WLC ¹ דִּבְרֵ֥י יִרְמְיָ֖הוּ בֶּן־ חִלְקִיָּ֑הוּ מִן־ הַכֹּֽהֲנִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר בַּעֲנָת֔וֹת בְּאֶ֖רֶץ בִּנְיָמִֽן׃

DRB ² auquel vint* la parole de l'Éternel, dans les jours de Josias, fils d'Amon, roi de Juda, la treizième année de son règne ;

KJV ² To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

WLC ² אֲשֶׁ֨ר הָיָ֤ה דְבַר־ יְהוָה֙ אֵלָ֔יו בִּימֵ֛י יֹאשִׁיָּ֥הוּ בֶן־ אָמ֖וֹן מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה בִּשְׁלֹשׁ־ עֶשְׂרֵ֥ה שָׁנָ֖ה לְמָלְכֽוֹ׃

DRB ³ elle vint aussi [à lui] dans les jours de Jehoïakim, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu'à la fin de la onzième année de Sédécias, fils de Josias, roi de Juda, jusqu'à ce que Jérusalem fut emmenée en captivité, au cinquième mois.*

KJV ³ It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

WLC ³ וַיְהִ֗י בִּימֵ֨י יְהוֹיָקִ֤ים בֶּן־ יֹאשִׁיָּ֙הוּ֙ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֔ה עַד־ תֹּם֙ עַשְׁתֵּ֣י עֶשְׂרֵ֣ה שָׁנָ֔ה לְצִדְקִיָּ֥הוּ בֶן־ יֹאשִׁיָּ֖הוּ מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה עַד־ גְּל֥וֹת יְרוּשָׁלִַ֖ם בַּחֹ֥דֶשׁ הַחֲמִישִֽׁי׃

DRB ⁴ Et la parole de l'Éternel vint à moi, disant :

KJV ⁴ Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

WLC ⁴ וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־ יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃

DRB ⁵ Avant que je te formasse dans le ventre [de ta mère], je t'ai connu, et avant que tu sortisses de [son] sein, je t'ai sanctifié, je t'ai établi* prophète pour les nations.

KJV ⁵ Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

WLC ⁵ בְּטֶ֨רֶם בַבֶּ֙טֶן֙ יְדַעְתִּ֔יךָ וּבְטֶ֛רֶם תֵּצֵ֥א מֵרֶ֖חֶם הִקְדַּשְׁתִּ֑יךָ נָבִ֥יא לַגּוֹיִ֖ם נְתַתִּֽיךָ׃

DRB ⁶ Et je dis : Ah, Seigneur Éternel ! voici, je ne sais pas parler ; car je suis un enfant.

KJV ⁶ Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

WLC ⁶ וָאֹמַ֗ר אֲהָהּ֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהֹוִ֔ה הִנֵּ֥ה לֹא־ יָדַ֖עְתִּי דַּבֵּ֑ר כִּי־ נַ֖עַר אָנֹֽכִי׃

DRB ⁷ Et l'Éternel me dit : Ne dis pas : Je suis un enfant, car pour tout ce pour quoi je t'enverrai, tu iras, et tout ce que je te commanderai, tu le diras.

KJV ⁷ But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

WLC ⁷ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֵלַ֔י אַל־ תֹּאמַ֖ר נַ֣עַר אָנֹ֑כִי כִּ֠י עַֽל־ כָּל־ אֲשֶׁ֤ר אֶֽשְׁלָחֲךָ֙ תֵּלֵ֔ךְ וְאֵ֛ת כָּל־ אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲצַוְּךָ֖ תְּדַבֵּֽר׃

DRB ⁸ Ne les crains point ; car je suis avec toi pour te délivrer, dit l'Éternel.

KJV ⁸ Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

WLC ⁸ אַל־ תִּירָ֖א מִפְּנֵיהֶ֑ם כִּֽי־ אִתְּךָ֥ אֲנִ֛י לְהַצִּלֶ֖ךָ נְאֻם־ יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ⁹ Et l'Éternel étendit sa main, et toucha ma bouche ; et l'Éternel me dit : Voici, j'ai mis mes paroles dans ta bouche.

KJV ⁹ Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

WLC ⁹ וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יְהוָה֙ אֶת־ יָד֔וֹ וַיַּגַּ֖ע עַל־ פִּ֑י וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֵלַ֔י הִנֵּ֛ה נָתַ֥תִּי דְבָרַ֖י בְּפִֽיךָ׃

DRB ¹⁰ Regarde, je t'ai établi ce jour-ci sur les nations et sur les royaumes, pour arracher, et pour démolir, et pour détruire, et pour renverser, pour bâtir et pour planter.

KJV ¹⁰ See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

WLC ¹⁰ רְאֵ֞ה הִפְקַדְתִּ֣יךָ ׀ הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֗ה עַל־ הַגּוֹיִם֙ וְעַל־ הַמַּמְלָכ֔וֹת לִנְת֥וֹשׁ וְלִנְת֖וֹץ וּלְהַאֲבִ֣יד וְלַהֲר֑וֹס לִבְנ֖וֹת וְלִנְטֽוֹעַ׃

DRB ¹¹ Et la parole de l'Éternel vint à moi, disant : Que vois-tu, Jérémie ? Et je dis : Je vois un bâton d'amandier*.

KJV ¹¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.

WLC ¹¹ וַיְהִ֤י דְבַר־ יְהוָה֙ אֵלַ֣י לֵאמֹ֔ר מָה־ אַתָּ֥ה רֹאֶ֖ה יִרְמְיָ֑הוּ וָאֹמַ֕ר מַקֵּ֥ל שָׁקֵ֖ד אֲנִ֥י רֹאֶֽה׃

DRB ¹² Et l'Éternel me dit : Tu as bien vu, car je veille sur ma parole pour l'exécuter.

KJV ¹² Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

WLC ¹² וַיֹּ֧אמֶר יְהוָ֛ה אֵלַ֖י הֵיטַ֣בְתָּ לִרְא֑וֹת כִּֽי־ שֹׁקֵ֥ד אֲנִ֛י עַל־ דְּבָרִ֖י לַעֲשֹׂתֽוֹ׃

DRB ¹³ Et la parole de l'Éternel vint à moi une seconde fois, disant : Que vois-tu ? Et je dis : Je vois un pot bouillant, dont le devant est du côté du nord.

KJV ¹³ And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.

WLC ¹³ וַיְהִ֨י דְבַר־ יְהוָ֤ה ׀ אֵלַי֙ שֵׁנִ֣ית לֵאמֹ֔ר מָ֥ה אַתָּ֖ה רֹאֶ֑ה וָאֹמַ֗ר סִ֤יר נָפ֙וּחַ֙ אֲנִ֣י רֹאֶ֔ה וּפָנָ֖יו מִפְּנֵ֥י צָפֽוֹנָה׃

DRB ¹⁴ Et l'Éternel me dit : Du nord le mal fondra sur tous les habitants du pays.

KJV ¹⁴ Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

WLC ¹⁴ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה אֵלָ֑י מִצָּפוֹן֙ תִּפָּתַ֣ח הָרָעָ֔ה עַ֥ל כָּל־ יֹשְׁבֵ֖י הָאָֽרֶץ׃

DRB ¹⁵ Car voici, j'appelle toutes les familles des royaumes du nord, dit l'Éternel, et elles viendront, et mettront chacune son trône à l'entrée des portes de Jérusalem, et contre toutes ses murailles à l'entour, et contre toutes les villes de Juda.

KJV ¹⁵ For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

WLC ¹⁵ כִּ֣י ׀ הִנְנִ֣י קֹרֵ֗א לְכָֽל־ מִשְׁפְּח֛וֹת מַמְלְכ֥וֹת צָפ֖וֹנָה נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֑ה וּבָ֡אוּ וְֽנָתְנוּ֩ אִ֨ישׁ כִּסְא֜וֹ פֶּ֣תַח ׀ שַׁעֲרֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֗ם וְעַ֤ל כָּל־ חוֹמֹתֶ֙יהָ֙ סָבִ֔יב וְעַ֖ל כָּל־ עָרֵ֥י יְהוּדָֽה׃

DRB ¹⁶ Et je prononcerai contre eux mes jugements, à cause de toute leur iniquité par laquelle ils m'ont abandonné, et ont brûlé de l'encens à d'autres dieux, et se sont prosternés devant l'ouvrage de leurs mains.

KJV ¹⁶ And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

WLC ¹⁶ וְדִבַּרְתִּ֤י מִשְׁפָּטַי֙ אוֹתָ֔ם עַ֖ל כָּל־ רָעָתָ֑ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר עֲזָב֗וּנִי וַֽיְקַטְּרוּ֙ לֵאלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֔ים וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲו֖וּ לְמַעֲשֵׂ֥י יְדֵיהֶֽם׃

DRB ¹⁷ Et toi, ceins tes reins, et lève-toi, et dis-leur tout ce que je te commanderai ; ne sois point effrayé d'eux, de peur que moi je ne t'épouvante devant eux.

KJV ¹⁷ Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.

WLC ¹⁷ וְאַתָּה֙ תֶּאְזֹ֣ר מָתְנֶ֔יךָ וְקַמְתָּ֙ וְדִבַּרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם אֵ֛ת כָּל־ אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָנֹכִ֖י אֲצַוֶּ֑ךָּ אַל־ תֵּחַת֙ מִפְּנֵיהֶ֔ם פֶּֽן־ אֲחִתְּךָ֖ לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃

DRB ¹⁸ Et moi, voici, je t'établis aujourd'hui comme une ville forte, et comme une colonne de fer, et comme des murailles d'airain, contre tout le pays, contre les rois de Juda, ses princes, ses sacrificateurs, et le peuple du pays.

KJV ¹⁸ For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

WLC ¹⁸ וַאֲנִ֞י הִנֵּ֧ה נְתַתִּ֣יךָ הַיּ֗וֹם לְעִ֨יר מִבְצָ֜ר וּלְעַמּ֥וּד בַּרְזֶ֛ל וּלְחֹמ֥וֹת נְחֹ֖שֶׁת עַל־ כָּל־ הָאָ֑רֶץ לְמַלְכֵ֤י יְהוּדָה֙ לְשָׂרֶ֔יהָ לְכֹהֲנֶ֖יהָ וּלְעַ֥ם הָאָֽרֶץ׃

DRB ¹⁹ Et ils combattront contre toi, mais ils ne prévaudront pas sur toi, car moi je suis avec toi, dit l'Éternel, pour te délivrer.

KJV ¹⁹ And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.

WLC ¹⁹ וְנִלְחֲמ֥וּ אֵלֶ֖יךָ וְלֹא־ י֣וּכְלוּ לָ֑ךְ כִּֽי־ אִתְּךָ֥ אֲנִ֛י נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֖ה לְהַצִּילֶֽךָ׃

DRB ¹ Et la parole de l'Éternel vint à moi, disant :

KJV ¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

WLC ¹ וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־ יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃

DRB ² Va, et crie aux oreilles de Jérusalem, disant : Ainsi dit l'Éternel : Je me souviens de toi, de la grâce de ta jeunesse, de l'amour de tes fiançailles, quand tu marchais après moi dans le désert, dans un pays non semé.

KJV ² Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

WLC ² הָלֹ֡ךְ וְקָֽרָאתָ֩ בְאָזְנֵ֨י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם לֵאמֹ֗ר כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה זָכַ֤רְתִּי לָךְ֙ חֶ֣סֶד נְעוּרַ֔יִךְ אַהֲבַ֖ת כְּלוּלֹתָ֑יִךְ לֶכְתֵּ֤ךְ אַחֲרַי֙ בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר בְּאֶ֖רֶץ לֹ֥א זְרוּעָֽה׃

DRB ³ Israël était saint* à l'Éternel, les prémices de ses fruits. Tous ceux qui le dévorent sont coupables ; il viendra sur eux du mal, dit l'Éternel.

KJV ³ Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.

WLC ³ קֹ֤דֶשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לַיהוָ֔ה רֵאשִׁ֖ית תְּבוּאָתֹ֑ה כָּל־ אֹכְלָ֣יו יֶאְשָׁ֔מוּ רָעָ֛ה תָּבֹ֥א אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם נְאֻם־ יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ⁴ Écoutez la parole de l'Éternel, maison de Jacob, et [vous], toutes les familles de la maison d'Israël !

KJV ⁴ Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:

WLC ⁴ שִׁמְע֥וּ דְבַר־ יְהוָ֖ה בֵּ֣ית יַעֲקֹ֑ב וְכָֽל־ מִשְׁפְּח֖וֹת בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

DRB ⁵ Ainsi dit l'Éternel : Quelle iniquité vos pères ont-ils trouvée en moi, qu'ils se soient éloignés de moi, et soient allés après la vanité, et soient devenus vains ?

KJV ⁵ Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?

WLC ⁵ כֹּ֣ה ׀ אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה מַה־ מָּצְא֨וּ אֲבוֹתֵיכֶ֥ם בִּי֙ עָ֔וֶל כִּ֥י רָחֲק֖וּ מֵעָלָ֑י וַיֵּֽלְכ֛וּ אַחֲרֵ֥י הַהֶ֖בֶל וַיֶּהְבָּֽלוּ׃

DRB ⁶ Et ils n'ont pas dit : Où est l'Éternel qui nous a fait monter du pays d'Égypte, qui nous a fait marcher dans le désert, dans un pays stérile et plein de fosses, dans un pays aride et d'ombre de mort, dans un pays où personne ne passe et où aucun homme n'habite ?

KJV ⁶ Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?

WLC ⁶ וְלֹ֣א אָמְר֔וּ אַיֵּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה הַמַּעֲלֶ֥ה אֹתָ֖נוּ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם הַמּוֹלִ֨יךְ אֹתָ֜נוּ בַּמִּדְבָּ֗ר בְּאֶ֨רֶץ עֲרָבָ֤ה וְשׁוּחָה֙ בְּאֶ֙רֶץ֙ צִיָּ֣ה וְצַלְמָ֔וֶת בְּאֶ֗רֶץ לֹֽא־ עָ֤בַר בָּהּ֙ אִ֔ישׁ וְלֹֽא־ יָשַׁ֥ב אָדָ֖ם שָֽׁם׃

DRB ⁷ Et je vous ai amenés dans un pays fertile*, pour en manger les fruits et les biens ; et vous y êtes venus, et vous avez rendu impur mon pays, et de mon héritage vous avez fait une abomination.

KJV ⁷ And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.

WLC ⁷ וָאָבִ֤יא אֶתְכֶם֙ אֶל־ אֶ֣רֶץ הַכַּרְמֶ֔ל לֶאֱכֹ֥ל פִּרְיָ֖הּ וְטוּבָ֑הּ וַתָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ וַתְּטַמְּא֣וּ אֶת־ אַרְצִ֔י וְנַחֲלָתִ֥י שַׂמְתֶּ֖ם לְתוֹעֵבָֽה׃

DRB ⁸ Les sacrificateurs n'ont pas dit : Où est l'Éternel ? et ceux qui s'occupaient de la loi ne m'ont point connu, et les pasteurs se sont rebellés contre moi, et les prophètes ont prophétisé par Baal et ont marché après des choses qui ne profitent pas.

KJV ⁸ The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.

WLC ⁸ הַכֹּהֲנִ֗ים לֹ֤א אָֽמְרוּ֙ אַיֵּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה וְתֹפְשֵׂ֤י הַתּוֹרָה֙ לֹ֣א יְדָע֔וּנִי וְהָרֹעִ֖ים פָּ֣שְׁעוּ בִ֑י וְהַנְּבִיאִים֙ נִבְּא֣וּ בַבַּ֔עַל וְאַחֲרֵ֥י לֹֽא־ יוֹעִ֖לוּ הָלָֽכוּ׃

DRB ⁹ C'est pourquoi je contesterai encore avec vous, dit l'Éternel, et je contesterai avec les fils de vos fils.

KJV ⁹ Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead.

WLC ⁹ לָכֵ֗ן עֹ֛ד אָרִ֥יב אִתְּכֶ֖ם נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֑ה וְאֶת־ בְּנֵ֥י בְנֵיכֶ֖ם אָרִֽיב׃

DRB ¹⁰ Car passez par les îles* de Kittim, et voyez ; et envoyez en Kédar, et considérez bien, et voyez s'il y a eu rien de tel.

KJV ¹⁰ For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.

WLC ¹⁰ כִּ֣י עִבְר֞וּ אִיֵּ֤י כִתִּיִּים֙ וּרְא֔וּ וְקֵדָ֛ר שִׁלְח֥וּ וְהִֽתְבּוֹנְנ֖וּ מְאֹ֑ד וּרְא֕וּ הֵ֥ן הָיְתָ֖ה כָּזֹֽאת׃

DRB ¹¹ Y a-t-il une nation qui ait changé de dieux ? - et ce ne sont pas des dieux. Mais mon peuple a changé sa gloire contre ce qui n'est d'aucun profit.

KJV ¹¹ Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.

WLC ¹¹ הַהֵימִ֥יר גּוֹי֙ אֱלֹהִ֔ים וְהֵ֖מָּה לֹ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים וְעַמִּ֛י הֵמִ֥יר כְּבוֹד֖וֹ בְּל֥וֹא יוֹעִֽיל׃

DRB ¹² Cieux, soyez étonnés de ceci, frissonnez, et soyez extrêmement confondus, dit l'Éternel.

KJV ¹² Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.

WLC ¹² שֹׁ֥מּוּ שָׁמַ֖יִם עַל־ זֹ֑את וְשַׂעֲר֛וּ חָרְב֥וּ מְאֹ֖ד נְאֻם־ יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ¹³ Car mon peuple a fait deux maux : ils m'ont abandonné, moi, la source des eaux vives, pour se creuser des citernes, des citernes crevassées qui ne retiennent pas l'eau.

KJV ¹³ For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

WLC ¹³ כִּֽי־ שְׁתַּ֥יִם רָע֖וֹת עָשָׂ֣ה עַמִּ֑י אֹתִ֨י עָזְב֜וּ מְק֣וֹר ׀ מַ֣יִם חַיִּ֗ים לַחְצֹ֤ב לָהֶם֙ בֹּאר֔וֹת בֹּארֹת֙ נִשְׁבָּרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־ יָכִ֖לוּ הַמָּֽיִם׃

DRB ¹⁴ Israël est-il un serviteur ? Est-il un [esclave] né dans la maison ? Pourquoi est-il mis au pillage ?

KJV ¹⁴ Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?

WLC ¹⁴ הַעֶ֙בֶד֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אִם־ יְלִ֥יד בַּ֖יִת ה֑וּא מַדּ֖וּעַ הָיָ֥ה לָבַֽז׃

DRB ¹⁵ Les jeunes lions ont rugi contre lui, ils ont fait retentir leur voix, et ils ont mis son pays en désolation ; ses villes sont brûlées, de sorte qu'il n'y a plus d'habitant.

KJV ¹⁵ The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.

WLC ¹⁵ עָלָיו֙ יִשְׁאֲג֣וּ כְפִרִ֔ים נָתְנ֖וּ קוֹלָ֑ם וַיָּשִׁ֤יתוּ אַרְצוֹ֙ לְשַׁמָּ֔ה עָרָ֥יו מִבְּלִ֥י יֹשֵֽׁב׃

DRB ¹⁸ Et maintenant, qu'as-tu affaire d'aller en Égypte pour boire les eaux du Shikhor* ? Et qu'as-tu affaire d'aller vers l'Assyrie** pour boire les eaux du fleuve ?

KJV ¹⁸ And now what hast thou to do in the way of Egypt, to drink the waters of Sihor? or what hast thou to do in the way of Assyria, to drink the waters of the river?

WLC ¹⁸ וְעַתָּ֗ה מַה־ לָּךְ֙ לְדֶ֣רֶךְ מִצְרַ֔יִם לִשְׁתּ֖וֹת מֵ֣י שִׁח֑וֹר וּמַה־ לָּךְ֙ לְדֶ֣רֶךְ אַשּׁ֔וּר לִשְׁתּ֖וֹת מֵ֥י נָהָֽר׃

DRB ¹⁹ Ton iniquité te châtie, et tes rébellions te reprennent ; et connais, et vois, que c'est une chose mauvaise et amère que tu aies abandonné l'Éternel, ton Dieu, et que ma crainte ne soit pas en toi, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel des armées.

KJV ¹⁹ Thine own wickedness shall correct thee, and thy backslidings shall reprove thee: know therefore and see that it is an evil thing and bitter, that thou hast forsaken the LORD thy God, and that my fear is not in thee, saith the Lord GOD of hosts.

DRB ²⁰ Car d'ancienneté tu as rompu* ton joug, arraché tes liens, et tu as dit : Je ne servirai pas**. Car, sur toute haute colline et sous tout arbre vert tu t'inclines, tu te prostitues.

KJV ²⁰ For of old time I have broken thy yoke, and burst thy bands; and thou saidst, I will not transgress; when upon every high hill and under every green tree thou wanderest, playing the harlot.

DRB ²¹ Et moi je t'avais plantée, un cep exquis, une toute vraie semence ; comment t'es-tu changée pour moi en sarments dégénérés d'une vigne étrangère ?

KJV ²¹ Yet I had planted thee a noble vine, wholly a right seed: how then art thou turned into the degenerate plant of a strange vine unto me?

WLC ²¹ וְאָֽנֹכִי֙ נְטַעְתִּ֣יךְ שֹׂרֵ֔ק כֻּלֹּ֖ה זֶ֣רַע אֱמֶ֑ת וְאֵיךְ֙ נֶהְפַּ֣כְתְּ לִ֔י סוּרֵ֖י הַגֶּ֥פֶן נָכְרִיָּֽה׃

DRB ²² Quand tu te laverais avec du nitre, et que tu emploierais beaucoup de potasse, ton iniquité reste marquée devant moi, dit le Seigneur, l'Éternel.

KJV ²² For though thou wash thee with nitre, and take thee much soap, yet thine iniquity is marked before me, saith the Lord GOD.

WLC ²² כִּ֤י אִם־ תְּכַבְּסִי֙ בַּנֶּ֔תֶר וְתַרְבִּי־ לָ֖ךְ בֹּרִ֑ית נִכְתָּ֤ם עֲוֺנֵךְ֙ לְפָנַ֔י נְאֻ֖ם אֲדֹנָ֥י יְהוִֽה׃

DRB ²³ Comment dis-tu : Je ne me suis pas rendue impure, je n'ai pas marché après les Baals ? Regarde ton chemin dans la vallée, reconnais ce que tu as fait, dromadaire légère, qui vas çà et là croisant tes chemins.

KJV ²³ How canst thou say, I am not polluted, I have not gone after Baalim? see thy way in the valley, know what thou hast done: thou art a swift dromedary traversing her ways;

DRB ²⁴ Ânesse sauvage accoutumée au désert, dans le désir de son âme elle hume le vent : dans son ardeur, qui la détournera ? Tous ceux qui la cherchent ne se fatigueront point ; ils la trouveront en son mois.

KJV ²⁴ A wild ass used to the wilderness, that snuffeth up the wind at her pleasure; in her occasion who can turn her away? all they that seek her will not weary themselves; in her month they shall find her.

DRB ²⁵ Retiens ton pied de se laisser déchausser ; et ton gosier d'avoir soif. Mais tu dis : C'est en vain ; non, car j'aime les étrangers, et j'irai après eux.

KJV ²⁵ Withhold thy foot from being unshod, and thy throat from thirst: but thou saidst, There is no hope: no; for I have loved strangers, and after them will I go.

DRB ²⁶ Comme un voleur est confus quand il est trouvé, ainsi sera confuse la maison d'Israël, eux, leurs rois, leurs princes, et leurs sacrificateurs, et leurs prophètes ;

KJV ²⁶ As the thief is ashamed when he is found, so is the house of Israel ashamed; they, their kings, their princes, and their priests, and their prophets.

KJV ²⁷ Saying to a stock, Thou art my father; and to a stone, Thou hast brought me forth: for they have turned their back unto me, and not their face: but in the time of their trouble they will say, Arise, and save us.

DRB ²⁸ Et où sont tes dieux que tu t'es faits ? Qu'ils se lèvent, s'ils peuvent te sauver au temps de ton malheur ! Car le nombre de tes dieux est celui de tes villes, ô Juda !

KJV ²⁸ But where are thy gods that thou hast made thee? let them arise, if they can save thee in the time of thy trouble: for according to the number of thy cities are thy gods, O Judah.

DRB ²⁹ Pourquoi contesteriez-vous avec moi ? Vous vous êtes tous rebellés contre moi, dit l'Éternel.

KJV ²⁹ Wherefore will ye plead with me? ye all have transgressed against me, saith the LORD.

DRB ³⁰ J'ai frappé vos fils en vain, ils ne reçoivent pas la correction ; votre épée a dévoré vos prophètes, comme un lion destructeur.

KJV ³⁰ In vain have I smitten your children; they received no correction: your own sword hath devoured your prophets, like a destroying lion.

DRB ³¹ Ô génération ! voyez la parole de l'Éternel ! Ai-je été un désert pour Israël, ou un pays de ténèbres ? Pourquoi mon peuple a-t-il dit : Nous sommes maîtres, nous ne viendrons plus à toi ?

KJV ³¹ O generation, see ye the word of the LORD. Have I been a wilderness unto Israel? a land of darkness? wherefore say my people, We are lords; we will come no more unto thee?

WLC ³¹ הַדּ֗וֹר אַתֶּם֙ רְא֣וּ דְבַר־ יְהוָ֔ה הֲמִדְבָּ֤ר הָיִ֙יתִי֙ לְיִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אִ֛ם אֶ֥רֶץ מַאְפֵּ֖לְיָ֑ה מַדּ֜וּעַ אָמְר֤וּ עַמִּי֙ רַ֔דְנוּ לֽוֹא־ נָב֥וֹא ע֖וֹד אֵלֶֽיךָ׃

DRB ³² La vierge oublie-t-elle sa parure ? l'épouse, ses atours ? Mais mon peuple m'a oublié pendant des jours sans nombre.

KJV ³² Can a maid forget her ornaments, or a bride her attire? yet my people have forgotten me days without number.

WLC ³² הֲתִשְׁכַּ֤ח בְּתוּלָה֙ עֶדְיָ֔הּ כַּלָּ֖ה קִשֻּׁרֶ֑יהָ וְעַמִּ֣י שְׁכֵח֔וּנִי יָמִ֖ים אֵ֥ין מִסְפָּֽר׃

DRB ³³ Comme tu es habile dans tes voies pour chercher l'amour ! C'est pourquoi aussi tu as accoutumé tes voies aux choses iniques.

KJV ³³ Why trimmest thou thy way to seek love? therefore hast thou also taught the wicked ones thy ways.

WLC ³³ מַה־ תֵּיטִ֥בִי דַּרְכֵּ֖ךְ לְבַקֵּ֣שׁ אַהֲבָ֑ה לָכֵן֙ גַּ֣ם אֶת־ הָרָע֔וֹת אֶת־ דְּרָכָֽיִךְ׃

DRB ³⁴ Même dans les pans de ta robe a été trouvé le sang des* pauvres innocents, que tu n'avais point trouvés faisant effraction ; mais [il y a été trouvé] à cause de toutes ces choses-là**.

KJV ³⁴ Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.

WLC ³⁴ גַּ֤ם בִּכְנָפַ֙יִךְ֙ נִמְצְא֔וּ דַּ֛ם נַפְשׁ֥וֹת אֶבְיוֹנִ֖ים נְקִיִּ֑ים לֹֽא־ בַמַּחְתֶּ֥רֶת מְצָאתִ֖ים כִּ֥י עַל־ כָּל־ אֵֽלֶּה׃

DRB ³⁵ Et tu dis : Oui, je suis innocente, sa colère se détournera de moi. Voici, j'entrerai en jugement avec toi sur ce que tu as dit : Je n'ai point péché.

KJV ³⁵ Yet thou sayest, Because I am innocent, surely his anger shall turn from me. Behold, I will plead with thee, because thou sayest, I have not sinned.

WLC ³⁵ וַתֹּֽאמְרִי֙ כִּ֣י נִקֵּ֔יתִי אַ֛ךְ שָׁ֥ב אַפּ֖וֹ מִמֶּ֑נִּי הִנְנִי֙ נִשְׁפָּ֣ט אוֹתָ֔ךְ עַל־ אָמְרֵ֖ךְ לֹ֥א חָטָֽאתִי׃

DRB ³⁶ Pourquoi te donnes-tu tant de mouvement pour changer de chemin ? Tu auras honte aussi de l'Égypte, comme tu as eu honte de l'Assyrie.

KJV ³⁶ Why gaddest thou about so much to change thy way? thou also shalt be ashamed of Egypt, as thou wast ashamed of Assyria.

DRB ³⁷ De celle-là aussi tu sortiras avec tes mains sur ta tête, car l'Éternel a rejeté ceux en qui tu as eu confiance*, et tu ne réussiras pas par eux.

KJV ³⁷ Yea, thou shalt go forth from him, and thine hands upon thine head: for the LORD hath rejected thy confidences, and thou shalt not prosper in them.

WLC ³⁷ גַּ֣ם מֵאֵ֥ת זֶה֙ תֵּֽצְאִ֔י וְיָדַ֖יִךְ עַל־ רֹאשֵׁ֑ךְ כִּֽי־ מָאַ֤ס יְהֹוָה֙ בְּמִבְטַחַ֔יִךְ וְלֹ֥א תַצְלִ֖יחִי לָהֶֽם׃

DRB ¹ Il est dit : Si un homme renvoie sa femme, et qu'elle le quitte et soit à un autre homme, retournera-t-il vers elle ? ce pays-là n'en sera-t-il pas entièrement souillé ? Et toi, tu t'es prostituée à beaucoup d'amants ; toutefois retourne vers moi, dit l'Éternel.

KJV ¹ They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.

DRB ² Lève tes yeux vers les hauteurs*, et regarde ! Où ne t'es-tu pas abandonnée ? Tu t'es assise sur les chemins pour eux, comme un Arabe dans le désert, et tu as souillé le pays par tes prostitutions et par ton iniquité.

KJV ² Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness.

WLC ² שְׂאִֽי־ עֵינַ֨יִךְ עַל־ שְׁפָיִ֜ם וּרְאִ֗י אֵיפֹה֙ לֹ֣א עַל־ דְּרָכִים֙ יָשַׁ֣בְתְּ לָהֶ֔ם כַּעֲרָבִ֖י בַּמִּדְבָּ֑ר וַתַּחֲנִ֣יפִי אֶ֔רֶץ בִּזְנוּתַ֖יִךְ וּבְרָעָתֵֽךְ׃

DRB ³ Aussi les ondées ont été retenues, et il n'y a pas eu de pluie de la dernière saison ; mais tu as un front de femme prostituée, tu refuses d'avoir honte.

KJV ³ Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain; and thou hadst a whore's forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed.

WLC ³ וַיִּמָּנְע֣וּ רְבִבִ֔ים וּמַלְק֖וֹשׁ ל֣וֹא הָיָ֑ה וּמֵ֨צַח אִשָּׁ֤ה זוֹנָה֙ הָ֣יָה לָ֔ךְ מֵאַ֖נְתְּ הִכָּלֵֽם׃

DRB ⁴ Ne me crieras-tu pas désormais : Mon Père ! tu es le conducteur de ma jeunesse ?

KJV ⁴ Wilt thou not from this time cry unto me, My father, thou art the guide of my youth?

WLC ⁴ הֲל֣וֹא מֵעַ֔תָּה לִ֖י אָבִ֑י אַלּ֥וּף נְעֻרַ֖י אָֽתָּה׃

DRB ⁵ Gardera-t-il à toujours sa colère, la conservera-t-il à jamais ? Voici, tu as parlé, et tu as fait les choses mauvaises et tu as su les accomplir.

KJV ⁵ Will he reserve his anger for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldest.

WLC ⁵ הֲיִנְטֹ֣ר לְעוֹלָ֔ם אִם־ יִשְׁמֹ֖ר לָנֶ֑צַח הִנֵּ֥ה וַתַּעֲשִׂ֥י הָרָע֖וֹת וַתּוּכָֽל׃

DRB ⁶ Et l'Éternel me dit dans les jours du roi Josias : As-tu vu ce qu'a fait Israël, l'infidèle ? Elle s'en est allée sur toute haute montagne et sous tout arbre vert, et elle s'y est prostituée.

KJV ⁶ The LORD said also unto me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen that which backsliding Israel hath done? she is gone up upon every high mountain and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.

DRB ⁷ Et j'ai dit : Après qu'elle a fait toutes ces choses, elle reviendra à moi ; mais elle n'est pas revenue. Et sa sœur, Juda la perfide, l'a vu.

KJV ⁷ And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

DRB ⁸ Et j'ai vu que, [quand], pour toutes les choses en lesquelles Israël l'infidèle avait commis adultère, je l'ai renvoyée et lui ai donné sa lettre de divorce, toutefois sa sœur, Juda la perfide, n'en a pas eu de crainte, mais elle s'en est allée et s'est prostituée, elle aussi.

KJV ⁸ And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

WLC ⁸ וָאֵ֗רֶא כִּ֤י עַל־ כָּל־ אֹדוֹת֙ אֲשֶׁ֤ר נִֽאֲפָה֙ מְשֻׁבָ֣ה יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל שִׁלַּחְתִּ֕יהָ וָאֶתֵּ֛ן אֶת־ סֵ֥פֶר כְּרִיתֻתֶ֖יהָ אֵלֶ֑יהָ וְלֹ֨א יָֽרְאָ֜ה בֹּֽגֵדָ֤ה יְהוּדָה֙ אֲחוֹתָ֔הּ וַתֵּ֖לֶךְ וַתִּ֥זֶן גַּם־ הִֽיא׃

DRB ⁹ Et il est arrivé que, par la légèreté* de sa prostitution, elle a souillé le pays, et a commis adultère avec la pierre et le bois.

KJV ⁹ And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.

WLC ⁹ וְהָיָה֙ מִקֹּ֣ל זְנוּתָ֔הּ וַתֶּחֱנַ֖ף אֶת־ הָאָ֑רֶץ וַתִּנְאַ֥ף אֶת־ הָאֶ֖בֶן וְאֶת־ הָעֵֽץ׃

DRB ¹⁰ Et même, avec tout cela, sa sœur, Juda la perfide, n'est pas revenue à moi de tout son cœur, mais avec mensonge, dit l'Éternel.

KJV ¹⁰ And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD.

WLC ¹⁰ וְגַם־ בְּכָל־ זֹ֗את לֹא־ שָׁ֨בָה אֵלַ֜י בָּגוֹדָ֧ה אֲחוֹתָ֛הּ יְהוּדָ֖ה בְּכָל־ לִבָּ֑הּ כִּ֥י אִם־ בְּשֶׁ֖קֶר נְאֻם־ יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ¹¹ Et l'Éternel me dit : Israël l'infidèle s'est montrée plus juste que Juda la perfide.

KJV ¹¹ And the LORD said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.

WLC ¹¹ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֵלַ֔י צִדְּקָ֥ה נַפְשָׁ֖הּ מְשֻׁבָ֣ה יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל מִבֹּגֵדָ֖ה יְהוּדָֽה׃

DRB ¹² Va, et crie ces paroles vers le nord, et dis : Reviens, Israël l'infidèle, dit l'Éternel ; je ne ferai pas peser sur vous un visage irrité, car je suis bon, dit l'Éternel ; je ne garderai pas ma colère à toujours.

KJV ¹² Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever.

WLC ¹² הָלֹ֡ךְ וְקָֽרָאתָ֩ אֶת־ הַדְּבָרִ֨ים הָאֵ֜לֶּה צָפ֗וֹנָה וְ֠אָמַרְתָּ שׁ֣וּבָה מְשֻׁבָ֤ה יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֔ה לֽוֹא־ אַפִּ֥יל פָּנַ֖י בָּכֶ֑ם כִּֽי־ חָסִ֤יד אֲנִי֙ נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֔ה לֹ֥א אֶטּ֖וֹר לְעוֹלָֽם׃

DRB ¹³ Seulement, reconnais ton iniquité, car tu t'es rebellée contre l'Éternel, ton Dieu, et tu as tourné çà et là tes chemins vers les étrangers sous tout arbre vert ; et vous n'avez pas écouté ma voix, dit l'Éternel.

KJV ¹³ Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD.

WLC ¹³ אַ֚ךְ דְּעִ֣י עֲוֺנֵ֔ךְ כִּ֛י בַּיהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהַ֖יִךְ פָּשָׁ֑עַתְּ וַתְּפַזְּרִ֨י אֶת־ דְּרָכַ֜יִךְ לַזָּרִ֗ים תַּ֚חַת כָּל־ עֵ֣ץ רַעֲנָ֔ן וּבְקוֹלִ֥י לֹא־ שְׁמַעְתֶּ֖ם נְאֻם־ יְהֹוָֽה׃

DRB ¹⁴ Revenez, fils infidèles, dit l'Éternel, car moi je vous ai épousés ; et je vous prendrai, un d'une ville, et deux d'une famille, et je vous ferai venir à Sion.

KJV ¹⁴ Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

WLC ¹⁴ שׁ֣וּבוּ בָנִ֤ים שׁוֹבָבִים֙ נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֔ה כִּ֥י אָנֹכִ֖י בָּעַ֣לְתִּי בָכֶ֑ם וְלָקַחְתִּ֨י אֶתְכֶ֜ם אֶחָ֣ד מֵעִ֗יר וּשְׁנַ֙יִם֙ מִמִּשְׁפָּחָ֔ה וְהֵבֵאתִ֥י אֶתְכֶ֖ם צִיּֽוֹן׃

DRB ¹⁵ Et je vous donnerai des pasteurs selon mon cœur, et ils vous paîtront avec connaissance et avec intelligence.

KJV ¹⁵ And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

WLC ¹⁵ וְנָתַתִּ֥י לָכֶ֛ם רֹעִ֖ים כְּלִבִּ֑י וְרָע֥וּ אֶתְכֶ֖ם דֵּעָ֥ה וְהַשְׂכֵּֽיל׃

DRB ¹⁶ Et il arrivera que, quand vous aurez multiplié et fructifié dans le pays, en ces jours-là, dit l'Éternel, on ne dira plus : L'arche de l'alliance de l'Éternel ! Et elle ne montera plus au cœur, et on ne s'en souviendra pas, et on ne la visitera pas, et on ne fera plus cela*.

KJV ¹⁶ And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.

DRB ¹⁷ Dans ce temps-là on appellera Jérusalem le trône de l'Éternel ; et toutes les nations se rassembleront vers elle, au* nom de l'Éternel, à Jérusalem ; et elles ne marcheront plus suivant le penchant obstiné de leur mauvais cœur.

KJV ¹⁷ At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.

DRB ¹⁸ En ces jours-là, la maison de Juda marchera avec la maison d'Israël ; et ils viendront ensemble du pays du nord au pays que j'ai donné en héritage à vos pères.

KJV ¹⁸ In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together out of the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance unto your fathers.

DRB ¹⁹ Et moi j'ai dit : Comment te mettrai-je parmi les fils, et te donnerai-je un pays désirable, le bel héritage des armées* des nations ? Et j'ai dit : Vous m'appellerez : Mon père ! et vous ne vous détournerez pas de moi…

KJV ¹⁹ But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me.

DRB ²⁰ Certainement, comme une femme perfide [se détourne] de son ami, ainsi vous avez agi perfidement envers moi, maison d'Israël, dit l'Éternel.

KJV ²⁰ Surely as a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.

WLC ²⁰ אָכֵ֛ן בָּגְדָ֥ה אִשָּׁ֖ה מֵרֵעָ֑הּ כֵּ֣ן בְּגַדְתֶּ֥ם בִּ֛י בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל נְאֻם־ יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ²¹ Une voix a été ouïe sur les hauteurs, les pleurs et les supplications des fils d'Israël ; car ils ont perverti leur voie, ils ont oublié l'Éternel, leur Dieu.

KJV ²¹ A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the LORD their God.

WLC ²¹ ק֚וֹל עַל־ שְׁפָיִ֣ים נִשְׁמָ֔ע בְּכִ֥י תַחֲנוּנֵ֖י בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כִּ֤י הֶעֱוּוּ֙ אֶת־ דַּרְכָּ֔ם שָׁכְח֖וּ אֶת־ יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵיהֶֽם׃

DRB ²² Revenez, fils infidèles ; je guérirai vos infidélités… Nous voici, nous venons à toi, car tu es l'Éternel, notre Dieu.

KJV ²² Return, ye backsliding children, and I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come unto thee; for thou art the LORD our God.

WLC ²² שׁ֚וּבוּ בָּנִ֣ים שׁוֹבָבִ֔ים אֶרְפָּ֖ה מְשׁוּבֹֽתֵיכֶ֑ם הִנְנוּ֙ אָתָ֣נוּ לָ֔ךְ כִּ֥י אַתָּ֖ה יְהֹוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֵֽינוּ׃

DRB ²³ Certainement, c'est en vain [qu'on s'attend] aux collines, à la multitude des montagnes ; certainement, c'est en l'Éternel, notre Dieu, qu'est le salut d'Israël.

KJV ²³ Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.

WLC ²³ אָכֵ֥ן לַשֶּׁ֛קֶר מִגְּבָע֖וֹת הָמ֣וֹן הָרִ֑ים אָכֵן֙ בַּיהֹוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ תְּשׁוּעַ֖ת יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

DRB ²⁴ Mais la honte* a dévoré dès notre jeunesse le travail de nos pères, leur menu bétail et leur gros bétail, leurs fils et leurs filles.

KJV ²⁴ For shame hath devoured the labour of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.

WLC ²⁴ וְהַבֹּ֗שֶׁת אָֽכְלָ֛ה אֶת־ יְגִ֥יעַ אֲבוֹתֵ֖ינוּ מִנְּעוּרֵ֑ינוּ אֶת־ צֹאנָם֙ וְאֶת־ בְּקָרָ֔ם אֶת־ בְּנֵיהֶ֖ם וְאֶת־ בְּנוֹתֵיהֶֽם׃

DRB ²⁵ Nous nous coucherons dans notre honte, et notre confusion nous couvre ; car nous avons péché contre l'Éternel, notre Dieu, nous et nos pères, dès notre jeunesse et jusqu'à ce jour, et nous n'avons pas écouté la voix de l'Éternel, notre Dieu.

KJV ²⁵ We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even unto this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.

DRB ¹ Si tu reviens, ô Israël, dit l'Éternel, reviens à moi ; et si tu ôtes tes abominations de devant moi, tu ne seras plus errant,

KJV ¹ If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove.

KJV ³ For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.

DRB ⁴ Circoncisez-vous pour l'Éternel, et ôtez le prépuce de vos cœurs, hommes de Juda et habitants de Jérusalem, de peur que ma fureur ne sorte comme un feu et ne brûle, sans qu'il y ait personne pour l'éteindre, à cause de l'iniquité de vos actions.

KJV ⁴ Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.

DRB ⁵ Annoncez en Juda, et faites entendre dans Jérusalem, et dites,… et sonnez de la trompette dans le pays ; criez à plein gosier et dites : Assemblez-vous, et entrons dans les villes fortes.

KJV ⁵ Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities.

WLC ⁵ הַגִּ֣ידוּ בִֽיהוּדָ֗ה וּבִירוּשָׁלִַ֙ם֙ הַשְׁמִ֔יעוּ וְאִמְר֕וּ שׁוֹפָ֖ר בָּאָ֑רֶץ קִרְא֤וּ מַלְאוּ֙ וְאִמְר֔וּ הֵאָסְפ֥וּ וְנָב֖וֹאָה אֶל־ עָרֵ֥י הַמִּבְצָֽר׃

DRB ⁶ Élevez l'étendard vers Sion, fuyez, et ne vous arrêtez pas ; car je fais venir du nord le mal et une grande ruine.

KJV ⁶ Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.

WLC ⁶ שְׂאוּ־ נֵ֣ס צִיּ֔וֹנָה הָעִ֖יזוּ אַֽל־ תַּעֲמֹ֑דוּ כִּ֣י רָעָ֗ה אָנֹכִ֛י מֵבִ֥יא מִצָּפ֖וֹן וְשֶׁ֥בֶר גָּדֽוֹל׃

DRB ⁷ Le lion est monté de son fourré, et le destructeur des nations s'est mis en chemin ; il est sorti de son lieu pour mettre ton pays en désolation : tes villes seront dévastées, de sorte qu'il n'y aura pas d'habitant.

KJV ⁷ The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

WLC ⁷ עָלָ֤ה אַרְיֵה֙ מִֽסֻּבְּכ֔וֹ וּמַשְׁחִ֣ית גּוֹיִ֔ם נָסַ֖ע יָצָ֣א מִמְּקֹמ֑וֹ לָשׂ֤וּם אַרְצֵךְ֙ לְשַׁמָּ֔ה עָרַ֥יִךְ תִּצֶּ֖ינָה מֵאֵ֥ין יוֹשֵֽׁב׃

DRB ⁸ C'est pourquoi ceignez-vous de sacs, lamentez-vous, et hurlez ; car l'ardeur de la colère de l'Éternel ne s'est point détournée de nous.

KJV ⁸ For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl: for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.

WLC ⁸ עַל־ זֹ֛את חִגְר֥וּ שַׂקִּ֖ים סִפְד֣וּ וְהֵילִ֑ילוּ כִּ֥י לֹא־ שָׁ֛ב חֲר֥וֹן אַף־ יְהֹוָ֖ה מִמֶּֽנּוּ׃

DRB ⁹ Et il arrivera en ce jour-là, dit l'Éternel, que le cœur du roi défaudra et le cœur des princes, et que les sacrificateurs seront étonnés, et les prophètes stupéfaits.

KJV ⁹ And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.

WLC ⁹ וְהָיָ֤ה בַיּוֹם־ הַהוּא֙ נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֔ה יֹאבַ֥ד לֵב־ הַמֶּ֖לֶךְ וְלֵ֣ב הַשָּׂרִ֑ים וְנָשַׁ֙מּוּ֙ הַכֹּ֣הֲנִ֔ים וְהַנְּבִיאִ֖ים יִתְמָֽהוּ׃

DRB ¹⁰ Et je dis : Ah, Seigneur Éternel ! certainement tu as bien trompé ce peuple et Jérusalem, en disant : Vous aurez la paix !… et l'épée est venue jusqu'à l'âme.

KJV ¹⁰ Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul.

WLC ¹⁰ וָאֹמַ֞ר אֲהָ֣הּ ׀ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהוִ֗ה אָכֵן֩ הַשֵּׁ֨א הִשֵּׁ֜אתָ לָעָ֤ם הַזֶּה֙ וְלִירוּשָׁלִַ֣ם לֵאמֹ֔ר שָׁל֖וֹם יִהְיֶ֣ה לָכֶ֑ם וְנָגְעָ֥ה חֶ֖רֶב עַד־ הַנָּֽפֶשׁ׃

DRB ¹¹ En ce temps-là, il sera dit à ce peuple et à Jérusalem : Un vent sec [vient] des hauteurs du désert, dans le chemin de la fille de mon peuple, non pour vanner, ni pour purifier.

KJV ¹¹ At that time shall it be said to this people and to Jerusalem, A dry wind of the high places in the wilderness toward the daughter of my people, not to fan, nor to cleanse,

WLC ¹¹ בָּעֵ֣ת הַהִ֗יא יֵאָמֵ֤ר לָֽעָם־ הַזֶּה֙ וְלִיר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם ר֣וּחַ צַ֤ח שְׁפָיִים֙ בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר דֶּ֖רֶךְ בַּת־ עַמִּ֑י ל֥וֹא לִזְר֖וֹת וְל֥וֹא לְהָבַֽר׃

DRB ¹² Un vent plus véhément que celui-là viendra de par moi ; maintenant, moi aussi je prononcerai [mes] jugements sur eux.

KJV ¹² Even a full wind from those places shall come unto me: now also will I give sentence against them.

WLC ¹² ר֧וּחַ מָלֵ֛א מֵאֵ֖לֶּה יָ֣בוֹא לִ֑י עַתָּ֕ה גַּם־ אֲנִ֛י אֲדַבֵּ֥ר מִשְׁפָּטִ֖ים אוֹתָֽם׃

DRB ¹³ Voici, il monte comme des nuées, et ses chars sont comme un tourbillon, ses chevaux, plus rapides que les aigles. Malheur à nous ! car nous sommes détruits.

KJV ¹³ Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are spoiled.

WLC ¹³ הִנֵּ֣ה ׀ כַּעֲנָנִ֣ים יַעֲלֶ֗ה וְכַסּוּפָה֙ מַרְכְּבוֹתָ֔יו קַלּ֥וּ מִנְּשָׁרִ֖ים סוּסָ֑יו א֥וֹי לָ֖נוּ כִּ֥י שֻׁדָּֽדְנוּ׃

DRB ¹⁴ Lave ton cœur de l'iniquité, Jérusalem, afin que tu sois sauvée ! Jusques à quand tes vaines pensées demeureront-elles au dedans de toi ?

KJV ¹⁴ O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee?

WLC ¹⁴ כַּבְּסִ֨י מֵרָעָ֤ה לִבֵּךְ֙ יְר֣וּשָׁלִַ֔ם לְמַ֖עַן תִּוָּשֵׁ֑עִי עַד־ מָתַ֛י תָּלִ֥ין בְּקִרְבֵּ֖ךְ מַחְשְׁב֥וֹת אוֹנֵֽךְ׃

DRB ¹⁵ Car une voix annonce de Dan, et, de la montagne d'Éphraïm, publie l'affliction.

KJV ¹⁵ For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth affliction from mount Ephraim.

WLC ¹⁵ כִּ֛י ק֥וֹל מַגִּ֖יד מִדָּ֑ן וּמַשְׁמִ֥יעַ אָ֖וֶן מֵהַ֥ר אֶפְרָֽיִם׃

DRB ¹⁶ Faites savoir aux nations ; voici, faites entendre à Jérusalem : Des assiégeants viennent d'un pays lointain et font retentir leur voix contre les villes de Juda.

KJV ¹⁶ Make ye mention to the nations; behold, publish against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.

DRB ¹⁷ Ils sont tout autour d'elle comme ceux qui gardent un champ ; car elle s'est rebellée contre moi, dit l'Éternel.

KJV ¹⁷ As keepers of a field, are they against her round about; because she hath been rebellious against me, saith the LORD.

WLC ¹⁷ כְּשֹׁמְרֵ֣י שָׂדַ֔י הָי֥וּ עָלֶ֖יהָ מִסָּבִ֑יב כִּי־ אֹתִ֥י מָרָ֖תָה נְאֻם־ יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ¹⁸ Ta voie et tes actions ont amené sur toi ces choses, c'est là ton iniquité ; oui, c'est [une chose] amère ; oui, elle pénètre jusqu'à ton cœur.

KJV ¹⁸ Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.

WLC ¹⁸ דַּרְכֵּךְ֙ וּמַ֣עֲלָלַ֔יִךְ עָשׂ֥וֹ אֵ֖לֶּה לָ֑ךְ זֹ֤את רָעָתֵךְ֙ כִּ֣י מָ֔ר כִּ֥י נָגַ֖ע עַד־ לִבֵּֽךְ׃

DRB ¹⁹ Mes entrailles ! mes entrailles ! je suis dans la douleur ! Les parois de mon cœur ! Mon cœur bruit au dedans de moi, je ne puis me taire ; car, mon âme, tu entends le son de la trompette, la clameur de la guerre !

KJV ¹⁹ My bowels, my bowels! I am pained at my very heart; my heart maketh a noise in me; I cannot hold my peace, because thou hast heard, O my soul, the sound of the trumpet, the alarm of war.

DRB ²⁰ Ruine sur ruine se fait entendre, car tout le pays est dévasté : soudain mes tentes sont dévastées, en un moment, mes courtines.

KJV ²⁰ Destruction upon destruction is cried; for the whole land is spoiled: suddenly are my tents spoiled, and my curtains in a moment.

DRB ²¹ Jusques à quand verrai-je l'étendard, entendrai-je la voix de la trompette ?

KJV ²¹ How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?

WLC ²¹ עַד־ מָתַ֖י אֶרְאֶה־ נֵּ֑ס אֶשְׁמְעָ֖ה ק֥וֹל שׁוֹפָֽר׃

DRB ²² Car mon peuple est fou, ils ne m'ont pas connu ; ce sont des fils insensés, ils n'ont pas d'intelligence ; ils sont sages* pour faire le mal, mais ils ne savent pas faire le bien.

KJV ²² For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

DRB ²⁷ Car ainsi dit l'Éternel : Tout le pays sera une désolation, mais je ne le détruirai pas entièrement*.

DRB ²⁹ Devant le bruit des cavaliers et des tireurs d'arc toute ville* fuit : ils entrent dans les fourrés et montent sur les rochers ; toute ville est abandonnée, et aucun homme n'y habite. Et toi, dévastée, que feras-tu ?

KJV ²⁹ The whole city shall flee for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen; they shall go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city shall be forsaken, and not a man dwell therein.

WLC ²⁹ מִקּ֨וֹל פָּרָ֜שׁ וְרֹ֣מֵה קֶ֗שֶׁת בֹּרַ֙חַת֙ כָּל־ הָעִ֔יר בָּ֚אוּ בֶּעָבִ֔ים וּבַכֵּפִ֖ים עָל֑וּ כָּל־ הָעִ֣יר עֲזוּבָ֔ה וְאֵין־ יוֹשֵׁ֥ב בָּהֵ֖ן אִֽישׁ׃

DRB ³⁰ Tu as beau te revêtir d'écarlate, te parer d'ornements d'or, te déchirer les yeux avec du fard, tu te fais belle en vain : les amants te méprisent, ils cherchent ta vie.

KJV ³⁰ And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.

DRB ³¹ Car j'ai entendu une voix comme celle d'une femme en travail, une angoisse comme d'une femme enfantant son premier-né, la voix de la fille de Sion ; elle soupire, elle étend ses mains : Malheur à moi ! car mon âme a défailli à cause des meurtriers !

KJV ³¹ For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, and the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands, saying, Woe is me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.

DRB ¹ Courez çà et là par les rues de Jérusalem, et regardez et sachez et cherchez dans ses places si vous trouvez un homme, s'il y a quelqu'un qui fasse ce qui est droit, qui cherche la fidélité, et je pardonnerai à la ville*.

KJV ¹ Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.

DRB ² Et s'ils disent : L'Éternel est vivant ! en cela même, ils jurent faussement.

KJV ² And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.

WLC ² וְאִ֥ם חַי־ יְהֹוָ֖ה יֹאמֵ֑רוּ לָכֵ֥ן לַשֶּׁ֖קֶר יִשָּׁבֵֽעוּ׃

DRB ³ Éternel ! tes yeux ne [regardent-ils] pas à la fidélité ? Tu les as frappés, mais ils n'en ont point ressenti de douleur ; tu les as consumés, ils ont refusé de recevoir la correction ; ils ont rendu leurs faces plus dures qu'un roc, ils ont refusé de revenir.

KJV ³ O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

WLC ³ יְהֹוָ֗ה עֵינֶיךָ֮ הֲל֣וֹא לֶאֱמוּנָה֒ הִכִּ֤יתָה אֹתָם֙ וְֽלֹא־ חָ֔לוּ כִּלִּיתָ֕ם מֵאֲנ֖וּ קַ֣חַת מוּסָ֑ר חִזְּק֤וּ פְנֵיהֶם֙ מִסֶּ֔לַע מֵאֲנ֖וּ לָשֽׁוּב׃

DRB ⁴ Et j'ai dit : Voilà, ce sont de pauvres gens, ce sont des fous ; car ils ne connaissent pas la voie de l'Éternel, le jugement de leur Dieu.

KJV ⁴ Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.

WLC ⁴ וַאֲנִ֣י אָמַ֔רְתִּי אַךְ־ דַּלִּ֖ים הֵ֑ם נוֹאֲל֕וּ כִּ֣י לֹ֤א יָדְעוּ֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יְהוָ֔ה מִשְׁפַּ֖ט אֱלֹהֵיהֶֽם׃

DRB ⁵ Je m'en irai vers les grands, et je leur parlerai ; car eux, ils connaissent la voie de l'Éternel, le jugement de leur Dieu ; mais ceux-ci, tous ensemble, ont* brisé le joug, rompu les liens.

KJV ⁵ I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

DRB ⁶ C'est pourquoi un lion de la forêt les frappera, un loup du soir les ravagera ; le léopard veille devant leurs villes, quiconque en sort est déchiré ; car leurs transgressions sont multipliées, leurs infidélités se sont renforcées.

KJV ⁶ Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.

DRB ⁷ Pourquoi te pardonnerai-je ? Tes fils m'ont abandonné, et ils jurent par ce qui n'est pas Dieu ; je les ai rassasiés*, et ils ont commis adultère, et sont allés en troupe dans la maison de la prostituée.

KJV ⁷ How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.

DRB ⁸ Chevaux bien nourris, ils courent çà et là, chacun hennit après la femme de son prochain.

KJV ⁸ They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife.

WLC ⁸ סוּסִ֥ים מְיֻזָּנִ֖ים מַשְׁכִּ֣ים הָי֑וּ אִ֛ישׁ אֶל־ אֵ֥שֶׁת רֵעֵ֖הוּ יִצְהָֽלוּ׃

DRB ⁹ Ne punirais-je pas de telles choses ? dit l'Éternel ; et mon âme ne se vengerait-elle pas d'une nation comme celle-là ?

KJV ⁹ Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

WLC ⁹ הַֽעַל־ אֵ֥לֶּה לוֹא־ אֶפְקֹ֖ד נְאֻם־ יְהֹוָ֑ה וְאִם֙ בְּג֣וֹי אֲשֶׁר־ כָּזֶ֔ה לֹ֥א תִתְנַקֵּ֖ם נַפְשִֽׁי׃

DRB ¹⁰ Montez sur ses murailles, et détruisez ! mais ne détruisez pas entièrement* ; ôtez ses créneaux**, car ils ne sont pas à l'Éternel ;

KJV ¹⁰ Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD's.

WLC ¹⁰ עֲל֤וּ בְשָׁרוֹתֶ֙יהָ֙ וְשַׁחֵ֔תוּ וְכָלָ֖ה אַֽל־ תַּעֲשׂ֑וּ הָסִ֙ירוּ֙ נְטִ֣ישׁוֹתֶ֔יהָ כִּ֛י ל֥וֹא לַיהוָ֖ה הֵֽמָּה׃

DRB ¹¹ car la maison d'Israël et la maison de Juda ont agi très perfidement envers moi, dit l'Éternel.

KJV ¹¹ For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.

WLC ¹¹ כִּי֩ בָג֨וֹד בָּגְד֜וּ בִּ֗י בֵּ֧ית יִשְׂרָאֵ֛ל וּבֵ֥ית יְהוּדָ֖ה נְאֻם־ יְהוָֽה׃

DRB ¹³ et les prophètes seront du vent, et la parole n'est pas en eux : ainsi leur sera-t-il fait.

KJV ¹³ And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.

DRB ¹⁵ Voici, je fais venir de loin une nation contre vous, maison d'Israël, dit l'Éternel, une nation puissante, une nation ancienne, une nation dont tu ne sais pas la langue, et dont tu ne comprends pas la parole.

KJV ¹⁵ Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.

DRB ¹⁶ Son carquois est comme un sépulcre ouvert, ils sont tous des hommes vaillants.

KJV ¹⁶ Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men.

WLC ¹⁶ אַשְׁפָּת֖וֹ כְּקֶ֣בֶר פָּת֑וּחַ כֻּלָּ֖ם גִּבּוֹרִֽים׃

DRB ¹⁷ Elle dévorera ta moisson et ton pain, elle dévorera tes fils et tes filles, elle dévorera ton menu et ton gros bétail, elle dévorera ta vigne et ton figuier, elle détruira par l'épée tes villes fortes sur lesquelles tu te confiais.

DRB ¹⁸ Mais, même en ces jours-là, dit l'Éternel, je ne vous détruirai pas entièrement*.

KJV ¹⁸ Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.

WLC ¹⁸ וְגַ֛ם בַּיָּמִ֥ים הָהֵ֖מָּה נְאֻם־ יְהֹוָ֑ה לֹֽא־ אֶעֱשֶׂ֥ה אִתְּכֶ֖ם כָּלָֽה׃

DRB ¹⁹ Et il arrivera que, quand vous direz : Pourquoi l'Éternel, notre Dieu, nous a-t-il fait toutes ces choses ? tu leur diras : Comme vous m'avez abandonné et que vous avez servi des dieux étrangers dans votre pays, ainsi vous servirez les étrangers dans un pays qui n'est pas le vôtre,

KJV ¹⁹ And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not your's.

WLC ¹⁹ וְהָיָה֙ כִּ֣י תֹאמְר֔וּ תַּ֣חַת מֶ֗ה עָשָׂ֨ה יְהֹוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֵ֛ינוּ לָ֖נוּ אֶת־ כָּל־ אֵ֑לֶּה וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר עֲזַבְתֶּ֤ם אוֹתִי֙ וַתַּעַבְד֞וּ אֱלֹהֵ֤י נֵכָר֙ בְּאַרְצְכֶ֔ם כֵּ֚ן תַּעַבְד֣וּ זָרִ֔ים בְּאֶ֖רֶץ לֹ֥א לָכֶֽם׃

DRB ²⁰ Annoncez ceci dans la maison de Jacob, et faites-le entendre dans Juda, disant :

KJV ²⁰ Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,

WLC ²⁰ הַגִּ֥ידוּ זֹ֖את בְּבֵ֣ית יַעֲקֹ֑ב וְהַשְׁמִיע֥וּהָ בִיהוּדָ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃

DRB ²¹ Écoutez pourtant ceci, peuple insensé et sans intelligence, qui avez des yeux et ne voyez pas, qui avez des oreilles et n'entendez pas.

KJV ²¹ Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:

WLC ²¹ שִׁמְעוּ־ נָ֣א זֹ֔את עַ֥ם סָכָ֖ל וְאֵ֣ין לֵ֑ב עֵינַ֤יִם לָהֶם֙ וְלֹ֣א יִרְא֔וּ אָזְנַ֥יִם לָהֶ֖ם וְלֹ֥א יִשְׁמָֽעוּ׃

DRB ²² Ne me craindrez-vous pas, dit l'Éternel, ne tremblerez-vous pas devant moi, qui ai mis le sable pour limite à la mer, statut perpétuel, qu'elle n'outrepassera pas ? Ses vagues se soulèvent, mais elles ne prévaudront pas ; et elles bruient, mais elles ne l'outrepasseront pas.

KJV ²² Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?

WLC ²² הַאוֹתִ֨י לֹא־ תִירָ֜אוּ נְאֻם־ יְהֹוָ֗ה אִ֤ם מִפָּנַי֙ לֹ֣א תָחִ֔ילוּ אֲשֶׁר־ שַׂ֤מְתִּי חוֹל֙ גְּב֣וּל לַיָּ֔ם חָק־ עוֹלָ֖ם וְלֹ֣א יַעַבְרֶ֑נְהוּ וַיִּֽתְגָּעֲשׁוּ֙ וְלֹ֣א יוּכָ֔לוּ וְהָמ֥וּ גַלָּ֖יו וְלֹ֥א יַעַבְרֻֽנְהוּ׃

DRB ²³ Mais ce peuple-ci a un cœur indocile et rebelle ; ils se sont détournés, et s'en sont allés ;

KJV ²³ But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.

WLC ²³ וְלָעָ֤ם הַזֶּה֙ הָיָ֔ה לֵ֖ב סוֹרֵ֣ר וּמוֹרֶ֑ה סָ֖רוּ וַיֵּלֵֽכוּ׃

DRB ²⁴ et ils n'ont pas dit dans leur cœur : Craignons pourtant l'Éternel, notre Dieu, qui donne les pluies en leur temps, la pluie de la première saison et la pluie de la dernière saison, [et] qui nous garde les semaines ordonnées de la moisson.

KJV ²⁴ Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.

WLC ²⁴ וְלֹֽא־ אָמְר֣וּ בִלְבָבָ֗ם נִ֤ירָא נָא֙ אֶת־ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ הַנֹּתֵ֗ן גֶּ֛שֶׁם וּמַלְק֖וֹשׁ בְּעִתּ֑וֹ שְׁבֻע֛וֹת חֻקּ֥וֹת קָצִ֖יר יִשְׁמָר־ לָֽנוּ׃

DRB ²⁵ Vos iniquités ont détourné ces choses, et vos péchés ont retenu de vous le bien.

KJV ²⁵ Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.

WLC ²⁵ עֲוֺנוֹתֵיכֶ֖ם הִטּוּ־ אֵ֑לֶּה וְחַטֹּ֣אותֵיכֶ֔ם מָנְע֥וּ הַטּ֖וֹב מִכֶּֽם׃

DRB ²⁶ Car il se trouve des méchants parmi mon peuple ; ils épient comme l'oiseleur qui se baisse, ils posent des pièges, ils prennent des hommes.

KJV ²⁶ For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.

WLC ²⁶ כִּי־ נִמְצְא֥וּ בְעַמִּ֖י רְשָׁעִ֑ים יָשׁוּר֙ כְּשַׁ֣ךְ יְקוּשִׁ֔ים הִצִּ֥יבוּ מַשְׁחִ֖ית אֲנָשִׁ֥ים יִלְכֹּֽדוּ׃

DRB ²⁷ Comme une cage est pleine d'oiseaux, ainsi leurs maisons sont pleines de fraude ; c'est pourquoi ils sont de venus grands et se sont enrichis.

KJV ²⁷ As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.

WLC ²⁷ כִּכְלוּב֙ מָ֣לֵא ע֔וֹף כֵּ֥ן בָּתֵּיהֶ֖ם מְלֵאִ֣ים מִרְמָ֑ה עַל־ כֵּ֥ן גָּדְל֖וּ וַֽיַּעֲשִֽׁירוּ׃

DRB ²⁸ Ils sont devenus gras et luisants, aussi ils débordent de méchancetés ; ils ne jugent pas la cause, la cause de l'orphelin, et ils prospèrent ; et ils ne font pas droit aux* pauvres.

KJV ²⁸ They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.

WLC ²⁸ שָׁמְנ֣וּ עָשְׁת֗וּ גַּ֚ם עָֽבְר֣וּ דִבְרֵי־ רָ֔ע דִּ֣ין לֹא־ דָ֔נוּ דִּ֥ין יָת֖וֹם וְיַצְלִ֑יחוּ וּמִשְׁפַּ֥ט אֶבְיוֹנִ֖ים לֹ֥א שָׁפָֽטוּ׃

DRB ²⁹ Ne punirais-je pas de telles choses ? dit l'Éternel ; mon âme ne se vengerait-elle pas d'une nation comme celle-là ?

KJV ²⁹ Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

WLC ²⁹ הַֽעַל־ אֵ֥לֶּה לֹֽא־ אֶפְקֹ֖ד נְאֻם־ יְהֹוָ֑ה אִ֚ם בְּג֣וֹי אֲשֶׁר־ כָּזֶ֔ה לֹ֥א תִתְנַקֵּ֖ם נַפְשִֽׁי׃

DRB ³⁰ Une chose étonnante et horrible est arrivée dans le pays :

KJV ³⁰ A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;

WLC ³⁰ שַׁמָּה֙ וְשַׁ֣עֲרוּרָ֔ה נִהְיְתָ֖ה בָּאָֽרֶץ׃

DRB ³¹ les prophètes prophétisent avec mensonge, et les sacrificateurs dominent par leur moyen* ; et mon peuple l'aime ainsi. Et que ferez-vous à la fin ?

KJV ³¹ The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?

WLC ³¹ הַנְּבִיאִ֞ים נִבְּא֣וּ־ בַשֶּׁ֗קֶר וְהַכֹּהֲנִים֙ יִרְדּ֣וּ עַל־ יְדֵיהֶ֔ם וְעַמִּ֖י אָ֣הֲבוּ כֵ֑ן וּמַֽה־ תַּעֲשׂ֖וּ לְאַחֲרִיתָֽהּ׃
