   ¹ Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse, disant : ² Parle aux fils d'Israël, et dis-leur : Moi, je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu. ³ Vous ne ferez pas ce qui se fait dans le pays d'Égypte où vous avez habité, et vous ne ferez pas ce qui se fait dans le pays de Canaan où je vous fais entrer, et vous ne marcherez pas selon leurs coutumes. ⁴ Vous pratiquerez mes ordonnances*, et vous garderez mes statuts pour y marcher. Moi, je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu. ⁵ Et vous garderez mes statuts et mes ordonnances, par lesquels, s'il les pratique, un homme vivra. Moi, je suis l'Éternel.
   ⁶ Nul homme ne s'approchera de sa proche parente, pour découvrir sa nudité. Moi, je suis l'Éternel. ⁷ Tu ne découvriras point la nudité de ton père, ni la nudité de ta mère : c'est ta mère ; tu ne découvriras point sa nudité. ⁸ Tu ne découvriras point la nudité de la femme de ton père ; c'est la nudité de ton père. ⁹ La nudité de ta sœur, fille de ton père ou fille de ta mère, née dans la maison ou née au dehors, - sa nudité, tu ne la découvriras point. ¹⁰ La nudité de la fille de ton fils ou de la fille de ta fille, - sa nudité, tu ne la découvriras point ; car c'est ta nudité. ¹¹ La nudité de la fille de la femme de ton père, née de ton père, - c'est ta sœur : tu ne découvriras point sa nudité. ¹² Tu ne découvriras point la nudité de la sœur de ton père ; elle est propre chair de ton père. ¹³ Tu ne découvriras point la nudité de la sœur de ta mère ; car elle est propre chair de ta mère. ¹⁴ Tu ne découvriras point la nudité du frère de ton père ; tu ne t'approcheras point de sa femme : elle est ta tante. ¹⁵ Tu ne découvriras point la nudité de ta belle-fille : elle est la femme de ton fils ; tu ne découvriras point sa nudité. ¹⁶ Tu ne découvriras point la nudité de la femme de ton frère ; c'est la nudité de ton frère. ¹⁷ Tu ne découvriras point la nudité d'une femme et de sa fille ; tu ne prendras point la fille de son fils, ni la fille de sa fille, pour découvrir sa nudité ; elles sont sa propre chair : c'est un crime. ¹⁸ Et tu ne prendras point une femme auprès de sa sœur pour l'affliger en découvrant sa nudité à côté d'elle, de son vivant.
   ¹⁹ Et tu ne t'approcheras point d'une femme durant la séparation de son impureté, pour découvrir sa nudité. ²⁰ Et tu n'auras point commerce avec la femme de ton prochain, pour te rendre impur avec elle. ²¹ Et tu ne donneras point de tes enfants* pour les faire passer [par le feu] à Moloc**, et tu ne profaneras point le nom de ton Dieu. Moi, je suis l'Éternel. ²² Tu ne coucheras point avec un mâle, comme on couche avec une femme : c'est une abomination. ²³ Tu ne coucheras point avec une bête pour te rendre impur avec elle ; et une femme ne se tiendra pas devant une bête, pour se prostituer à elle : c'est une confusion. ²⁴ Vous ne vous rendrez point impurs par aucune de ces choses, car c'est par toutes ces choses que les nations que je chasse devant vous se sont rendues impures ; ²⁵ et le pays s'est rendu impur ; et je punis sur lui son iniquité, et le pays vomit ses habitants. ²⁶ Mais vous, vous garderez mes statuts et mes ordonnances, et vous ne ferez aucune de toutes ces abominations, ni l'Israélite de naissance*, ni l'étranger qui séjourne au milieu de vous ; ²⁷ car les hommes du pays, qui y ont été avant vous, ont pratiqué toutes ces abominations, et le pays en a été rendu impur ; ²⁸ afin que le pays ne vous vomisse pas, quand vous l'aurez rendu impur, comme il a vomi la nation qui y a été avant vous. ²⁹ Car quiconque fera aucune de toutes ces abominations, … les âmes qui les pratiqueront, seront retranchées du milieu de leur peuple. ³⁰ Et vous garderez ce que j'ai ordonné de garder, en sorte que vous ne pratiquiez pas les coutumes abominables qui se sont pratiquées avant vous ; et vous ne vous rendrez point impurs par elles. Moi, je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu.

Lévitique 19

   ¹ Et l'Éternel parla à Moïse, disant : ² Parle à toute l'assemblée des fils d'Israël, et dis-leur : Vous serez saints, car moi, l'Éternel votre Dieu, je suis saint. ³ Vous craindrez chacun sa mère et son père ; et vous garderez mes sabbats. Moi, je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu. ⁴ Vous ne vous tournerez point vers les idoles, et vous ne vous ferez point de dieux de fonte. Moi, je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu. ⁵ Et si vous sacrifiez un sacrifice de prospérités à l'Éternel, vous le sacrifierez pour être agréés. ⁶ Il sera mangé le jour où vous l'aurez sacrifié, et le lendemain ; et ce qui restera le troisième jour, sera brûlé au feu. ⁷ Et si on en mange aucunement le troisième jour, ce sera une chose impure ; il ne sera point agréé. ⁸ Et celui qui en mangera portera son iniquité, car il a profané ce qui est consacré* à l'Éternel ; et cette âme-là sera retranchée de ses peuples. ⁹ Et quand vous ferez la moisson de votre terre, tu n'achèveras pas de moissonner les coins de ton champ et tu ne glaneras pas la glanure de ta moisson. ¹⁰ Et tu ne grappilleras pas ta vigne, ni ne recueilleras les grains tombés de ta vigne ; tu les laisseras pour le pauvre et pour l'étranger. Moi, je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu.
   ¹¹ Vous ne volerez pas, et vous ne vous tromperez pas [l'un l'autre], et vous ne vous mentirez pas l'un à l'autre. ¹² Et vous ne jurerez pas par mon nom, en mentant ; et tu ne profaneras pas le nom de ton Dieu. Moi, je suis l'Éternel. ¹³ Tu n'opprimeras pas ton prochain, et tu ne le pilleras pas. Le salaire de ton homme à gages ne passera pas la nuit chez toi jusqu'au matin. ¹⁴ Tu ne maudiras pas le sourd, et tu ne mettras pas d'achoppement devant l'aveugle, mais tu craindras ton Dieu. Moi, je suis l'Éternel. ¹⁵ Vous ne ferez pas d'injustice dans le jugement : tu n'auras pas égard à la personne du pauvre, et tu n'honoreras pas la personne du riche ; tu jugeras ton prochain avec justice. ¹⁶ Tu n'iras point çà et là médisant parmi ton peuple. Tu ne t'élèveras pas contre la vie* de ton prochain. Moi, je suis l'Éternel. ¹⁷ Tu ne haïras point ton frère dans ton cœur. Tu ne manqueras pas à reprendre ton prochain, et tu ne porteras pas de péché à cause de lui*. ¹⁸ Tu ne te vengeras pas, et tu ne garderas pas rancune aux fils de ton peuple ; mais tu aimeras ton prochain comme toi-même. Moi, je suis l'Éternel.
   ¹⁹ Vous garderez mes statuts. Tu n'accoupleras pas, parmi ton bétail, deux espèces différentes. Tu ne sèmeras pas ton champ de deux espèces [de semence] ; et tu ne mettras pas sur toi un vêtement d'un tissu mélangé de deux espèces de fil. ²⁰ Et si un homme couche et a commerce avec une femme, et qu'elle soit servante, fiancée à un homme, et qu'elle n'ait aucunement été rachetée ni mise en liberté, ils seront châtiés* ; on ne les mettra pas à mort, car elle n'avait pas été mise en liberté. ²¹ Et l'homme* amènera à l'Éternel, à l'entrée de la tente d'assignation, son sacrifice pour le délit, un bélier en sacrifice pour le délit. ²² Et le sacrificateur fera propitiation pour lui devant l'Éternel, avec le bélier du sacrifice pour le délit, à cause de son péché qu'il a commis ; et son péché qu'il a commis lui sera pardonné. ²³ Et quand vous serez entrés dans le pays, et que vous y aurez planté toute sorte d'arbres dont on mange, vous en regarderez le fruit comme incirconcis ; il sera incirconcis pour vous pendant trois ans : on n'en mangera point. ²⁴ Et la quatrième année tout leur fruit sera une chose sainte à la louange de l'Éternel. ²⁵ Et la cinquième année vous mangerez leur fruit, afin qu'ils vous multiplient leur rapport. Moi, je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu. ²⁶ Vous ne mangerez rien avec le sang. - Vous ne pratiquerez ni enchantements, ni pronostics. ²⁷ -Vous n'arrondirez point les coins de votre chevelure*, et vous ne gâterez pas les coins de votre barbe. ²⁸ Et vous ne ferez point d'incisions dans votre chair pour un mort, et vous ne vous ferez pas de tatouages. Moi, je suis l'Éternel. ²⁹ - Tu ne profaneras point ta fille, pour la faire se prostituer, afin que le pays ne se prostitue pas et que le pays ne se remplisse pas d'infamie.
   ³⁰ - Vous garderez mes sabbats, et vous révérerez mon sanctuaire. Moi, je suis l'Éternel. ³¹ - Ne vous tournez pas vers ceux qui évoquent les esprits, ni vers les diseurs de bonne aventure ; n'ayez pas recours à eux pour vous rendre impurs. Moi, je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu. ³² Tu te lèveras devant les cheveux blancs, et tu honoreras la personne du vieillard, et tu craindras ton Dieu. Moi, je suis l'Éternel. ³³ Si quelque étranger séjourne avec toi dans votre pays, vous ne l'opprimerez pas. ³⁴ L'étranger qui séjourne parmi vous sera pour vous comme l'Israélite de naissance*, et tu l'aimeras comme toi-même ; car vous avez été étrangers dans le pays d'Égypte. Moi, je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu. ³⁵ Et vous ne ferez pas d'injustice dans le jugement, ni dans la mesure de longueur, ni dans le poids, ni dans la mesure de capacité. ³⁶ Vous aurez des balances justes, des poids* justes, l'épha juste, et le hin juste. Moi, je suis l'Éternel, votre Dieu, qui vous ai fait sortir du pays d'Égypte. ³⁷ Et vous garderez tous mes statuts et toutes mes ordonnances, et vous les ferez. Moi, je suis l'Éternel.

   ¹ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, ² Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, I am the LORD your God. ³ After the doings of the land of Egypt, wherein ye dwelt, shall ye not do: and after the doings of the land of Canaan, whither I bring you, shall ye not do: neither shall ye walk in their ordinances. ⁴ Ye shall do my judgments, and keep mine ordinances, to walk therein: I am the LORD your God. ⁵ Ye shall therefore keep my statutes, and my judgments: which if a man do, he shall live in them: I am the LORD.
   ⁶ None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: I am the LORD. ⁷ The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. ⁸ The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness. ⁹ The nakedness of thy sister, the daughter of thy father, or daughter of thy mother, whether she be born at home, or born abroad, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover. ¹⁰ The nakedness of thy son's daughter, or of thy daughter's daughter, even their nakedness thou shalt not uncover: for theirs is thine own nakedness. ¹¹ The nakedness of thy father's wife's daughter, begotten of thy father, she is thy sister, thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. ¹² Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's sister: she is thy father's near kinswoman. ¹³ Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy mother's sister: for she is thy mother's near kinswoman. ¹⁴ Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy father's brother, thou shalt not approach to his wife: she is thine aunt. ¹⁵ Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy daughter in law: she is thy son's wife; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. ¹⁶ Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of thy brother's wife: it is thy brother's nakedness. ¹⁷ Thou shalt not uncover the nakedness of a woman and her daughter, neither shalt thou take her son's daughter, or her daughter's daughter, to uncover her nakedness; for they are her near kinswomen: it is wickedness. ¹⁸ Neither shalt thou take a wife to her sister, to vex her, to uncover her nakedness, beside the other in her life time.
   ¹⁹ Also thou shalt not approach unto a woman to uncover her nakedness, as long as she is put apart for her uncleanness. ²⁰ Moreover thou shalt not lie carnally with thy neighbour's wife, to defile thyself with her. ²¹ And thou shalt not let any of thy seed pass through the fire to Molech, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD. ²² Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. ²³ Neither shalt thou lie with any beast to defile thyself therewith: neither shall any woman stand before a beast to lie down thereto: it is confusion. ²⁴ Defile not ye yourselves in any of these things: for in all these the nations are defiled which I cast out before you: ²⁵ And the land is defiled: therefore I do visit the iniquity thereof upon it, and the land itself vomiteth out her inhabitants. ²⁶ Ye shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments, and shall not commit any of these abominations; neither any of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourneth among you: ²⁷ (For all these abominations have the men of the land done, which were before you, and the land is defiled;) ²⁸ That the land spue not you out also, when ye defile it, as it spued out the nations that were before you. ²⁹ For whosoever shall commit any of these abominations, even the souls that commit them shall be cut off from among their people. ³⁰ Therefore shall ye keep mine ordinance, that ye commit not any one of these abominable customs, which were committed before you, and that ye defile not yourselves therein: I am the LORD your God.

   ¹ And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, ² Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the LORD your God am holy. ³ Ye shall fear every man his mother, and his father, and keep my sabbaths: I am the LORD your God. ⁴ Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the LORD your God. ⁵ And if ye offer a sacrifice of peace offerings unto the LORD, ye shall offer it at your own will. ⁶ It shall be eaten the same day ye offer it, and on the morrow: and if ought remain until the third day, it shall be burnt in the fire. ⁷ And if it be eaten at all on the third day, it is abominable; it shall not be accepted. ⁸ Therefore every one that eateth it shall bear his iniquity, because he hath profaned the hallowed thing of the LORD: and that soul shall be cut off from among his people. ⁹ And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not wholly reap the corners of thy field, neither shalt thou gather the gleanings of thy harvest. ¹⁰ And thou shalt not glean thy vineyard, neither shalt thou gather every grape of thy vineyard; thou shalt leave them for the poor and stranger: I am the LORD your God.
   ¹¹ Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another. ¹² And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD. ¹³ Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning. ¹⁴ Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumblingblock before the blind, but shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD. ¹⁵ Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment: thou shalt not respect the person of the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty: but in righteousness shalt thou judge thy neighbour. ¹⁶ Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour; I am the LORD. ¹⁷ Thou shalt not hate thy brother in thine heart: thou shalt in any wise rebuke thy neighbour, and not suffer sin upon him. ¹⁸ Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD.
   ¹⁹ Ye shall keep my statutes. Thou shalt not let thy cattle gender with a diverse kind: thou shalt not sow thy field with mingled seed: neither shall a garment mingled of linen and woollen come upon thee. ²⁰ And whosoever lieth carnally with a woman, that is a bondmaid, betrothed to an husband, and not at all redeemed, nor freedom given her; she shall be scourged; they shall not be put to death, because she was not free. ²¹ And he shall bring his trespass offering unto the LORD, unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, even a ram for a trespass offering. ²² And the priest shall make an atonement for him with the ram of the trespass offering before the LORD for his sin which he hath done: and the sin which he hath done shall be forgiven him. ²³ And when ye shall come into the land, and shall have planted all manner of trees for food, then ye shall count the fruit thereof as uncircumcised: three years shall it be as uncircumcised unto you: it shall not be eaten of. ²⁴ But in the fourth year all the fruit thereof shall be holy to praise the LORD withal. ²⁵ And in the fifth year shall ye eat of the fruit thereof, that it may yield unto you the increase thereof: I am the LORD your God. ²⁶ Ye shall not eat any thing with the blood: neither shall ye use enchantment, nor observe times. ²⁷ Ye shall not round the corners of your heads, neither shalt thou mar the corners of thy beard. ²⁸ Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the LORD. ²⁹ Do not prostitute thy daughter, to cause her to be a whore; lest the land fall to whoredom, and the land become full of wickedness.
   ³⁰ Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I am the LORD. ³¹ Regard not them that have familiar spirits, neither seek after wizards, to be defiled by them: I am the LORD your God. ³² Thou shalt rise up before the hoary head, and honour the face of the old man, and fear thy God: I am the LORD. ³³ And if a stranger sojourn with thee in your land, ye shall not vex him. ³⁴ But the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself; for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God. ³⁵ Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure. ³⁶ Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have: I am the LORD your God, which brought you out of the land of Egypt. ³⁷ Therefore shall ye observe all my statutes, and all my judgments, and do them: I am the LORD.
