¹ Après quelque temps, Jésus rentra à Capharnaüm, et l'on apprit qu'il était dans la maison. ² Il s'y rassembla tant de gens qu'il n'y avait plus de place, même aux abords de la porte ; et il leur donnait l'enseignement. ³ Et on vient amenant vers lui un paralytique, porté à quatre. ⁴ Et, comme ils ne pouvaient l'amener jusqu'à lui à cause de la foule, ils découvrirent le toit à l'endroit où il était, et, ayant fait une ouverture, ils descendirent le grabat où le paralytique était étendu. ⁵ Jésus, voyant leur foi, dit au paralytique : "Mon fils, tes péchés sont remis." ⁶ Or il y avait assis là quelques scribes, qui pensaient en eux-mêmes : ⁷ " Comment celui-ci parle-t-il ainsi ? Il blasphème. Qui peut remettre les péchés sinon Dieu seul ?" ⁸ Jésus, ayant aussitôt connu par son esprit qu'ils pensaient ainsi en eux-mêmes, leur dit : "pourquoi avez-vous ces pensées en vous-mêmes ? ⁹ Lequel est le plus facile, de dire au paralytique : "tes péchés sont remis," ou de dire : "lève-toi, prends ton grabat et marche ?" ¹⁰ Mais, pour que vous sachiez que le Fils de l'homme a, sur la terre, le pouvoir de remettre les péchés, ‒ il dit au paralytique : ¹¹ Je te le dis : lève-toi, prends ton grabat et va dans ta maison." ¹² Et il se dressa et, ayant aussitôt pris son grabat, il sortit devant tout le monde, si bien que tous étaient stupéfaits et rendaient gloire à Dieu, disant : "Jamais nous n'avons rien vu de semblable !"

   ¹ And again he entered into Capernaum after some days; and it was noised that he was in the house. ² And straightway many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive them, no, not so much as about the door: and he preached the word unto them. ³ And they come unto him, bringing one sick of the palsy, which was borne of four. ⁴ And when they could not come nigh unto him for the press, they uncovered the roof where he was: and when they had broken it up, they let down the bed wherein the sick of the palsy lay. ⁵ When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the sick of the palsy, Son, thy sins be forgiven thee. ⁶ But there was certain of the scribes sitting there, and reasoning in their hearts, ⁷ Why doth this man thus speak blasphemies? who can forgive sins but God only? ⁸ And immediately when Jesus perceived in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, he said unto them, Why reason ye these things in your hearts? ⁹ Whether is it easier to say to the sick of the palsy, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and take up thy bed, and walk? ¹⁰ But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (he saith to the sick of the palsy,) ¹¹ I say unto thee, Arise, and take up thy bed, and go thy way into thine house. ¹² And immediately he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed, and glorified God, saying, We never saw it on this fashion.

   ² et auditum est quod in domo esset, et convenerunt multi, ita ut non caperet neque ad januam, et loquebatur eis verbum.
   ³ Et venerunt ad eum ferentes paralyticum, qui a quatuor portabatur.
   ⁴ Et cum non possent offerre eum illi præ turba, nudaverunt tectum ubi erat : et patefacientes submiserunt grabatum in quo paralyticus jacebat.
   ⁵ Cum autem vidisset Jesus fidem illorum, ait paralytico : Fili, dimittuntur tibi peccata tua.
   ⁶ Erant autem illic quidam de scribis sedentes, et cogitantes in cordibus suis :
   ⁷ Quid hic sic loquitur ? blasphemat. Quis potest dimittere peccata, nisi solus Deus ?
   ⁸ Quo statim cognito Jesus spiritu suo, quia sic cogitarent intra se, dicit illis : Quid ista cogitatis in cordibus vestris ?
   ⁹ Quid est facilius dicere paralytico : Dimittuntur tibi peccata : an dicere : Surge, tolle grabatum tuum, et ambula ?
   ¹⁰ Ut autem sciatis quia Filius hominis habet potestatem in terra dimittendi peccata (ait paralytico),
   ¹¹ tibi dico : Surge, tolle grabatum tuum, et vade in domum tuam.
   ¹² Et statim surrexit ille : et, sublato grabato, abiit coram omnibus, ita ut mirarentur omnes, et honorificent Deum, dicentes : Quia numquam sic vidimus.
