BCC ¹ Les enfants d'Israël, toute l'assemblée, arrivèrent au désert de Sin, dans le premier mois, et le peuple séjourna à Cadès. C'est là que mourut Marie et qu'elle fut enterrée.

BCC ² Comme il n'y avait pas d'eau pour l'assemblée, ils s'attroupèrent contre Moïse et Aaron.

KJV ² And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.

VULC ² Cumque indigeret aqua populus, convenerunt adversum Moysen et Aaron :

WLC ² וְלֹא־ הָ֥יָה מַ֖יִם לָעֵדָ֑ה וַיִּקָּ֣הֲל֔וּ עַל־ מֹשֶׁ֖ה וְעַֽל־ אַהֲרֹֽן׃

BCC ³ Le peuple disputa avec Moïse, et ils dirent : "que n'avons-nous péri quand nos frères périrent devant Yahweh ?

KJV ³ And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!

VULC ³ et versi in seditionem, dixerunt : Utinam periissemus inter fratres nostros coram Domino.

WLC ³ וַיָּ֥רֶב הָעָ֖ם עִם־ מֹשֶׁ֑ה וַיֹּאמְר֣וּ לֵאמֹ֔ר וְל֥וּ גָוַ֛עְנוּ בִּגְוַ֥ע אַחֵ֖ינוּ לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

BCC ⁴ Pourquoi avez-vous fait venir l'assemblée de Yahweh dans ce désert, pour que nous y mourions, nous et notre bétail ?

KJV ⁴ And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?

VULC ⁴ Cur eduxistis ecclesiam Domini in solitudinem, ut et nos et nostra jumenta moriamur ?

WLC ⁴ וְלָמָ֤ה הֲבֵאתֶם֙ אֶת־ קְהַ֣ל יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־ הַמִּדְבָּ֖ר הַזֶּ֑ה לָמ֣וּת שָׁ֔ם אֲנַ֖חְנוּ וּבְעִירֵֽנוּ׃

BCC ⁵ Pourquoi nous avez-vous fait monter d'Égypte, pour nous amener dans ce méchant lieu ? Ce n'est pas un lieu où l'on puisse semer, et il n'y a ni figuier, ni vigne, ni grenadier, ni même d'eau à boire ?"

KJV ⁵ And wherefore have ye made us to come up out of Egypt, to bring us in unto this evil place? it is no place of seed, or of figs, or of vines, or of pomegranates; neither is there any water to drink.

BCC ⁶ Moïse et Aaron, s'éloignant de l'assemblée, vinrent à l'entrée de la tente de réunion. Ils tombèrent sur leur visage, et la gloire de Yahweh leur apparut.

KJV ⁶ And Moses and Aaron went from the presence of the assembly unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and they fell upon their faces: and the glory of the LORD appeared unto them.

VULC ⁶ Ingressusque Moyses et Aaron, dimissa multitudine, tabernaculum fœderis, corruerunt proni in terram, clamaveruntque ad Dominum, atque dixerunt : Domine Deus, audi clamorem hujus populi, et aperi eis thesaurum tuum fontem aquæ vivæ, ut satiati, cesset murmuratio eorum. BCC ⁸ "Prends le bâton et convoque l'assemblée, toi et ton frère Aaron ; vous parlerez au rocher en leur présence, afin qu'il donne ses eaux ; et tu feras sortir pour eux de l'eau du rocher, et tu donneras à boire à l'assemblée et à son bétail."

KJV ⁸ Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.

VULC ⁸ Tolle virgam, et congrega populum, tu et Aaron frater tuus, et loquimini ad petram coram eis, et illa dabit aquas. Cumque eduxeris aquam de petra, bibet omnis multitudo et jumenta ejus.

WLC ⁸ קַ֣ח אֶת־ הַמַּטֶּ֗ה וְהַקְהֵ֤ל אֶת־ הָעֵדָה֙ אַתָּה֙ וְאַהֲרֹ֣ן אָחִ֔יךָ וְדִבַּרְתֶּ֧ם אֶל־ הַסֶּ֛לַע לְעֵינֵיהֶ֖ם וְנָתַ֣ן מֵימָ֑יו וְהוֹצֵאתָ֨ לָהֶ֥ם מַ֙יִם֙ מִן־ הַסֶּ֔לַע וְהִשְׁקִיתָ֥ אֶת־ הָעֵדָ֖ה וְאֶת־ בְּעִירָֽם׃

BCC ⁹ Moïse prit le bâton qui était devant Yahweh, comme Yahweh le lui avait ordonné.

KJV ⁹ And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.

VULC ⁹ Tulit igitur Moyses virgam, quæ erat in conspectu Domini, sicut præceperat ei,

WLC ⁹ וַיִּקַּ֥ח מֹשֶׁ֛ה אֶת־ הַמַּטֶּ֖ה מִלִּפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה כַּאֲשֶׁ֖ר צִוָּֽהוּ׃

BCC ¹⁰ Puis Moïse et Aaron convoquèrent l'assemblée en face du rocher, et Moïse leur dit : "écoutez-donc, rebelles ! Vous ferons-nous sortir de l'eau de ce rocher ?"

KJV ¹⁰ And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?

VULC ¹⁰ congregata multitudine ante petram : dixitque eis : Audite, rebelles et increduli : num de petra hac vobis aquam poterimus ejicere ?

WLC ¹⁰ וַיַּקְהִ֜לוּ מֹשֶׁ֧ה וְאַהֲרֹ֛ן אֶת־ הַקָּהָ֖ל אֶל־ פְּנֵ֣י הַסָּ֑לַע וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהֶ֗ם שִׁמְעוּ־ נָא֙ הַמֹּרִ֔ים הֲמִן־ הַסֶּ֣לַע הַזֶּ֔ה נוֹצִ֥יא לָכֶ֖ם מָֽיִם׃

BCC ¹¹ Moïse leva la main et frappa deux fois le rocher de son bâton ; et il sortit de l'eau en abondance. L'assemblée but, ainsi que le bétail.

KJV ¹¹ And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

VULC ¹¹ Cumque elevasset Moyses manum, percutiens virga bis silicem, egressæ sunt aquæ largissimæ, ita ut populus biberet et jumenta.

WLC ¹¹ וַיָּ֨רֶם מֹשֶׁ֜ה אֶת־ יָד֗וֹ וַיַּ֧ךְ אֶת־ הַסֶּ֛לַע בְּמַטֵּ֖הוּ פַּעֲמָ֑יִם וַיֵּצְאוּ֙ מַ֣יִם רַבִּ֔ים וַתֵּ֥שְׁתְּ הָעֵדָ֖ה וּבְעִירָֽם׃

BCC ¹² Alors Yahweh dit à Moïse et à Aaron : "parce que vous n'avez pas cru en moi, pour me sanctifier aux yeux des enfants d'Israël, vous ne ferez point entrer cette assemblée dans le pays que je lui donne."

KJV ¹² And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

VULC ¹² Dixitque Dominus ad Moysen et Aaron : Quia non credidistis mihi, ut sanctificaretis me coram filiis Israël, non introducetis hos populos in terram, quam dabo eis.

WLC ¹² וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוָה֮ אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֣ה וְאֶֽל־ אַהֲרֹן֒ יַ֚עַן לֹא־ הֶאֱמַנְתֶּ֣ם בִּ֔י לְהַ֨קְדִּישֵׁ֔נִי לְעֵינֵ֖י בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל לָכֵ֗ן לֹ֤א תָבִ֙יאוּ֙ אֶת־ הַקָּהָ֣ל הַזֶּ֔ה אֶל־ הָאָ֖רֶץ אֲשֶׁר־ נָתַ֥תִּי לָהֶֽם׃

BCC ¹³ Ce sont là les eaux de Mériba, où les enfants d'Israël contestèrent avec Yahweh, et il se sanctifia en eux.

KJV ¹³ This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.

VULC ¹³ Hæc est aqua contradictionis, ubi jurgati sunt filii Israël contra Dominum, et sanctificatus est in eis.

WLC ¹³ הֵ֚מָּה מֵ֣י מְרִיבָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־ רָב֥וּ בְנֵֽי־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אֶת־ יְהוָ֑ה וַיִּקָּדֵ֖שׁ בָּֽם׃
