   ¹³ Vous avez eu pour moi des paroles dures, dit l'Eternel. Et vous dites : Qu'avons-nous dit entre nous de toi ? ¹⁴ Vous avez dit : Inutile de servir Dieu ; qu'avons-nous gagné à observer ses ordonnances et à mener deuil en présence de l'Eternel des armées ? ¹⁵ Et maintenant, quant à nous, nous déclarons heureux les impies. En faisant le mal, ils n'en prospèrent pas moins ; ils ont beau tenter Dieu, ils échappent ! ¹⁶ Alors ceux qui craignent l'Eternel se sont entretenus les uns avec les autres, et l'Eternel a été attentif, et il a entendu, et un livre a été écrit devant lui pour conserver la mémoire de ceux qui craignent l'Eternel et qui ont du respect pour son nom. ¹⁷ Et au jour que je prépare, dit l'Eternel des armées, ils seront pour moi un trésor mis à part, et je serai tendre pour eux comme un homme est tendre pour son fils qui le sert. ¹⁸ Et vous verrez de nouveau la différence entre le juste et le méchant, entre qui sert Dieu et qui ne le sert pas.
