BCC ² La parole de Jéhovah lui fut adressée au temps de Josias, fils d'Amon, roi de Juda, la treizième année de son règne ;

KJV ² To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

BCC ³ puis au temps de Joakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu'à la fin de la onzième année de Sédécias, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu'à la déportation de Jérusalem au cinquième mois.

KJV ³ It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

BCC ⁴ La parole de Jéhovah me fut ainsi adressée :

KJV ⁴ Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

BCC ⁵ "Avant de te former dans le sein de ta mère, je te connaissais, et avant que tu sortisses de ses flancs, je t'ai consacré ; Je t'ai établi prophète des nations."

KJV ⁵ Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

BCC ⁶ Et je dis : "Ah ! Seigneur Jéhovah, je ne sais point parler, car je suis un enfant !"

KJV ⁶ Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

BCC ⁷ Et Jéhovah me répondit : "ne dis pas : Je suis un enfant, car tu iras vers tous ceux à qui je t'enverrai, et tu diras tout ce que je t'ordonnerai.

KJV ⁷ But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

BCC ⁸ Sois sans crainte devant eux, car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer," dit Jéhovah.

KJV ⁸ Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

BCC ⁹ Puis Jéhovah étendit sa main et toucha ma bouche, et Jéhovah me dit : "Voici que je mets mes paroles dans ta bouche ;

KJV ⁹ Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

BCC ¹⁰ Vois, je t'établis en ce jour sur les nations et sur les royaumes, pour arracher et pour abattre, pour ruiner et pour détruire, pour bâtir et pour planter.

KJV ¹⁰ See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

BCC ¹¹ Et la parole de Jéhovah me fut ainsi adressée : "que vois-tu, Jérémie ?" Je répondis : "Je vois une branche d'amandier."

KJV ¹¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.

BCC ¹² Et Jéhovah me dit : "Tu as bien vu, car je veille sur ma parole pour l'accomplir."

KJV ¹² Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

BCC ¹³ La parole de Jéhovah me fut pour la seconde fois adressée ainsi : "Que vois-tu ?" Je répondis : "Je vois une chaudière qui bout, et elle est du côté du septentrion."

KJV ¹³ And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.

BCC ¹⁴ Et Jéhovah me dit : "c'est du septentrion que le malheur se répandra sur tous les habitants du pays.

KJV ¹⁴ Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

BCC ¹⁵ Car je vais appeler toutes les familles des royaumes du septentrion, dit Jéhovah, et elles viendront et placeront chacune leur siège à l'entrée des portes de Jérusalem, contre toutes ses murailles à l'entour et contre toutes les villes de Juda.

KJV ¹⁵ For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

BCC ¹⁶ Et je prononcerai mes sentences contre eux pour toute leur méchanceté, parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné, qu'ils ont offert de l'encens à d'autres dieux et ont adoré l'ouvrage de leurs mains.

KJV ¹⁶ And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

BCC ¹⁷ Et toi, ceins tes reins, lève-toi, et dis-leur tout ce que je t'ordonnerai. Ne te laisse pas abattre à cause d'eux, de peur que je ne t'abatte devant eux.

KJV ¹⁷ Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.

BCC ¹⁸ Voici que je t'établis en ce jour comme une ville forte, une colonne de fer et une muraille d'airain, contre tout le pays, contre les rois de Juda, contre ses princes, contre ses prêtres et contre le peuple.

KJV ¹⁸ For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

BCC ¹⁹ Ils te feront la guerre, mais ils ne pourront rien sur toi, car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer, dit Jéhovah."

KJV ¹⁹ And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.

KJV ¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

BCC ² Va et crie ces paroles aux oreilles de Jérusalem : ainsi parle Jéhovah : Je me suis souvenu de la piété de ta jeunesse, de ton amour au temps des fiançailles, alors que tu me suivais au désert, au pays qu'on n'ensemence pas.

KJV ² Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

BCC ³ Israël était consacré à Jéhovah, comme les prémices de son revenu ; quiconque en mangeait se rendait coupable ; le malheur fondait sur lui, dit Jéhovah.

KJV ³ Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.

BCC ⁴ Écoutez la parole de Jéhovah, maison de Jacob, et vous toutes, familles de la maison d'Israël.

KJV ⁴ Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:

BCC ⁵ Ainsi parle Jéhovah : qu'est-ce que vos pères ont trouvé en moi d'injuste, pour s'éloigner de moi, pour suivre la vanité et devenir eux-mêmes vanité ?

KJV ⁵ Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?

BCC ⁶ Ils n'ont pas dit : "où est Jéhovah, qui nous a fait monter du pays d'Égypte, qui nous a guidés dans le désert, dans le pays aride et crevassé, dans le pays desséché et d'ombre de mort, dans le pays où nul homme ne passe et où personne n'habite ?"

KJV ⁶ Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?

BCC ⁷ Et je vous ai fait venir au pays semblable à un verger, pour en manger les fruits et les biens, et une fois entrés vous avez souillé mon pays et fait de mon héritage une abomination.

KJV ⁷ And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.

BCC ⁸ Les prêtres n'ont pas dit : "où est Jéhovah ?" Les dépositaires de la loi ne m'ont pas connu ; les pasteurs m'ont été infidèles, et les prophètes ont prophétisé par Baal, et ils ont suivi ceux qui ne sont d'aucun secours.

KJV ⁸ The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.

BCC ⁹ Aussi je veux encore plaider contre vous, dit Jéhovah, et contre les enfants de vos enfants.

KJV ⁹ Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead.

BCC ¹⁰ Passez donc aux îles de Céthim et regardez ; envoyez à Cédar et observez bien. et voyez s'il y a là rien de semblable.

KJV ¹⁰ For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.

BCC ¹¹ Une nation change-t-elle de dieux ? Et encore ces dieux n'en sont-t-ils pas !... Et mon peuple a changé sa gloire contre ce qui ne sert à rien !

KJV ¹¹ Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.

BCC ¹² Cieux, étonnez-vous-en, frémissez d'horreur et soyez stupéfaits, dit Jéhovah ;

KJV ¹² Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.

BCC ¹³ Car mon peuple a fait double mal : ils m'ont abandonné, Moi, la source des eaux vives, pour se creuser des citernes, des citernes crevassées qui ne retiennent pas l'eau.

KJV ¹³ For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

BCC ¹⁴ Israël est-il un esclave ? Est-il né d'un esclave dans la maison ? Pourquoi donc est-il traité comme un butin ?

KJV ¹⁴ Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?

BCC ¹⁵ Contre lui les lionceaux rugissent, poussent leurs cris et mettent son pays en dévastation ; ses villes sont livrées aux flammes, et il n'y a plus d'habitants.

KJV ¹⁵ The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.

BCC ¹⁶ Même les fils de Nophel de Taphnés te broutent le crâne !

KJV ¹⁶ Also the children of Noph and Tahapanes have broken the crown of thy head.

BCC ¹⁷ D'où te vient ce malheur, sinon de ce que tu as abandonné Jéhovah, ton Dieu, au temps où il te dirigeait dans la voie ?

KJV ¹⁷ Hast thou not procured this unto thyself, in that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, when he led thee by the way?

BCC ¹⁸ Et maintenant qu'as-tu à faire sur la route de l'Égypte, pour aller boire l'eau du Nil, et qu'as-tu à faire sur la route de l'Assyrie pour aller boire l'eau du fleuve ?

KJV ¹⁸ And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?

BCC ¹⁹ Ton impiété te châtie et tes rebellions te punissent ; sache donc et vois combien il est mauvais et amer d'avoir abandonné Jéhovah ton Dieu, et de n'avoir de moi aucune crainte, dit le Seigneur Jéhovah des armées.

KJV ¹⁹ Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

BCC ²⁰ Car depuis longtemps tu as brisé ton joug, rompu tes liens et dit : "je ne servirai plus !" Sur toute colline élevée et sous ton arbre vert tu t'es étendue comme une courtisane.

KJV ²⁰ For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.

BCC ²¹ Et moi, je t'avais plantée comme une vigne excellente, tout entière d'une souche franche. Comment t'es-tu changée pour moi en sarments bâtards d'une vigne étrangère ?

KJV ²¹ Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?

BCC ²² Oui, quand tu te laverais à la soude et que tu prodiguerais la potasse, ton iniquité ferait tache devant moi.

KJV ²² For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.

BCC ²³ Comment dis-tu : je ne me suis point souillée ; je ne suis point allée après les Baals ? Vois les traces de tes pas dans la Vallée ; reconnais ce que tu as fait, chamelle légère, croisant tes pas en tout sens !

KJV ²³ How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

BCC ²⁴ Onagre habituée au désert : dans l'ardeur de sa passion, elle aspire l'air ; qui l'empêchera de satisfaire son désir ? Nul de ceux qui la recherchent n'a à se fatiguer ; ils la trouvent en son mois.

KJV ²⁴ A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

BCC ²⁵ Prends garde que ton pied ne se trouve à nu et que ton gosier ne se dessèche ! Mais tu dis : "inutile ! Non, car j'aime les étrangers et je les suivrai."

KJV ²⁵ Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

BCC ²⁶ Comme un voleur pris sur le fait est couvert de honte, ainsi ont été confondus la maison d'Israël, ses rois, ses chefs, ses prêtres et ses prophètes,

KJV ²⁶ As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets.

BCC ²⁷ Qui disent au bois : "tu es mon père," et à la pierre : "tu m'as mis au monde." car ils m'ont tourné le dos, et non la face, et au temps de leur malheur ils diront : "lève-toi et sauve-nous !"

KJV ²⁷ Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.

BCC ²⁸ Où sont donc les dieux que tu t'es faits ? Qu'ils se lèvent, s'ils peuvent te sauver au temps de ton malheur. Car tes dieux, ô Juda, sont aussi nombreux que tes villes.

KJV ²⁸ But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.

BCC ²⁹ Pourquoi plaidez-vous contre moi ? Vous m'avez tous été infidèles, dit Jéhovah.

KJV ²⁹ Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the LORD.

BCC ³⁰ C'est en vain que j'ai frappé vos fils ; ils n'en ont pas retiré d'instruction ; votre épée a dévoré vos prophètes comme un lion destructeur.

KJV ³⁰ In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

BCC ³¹ Quelle race vous êtes ! Considérez ce que dit Jéhovah : ai-je été pour Israël un désert, un pays d'épaisses ténèbres ? Pourquoi mon peuple a-t-il dit : "nous sommes libres, nous ne reviendrons pas à vous ?"

KJV ³¹ O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?

BCC ³² Une jeune fille oublie-t-elle sa parure : une fiancée sa ceinture ? Et mon peuple m'a oublié Depuis des jours sans nombre !

KJV ³² Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.

BCC ³³ Que tu sais bien disposer tes voies pour chercher des amours ! Pour cela, tu t'es même accoutumée au crime.

KJV ³³ Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.

BCC ³⁴ Jusque sur les pans de tes vêtements, on aperçoit le sang de pauvres innocents que tu n'avais pas surpris en délit d'effraction, mais que tu as tués pour toutes ces choses.

KJV ³⁴ Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.

BCC ³⁵ Et tu dis : "oui, je suis innocente ; certainement sa colère s'est détournée de moi," me voici pour te faire le procès sur ce que tu dis : "je n'ai pas péché !"

KJV ³⁵ Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.

BCC ³⁶ Quelle hâte : tu mets à changer de route ! Tu seras rendue confuse par l'Égypte comme tu l'as été par l'Assyrie ;

KJV ³⁶ Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.

BCC ³⁷ Tu reviendras de là les mains sur la tête ; car Jéhovah a rejeté ceux en qui tu mets ta confiance, et tu ne réussiras point par leur appui.

KJV ³⁷ Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.

BCC ¹ Il est dit : lorsqu'un homme répudie sa femme, et qu'après l'avoir quittée, elle devient la femme d'un autre, cet homme retournera-t-il encore vers elle ? N'y aurait-il pas là une profanation pour le pays ? Et toi, tu t'es prostituée à de nombreux amants, et tu reviendrais vers moi ! Dit Jéhovah.

KJV ¹ They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.

BCC ² Lève les yeux vers les hauteurs et regarde : où n'as-tu pas été souillée ? Tu les attendais assise sur les routes, pareille à l'Arabe dans le désert, et tu as profané le pays par tes prostitutions et par ta méchanceté.

KJV ² Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness.

BCC ³ Les ondées de l'automne ont été retenues, les pluies du printemps ont manqué ; mais tu as eu un front de courtisane, tu n'as pas voulu rougir.

KJV ³ Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain; and thou hadst a whore's forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed.

BCC ⁴ Et maintenant, n'est-ce pas, tu me dis : "mon père, vous êtes l'ami de ma jeunesse ! Sera-t-il toujours irrité ?

KJV ⁴ Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art the guide of my youth?

BCC ⁵ Gardera-t-il à jamais son courroux ?" voilà ce que tu dis, et tu commets le crime et tu le consommes.

KJV ⁵ Will he reserve his anger for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldest.

BCC ⁶ Jéhovah me dit aux jours du roi Josias : as-tu vu ce qu'à fait Israël l'infidèle ? Elle est allée sur toute montagne élevée et sous tout arbre vert, et s'y est prostituée.

KJV ⁶ The LORD said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.

BCC ⁷ Je disais : après avoir fait toutes ces choses, elle reviendra à moi ; mais elle n'est pas revenue, et sa soeur, Juda la perfide, en a été témoin.

KJV ⁷ And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

BCC ⁸ Et quoique j'eusse, à cause de tous ses adultères, répudié Israël l'infidèle, et que je fui eusse donné sa lettre de divorce, j'ai vu que sa soeur, Juda la perfide, n'a pas été effrayée et qu'elle est allée se prostituer, elle aussi.

KJV ⁸ And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

BCC ⁹ Par sa bruyante impudicité, le pays a été profané, et elle a commis l'impureté avec le bois et la pierre,

KJV ⁹ And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.

BCC ¹⁰ Et avec tout cela sa soeur, Juda la perfide, n'est pas revenue à moi de tout son coeur, mais avec mensonge, dit Jéhovah.

KJV ¹⁰ And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD.

BCC ¹¹ Jéhovah me dit : Israël l'infidèle s'est montrée juste en comparaison de Juda la perfide.

KJV ¹¹ And the LORD said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.

BCC ¹² Va, et crie ces paroles du côté du septentrion et dis : "Reviens, infidèle Israël, dit Jéhovah ; Je ne veux pas vous montrer un visage sévère, car je suis miséricordieux, dit Jéhovah, et je ne garde pas ma colère à toujours.

KJV ¹² Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever.

BCC ¹³ Seulement reconnais ta faute, car tu as été infidèle à Jéhovah ton Dieu, et tu as prodigué tes pas vers les étrangers, Sous ton arbre vert, et tu n'as pas écouté ma voix, dit Jéhovah,

KJV ¹³ Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD.

BCC ¹⁴ Revenez, fils infidèles, dit Jéhovah, car je suis votre maître, et je vous prendrai, un d'une ville et deux d'une famille, et vous amènerai dans Sion.

KJV ¹⁴ Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

BCC ¹⁵ Et je vous donnerai des pasteurs selon mon coeur, qui vous paîtront avec intelligence et sagesse.

KJV ¹⁵ And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

BCC ¹⁶ Et quand vous aurez multiplié et fructifié dans le pays, en ces jours-là, dit Jéhovah, alors on ne dira plus : "l'arche de l'alliance de Jéhovah !" Elle ne reviendra plus à la pensée, on ne s'en souviendra plus, on ne la regrettera plus, et on n'en fera plus une autre.

KJV ¹⁶ And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.

BCC ¹⁷ En ce temps-là on appellera Jérusalem le trône de Jéhovah ! Et toutes les nations s'y assembleront au nom de Jéhovah dans Jérusalem, et elles ne suivront plus l'obstination de leur mauvais coeur.

KJV ¹⁷ At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.

BCC ¹⁸ En ces jours-là, la maison de Juda marchera avec la maison d'Israël, et elles viendront ensemble du pays du septentrion au pays dont j'ai donné l'héritage à vos pères.

KJV ²² Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?

BCC ²⁸ Ils s'engraissent, ils reluisent, ils dépassent même la mesure du mal ; ils ne font pas justice, justice à l'orphelin, et ils prospèrent ; ils ne font pas droit aux malheureux.

KJV ²⁸ They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.

KJV ³⁰ A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;

BCC ³¹ Les prophètes prophétisent en mentant ; les prêtres gouvernent au gré des prophètes, et mon peuple l'aime ainsi. Et que ferez-vous au terme de tout cela ?

KJV ³¹ The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
