   ¹³ Et Balak lui dit : Viens donc avec moi à une autre place d'où tu le verras ; tu en verras seulement l'extrémité et tu ne le verras pas tout entier ; et maudis-le moi de là. ¹⁴ Et il l'emmena dans les champs de Tsophim, au sommet du Pisga, où il dressa sept autels et offrit un taureau et un bélier sur chaque autel. ¹⁵ Et Balaam dit à Balak : Tiens-toi là près de ton holocauste, et moi j'irai à la rencontre [de Dieu]. ¹⁶ Et l'Eternel se présenta à Balaam et il mit une parole dans sa bouche et lui dit : Retourne vers Balak, et voici comment tu lui parleras. ¹⁷ Et il revint vers lui et le trouva qui se tenait près de son holocauste, et les princes de Moab étaient avec lui. Et Balak lui dit : Qu'a dit l'Eternel ?
   ¹⁸ Et Balaam prononça son discours sentencieux et dit :

Lève-toi, Balak, et écoute !
Prête l'oreille, fils de Tsippor.
   ¹⁹ Dieu n'est pas homme pour mentir
Et fils d'homme pour se repentir.
Est-ce lui qui dit et ne fait pas,
Qui parle et n'exécute pas ?
   ²⁰ Oui, j'ai été chargé de bénir ;
Il a béni : je ne révoquerai point.
   ²¹ On n'aperçoit pas d'iniquité en Jacob,
Et on ne trouve pas de misère en Israël.
L'Eternel son Dieu est avec lui,
Et chez lui retentit le cri dont on acclame un roi.
   ²² Dieu le fait sortir d'Egypte ;
Il lui donne la vigueur du buffle.

   ²³ Parce qu'il n'y a pas de magie en Jacob
Et pas de divination en Israël,
Il sera dit en son temps à Jacob
Et à Israël ce que Dieu fait.
   ²⁴ Voici un peuple qui se lève comme une lionne.
Qui se dresse comme un lion ;
Il ne se couche pas avant d'avoir dévoré une proie
Et d'avoir bu le sang de ceux qu'il a tués. ²⁵ Et Balak dit à Balaam : Si tu ne le maudis pas, du moins ne le bénis pas ! ²⁶ Et Balaam répondit et dit à Balak : Ne t'ai-je pas dit que tout ce que l'Eternel dira, je le ferai ? ²⁷ Et Balak dit à Balaam : Viens donc avec moi à une autre place. Peut-être l'Eternel approuvera-t-il que de là tu me le maudisses. ²⁸ Et Balak emmena Balaam au sommet du Péor qui domine le désert. ²⁹ Et Balaam dit à Balak : Dresse-moi ici sept autels et prépare-moi ici sept taureaux et sept béliers. ³⁰ Et Balak fit ce qu'avait dit Balaam et il offrit un taureau et un bélier sur chaque autel.

   ¹³ And Balak said unto him, Come, I pray thee, with me unto another place, from whence thou mayest see them: thou shalt see but the utmost part of them, and shalt not see them all: and curse me them from thence. ¹⁴ And he brought him into the field of Zophim, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar. ¹⁵ And he said unto Balak, Stand here by thy burnt offering, while I meet the LORD yonder. ¹⁶ And the LORD met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Go again unto Balak, and say thus. ¹⁷ And when he came to him, behold, he stood by his burnt offering, and the princes of Moab with him. And Balak said unto him, What hath the LORD spoken? ¹⁸ And he took up his parable, and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear; hearken unto me, thou son of Zippor: ¹⁹ God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? ²⁰ Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it. ²¹ He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them. ²² God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn. ²³ Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought! ²⁴ Behold, the people shall rise up as a great lion, and lift up himself as a young lion: he shall not lie down until he eat of the prey, and drink the blood of the slain. ²⁵ And Balak said unto Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all. ²⁶ But Balaam answered and said unto Balak, Told not I thee, saying, All that the LORD speaketh, that I must do? ²⁷ And Balak said unto Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee unto another place; peradventure it will please God that thou mayest curse me them from thence. ²⁸ And Balak brought Balaam unto the top of Peor, that looketh toward Jeshimon. ²⁹ And Balaam said unto Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams. ³⁰ And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered a bullock and a ram on every altar.
