KJV ¹ And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying,

MAR ¹ Puis la parole de l'Eternel fut [adressée] à Jonas une seconde fois, en disant :

KJV ² Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

MAR ² Lève-toi, et t'en va à Ninive la grande ville ; et y publie à haute voix ce que je t'ordonne.

KJV ³ So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.

MAR ³ Jonas donc se leva, et s'en alla à Ninive, suivant la parole de l'Eternel. Or Ninive était une très-grande ville, de trois journées de chemin.

KJV ⁴ And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

MAR ⁴ Et Jonas commença d'entrer dans la ville le chemin d'une journée, et il cria et dit : Encore quarante jours, et Ninive sera renversée.

KJV ⁵ So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

MAR ⁵ Et les hommes de Ninive crurent à Dieu, et publièrent le jeûne, et se vêtirent de sacs, depuis le plus grand d'entre eux jusqu'au plus petit.

KJV ⁶ For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

MAR ⁶ Car cette parole était parvenue jusqu'au Roi de Ninive, lequel se leva de son trône, et ôta de dessus soi son vêtement magnifique, et se couvrit d'un sac, et s'assit sur la cendre.

KJV ⁷ And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:

MAR ⁷ Puis il fit faire une proclamation, et on publia dans Ninive par le décret du Roi et de ses Princes, en disant : Que ni homme, ni bête, ni boeuf, ni brebis, ne goûtent d'aucune chose, qu'ils ne se repaissent point, et qu'ils ne boivent point d'eau.

KJV ⁸ But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.

MAR ⁸ Et que les hommes soient couverts de sacs, et les bêtes aussi ; et qu'ils crient à Dieu de toute leur force, et que chacun se convertisse de sa mauvaise voie, et des actions violentes qu'ils ont commises.

KJV ⁹ Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

MAR ⁹ Qui sait si Dieu viendra à se repentir, et s'il se détournera de l'ardeur de sa colère, en sorte que nous ne périssions point.

KJV ¹⁰ And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

MAR ¹⁰ Et Dieu regarda à ce qu'ils avaient fait, [savoir] comment ils s'étaient détournés de leur mauvaise voie, et Dieu se repentit du mal qu'il avait dit qu'il leur ferait, et ne le fit point.

KJV ¹ But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry.

MAR ¹ Mais cela déplut à Jonas, il lui déplut extrêmement, et il en fut en colère.

KJV ² And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest thee of the evil.

MAR ² C'est pourquoi il fit [cette] requête à l'Eternel, et dit : Ô Eternel ! je te prie, n'est-ce pas ici ce que je disais, quand j'étais encore en mon pays ? C'est pourquoi j'avais voulu m'enfuir en Tarsis ; car je connaissais que tu es un [Dieu] Fort, miséricordieux, pitoyable, tardif à colère, abondant en gratuité, et qui te repens du mal [dont tu as menacé].

KJV ³ Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live.

MAR ³ Maintenant donc, ô Eternel ! ôte-moi, je te prie, la vie ; car la mort m'est meilleure que la vie.

KJV ⁴ Then said the LORD, Doest thou well to be angry?

MAR ⁴ Et l'Eternel dit : Est-ce bien fait à toi de t'être [ainsi] mis en colère ?

KJV ⁵ So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city.

MAR ⁵ Et Jonas sortit de la ville, et s'assit du côté de l'Orient de la ville, et se fit là une cabane, et se tint à l'ombre sous elle, jusqu'à ce qu'il vît ce qui arriverait à la ville.

KJV ⁶ And the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd.

MAR ⁶ Et l'Eternel Dieu prépara un kikajon, et le fit croître au-dessus de Jonas, afin qu'il lui fît ombre sur sa tête, et qu'il le délivrât de son mal ; et Jonas se réjouit extrêmement du kikajon.

KJV ⁷ But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.

MAR ⁷ Puis Dieu prépara pour le lendemain, lorsque l'aube du jour monterait, un ver qui frappa le kikajon, et il sécha.

KJV ⁸ And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live.

MAR ⁸ Et il arriva que quand le soleil fut levé Dieu prépara un vent Oriental qu'on n'apercevait point, et le soleil frappa sur la tête de Jonas, en sorte que s'évanouissant il demanda de mourir, et il dit : La mort m'est meilleure que la vie.

KJV ⁹ And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And he said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.

MAR ⁹ Et Dieu dit à Jonas : Est-ce bien fait à toi de t'être ainsi dépité au sujet de ce kikajon ? Et il répondit : C'est bien fait à moi que je me sois ainsi dépité, [même] jusqu'à la mort.

KJV ¹⁰ Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night:

MAR ¹⁰ Et l'Eternel dit : [Tu voudrais] qu'on eût épargné le kikajon, pour lequel tu n'as point travaillé, et que tu n'as point fait croître ; car il est venu en une nuit, et en une nuit il est péri ;

KJV ¹¹ And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more then sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

MAR ¹¹ Et moi, n'épargnerais-je point Ninive, cette grande ville, dans laquelle il y a plus de six vingt mille créatures humaines qui ne savent point [discerner] entre leur main droite et leur main gauche, et où il y a aussi une grande quantité de bêtes.
