְבָלָ֞ה עָשָׂ֣ה בְיִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל לִשְׁכַּב֙ אֶת־ בַּֽת־ יַעֲקֹ֔ב וְכֵ֖ן לֹ֥א יֵעָשֶֽׂה׃

DRB ⁸ Et Hamor leur parla, disant : L'âme de Sichem, mon fils, s'est attachée à votre fille ; donnez-la-lui, je vous prie, pour femme ;

KJV ⁸ And Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longeth for your daughter: I pray you give her him to wife.

VULC ⁸ Locutus est itaque Hemor ad eos : Sichem filii mei adhæsit anima filiæ vestræ : date eam illi uxorem :

WLC ⁸ וַיְדַבֵּ֥ר חֲמ֖וֹר אִתָּ֣ם לֵאמֹ֑ר שְׁכֶ֣ם בְּנִ֗י חָֽשְׁקָ֤ה נַפְשׁוֹ֙ בְּבִתְּכֶ֔ם תְּנ֨וּ נָ֥א אֹתָ֛הּ ל֖וֹ לְאִשָּֽׁה׃

DRB ⁹ et alliez-vous avec nous : donnez-nous vos filles, et prenez nos filles pour vous,

KJV ⁹ And make ye marriages with us, and give your daughters unto us, and take our daughters unto you.

VULC ⁹ et jungamus vicissim connubia : filias vestras tradite nobis, et filias nostras accipite,

WLC ⁹ וְהִֽתְחַתְּנ֖וּ אֹתָ֑נוּ בְּנֹֽתֵיכֶם֙ תִּתְּנוּ־ לָ֔נוּ וְאֶת־ בְּנֹתֵ֖ינוּ תִּקְח֥וּ לָכֶֽם׃

DRB ¹⁰ et habitez avec nous, et le pays sera devant vous ; habitez-y et trafiquez, et ayez-y des possessions.

KJV ¹⁰ And ye shall dwell with us: and the land shall be before you; dwell and trade ye therein, and get you possessions therein.

VULC ¹⁰ et habitate nobiscum : terra in potestate vestra est : exercete, negotiamini, et possidete eam.

WLC ¹⁰ וְאִתָּ֖נוּ תֵּשֵׁ֑בוּ וְהָאָ֙רֶץ֙ תִּהְיֶ֣ה לִפְנֵיכֶ֔ם שְׁבוּ֙ וּסְחָר֔וּהָ וְהֵֽאָחֲז֖וּ בָּֽהּ׃

DRB ¹¹ Et Sichem dit au père et aux frères de Dina* : Que je trouve grâce à vos yeux, et ce que vous me direz je le donnerai.

KJV ¹¹ And Shechem said unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find grace in your eyes, and what ye shall say unto me I will give.

VULC ¹¹ Sed et Sichem ad patrem et ad fratres ejus ait : Inveniam gratiam coram vobis : et quæcumque statueritis, dabo :

WLC ¹¹ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר שְׁכֶם֙ אֶל־ אָבִ֣יה וְאֶל־ אַחֶ֔יהָ אֶמְצָא־ חֵ֖ן בְּעֵינֵיכֶ֑ם וַאֲשֶׁ֥ר תֹּאמְר֛וּ אֵלַ֖י אֶתֵּֽן׃

DRB ¹² Haussez beaucoup pour* moi la dot et le présent, et je donnerai selon que vous me direz ; et donnez-moi la jeune fille pour femme.

KJV ¹² Ask me never so much dowry and gift, and I will give according as ye shall say unto me: but give me the damsel to wife.

VULC ¹² augete dotem, et munera postulate, et libenter tribuam quod petieritis : tantum date mihi puellam hanc uxorem.

WLC ¹² הַרְבּ֨וּ עָלַ֤י מְאֹד֙ מֹ֣הַר וּמַתָּ֔ן וְאֶ֨תְּנָ֔ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֥ר תֹּאמְר֖וּ אֵלָ֑י וּתְנוּ־ לִ֥י אֶת־ הַֽנַּעֲרָ֖ לְאִשָּֽׁה׃

DRB ¹³ Et les fils de Jacob répondirent avec ruse à Sichem et à Hamor, son père et leur parlèrent (parce qu'il avait déshonoré Dina, leur sœur) ; et ils leur dirent :

KJV ¹³ And the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father deceitfully, and said, because he had defiled Dinah their sister:

VULC ¹³ Responderunt filii Jacob Sichem et patri ejus in dolo, sævientes ob stuprum sororis :

WLC ¹³ וַיַּעֲנ֨וּ בְנֵֽי־ יַעֲקֹ֜ב אֶת־ שְׁכֶ֨ם וְאֶת־ חֲמ֥וֹר אָבִ֛יו בְּמִרְמָ֖ה וַיְדַבֵּ֑רוּ אֲשֶׁ֣ר טִמֵּ֔א אֵ֖ת דִּינָ֥ה אֲחֹתָֽם׃

DRB ¹⁴ Nous ne pouvons point faire cela, de donner notre sœur à un homme incirconcis, car ce serait un opprobre pour nous ;

KJV ¹⁴ And they said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us:

VULC ¹⁴ Non possumus facere quod petitis, nec dare sororem nostram homini incircumciso : quod illicitum et nefarium est apud nos.

WLC ¹⁴ וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם לֹ֤א נוּכַל֙ לַעֲשׂוֹת֙ הַדָּבָ֣ר הַזֶּ֔ה לָתֵת֙ אֶת־ אֲחֹתֵ֔נוּ לְאִ֖ישׁ אֲשֶׁר־ ל֣וֹ עָרְלָ֑ה כִּֽי־ חֶרְפָּ֥ה הִ֖וא לָֽנוּ׃

DRB ¹⁵ nous nous accorderons avec vous seulement sous cette condition, que vous soyez comme nous en circoncisant tout mâle parmi vous ;

KJV ¹⁵ But in this will we consent unto you: If ye will be as we be, that every male of you be circumcised;

VULC ¹⁵ Sed in hoc valebimus fœderari, si volueritis esse similes nostri, et circumcidatur in vobis omne masculini sexus ;

WLC ¹⁵ אַךְ־ בְּזֹ֖את נֵא֣וֹת לָכֶ֑ם אִ֚ם תִּהְי֣וּ כָמֹ֔נוּ לְהִמֹּ֥ל לָכֶ֖ם כָּל־ זָכָֽר׃

DRB ¹⁶ alors nous vous donnerons nos filles, et nous prendrons vos filles, et nous habiterons avec vous ; et nous serons un seul peuple.

KJV ¹⁶ Then will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.

VULC ¹⁶ tunc dabimus et accipiemus mutuo filias vestras ac nostras : et habitabimus vobiscum, erimusque unus populus.

WLC ¹⁶ וְנָתַ֤נּוּ אֶת־ בְּנֹתֵ֙ינוּ֙ לָכֶ֔ם וְאֶת־ בְּנֹתֵיכֶ֖ם נִֽקַּֽח־ לָ֑נוּ וְיָשַׁ֣בְנוּ אִתְּכֶ֔ם וְהָיִ֖ינוּ לְעַ֥ם אֶחָֽד׃

DRB ¹⁷ Mais si vous ne nous écoutez pas, pour être circoncis, nous prendrons notre fille, et nous nous en irons.

KJV ¹⁷ But if ye will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised; then will we take our daughter, and we will be gone.

VULC ¹⁷ Si autem circumcidi nolueritis, tollemus filiam nostram, et recedemus.

WLC ¹⁷ וְאִם־ לֹ֧א תִשְׁמְע֛וּ אֵלֵ֖ינוּ לְהִמּ֑וֹל וְלָקַ֥חְנוּ אֶת־ בִּתֵּ֖נוּ וְהָלָֽכְנוּ׃
