KJV ¹ The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkiah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:

BAN ² La parole de l'Eternel lui fut adressée au temps de Josias, fils d'Amon, roi de Juda, la treizième année de son règne ;

KJV ² To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

BAN ³ puis au temps de Jéhojakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu'à la fin de la onzième année de Sédécias, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu'à la déportation de Jérusalem au cinquième mois.

KJV ³ It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

BAN ⁴ La parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée en ces mots :

KJV ⁴ Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

BAN ⁵ Avant de te former dans les flancs de ta mère, je te connaissais ; et avant que tu sortisses de son sein, je t'ai consacré, je t'ai établi prophète des nations.

KJV ⁵ Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

BAN ⁶ Et je dis : Ah ! Seigneur Eternel, voici, je ne sais point parler, car je suis un enfant.

KJV ⁶ Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

BAN ⁷ Et l'Eternel me répondit : Ne dis pas : Je suis un enfant ! car tu iras vers tous ceux à qui je t'enverrai, et tu diras tout ce que je t'ordonnerai.

KJV ⁷ But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

BAN ⁸ Sois sans peur devant eux, car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer, dit l'Eternel.

KJV ⁸ Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

BAN ⁹ Puis l'Eternel avança la main, et toucha ma bouche, et l'Eternel me dit : Voici, je mets mes paroles dans ta bouche ;

KJV ⁹ Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

BAN ¹⁰ vois, je t'établis en ce jour sur les nations et sur les royaumes, pour arracher et pour abattre, pour ruiner et pour détruire, pour bâtir et pour planter.

KJV ¹⁰ See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

BAN ¹¹ Et la parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée en ces mots : Que vois-tu, Jérémie ? Et je répondis : Je vois une branche d'amandier.

KJV ¹¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.

BAN ¹² Et l'Eternel me dit : Tu as bien vu, car je veille sur ma parole pour l'accomplir.

KJV ¹² Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

BAN ¹³ Et la parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée pour la seconde fois en ces mots : Que vois-tu ? Et je répondis : Je vois une chaudière qui bout, et elle est du côté du septentrion.

KJV ¹³ And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.

BAN ¹⁴ Et l'Eternel me dit : C'est du septentrion que le malheur éclatera sur tous les habitants du pays.

KJV ¹⁴ Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

BAN ¹⁵ Car je vais appeler toutes les familles des royaumes du septentrion, dit l'Eternel, et elles viendront et placeront chacune leur siège à l'entrée des portes de Jérusalem et contre toutes ses murailles à l'entour et contre toutes les villes de Juda.

KJV ¹⁵ For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

BAN ¹⁶ Et je prononcerai mes sentences contre eux pour toute leur méchanceté, parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné et ont encensé d'autres dieux et adoré l'ouvrage de leurs mains.

KJV ¹⁶ And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

BAN ¹⁷ Et toi, ceins tes reins et lève-toi, et dis-leur tout ce que je t'ordonnerai ; ne t'abats pas à cause d'eux, de peur que je ne t'abatte devant eux ;

KJV ¹⁷ Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.

BAN ¹⁸ et voici, moi je t'établis en ce jour comme une ville forte et une colonne de fer et une muraille d'airain contre tout le pays, contre les rois du pays de Juda, contre ses princes, contre ses sacrificateurs et contre le peuple.

KJV ¹⁸ For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

BAN ¹⁹ Et ils te feront la guerre, mais ils ne te pourront rien ; car je suis avec toi, dit l'Eternel, pour te délivrer.

KJV ¹⁹ And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.

BAN ¹ Et la parole de l'Eternel me fut adressée en ces mots :

KJV ¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

BAN ² Va, et crie aux oreilles de Jérusalem ces paroles : Ainsi a dit l'Eternel : Je me suis souvenu de la piété de ta jeunesse, de ton amour au temps de tes fiançailles, alors que tu me suivais au désert, au pays qu'on n'ensemence pas.

KJV ² Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

BAN ³ Israël était consacré à l'Eternel ; c'étaient les prémices de son revenu ; quiconque en mangeait se rendait coupable ; le malheur fondait sur lui, dit l'Eternel.

KJV ³ Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.

BAN ⁴ Ecoutez la parole de l'Eternel, maison de Jacob, et vous, toutes les familles de la maison d'Israël.

KJV ⁴ Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:

BAN ⁵ Ainsi a dit l'Eternel : Qu'est-ce que vos pères ont trouvé d'injuste en moi, pour s'éloigner de moi, suivre la vanité et devenir eux-mêmes vanité ?

KJV ⁵ Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?

BAN ⁶ Ils n'ont pas dit : Où est l'Eternel, qui nous a fait monter du pays d'Egypte, qui nous a guidés dans le désert, dans le pays aride et crevassé, dans le pays de sécheresse et d'ombre de mort, dans le pays où il ne passe pas d'hommes et où personne n'habite ?

KJV ⁶ Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?

BAN ⁷ Et je vous ai fait venir au pays des vergers, pour en manger les fruits et les biens ; et vous êtes venus, et vous avez souillé mon pays et fait de mon héritage une abomination.

KJV ⁷ And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.

BAN ⁸ Les sacrificateurs n'ont pas dit : Où est l'Eternel ? et les dépositaires de la Loi ne m'ont pas connu, et les pasteurs ont rompu avec moi, et les prophètes ont prophétisé par Baal ; et ils ont suivi ceux qui ne sont d'aucun secours.

KJV ⁸ The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.

BAN ⁹ Aussi vais-je encore plaider contre vous, dit l'Eternel, et contre les fils de vos fils.

KJV ⁹ Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead.

BAN ¹⁰ Passez donc aux îles de Kittim et regardez ; envoyez à Kédar et observez bien, et voyez s'il s'y passe rien de semblable :

KJV ¹⁰ For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.

BAN ¹¹ une nation change-t-elle de dieux ? et encore ces dieux n'en sont-ils pas ! Mais mon peuple change sa gloire contre ce qui ne sert à rien.

KJV ¹¹ Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.

BAN ¹² Cieux, étonnez-vous en, frémissez et soyez stupéfaits, dit l'Eternel ;

KJV ¹² Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.

BAN ¹³ car mon peuple a fait double mal : ils m'ont abandonné, moi, la source des eaux vives, pour se creuser des citernes, des citernes crevassées qui ne retiennent pas l'eau.

KJV ¹³ For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

BAN ¹⁴ Israël est-il un esclave, un serf né dans la maison ? pourquoi est-il traité comme un butin ?

KJV ¹⁴ Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?

BAN ¹⁵ Les lionceaux rugissent contre lui, poussent leur cri et mettent son pays en désolation ; ses villes sont incendiées et il n'y a plus d'habitants !

KJV ¹⁵ The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.

BAN ¹⁶ Même les fils de Noph et de Tachpanès te brouteront le crâne.

KJV ¹⁶ Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.

BAN ¹⁷ D'où te vient cela, sinon de ce que tu as abandonné l'Eternel ton Dieu au temps où il te faisait marcher dans la voie ?

KJV ¹⁷ Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?

BAN ¹⁸ Et maintenant, qu'as-tu à faire sur la route d'Egypte pour aller boire l'eau du Nil ; et qu'as-tu à faire sur la route d'Assyrie pour aller boire l'eau du fleuve ?

KJV ¹⁸ And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?

BAN ¹⁹ Que ta méchanceté te redresse et que tes rébellions te châtient, et sache et vois combien il est mauvais et amer d'avoir abandonné l'Eternel ton Dieu, et de n'avoir pas eu crainte de moi, dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel des armées.

KJV ¹⁹ Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

BAN ²⁰ Car dès longtemps tu as brisé ton joug, rompu tes liens et dit : Je ne servirai pas !
Car sur toute colline élevée et sous tout arbre vert tu t'es étendue comme une courtisane.

KJV ²⁰ For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.

BAN ²¹ Et moi, je t'avais plantée comme une vigne excellente, tout entière d'une souche franche. Comment t'es-tu changée pour moi en sarments bâtards d'une vigne étrangère ?

KJV ²¹ Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?

BAN ²² Oui, quand tu te laverais à la soude et que tu emploierais beaucoup de potasse, ton péché ferait tache devant moi, dit le Seigneur, l'Eternel.

KJV ²² For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.

BAN ²³ Comment dis-tu : Je ne me suis point souillée ; les Baals, je ne les ai pas suivis ?
Vois tes traces dans la vallée ; reconnais ce que tu as fait, chamelle légère, croisant tes pas en tous sens !

KJV ²³ How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

BAN ²⁴ Onagre habituée au désert..., dans l'ardeur de sa passion, elle aspire l'air ; ses instincts... qui les arrêtera ? Nul de ceux qui la recherchent ne se fatigue ; ils la trouvent en son mois.

KJV ²⁴ A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

BAN ²⁵ Prends garde que ton pied ne se déchausse et que ton gosier ne se dessèche ! Mais tu réponds : Inutile ! Non ! Car j'aime les étrangers et je les suivrai.

KJV ²⁵ Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

BAN ²⁶ Telle la honte du voleur pris sur le fait, ainsi ont été confondus la maison d'Israël, leurs rois, leurs chefs, leurs sacrificateurs et leurs prophètes,

KJV ²⁶ As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets.

BAN ²⁷ qui disent au bois : Tu es mon père ; et à la pierre : Tu m'as mis au monde.
Car ils m'ont tourné le dos et non la face, et au temps de leur malheur ils diront : Lève-toi et sauve-nous !

KJV ²⁷ Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.

BAN ²⁸ Et où sont les dieux que tu t'es faits ? Qu'ils se lèvent, s'ils peuvent te délivrer au temps de ton malheur ; car autant tu as de villes, autant tu as de dieux, ô Juda !

KJV ²⁸ But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.

BAN ²⁹ Pourquoi plaidez-vous contre moi ? Vous vous êtes tous rebellés contre moi, dit l'Eternel.

KJV ²⁹ Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the LORD.

BAN ³⁰ C'est en vain que j'ai frappé vos fils, ils n'en ont pas pris instruction ; votre épée a dévoré vos prophètes comme un lion destructeur.

KJV ³⁰ In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

BAN ³¹ Quelle race que la vôtre ! Voyez ce que dit l'Eternel : Ai-je été pour Israël un désert, un pays de noires ténèbres ? Pourquoi mon peuple a-t-il dit : Nous sommes libres ; nous ne reviendrons plus à toi !

KJV ³¹ O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?

BAN ³² Une vierge oublie-t-elle sa parure, une fiancée sa ceinture ? Et mon peuple m'a oublié depuis des jours sans nombre.

KJV ³² Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.

BAN ³³ Que tu sais bien trouver ta route pour courir après des amours ! Tu n'as pas même reculé devant le crime.

KJV ³³ Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.

BAN ³⁴ Jusque sur les pans de tes vêtements, on aperçoit le sang de pauvres innocents que tu n'avais point surpris en délit d'effraction, mais que tu as tués pour toutes ces choses...

KJV ³⁴ Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.

BAN ³⁵ Et tu dis : Je suis innocente ; sa colère s'est bien détournée de moi.
Me voici pour te faire le procès sur ce que tu dis : Je n'ai pas péché !

KJV ³⁵ Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.

BAN ³⁶ Pourquoi tant de hâte à changer ta route ? Tu seras rendue confuse par l'Egypte aussi bien que tu l'as été par l'Assyrie ;

KJV ³⁶ Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.

BAN ³⁷ tu reviendras de là aussi les mains sur la tête, car l'Eternel a rejeté ceux en qui tu mettais ta confiance, et tu ne réussiras point par leur moyen.

KJV ³⁷ Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.

BAN ¹ Il est dit : Quand un homme répudie sa femme, et qu'après l'avoir quitté, elle devient la femme d'un autre, retournera-t-il encore vers elle ? Ce pays n'en serait-il point profané ? Et toi, tu t'es livrée à beaucoup d'amants, et tu reviendrais vers moi ! dit l'Eternel.

KJV ¹ They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.

BAN ² Lève les yeux vers les hauteurs nues et regarde : où n'as-tu pas été souillée ? Tu les attendais sur les routes, pareille à l'Arabe dans le désert, et tu as profané le pays par tes prostitutions et par ta méchanceté.

KJV ² Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness.

BAN ³ Les grandes pluies ont été retenues, les pluies du printemps ont manqué ; mais tu as eu un front de courtisane, tu as refusé de rougir.

KJV ³ Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain; and thou hadst a whore's forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed.

BAN ⁴ Et maintenant, n'est-ce pas ? tu me dis : Mon père, tu es l'ami de ma jeunesse ! Sera-t-il toujours irrité ? Demandes-tu.

KJV ⁴ Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art the guide of my youth?

BAN ⁵ Gardera-t-il à jamais sa colère ? Voilà ce que tu dis, et tu commets les crimes et les achèves.

KJV ⁵ Will he reserve his anger for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldest.

BAN ⁶ Et l'Eternel me dit aux jours du roi Josias : As-tu vu ce qu'a fait Israël l'infidèle ? Elle est allée sur toute montagne élevée et sous tout arbre vert, et s'y est prostituée.

KJV ⁶ The LORD said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.

BAN ⁷ Et je disais : Après avoir fait toutes ces choses, elle reviendra à moi ; mais elle n'est pas revenue, et sa soeur, Juda la perfide, l'a vu.

KJV ⁷ And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

BAN ⁸ A cause de tous les adultères d'Israël l'infidèle, je l'avais répudiée et lui avais donné sa lettre de divorce ; mais j'ai vu que sa soeur, Juda la perfide, n'a pas eu de crainte ; elle est partie et s'est prostituée, elle aussi.

KJV ⁸ And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

BAN ⁹ Par la clameur de ses prostitutions le pays avait été profané, et elle avait commis l'impureté avec le bois et la pierre ;

KJV ⁹ And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.

BAN ¹⁰ mais pour tout cela, sa soeur, Juda la perfide, n'est pas revenue à moi de tout soit coeur, mais avec mensonge, dit l'Eternel.

KJV ¹⁰ And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD.

BAN ¹¹ Et l'Eternel me dit : Israël l'infidèle s'est montrée juste au prix de Juda la perfide.

KJV ¹¹ And the LORD said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.

BAN ¹² Va, et crie ces paroles du côté du nord, et dis : Reviens, infidèle Israël, dit l'Eternel ; je n'assombrirai pas pour vous mon visage, car je suis clément, dit l'Eternel, et je ne garde point à toujours ma colère.

KJV ¹² Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever.

BAN ¹³ Seulement reconnais ta faute ; car tu t'es détachée de l'Eternel ton Dieu, et tu as prodigué tes pas vers les étrangers sous tout, arbre vert, et vous n'avez point écouté ma voix, dit l'Eternel.

KJV ¹³ Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD.

BAN ¹⁴ Revenez, fils infidèles, dit l'Eternel, car je suis votre maître, et je vous prendrai, un d'une ville et deux d'une famille, et vous amènerai dans Sion ;

KJV ¹⁴ Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

BAN ¹⁵ et je vous donnerai des pasteurs selon mon coeur, qui vous paîtront avec intelligence et sagesse.

KJV ¹⁵ And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

BAN ¹⁶ Et quand vous aurez multiplié et fructifié dans le pays, il arrivera en ces jours-là, dit l'Eternel, qu'on ne dira plus : L'arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel !
Elle ne reviendra plus au coeur ; on ne s'en souviendra plus ; on ne la regrettera plus, et on n'en fera pas une autre.

KJV ¹⁶ And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.

BAN ¹⁷ En ce temps-là, on appellera Jérusalem le trône de l'Eternel, et toutes les nations s'y assembleront, à cause du nom de l'Eternel en Jérusalem, et elles ne suivront plus l'obstination de leur mauvais coeur.

KJV ¹⁷ At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.

BAN ¹⁸ En ces jours-là, la maison de Juda marchera avec la maison d'Israël, et elles viendront ensemble du pays du nord au pays que j'ai fait hériter à vos pères.

KJV ¹⁸ In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.

BAN ²³ Oui, c'est en vain que vient des hauteurs le tumulte des fêtes sur les montagnes. Oui, c'est en l'Eternel notre Dieu qu'est le salut d'Israël.

KJV ²³ Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.

BAN ²⁴ L'infamie a dévoré dès notre jeunesse le bien gagné par nos pères, leurs brebis et leurs boeufs, leurs fils et leurs filles.

KJV ²⁴ For shame hath devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.

KJV ⁵ I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

BAN ¹⁰ Escaladez ses murs et détruisez, mais n'achevez pas ; enlevez ses sarments, car ils ne sont pas à l'Eternel ;

KJV ¹⁰ Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD's.

BAN ¹¹ car la maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda m'ont trahi, dit l'Eternel ;

KJV ¹¹ For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.

BAN ¹² ils ont renié l'Eternel et dit : Il n'est pas, et le malheur n'arrivera pas jusqu'à nous ; nous ne verrons ni l'épée, ni la famine ;

KJV ¹² They have belied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:

BAN ¹³ les prophètes sont du vent, et personne n'a parlé en eux. Ainsi leur soit fait à eux-mêmes !

KJV ¹³ And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.

BAN ¹⁴ C'est pourquoi, ainsi parle l'Eternel, le Dieu des armées : Parce que vous dites ces paroles-là, voici je fais de mes paroles dans ta bouche un feu, et de ce peuple du bois, et ce feu les dévore.

KJV ¹⁴ Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

KJV ¹⁵ Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.

KJV ¹⁶ Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men.

BAN ¹⁷ Et elle dévorera ta moisson et ton pain ; ils dévoreront tes fils et tes filles ; elle dévorera tes brebis et tes boeufs ; elle dévorera ta vigne et ton figuier ; elle détruira tes villes fortes dans lesquelles tu te confies, par l'épée.

KJV ¹⁷ And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.

BAN ¹⁹ Et quand vous direz : Pour quelle raison l'Eternel nous a-t-il fait tout cela ? tu leur diras : Comme vous m'avez abandonné, et avez servi dans votre pays des dieux étrangers, ainsi vous servirez des étrangers dans un pays qui n'est pas à vous.

KJV ¹⁹ And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not your's.

KJV ²² Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?

BAN ²³ mais ce peuple a un coeur indocile et rebelle ; ils se retirent et s'en vont ;

KJV ²³ But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.

BAN ²⁴ et ils ne disent pas dans leur coeur : Craignons donc l'Eternel notre Dieu, lui qui donne les pluies, la pluie de la première saison et la pluie de l'arrière-saison, en leur temps ; qui nous maintient les semaines destinées à la moisson.

KJV ²⁴ Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.

KJV ²⁶ For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.

BAN ²⁷ Comme une cage est pleine d'oiseaux, ainsi leurs maisons sont pleines de fraude ; c'est ainsi qu'ils croissent et s'enrichissent.

KJV ²⁷ As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.

BAN ²⁸ Ils s'engraissent, ils reluisent, ils dépassent même la mesure du mal ; ils ne font pas justice, justice à l'orphelin, et ils prospèrent ; ils ne font pas droit à la cause des malheureux.

KJV ²⁸ They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.

KJV ²⁹ Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

BAN ³⁰ Il se fait dans le pays des abominations et des horreurs.

KJV ³⁰ A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;

BAN ³¹ Les prophètes prophétisent en mentant ; les sacrificateurs gouvernent au gré des prophètes, et mon peuple l'aime ainsi. Et que ferez-vous au terme de tout cela ?

KJV ³¹ The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
