KJV ² To whom the word of the LORD came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign.

WLC ² אֲשֶׁ֨ר הָיָ֤ה דְבַר־ יְהוָה֙ אֵלָ֔יו בִּימֵ֛י יֹאשִׁיָּ֥הוּ בֶן־ אָמ֖וֹן מֶ֣לֶךְ יְהוּדָ֑ה בִּשְׁלֹשׁ־ עֶשְׂרֵ֥ה שָׁנָ֖ה לְמָלְכֽוֹ׃

KJV ³ It came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month.

S21 ³ ainsi que durant le règne de Jojakim, fils de Josias, sur Juda et jusqu'à la fin de la onzième année du règne de Sédécias, fils de Josias, sur Juda, jusqu'au cinquième mois, moment où les habitants de Jérusalem furent emmenés en exil.

KJV ⁴ Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

WLC ⁴ וַיְהִ֥י דְבַר־ יְהוָ֖ה אֵלַ֥י לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV ⁵ Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

S21 ⁵ «Avant de te former dans le ventre de ta mère, je te connaissais, et avant que tu naisses, je t'avais consacré, je t'avais désigné prophète pour les nations.»

WLC ⁵ בְּטֶ֨רֶם בַבֶּ֙טֶן֙ יְדַעְתִּ֔יךָ וּבְטֶ֛רֶם תֵּצֵ֥א מֵרֶ֖חֶם הִקְדַּשְׁתִּ֑יךָ נָבִ֥יא לַגּוֹיִ֖ם נְתַתִּֽיךָ׃

KJV ⁶ Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! behold, I cannot speak: for I am a child.

S21 ⁶ J'ai répondu: «Ah! Seigneur Eternel, je ne sais pas parler, car je suis trop jeune.»

WLC ⁶ וָאֹמַ֗ר אֲהָהּ֙ אֲדֹנָ֣י יְהֹוִ֔ה הִנֵּ֥ה לֹא־ יָדַ֖עְתִּי דַּבֵּ֑ר כִּי־ נַ֖עַר אָנֹֽכִי׃

KJV ⁷ But the LORD said unto me, Say not, I am a child: for thou shalt go to all that I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.

S21 ⁷ L'Eternel m'a dit: «Ne prétends pas que tu es trop jeune, car tu iras trouver tous ceux vers qui je t'enverrai et tu diras tout ce que je t'ordonnerai.

WLC ⁷ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֵלַ֔י אַל־ תֹּאמַ֖ר נַ֣עַר אָנֹ֑כִי כִּ֠י עַֽל־ כָּל־ אֲשֶׁ֤ר אֶֽשְׁלָחֲךָ֙ תֵּלֵ֔ךְ וְאֵ֛ת כָּל־ אֲשֶׁ֥ר אֲצַוְּךָ֖ תְּדַבֵּֽר׃

KJV ⁸ Be not afraid of their faces: for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith the LORD.

S21 ⁸ N'aie pas peur d'eux, car je suis moi-même avec toi pour te délivrer, déclare l'Eternel.»

WLC ⁸ אַל־ תִּירָ֖א מִפְּנֵיהֶ֑ם כִּֽי־ אִתְּךָ֥ אֲנִ֛י לְהַצִּלֶ֖ךָ נְאֻם־ יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ⁹ Then the LORD put forth his hand, and touched my mouth. And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.

S21 ⁹ Puis l'Eternel a tendu la main et a touché ma bouche avant d'ajouter: «J'ai mis mes paroles dans ta bouche.

WLC ⁹ וַיִּשְׁלַ֤ח יְהוָה֙ אֶת־ יָד֔וֹ וַיַּגַּ֖ע עַל־ פִּ֑י וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֵלַ֔י הִנֵּ֛ה נָתַ֥תִּי דְבָרַ֖י בְּפִֽיךָ׃

KJV ¹⁰ See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to root out, and to pull down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.

S21 ¹⁰ Vois, aujourd'hui je te confie une responsabilité envers les nations et les royaumes: celle d'arracher et de démolir, de faire disparaître et de détruire, de construire et de planter.»

WLC ¹⁰ רְאֵ֞ה הִפְקַדְתִּ֣יךָ ׀ הַיּ֣וֹם הַזֶּ֗ה עַל־ הַגּוֹיִם֙ וְעַל־ הַמַּמְלָכ֔וֹת לִנְת֥וֹשׁ וְלִנְת֖וֹץ וּלְהַאֲבִ֣יד וְלַהֲר֑וֹס לִבְנ֖וֹת וְלִנְטֽוֹעַ׃

KJV ¹¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond tree.

S21 ¹¹ La parole de l'Eternel m'a été adressée: «Que vois-tu, Jérémie?» J'ai répondu: «Je vois une branche d'amandier.»

WLC ¹¹ וַיְהִ֤י דְבַר־ יְהוָה֙ אֵלַ֣י לֵאמֹ֔ר מָה־ אַתָּ֥ה רֹאֶ֖ה יִרְמְיָ֑הוּ וָאֹמַ֕ר מַקֵּ֥ל שָׁקֵ֖ד אֲנִ֥י רֹאֶֽה׃

KJV ¹² Then said the LORD unto me, Thou hast well seen: for I will hasten my word to perform it.

S21 ¹² Et l'Eternel m'a dit: «Tu as bien vu, car je veille à ce que ma parole s'accomplisse.»

WLC ¹² וַיֹּ֧אמֶר יְהוָ֛ה אֵלַ֖י הֵיטַ֣בְתָּ לִרְא֑וֹת כִּֽי־ שֹׁקֵ֥ד אֲנִ֛י עַל־ דְּבָרִ֖י לַעֲשֹׂתֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹³ And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething pot; and the face thereof is toward the north.

S21 ¹³ La parole de l'Eternel m'a été adressée une deuxième fois: «Que vois-tu?» J'ai répondu: «Je vois une marmite bouillante. Son ouverture est orientée vers le nord.»

WLC ¹³ וַיְהִ֨י דְבַר־ יְהוָ֤ה ׀ אֵלַי֙ שֵׁנִ֣ית לֵאמֹ֔ר מָ֥ה אַתָּ֖ה רֹאֶ֑ה וָאֹמַ֗ר סִ֤יר נָפ֙וּחַ֙ אֲנִ֣י רֹאֶ֔ה וּפָנָ֖יו מִפְּנֵ֥י צָפֽוֹנָה׃

KJV ¹⁴ Then the LORD said unto me, Out of the north an evil shall break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.

S21 ¹⁴ Et l'Eternel m'a dit: «C'est du nord que le mal se déversera sur tous les habitants du pays.

WLC ¹⁴ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה אֵלָ֑י מִצָּפוֹן֙ תִּפָּתַ֣ח הָרָעָ֔ה עַ֥ל כָּל־ יֹשְׁבֵ֖י הָאָֽרֶץ׃

KJV ¹⁵ For, lo, I will call all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith the LORD; and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah.

S21 ¹⁵ En effet, je vais appeler tous les peuples des royaumes du nord, déclare l'Eternel. Ils viendront et ils placeront leur trône à l'entrée des portes de Jérusalem, tout autour de ses murailles, et contre toutes les villes de Juda.

WLC ¹⁵ כִּ֣י ׀ הִנְנִ֣י קֹרֵ֗א לְכָֽל־ מִשְׁפְּח֛וֹת מַמְלְכ֥וֹת צָפ֖וֹנָה נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֑ה וּבָ֡אוּ וְֽנָתְנוּ֩ אִ֨ישׁ כִּסְא֜וֹ פֶּ֣תַח ׀ שַׁעֲרֵ֣י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֗ם וְעַ֤ל כָּל־ חוֹמֹתֶ֙יהָ֙ סָבִ֔יב וְעַ֖ל כָּל־ עָרֵ֥י יְהוּדָֽה׃

KJV ¹⁶ And I will utter my judgments against them touching all their wickedness, who have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto other gods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.

S21 ¹⁶ Je prononcerai mes jugements contre eux à cause de toute leur méchanceté, parce qu'ils m'ont abandonné et ont fait brûler de l'encens en l'honneur d'autres dieux, parce qu'ils se sont prosternés devant ce que leurs mains avaient fabriqué.

WLC ¹⁶ וְדִבַּרְתִּ֤י מִשְׁפָּטַי֙ אוֹתָ֔ם עַ֖ל כָּל־ רָעָתָ֑ם אֲשֶׁ֣ר עֲזָב֗וּנִי וַֽיְקַטְּרוּ֙ לֵאלֹהִ֣ים אֲחֵרִ֔ים וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲו֖וּ לְמַעֲשֵׂ֥י יְדֵיהֶֽם׃

KJV ¹⁷ Thou therefore gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I command thee: be not dismayed at their faces, lest I confound thee before them.

S21 ¹⁷ »Quant à toi, tu attacheras ta ceinture autour de ta taille, tu te lèveras et tu leur diras tout ce que je t'ordonnerai. Ne tremble pas en leur présence, sinon je te ferai trembler devant eux.

WLC ¹⁷ וְאַתָּה֙ תֶּאְזֹ֣ר מָתְנֶ֔יךָ וְקַמְתָּ֙ וְדִבַּרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵיהֶ֔ם אֵ֛ת כָּל־ אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָנֹכִ֖י אֲצַוֶּ֑ךָּ אַל־ תֵּחַת֙ מִפְּנֵיהֶ֔ם פֶּֽן־ אֲחִתְּךָ֖ לִפְנֵיהֶֽם׃

KJV ¹⁸ For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

S21 ¹⁸ Aujourd'hui, j'ai fait de toi une ville fortifiée, une colonne de fer, un mur de bronze contre tout le pays: contre les rois de Juda, contre ses chefs, ses prêtres et la population du pays.

WLC ¹⁸ וַאֲנִ֞י הִנֵּ֧ה נְתַתִּ֣יךָ הַיּ֗וֹם לְעִ֨יר מִבְצָ֜ר וּלְעַמּ֥וּד בַּרְזֶ֛ל וּלְחֹמ֥וֹת נְחֹ֖שֶׁת עַל־ כָּל־ הָאָ֑רֶץ לְמַלְכֵ֤י יְהוּדָה֙ לְשָׂרֶ֔יהָ לְכֹהֲנֶ֖יהָ וּלְעַ֥ם הָאָֽרֶץ׃

KJV ¹⁹ And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the LORD, to deliver thee.

S21 ¹⁹ Ils te combattront, mais ils ne pourront rien faire contre toi, car je suis moi-même avec toi pour te délivrer, déclare l'Eternel.»

WLC ¹⁹ וְנִלְחֲמ֥וּ אֵלֶ֖יךָ וְלֹא־ י֣וּכְלוּ לָ֑ךְ כִּֽי־ אִתְּךָ֥ אֲנִ֛י נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֖ה לְהַצִּילֶֽךָ׃

KJV ¹ Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

KJV ² Go and cry in the ears of Jerusalem, saying, Thus saith the LORD; I remember thee, the kindness of thy youth, the love of thine espousals, when thou wentest after me in the wilderness, in a land that was not sown.

S21 ² «Va crier aux oreilles de Jérusalem:
‘Voici ce que dit l'Eternel:
Je me souviens de ton attachement de jeune fille,
de ton amour de jeune mariée.
Tu me suivais alors dans le désert,
sur une terre impossible à ensemencer.

WLC ² הָלֹ֡ךְ וְקָֽרָאתָ֩ בְאָזְנֵ֨י יְרוּשָׁלִַ֜ם לֵאמֹ֗ר כֹּ֚ה אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה זָכַ֤רְתִּי לָךְ֙ חֶ֣סֶד נְעוּרַ֔יִךְ אַהֲבַ֖ת כְּלוּלֹתָ֑יִךְ לֶכְתֵּ֤ךְ אַחֲרַי֙ בַּמִּדְבָּ֔ר בְּאֶ֖רֶץ לֹ֥א זְרוּעָֽה׃

KJV ³ Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase: all that devour him shall offend; evil shall come upon them, saith the LORD.

S21 ³ Israël était consacré à l'Eternel,
il était la première partie de sa récolte.
Tous ceux qui en mangeaient se rendaient coupables,
le malheur fondait sur eux, déclare l'Eternel.'

WLC ³ קֹ֤דֶשׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לַיהוָ֔ה רֵאשִׁ֖ית תְּבוּאָתֹ֑ה כָּל־ אֹכְלָ֣יו יֶאְשָׁ֔מוּ רָעָ֛ה תָּבֹ֥א אֲלֵיהֶ֖ם נְאֻם־ יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ⁴ Hear ye the word of the LORD, O house of Jacob, and all the families of the house of Israel:

S21 ⁴ »Ecoutez la parole de l'Eternel, famille de Jacob,
et vous tous, clans de la communauté d'Israël!

WLC ⁴ שִׁמְע֥וּ דְבַר־ יְהוָ֖ה בֵּ֣ית יַעֲקֹ֑ב וְכָֽל־ מִשְׁפְּח֖וֹת בֵּ֥ית יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁵ Thus saith the LORD, What iniquity have your fathers found in me, that they are gone far from me, and have walked after vanity, and are become vain?

S21 ⁵ Voici ce que dit l'Eternel:
Quelle injustice vos ancêtres ont-ils trouvée en moi
pour s'éloigner de moi
et suivre des idoles sans consistance au point de perdre eux-mêmes toute consistance?

WLC ⁵ כֹּ֣ה ׀ אָמַ֣ר יְהוָ֗ה מַה־ מָּצְא֨וּ אֲבוֹתֵיכֶ֥ם בִּי֙ עָ֔וֶל כִּ֥י רָחֲק֖וּ מֵעָלָ֑י וַיֵּֽלְכ֛וּ אַחֲרֵ֥י הַהֶ֖בֶל וַיֶּהְבָּֽלוּ׃

KJV ⁶ Neither said they, Where is the LORD that brought us up out of the land of Egypt, that led us through the wilderness, through a land of deserts and of pits, through a land of drought, and of the shadow of death, through a land that no man passed through, and where no man dwelt?

S21 ⁶ Ils n'ont pas dit: ‘Où est l'Eternel
qui nous a fait sortir d'Egypte,
qui nous a conduits dans le désert,
sur une terre aride et pleine de ravins,
sur une terre où règnent la sécheresse et l'ombre de la mort,
sur une terre par où personne ne passe
et où n'habite aucun homme?'

WLC ⁶ וְלֹ֣א אָמְר֔וּ אַיֵּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה הַמַּעֲלֶ֥ה אֹתָ֖נוּ מֵאֶ֣רֶץ מִצְרָ֑יִם הַמּוֹלִ֨יךְ אֹתָ֜נוּ בַּמִּדְבָּ֗ר בְּאֶ֨רֶץ עֲרָבָ֤ה וְשׁוּחָה֙ בְּאֶ֙רֶץ֙ צִיָּ֣ה וְצַלְמָ֔וֶת בְּאֶ֗רֶץ לֹֽא־ עָ֤בַר בָּהּ֙ אִ֔ישׁ וְלֹֽא־ יָשַׁ֥ב אָדָ֖ם שָֽׁם׃

KJV ⁷ And I brought you into a plentiful country, to eat the fruit thereof and the goodness thereof; but when ye entered, ye defiled my land, and made mine heritage an abomination.

S21 ⁷ »Je vous ai fait entrer dans un pays fertile
pour que vous mangiez les fruits et les bons produits qui s'y trouvent,
mais vous êtes venus et vous avez rendu mon pays impur,
vous avez fait de mon héritage une horreur.

WLC ⁷ וָאָבִ֤יא אֶתְכֶם֙ אֶל־ אֶ֣רֶץ הַכַּרְמֶ֔ל לֶאֱכֹ֥ל פִּרְיָ֖הּ וְטוּבָ֑הּ וַתָּבֹ֙אוּ֙ וַתְּטַמְּא֣וּ אֶת־ אַרְצִ֔י וְנַחֲלָתִ֥י שַׂמְתֶּ֖ם לְתוֹעֵבָֽה׃

KJV ⁸ The priests said not, Where is the LORD? and they that handle the law knew me not: the pastors also transgressed against me, and the prophets prophesied by Baal, and walked after things that do not profit.

S21 ⁸ Les prêtres n'ont pas dit:
‘Où est l'Eternel?'
Les spécialistes de la loi ne m'ont pas connu,
les bergers se sont révoltés contre moi,
les prophètes ont prophétisé au nom de Baal 
et ils ont couru après ce qui ne sert à rien.

WLC ⁸ הַכֹּהֲנִ֗ים לֹ֤א אָֽמְרוּ֙ אַיֵּ֣ה יְהוָ֔ה וְתֹפְשֵׂ֤י הַתּוֹרָה֙ לֹ֣א יְדָע֔וּנִי וְהָרֹעִ֖ים פָּ֣שְׁעוּ בִ֑י וְהַנְּבִיאִים֙ נִבְּא֣וּ בַבַּ֔עַל וְאַחֲרֵ֥י לֹֽא־ יוֹעִ֖לוּ הָלָֽכוּ׃

KJV ⁹ Wherefore I will yet plead with you, saith the LORD, and with your children's children will I plead.

S21 ⁹ »C'est pourquoi je veux encore lancer des accusations contre vous, déclare l'Eternel,
je veux aussi en lancer contre vos descendants.

WLC ⁹ לָכֵ֗ן עֹ֛ד אָרִ֥יב אִתְּכֶ֖ם נְאֻם־ יְהוָ֑ה וְאֶת־ בְּנֵ֥י בְנֵיכֶ֖ם אָרִֽיב׃

KJV ¹⁰ For pass over the isles of Chittim, and see; and send unto Kedar, and consider diligently, and see if there be such a thing.

S21 ¹⁰ Allez jusqu'aux îles de Kittim et regardez!
Envoyez quelqu'un à Kédar, observez bien
et regardez s'il est arrivé quelque chose de semblable!

WLC ¹⁰ כִּ֣י עִבְר֞וּ אִיֵּ֤י כִתִּיִּים֙ וּרְא֔וּ וְקֵדָ֛ר שִׁלְח֥וּ וְהִֽתְבּוֹנְנ֖וּ מְאֹ֑ד וּרְא֕וּ הֵ֥ן הָיְתָ֖ה כָּזֹֽאת׃

KJV ¹¹ Hath a nation changed their gods, which are yet no gods? but my people have changed their glory for that which doth not profit.

S21 ¹¹ Une nation a-t-elle déjà changé de dieux,
alors même que ce ne sont pas de vrais dieux?
Pourtant, mon peuple a échangé ce qui faisait sa gloire contre ce qui n'a aucune valeur!

WLC ¹¹ הַהֵימִ֥יר גּוֹי֙ אֱלֹהִ֔ים וְהֵ֖מָּה לֹ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים וְעַמִּ֛י הֵמִ֥יר כְּבוֹד֖וֹ בְּל֥וֹא יוֹעִֽיל׃

KJV ¹² Be astonished, O ye heavens, at this, and be horribly afraid, be ye very desolate, saith the LORD.

S21 ¹² »Ciel, sois-en consterné,
sois-en horrifié, atterré! déclare l'Eternel.

WLC ¹² שֹׁ֥מּוּ שָׁמַ֖יִם עַל־ זֹ֑את וְשַׂעֲר֛וּ חָרְב֥וּ מְאֹ֖ד נְאֻם־ יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ¹³ For my people have committed two evils; they have forsaken me the fountain of living waters, and hewed them out cisterns, broken cisterns, that can hold no water.

S21 ¹³ En effet, c'est un double mal que mon peuple a commis:
ils m'ont abandonné, moi qui suis une source d'eau vive,
pour se creuser des citernes,
des citernes fissurées qui ne retiennent pas l'eau.

WLC ¹³ כִּֽי־ שְׁתַּ֥יִם רָע֖וֹת עָשָׂ֣ה עַמִּ֑י אֹתִ֨י עָזְב֜וּ מְק֣וֹר ׀ מַ֣יִם חַיִּ֗ים לַחְצֹ֤ב לָהֶם֙ בֹּאר֔וֹת בֹּארֹת֙ נִשְׁבָּרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר לֹא־ יָכִ֖לוּ הַמָּֽיִם׃

KJV ¹⁴ Is Israel a servant? is he a homeborn slave? why is he spoiled?

S21 ¹⁴ »Israël est-il un esclave acheté ou né dans la maison?
Pourquoi est-il donc livré au pillage?

WLC ¹⁴ הַעֶ֙בֶד֙ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל אִם־ יְלִ֥יד בַּ֖יִת ה֑וּא מַדּ֖וּעַ הָיָ֥ה לָבַֽז׃

KJV ¹⁵ The young lions roared upon him, and yelled, and they made his land waste: his cities are burned without inhabitant.

S21 ¹⁵ Contre lui les lionceaux rugissent, poussent leurs cris,
et ils dévastent son pays;
ses villes sont brûlées, il n'y a plus d'habitants.

KJV ³⁴ Also in thy skirts is found the blood of the souls of the poor innocents: I have not found it by secret search, but upon all these.

KJV ¹ They say, If a man put away his wife, and she go from him, and become another man's, shall he return unto her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.

Le pays lui-même ne serait-il pas souillé?

KJV ² Lift up thine eyes unto the high places, and see where thou hast not been lien with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy whoredoms and with thy wickedness.

KJV ³ Therefore the showers have been withholden, and there hath been no latter rain; and thou hadst a whore's forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed.

KJV ⁵ Will he reserve his anger for ever? will he keep it to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldest.

KJV ⁷ And I said after she had done all these things, Turn thou unto me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw it.

KJV ⁸ And I saw, when for all the causes whereby backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.

KJV ⁹ And it came to pass through the lightness of her whoredom, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.

KJV ¹⁰ And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned unto me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD.

KJV ¹¹ And the LORD said unto me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.

KJV ¹² Go and proclaim these words toward the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; and I will not cause mine anger to fall upon you: for I am merciful, saith the LORD, and I will not keep anger for ever.

‘Reviens, infidèle Israël! déclare l'Eternel.
Je ne jetterai pas un regard sévère sur vous,
car moi, je suis fidèle, déclare l'Eternel.

KJV ¹³ Only acknowledge thine iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD.

Oui, tu t'es révoltée contre l'Eternel, ton Dieu.

KJV ¹⁴ Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married unto you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:

KJV ¹⁵ And I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.

KJV ¹⁶ And it shall come to pass, when ye be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit it; neither shall that be done any more.

S21 ¹⁶ »Lorsque vous serez devenus nombreux et aurez eu des enfants dans le pays, alors, déclare l'Eternel, on ne parlera plus de l'arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel. Elle ne viendra plus à la pensée, on ne se souviendra plus d'elle, on ne s'apercevra plus de son absence et l'on n'en fera pas une autre.

KJV ¹⁷ At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered unto it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem: neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.

KJV ²¹ A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping and supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, and they have forgotten the LORD their God.

KJV ²³ Truly in vain is salvation hoped for from the hills, and from the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God is the salvation of Israel.

Sinon, ma colère éclatera comme un feu

KJV ⁵ Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities.

KJV ⁶ Set up the standard toward Zion: retire, stay not: for I will bring evil from the north, and a great destruction.

KJV ⁷ The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.

le destructeur des nations est en marche, il est sorti de chez lui
pour dévaster ton pays.
Tes villes tomberont en ruine, il n'y aura plus d'habitants.»

KJV ⁸ For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl: for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.

KJV ⁹ And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder.

KJV ¹⁰ Then said I, Ah, Lord GOD! surely thou hast greatly deceived this people and Jerusalem, saying, Ye shall have peace; whereas the sword reacheth unto the soul.

S21 ¹⁰ J'ai dit: «Ah! Seigneur Eternel!
Vraiment, tu as bien trompé ce peuple et Jérusalem lorsque tu as dit:
‘Vous aurez la paix!'
alors que l'épée est prête à frapper leur vie.»

sur le chemin de la fille de mon peuple,

KJV ¹² Even a full wind from those places shall come unto me: now also will I give sentence against them.

KJV ¹³ Behold, he shall come up as clouds, and his chariots shall be as a whirlwind: his horses are swifter than eagles. Woe unto us! for we are spoiled.

KJV ¹⁵ For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth affliction from mount Ephraim.

KJV ¹⁶ Make ye mention to the nations; behold, publish against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah.

ils font retentir leur voix contre les villes de Juda.

KJV ¹⁷ As keepers of a field, are they against her round about; because she hath been rebellious against me, saith the LORD.

KJV ¹⁸ Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.

S21 ¹⁸ Voilà où t'ont amenée ta conduite et tes agissements,
voilà ce qui cause ton malheur.
Oui, c'est une source d'amertume, cela te va droit au cœur.»

KJV ²¹ How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?

KJV ²² For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge.

S21 ²² «C'est que mon peuple est fou, il ne me connaît pas.
Ce sont des enfants stupides, dépourvus d'intelligence.
Ils sont habiles pour faire le mal,
mais ils ne savent pas faire le bien.»

KJV ²⁶ I beheld, and, lo, the fruitful place was a wilderness, and all the cities thereof were broken down at the presence of the LORD, and by his fierce anger.

toutes ses villes ont été démolies

KJV ²⁷ For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.

KJV ²⁸ For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black; because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it.

En effet je l'ai dit, j'y ai réfléchi,
je ne le regrette pas et je ne reviendrai pas en arrière.»

KJV ²⁹ The whole city shall flee for the noise of the horsemen and bowmen; they shall go into thickets, and climb up upon the rocks: every city shall be forsaken, and not a man dwell therein.

S21 ²⁹ Au bruit des cavaliers et des archers, toute la ville est en fuite.
On se réfugie dans les buissons, on monte sur les rochers.
Toute la ville est abandonnée, il n'y a plus d'habitants.

WLC ²⁹ מִקּ֨וֹל פָּרָ֜שׁ וְרֹ֣מֵה קֶ֗שֶׁת בֹּרַ֙חַת֙ כָּל־ הָעִ֔יר בָּ֚אוּ בֶּעָבִ֔ים וּבַכֵּפִ֖ים עָל֑וּ כָּל־ הָעִ֣יר עֲזוּבָ֔ה וְאֵין־ יוֹשֵׁ֥ב בָּהֵ֖ן אִֽישׁ׃

KJV ³⁰ And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.

S21 ³⁰ Et toi qui seras anéantie, que fais-tu?
Tu t'habilles de cramoisi,
tu te pares de bijoux en or,
tu mets du fard à tes yeux!
C'est inutilement que tu te fais belle:
tes amants te méprisent,
ils en veulent à ta vie.

KJV ³¹ For I have heard a voice as of a woman in travail, and the anguish as of her that bringeth forth her first child, the voice of the daughter of Zion, that bewaileth herself, that spreadeth her hands, saying, Woe is me now! for my soul is wearied because of murderers.

S21 ³¹ Oui, j'entends des cris pareils à ceux d'une femme prête à accoucher,
des cris d'angoisse pareils à ceux d'une femme qui met son premier enfant au monde.
C'est la voix de la fille de Sion; elle suffoque, elle tend ses mains:
«Malheureuse que je suis! Je m'effondre face aux meurtriers!»

KJV ¹ Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.

regardez, je vous en prie, et informez-vous,
cherchez sur ses places s'il s'y trouve un homme,
s'il y a quelqu'un qui pratique la justice,
qui cherche à être fidèle,

KJV ² And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.

S21 ² S'ils disent: ‘L'Eternel est vivant',
c'est de façon hypocrite qu'ils prêtent serment.»

WLC ² וְאִ֥ם חַי־ יְהֹוָ֖ה יֹאמֵ֑רוּ לָכֵ֥ן לַשֶּׁ֖קֶר יִשָּׁבֵֽעוּ׃

KJV ³ O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.

S21 ³ «Eternel, tes yeux ne cherchent-ils pas la fidélité?
Tu les as frappés et ils n'ont rien senti.
Tu as voulu en finir avec eux et ils n'ont pas voulu tenir compte de la correction.
Ils sont devenus plus durs que la pierre,
ils ont refusé de changer d'attitude.

WLC ³ יְהֹוָ֗ה עֵינֶיךָ֮ הֲל֣וֹא לֶאֱמוּנָה֒ הִכִּ֤יתָה אֹתָם֙ וְֽלֹא־ חָ֔לוּ כִּלִּיתָ֕ם מֵאֲנ֖וּ קַ֣חַת מוּסָ֑ר חִזְּק֤וּ פְנֵיהֶם֙ מִסֶּ֔לַע מֵאֲנ֖וּ לָשֽׁוּב׃

KJV ⁴ Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.

‘C'est sûrement parce que ce sont de petites gens
qu'ils ont ce comportement fou,
parce qu'ils ne connaissent pas la voie de l'Eternel,
les exigences de leur Dieu.

WLC ⁴ וַאֲנִ֣י אָמַ֔רְתִּי אַךְ־ דַּלִּ֖ים הֵ֑ם נוֹאֲל֕וּ כִּ֣י לֹ֤א יָדְעוּ֙ דֶּ֣רֶךְ יְהוָ֔ה מִשְׁפַּ֖ט אֱלֹהֵיהֶֽם׃

KJV ⁵ I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.

S21 ⁵ J'irai donc vers les grands et je leur parlerai,
car eux, ils connaissent la voie de l'Eternel,
les exigences de leur Dieu.'
Mais tous ensemble, ils se sont révoltés contre cette autorité,

KJV ⁶ Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.

le loup du désert les décime.
La panthère est aux aguets devant leurs villes,

KJV ⁷ How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.

Tes enfants m'ont abandonné,
ils font des serments au nom de dieux qui n'en sont pas.
J'ai pourvu à leurs besoins et eux, ils se livrent à l'adultère,

WLC ⁷ אֵ֤י לָזֹאת֙ לָ֔ךְ בָּנַ֣יִךְ עֲזָב֔וּנִי וַיִּשָּׁבְע֖וּ בְּלֹ֣א אֱלֹהִ֑ים וָאַשְׂבִּ֤עַ אוֹתָם֙ וַיִּנְאָ֔פוּ וּבֵ֥ית זוֹנָ֖ה יִתְגֹּדָֽדוּ׃

KJV ⁸ They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour's wife.

chacun hennit après la femme de son prochain.

KJV ⁹ Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

S21 ⁹ N'interviendrai-je pas contre un tel comportement, déclare l'Eternel,
ne me vengerai-je pas d'une pareille nation?

WLC ⁹ הַֽעַל־ אֵ֥לֶּה לוֹא־ אֶפְקֹ֖ד נְאֻם־ יְהֹוָ֑ה וְאִם֙ בְּג֣וֹי אֲשֶׁר־ כָּזֶ֔ה לֹ֥א תִתְנַקֵּ֖ם נַפְשִֽׁי׃

KJV ¹⁰ Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they are not the LORD's.

S21 ¹⁰ »Montez sur ses murailles et abattez-les,
mais ne la détruisez pas entièrement!
Enlevez ses sarments,
car ils n'appartiennent pas à l'Eternel!

WLC ¹⁰ עֲל֤וּ בְשָׁרוֹתֶ֙יהָ֙ וְשַׁחֵ֔תוּ וְכָלָ֖ה אַֽל־ תַּעֲשׂ֑וּ הָסִ֙ירוּ֙ נְטִ֣ישׁוֹתֶ֔יהָ כִּ֛י ל֥וֹא לַיהוָ֖ה הֵֽמָּה׃

KJV ¹¹ For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.

KJV ¹² They have belied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:

S21 ¹² Ils ont renié l'Eternel, ils ont dit: ‘Il n'existe pas,
et le malheur ne nous atteindra pas.
Nous ne verrons ni l'épée ni la famine.

WLC ¹² כִּֽחֲשׁוּ֙ בַּיהוָ֔ה וַיֹּאמְר֖וּ לֹא־ ה֑וּא וְלֹא־ תָב֤וֹא עָלֵ֙ינוּ֙ רָעָ֔ה וְחֶ֥רֶב וְרָעָ֖ב ל֥וֹא נִרְאֶֽה׃

KJV ¹³ And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.

KJV ¹⁴ Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.

KJV ¹⁵ Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it is a mighty nation, it is an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.

communauté d'Israël, déclare l'Eternel.
C'est une nation stable, une nation ancienne,
une nation dont tu ne connais pas la langue
et dont tu ne comprendras pas les paroles.

KJV ¹⁶ Their quiver is as an open sepulchre, they are all mighty men.

KJV ¹⁷ And they shall eat up thine harvest, and thy bread, which thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thine herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig trees: they shall impoverish thy fenced cities, wherein thou trustedst, with the sword.

elle dévorera tes fils et tes filles,
elle dévorera ton petit et ton gros bétail,
elle dévorera ta vigne et ton figuier,
elle abattra par l'épée tes villes fortifiées,
celles-là mêmes dans lesquelles tu places ta confiance.

KJV ¹⁸ Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.

S21 ¹⁸ »Mais même durant ces jours-là, déclare l'Eternel, je ne vous détruirai pas entièrement,

WLC ¹⁸ וְגַ֛ם בַּיָּמִ֥ים הָהֵ֖מָּה נְאֻם־ יְהֹוָ֑ה לֹֽא־ אֶעֱשֶׂ֥ה אִתְּכֶ֖ם כָּלָֽה׃

KJV ¹⁹ And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not your's.

S21 ¹⁹ et lorsque vous demanderez: ‘Pourquoi l'Eternel, notre Dieu, nous a-t-il fait tout cela?' tu leur répondras: ‘Puisque vous m'avez abandonné et avez servi des dieux étrangers dans votre pays, vous servirez des étrangers dans un pays qui n'est pas le vôtre.'

WLC ¹⁹ וְהָיָה֙ כִּ֣י תֹאמְר֔וּ תַּ֣חַת מֶ֗ה עָשָׂ֨ה יְהֹוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֵ֛ינוּ לָ֖נוּ אֶת־ כָּל־ אֵ֑לֶּה וְאָמַרְתָּ֣ אֲלֵיהֶ֗ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר עֲזַבְתֶּ֤ם אוֹתִי֙ וַתַּעַבְד֞וּ אֱלֹהֵ֤י נֵכָר֙ בְּאַרְצְכֶ֔ם כֵּ֚ן תַּעַבְד֣וּ זָרִ֔ים בְּאֶ֖רֶץ לֹ֥א לָכֶֽם׃

KJV ²⁰ Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,

proclamez-le en Juda:

WLC ²⁰ הַגִּ֥ידוּ זֹ֖את בְּבֵ֣ית יַעֲקֹ֑ב וְהַשְׁמִיע֥וּהָ בִיהוּדָ֖ה לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV ²¹ Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:

S21 ²¹ ‘Ecoutez ceci, peuple stupide et sans cœur!'
*Ils ont des yeux, mais ils ne voient pas;
ils ont des oreilles, mais ils n'entendent pas. 

WLC ²¹ שִׁמְעוּ־ נָ֣א זֹ֔את עַ֥ם סָכָ֖ל וְאֵ֣ין לֵ֑ב עֵינַ֤יִם לָהֶם֙ וְלֹ֣א יִרְא֔וּ אָזְנַ֥יִם לָהֶ֖ם וְלֹ֥א יִשְׁמָֽעוּ׃

KJV ²² Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?

S21 ²² Ne me respecterez-vous pas, déclare l'Eternel,
ne tremblerez-vous pas devant moi?
C'est moi qui ai donné à la mer le sable pour limite,
barrière immuable qu'elle ne doit pas franchir.
Ses vagues s'agitent, mais elles sont impuissantes.
Elles grondent mais ne la franchissent pas.

WLC ²² הַאוֹתִ֨י לֹא־ תִירָ֜אוּ נְאֻם־ יְהֹוָ֗ה אִ֤ם מִפָּנַי֙ לֹ֣א תָחִ֔ילוּ אֲשֶׁר־ שַׂ֤מְתִּי חוֹל֙ גְּב֣וּל לַיָּ֔ם חָק־ עוֹלָ֖ם וְלֹ֣א יַעַבְרֶ֑נְהוּ וַיִּֽתְגָּעֲשׁוּ֙ וְלֹ֣א יוּכָ֔לוּ וְהָמ֥וּ גַלָּ֖יו וְלֹ֥א יַעַבְרֻֽנְהוּ׃

KJV ²³ But this people hath a revolting and a rebellious heart; they are revolted and gone.

S21 ²³ »Ce peuple a un cœur rebelle et désobéissant.
Ils se détournent et s'en vont.

WLC ²³ וְלָעָ֤ם הַזֶּה֙ הָיָ֔ה לֵ֖ב סוֹרֵ֣ר וּמוֹרֶ֑ה סָ֖רוּ וַיֵּלֵֽכוּ׃

KJV ²⁴ Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest.

S21 ²⁴ Ils ne se disent pas:
‘Respectons l'Eternel, notre Dieu,
qui donne la pluie au moment voulu,
les premières et les dernières pluies,
et qui nous maintient l'ordre des semaines en vue de la moisson.'

WLC ²⁴ וְלֹֽא־ אָמְר֣וּ בִלְבָבָ֗ם נִ֤ירָא נָא֙ אֶת־ יְהוָ֣ה אֱלֹהֵ֔ינוּ הַנֹּתֵ֗ן גֶּ֛שֶׁם וּמַלְק֖וֹשׁ בְּעִתּ֑וֹ שְׁבֻע֛וֹת חֻקּ֥וֹת קָצִ֖יר יִשְׁמָר־ לָֽנוּ׃

KJV ²⁵ Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.

S21 ²⁵ »Ce sont vos fautes qui ont déréglé cet ordre,
ce sont vos péchés qui vous privent de ces biens.

WLC ²⁵ עֲוֺנוֹתֵיכֶ֖ם הִטּוּ־ אֵ֑לֶּה וְחַטֹּ֣אותֵיכֶ֔ם מָנְע֥וּ הַטּ֖וֹב מִכֶּֽם׃

KJV ²⁶ For among my people are found wicked men: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.

S21 ²⁶ En effet, il y a parmi mon peuple des méchants:
ils sont aux aguets, comme celui qui se baisse après avoir dressé des pièges,
ils tendent des filets et capturent des hommes.

WLC ²⁶ כִּי־ נִמְצְא֥וּ בְעַמִּ֖י רְשָׁעִ֑ים יָשׁוּר֙ כְּשַׁ֣ךְ יְקוּשִׁ֔ים הִצִּ֥יבוּ מַשְׁחִ֖ית אֲנָשִׁ֥ים יִלְכֹּֽדוּ׃

KJV ²⁷ As a cage is full of birds, so are their houses full of deceit: therefore they are become great, and waxen rich.

S21 ²⁷ Tout comme une cage est remplie d'oiseaux,
leurs maisons sont remplies de fraude.
C'est pourquoi ils sont devenus puissants et riches.

WLC ²⁷ כִּכְלוּב֙ מָ֣לֵא ע֔וֹף כֵּ֥ן בָּתֵּיהֶ֖ם מְלֵאִ֣ים מִרְמָ֑ה עַל־ כֵּ֥ן גָּדְל֖וּ וַֽיַּעֲשִֽׁירוּ׃

KJV ²⁸ They are waxen fat, they shine: yea, they overpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.

S21 ²⁸ Ils s'engraissent, ils sont gros.
Ils dépassent toute mesure dans le mal.
Ils n'exercent pas le droit, le droit de l'orphelin, et ils prospèrent;
ils ne font pas justice aux plus pauvres.

WLC ²⁸ שָׁמְנ֣וּ עָשְׁת֗וּ גַּ֚ם עָֽבְר֣וּ דִבְרֵי־ רָ֔ע דִּ֣ין לֹא־ דָ֔נוּ דִּ֥ין יָת֖וֹם וְיַצְלִ֑יחוּ וּמִשְׁפַּ֥ט אֶבְיוֹנִ֖ים לֹ֥א שָׁפָֽטוּ׃

KJV ²⁹ Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?

S21 ²⁹ »N'interviendrai-je pas contre un tel comportement, déclare l'Eternel,
ne me vengerai-je pas d'une pareille nation?

WLC ²⁹ הַֽעַל־ אֵ֥לֶּה לֹֽא־ אֶפְקֹ֖ד נְאֻם־ יְהֹוָ֑ה אִ֚ם בְּג֣וֹי אֲשֶׁר־ כָּזֶ֔ה לֹ֥א תִתְנַקֵּ֖ם נַפְשִֽׁי׃

KJV ³⁰ A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;

S21 ³⁰ Des choses ahurissantes et horribles
se font dans le pays.

WLC ³⁰ שַׁמָּה֙ וְשַׁ֣עֲרוּרָ֔ה נִהְיְתָ֖ה בָּאָֽרֶץ׃

KJV ³¹ The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?

S21 ³¹ Les prophètes ne prophétisent que des faussetés,
les prêtres gouvernent pour leurs propres intérêts
et mon peuple prend plaisir à cela.
Que ferez-vous face à ce qui vient?

WLC ³¹ הַנְּבִיאִ֞ים נִבְּא֣וּ־ בַשֶּׁ֗קֶר וְהַכֹּהֲנִים֙ יִרְדּ֣וּ עַל־ יְדֵיהֶ֔ם וְעַמִּ֖י אָ֣הֲבוּ כֵ֑ן וּמַֽה־ תַּעֲשׂ֖וּ לְאַחֲרִיתָֽהּ׃
