BAN ¹ Il arriva dans ce temps-là que Juda descendit d'auprès de ses frères et arriva jusque près d'un homme d'Adullam nommé Hira.

KJV ¹ And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

KJV ⁴ And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.

BAN ⁵ Elle enfanta encore un fils, et elle le nomma Schéla. Et Juda était à Kézib quand elle l'enfanta.

KJV ⁵ And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.

VULC ⁵ Tertium quoque peperit : quem appellavit Sela ; quo nato, parere ultra cessavit.

BAN ⁶ Et Juda prit pour Er, son premier-né, une femme nommée Thamar.

KJV ⁶ And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.

VULC ⁶ Dedit autem Judas uxorem primogenito suo Her, nomine Thamar.

BAN ⁷ Et Er, premier-né de Juda, fut méchant aux yeux de l'Eternel, et l'Eternel le fit mourir.

KJV ⁷ And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.

VULC ⁷ Fuit quoque Her primogenitus Judæ nequam in conspectu Domini : et ab eo occisus est.

BAN ⁸ Et Juda dit à Onan : Va vers la femme de ton frère en ta qualité de beau-frère et suscite une postérité à ton frère.

KJV ⁸ And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

VULC ⁸ Dixit ergo Judas ad Onan filium suum : Ingredere ad uxorem fratris tui, et sociare illi, ut suscites semen fratri tuo.

BAN ⁹ Mais Onan savait que cette postérité ne serait pas à lui, et quand il allait vers la femme de son frère, il faisait en sorte de ne point donner de postérité à son frère.

KJV ⁹ And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

BAN ¹¹ Et Juda dit à Thamar, sa belle-fille : Demeure comme veuve dans la maison de ton père jusqu'à ce que Schéla, mon fils, soit devenu grand. Car il disait : Il ne faut pas qu'il meure, lui aussi, comme ses frères. Et Thamar s'en alla et demeura dans la maison de son père.

KJV ¹¹ Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.
