KJV ¹ And it came to pass at that time, that Judah went down from his brethren, and turned in to a certain Adullamite, whose name was Hirah.

KJV ² And Judah saw there a daughter of a certain Canaanite, whose name was Shuah; and he took her, and went in unto her.

MAR ² Et Juda y vit la fille d'un Cananéen, nommé Suah, et il la prit, et vint vers elle.

WLC ² וַיַּרְא־ שָׁ֧ם יְהוּדָ֛ה בַּת־ אִ֥ישׁ כְּנַעֲנִ֖י וּשְׁמ֣וֹ שׁ֑וּעַ וַיִּקָּחֶ֖הָ וַיָּבֹ֥א אֵלֶֽיהָ׃

KJV ³ And she conceived, and bare a son; and he called his name Er.

MAR ³ Et elle conçut et enfanta un fils, et on le nomma Her.

WLC ³ וַתַּ֖הַר וַתֵּ֣לֶד בֵּ֑ן וַיִּקְרָ֥א אֶת־ שְׁמ֖וֹ עֵֽר׃

KJV ⁴ And she conceived again, and bare a son; and she called his name Onan.

MAR ⁴ Et elle conçut encore et enfanta un fils, et elle le nomma Onan.

WLC ⁴ וַתַּ֥הַר ע֖וֹד וַתֵּ֣לֶד בֵּ֑ן וַתִּקְרָ֥א אֶת־ שְׁמ֖וֹ אוֹנָֽן׃

KJV ⁵ And she yet again conceived, and bare a son; and called his name Shelah: and he was at Chezib, when she bare him.

MAR ⁵ Elle enfanta encore un fils, et elle le nomma Séla. Et [Juda] était en Késib quand elle accoucha de celui-ci.

WLC ⁵ וַתֹּ֤סֶף עוֹד֙ וַתֵּ֣לֶד בֵּ֔ן וַתִּקְרָ֥א אֶת־ שְׁמ֖וֹ שֵׁלָ֑ה וְהָיָ֥ה בִכְזִ֖יב בְּלִדְתָּ֥הּ אֹתֽוֹ׃

KJV ⁶ And Judah took a wife for Er his firstborn, whose name was Tamar.

MAR ⁶ Et Juda maria Her, son premier-né, avec une fille qui avait nom Tamar.

WLC ⁶ וַיִּקַּ֧ח יְהוּדָ֛ה אִשָּׁ֖ה לְעֵ֣ר בְּכוֹר֑וֹ וּשְׁמָ֖הּ תָּמָֽר׃

KJV ⁷ And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the LORD; and the LORD slew him.

MAR ⁷ Mais Her le premier-né de Juda était méchant devant l'Eternel, et l'Eternel le fit mourir.

WLC ⁷ וַיְהִ֗י עֵ֚ר בְּכ֣וֹר יְהוּדָ֔ה רַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיְמִתֵ֖הוּ יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ⁸ And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

MAR ⁸ Alors Juda dit à Onan : Viens vers la femme de ton frère, et prends-la pour femme, [comme étant son beau-frère], et suscite des enfants à ton frère.

WLC ⁸ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוּדָה֙ לְאוֹנָ֔ן בֹּ֛א אֶל־ אֵ֥שֶׁת אָחִ֖יךָ וְיַבֵּ֣ם אֹתָ֑הּ וְהָקֵ֥ם זֶ֖רַע לְאָחִֽיךָ׃

KJV ⁹ And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

MAR ⁹ Mais Onan sachant que les enfants ne seraient pas à lui, se corrompait contre terre toutes les fois qu'il venait vers la femme de son frère, afin qu'il ne donnât pas des enfants à son frère.

WLC ⁹ וַיֵּ֣דַע אוֹנָ֔ן כִּ֛י לֹּ֥א ל֖וֹ יִהְיֶ֣ה הַזָּ֑רַע וְהָיָ֞ה אִם־ בָּ֨א אֶל־ אֵ֤שֶׁת אָחִיו֙ וְשִׁחֵ֣ת אַ֔רְצָה לְבִלְתִּ֥י נְתָן־ זֶ֖רַע לְאָחִֽיו׃

KJV ¹⁰ And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.

MAR ¹⁰ Et ce qu'il faisait déplut à l'Eternel, c'est pourquoi il le fit aussi mourir.

WLC ¹⁰ וַיֵּ֛רַע בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֑ה וַיָּ֖מֶת גַּם־ אֹתֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹¹ Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.

MAR ¹¹ Et Juda dit à Tamar sa belle-fille : Demeure veuve en la maison de ton père, jusqu'à ce que Séla mon fils soit grand ; car il dit : Il faut prendre garde qu'il ne meure comme ses frères. Ainsi Tamar s'en alla, et demeura en la maison de son père.

WLC ¹¹ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוּדָה֩ לְתָמָ֨ר כַּלָּת֜וֹ שְׁבִ֧י אַלְמָנָ֣ה בֵית־ אָבִ֗יךְ עַד־ יִגְדַּל֙ שֵׁלָ֣ה בְנִ֔י כִּ֣י אָמַ֔ר פֶּן־ יָמ֥וּת גַּם־ ה֖וּא כְּאֶחָ֑יו וַתֵּ֣לֶךְ תָּמָ֔ר וַתֵּ֖שֶׁב בֵּ֥ית אָבִֽיהָ׃
