Mt 26-28 (Catholique Crampon)

¹ Or, quand Jésus eut achevé tous ces discours, il dit à ses disciples : "vous savez que la Pâque a lieu dans deux jours,
² et le Fils de l'homme va être livré pour être crucifié."
³ Alors les grands prêtres et les anciens du peuple se réunirent dans le palais du grand prêtre appelé Caïphe,
⁴ et ils délibérèrent sur les moyens de s'emparer de Jésus par ruse et de le faire mourir.
⁵ "Mais, disaient-ils, pas pendant la fête, de peur qu'il n'y ait du tumulte dans le peuple."
⁶ Comme Jésus se trouvait à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux,
⁷ une femme s'approcha de lui, avec un vase d'albâtre (plein) d'un parfum fort précieux ; et, pendant qu'il était à table, elle le répandit sur sa tête.
⁸ Ce que voyant, les disciples dirent avec indignation : "à quoi bon cette perte ?
⁹ On pouvait, en effet, vendre ce (parfum) très cher et en donner (le prix) aux pauvres."
¹⁰ Mais Jésus, s'en étant aperçu, leur dit : "pourquoi faites-vous de la peine à cette femme ? C'est une bonne action qu'elle a faite à mon égard.
¹¹ Car toujours vous avez les pauvres avec vous ; mais moi, vous ne m'avez pas toujours.
¹² En mettant ce parfum sur mon corps, elle l'a fait en prévision de ma sépulture.
¹³ Je vous le dis, en vérité, partout où sera prêché cet évangile, dans le monde entier, ce qu'elle a fait sera raconté aussi, en mémoire d'elle."
¹⁴ Alors l'un des Douze, appelé Judas Iscariote, alla trouver les grands prêtres,
¹⁵ et dit : "que voulez-vous me donner, et je vous le livrerai ?" Et ils lui fixèrent trente pièces d'argent.
¹⁶ Depuis ce moment, il cherchait une occasion favorable pour livrer Jésus.
¹⁷ Le premier jour des Azymes, les disciples vinrent trouver Jésus, et lui dirent : "où voulez-vous que nous vous fassions les préparatifs pour manger la pâque ?"
¹⁸ Il leur dit : "allez à la ville, chez un tel, et dites-lui : Le maître (te) fait dire : Mon temps est proche, je ferai chez toi la pâque avec mes disciples."
¹⁹ Les disciples firent ce que Jésus leur avait commandé, et ils firent les préparatifs de la pâque.
²⁰ Le soir venu, il se met à table avec les douze [disciples].
²¹ Pendant qu'ils mangeaient, il dit : "Je vous le dis en vérité, un de vous me trahira ;"
²² Et, profondément attristés, ils se mirent à lui dire, chacun de son côté : "serait-ce moi, Seigneur ?"
²³ Il répondit : "celui qui a mis avec moi la main au plat celui-là me trahira !
²⁴ Le Fils de l'homme s'en va, selon ce qui est écrit de lui ; mais malheur à l'homme par qui le Fils de l'homme est trahi ! Mieux vaudrait pour cet homme-là qu'il ne fût pas né."
²⁵ Judas, qui le trahissait, prit la parole et dit : "serait-ce moi, Rabbi ? ‒ Tu l'as dit,"répondit-il
²⁶ Pendant le repas, Jésus prit du pain et après avoir dit la bénédiction, il le rompit et le donna à ses disciples, en disant : "prenez et mangez, ceci est mon corps."
²⁷ Il prit ensuite une coupe et, après avoir rendu grâces, il la leur donna, en disant : " Buvez-en tous,
²⁸ car ceci est mon sang, (le sang) de l'alliance, répandu pour beaucoup en rémission des péchés.
²⁹ Je vous le dis, je ne boirai plus désormais de ce produit de la vigne jusqu'à ce jour où je le boirai nouveau avec vous dans le royaume de mon Père."
³⁰ Après le chant de l'hymne, ils s'en allèrent au mont des Oliviers.
³¹ Alors Jésus leur dit : "Je vous serai à tous, cette nuit-ci, une occasion de chute, car il est écrit : Je frapperai le pasteur, et les brebis du troupeau seront dispersées.
³² Mais, après que je serai ressuscité, je vous précéderai en Galilée."
³³ Pierre, prenant la parole, lui dit : "quand vous seriez pour tous une occasion de chute, vous ne le serez jamais pour moi."
³⁴ Jésus lui dit : "Je te le dis, en vérité, cette nuit-ci, avant que le coq ait chanté trois fois tu me renieras."
³⁵ Pierre lui dit : "quand même il me faudrait mourir avec vous, je ne vous renierai pas. " Et tous les disciples dirent de même.
³⁶ Alors Jésus arrive avec eux en un domaine appelé Gethsémani, et il dit à ses disciples : " Demeurez ici, tandis que je m'en vais là pour prier. "
³⁷ Ayant pris avec lui Pierre et les deux fils de Zébédée, il commença à éprouver de la tristesse et de l'angoisse.
³⁸ Alors il leur dit : "Mon âme est triste jusqu'à la mort ; restez ici et veillez avec moi."
³⁹ Et s'étant un peu avancé, il tomba sur sa face, priant et disant : " Mon Père, s'il est possible, que ce calice s'éloigne de moi ! Cependant non pas comme je veux, mais comme vous (voulez) !"
⁴⁰ Et il vient vers les disciples et il les trouve endormis ; et il dit à Pierre : " Ainsi, vous n'avez pas eu la force de veiller une heure avec moi !
⁴¹ Veillez et priez, afin que vous n'entriez point en tentation. L'esprit est ardent, mais la chair est faible. "
⁴² Il s'en alla une seconde fois et pria ainsi : " Mon Père, si ce (calice) ne peut passer sans que je le boive, que votre volonté soit faite !"
⁴³ Etant revenu, il les trouva endormis, car leurs yeux étaient appesantis.
⁴⁴ Il les laissa et, s'en allant de nouveau, il pria pour la troisième fois, redisant la même parole.
⁴⁵ Alors il vient vers les disciples et leur dit : "désormais dormez et reposez-vous ; voici que l'heure est proche où le Fils de l'homme va être livré aux mains des pécheurs.
⁴⁶ Levez-vous, allons ! Voici que celui qui me trahit est proche."
⁴⁷ Comme il parlait encore, voilà que Judas, l'un des Douze, arriva, et avec lui une foule nombreuse armée de glaives et de bâtons, envoyée par les grands prêtres et les anciens du peuple.
⁴⁸ Celui qui le trahissait leur avait donné un signe : "celui à qui je donnerai un baiser, c'est lui : arrêtez-le. "
⁴⁹ Et aussitôt, s'avançant vers Jésus, il dit : "salut, Rabbi !", et il lui donna un baiser.
⁵⁰ Jésus lui dit : "ami, tu es là pour cela ! "Alors ils s'avancèrent, mirent la main sur Jésus et le saisirent.
⁵¹ Et voilà qu'un de ceux qui étaient avec Jésus, mettant la main à son glaive, le tira et, frappant le serviteur du grand prêtre, lui emporta l'oreille.
⁵² Alors Jésus lui dit : "remets ton glaive à sa place ; car tous ceux qui prennent le glaive périront par le glaive.
⁵³ Ou penses-tu que je ne puisse pas recourir à mon Père, qui me fournirait sur l'heure plus de douze légions d'anges ?
⁵⁴ Comment donc s'accompliraient les Écritures, d'après lesquelles il doit en être ainsi ?"
⁵⁵ En ce même moment Jésus dit aux foules : "comme contre un brigand, vous êtes sortis avec des glaives et des bâtons pour me prendre ! Chaque jour j'étais assis dans le temple, où j'enseignais, et vous ne m'avez pas arrêté.
⁵⁶ Mais tout cela est arrivé afin que fussent accomplies les Écritures prophétiques. "alors tous les disciples l'abandonnèrent et prirent la fuite.
⁵⁷ Ceux qui avaient arrêté Jésus l'emmenèrent chez Caïphe, le grand prêtre, où se réunirent les scribes et les anciens.
⁵⁸ Or Pierre le suivait de loin jusqu'au palais du grand prêtre ; y étant entré, il était assis avec les satellites pour voir la fin.
⁵⁹ Les grands prêtres et tout le Sanhédrin cherchaient un faux témoignage contre Jésus afin de le faire mourir ;
⁶⁰ et ils n'en trouvèrent point, quoique beaucoup de faux témoins se fussent présentés. Finalement il s'en présenta deux qui
⁶¹ dirent : "ces homme a dit : Je puis détruire le sanctuaire de Dieu et le rebâtir en trois jours."
⁶² Le grand prêtre se leva et dit à Jésus : "Tu ne réponds rien ! Qu'est-ce que ces hommes déposent contre toi ?"
⁶³ Mais Jésus gardait le silence. Et le grand prêtre lui dit : " Je t'adjure par le Dieu vivant de nous dire, si tu es le Christ, le Fils de Dieu ?"
⁶⁴ Jésus lui dit : "tu l'as dit. Du reste, je vous le dis, à partir de maintenant vous verrez le Fils de l'homme assis à la droite de la Puissante et venant sur les nuées du ciel."
⁶⁵ Alors le grand prêtre déchira ses vêtements, en disant : "Il a blasphémé ! Qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoins ? Voici que vous venez d'entendre [son] blasphème :
⁶⁶ que vous ensemble ?" Ils répondirent : "Il mérite la mort. "
⁶⁷ Alors ils lui crachèrent au visage et le frappèrent avec le poing ; d'autres le souffletèrent, en disant :
⁶⁸ " Prophétise-nous, Christ ! Quel est celui qui t'a frappé ?"
⁶⁹ Or Pierre était assis, dehors, dans la cour. Une servante s'approcha de lui et dit : "toi aussi, tu étais avec Jésus le Galiléen !"
⁷⁰ Mais il nia devant tous en disant : "je ne sais ce que tu veux dire."
⁷¹ Comme il se dirigerait vers la porte, une autre le vit et dit à ceux (qui se trouvaient) là : " Celui-là était avec Jésus de Nazareth !"
⁷² Et de nouveau il nia avec serment : "je ne connais pas cet homme."
⁷³ Un peu après, ceux qui étaient présents s'approchèrent et dirent à Pierre : "pour sûr, toi aussi tu en es ; aussi bien, ton langage te fait reconnaître."
⁷⁴ Alors il se mit à faire des imprécations et à jurer : "je ne connais pas cet homme !" Et aussitôt un coq chanta.
⁷⁵ Et Pierre se souvint de la parole de Jésus, qui lui avait dit : " Avant que le coq ait chanté, tu me renieras trois fois." Et étant sorti, il pleura amèrement.

Matthieu 27

¹ Le matin venu, tous les grands prêtres et les anciens du peuple prirent une délibération contre Jésus pour le faire mourir.
² Et, après l'avoir lié, ils l'emmenèrent et le remirent à Ponce Pilate, le gouverneur.
³ Alors Judas, qui l'avait trahi, voyant qu'il était condamné, fut pris de remords et rapporta les trente pièces d'argent aux grands prêtres et aux anciens,
⁴ disant : "j'ai péché en livrant un sang innocent. "Ils dirent : "qu'est-ce que cela nous fait ? A toi de voir !"
⁵ Alors, ayant jeté les pièces d'argent dans le sanctuaire, il se retira et alla se pendre.
⁶ Mais les grands prêtres prirent les pièces d'argent et dirent : "il n'est pas permis de les mettre dans le trésor, puisque c'est le prix du sang."
⁷ Et, après avoir pris une délibération, ils achetèrent avec (cet argent) le champ du potier pour la sépulture des étrangers.
⁸ C'est pourquoi ce champ fut appelé Champ du sang, (et l'est) encore aujourd'hui.
⁹ Alors fut accomplie la parole du prophète Jérémie : Ils ont pris les trente pièces d'argent, prix de celui qui a été mis à prix, qu'ont mis à prix des enfants d'Israël,
¹⁰ et ils les ont données pour le champ du potier, comme le Seigneur me l'a ordonné.
¹¹ Jésus comparut devant le gouverneur, et le gouverneur l'interrogea, en disant : " Es-tu le roi des Juifs ? " Jésus dit : "tu le dis."
¹² Mais il ne répondait rien aux accusations des grands prêtres et des anciens.
¹³ Alors Pilate lui dit : "n'entends-tu pas combien de témoignages ils portent contre toi ? "
¹⁴ Mais il ne lui répondit sur aucun point, de sorte que le gouverneur était dans un grand étonnement.
¹⁵ Or, à chaque fête, le gouverneur avait coutume de relâcher à la foule un prisonnier, celui qu'ils voulaient.
¹⁶ Ils avaient alors un prisonnier fameux, nommé Barabbas.
¹⁷ Donc, quand ils furent rassemblés, Pilate leur dit : "lequel voulez-vous que je vous relâche, Barabbas ou Jésus dit Christ ?
¹⁸ Il savait, en effet, que c'était par jalousie qu'ils l'avaient livré.
¹⁹ Pendant qu'il siégeait au tribunal, sa femme lui envoya dire : "n'aie point affaire avec ce juste ; car j'ai été aujourd'hui fort tourmentée en songe à cause de lui."
²⁰ Mais les grands prêtres et les anciens persuadèrent aux foules de demander Barabbas, et de réclamer la mort de Jésus.
²¹ Le gouverneur, prenant la parole, leur dit : " Lequel des deux voulez-vous que je vous relâche ?" Ils dirent : "Barabbas."
²² Pilate leur dit : "que ferai-je donc de Jésus dit Christ ? "tous dirent : "qu'il soit crucifié !"
²³ Il dit "qu'a-t-il donc fait de mal ?" Et ils crièrent encore plus fort : "qu'il soit crucifié !"
²⁴ Pilate, voyant qu'il ne gagnait rien, mais que le tumulte allait croissant, prit de l'eau et se lava les mains devant la foule, en disant : "je suis innocent du sang de ce juste ; à vous de voir !"
²⁵ Et tout le peuple répondit : "que son sang soit sur nous et sur nos enfants !"
²⁶ Alors il leur relâcha Barabbas ; et, après avoir fait flageller Jésus, il le remit (aux soldats) pour être crucifié.
²⁷ Alors les soldats du gouverneur prirent Jésus avec eux dans le prétoire, et ils assemblèrent autour de lui toute la cohorte.
²⁸ L'ayant dévêtu, ils jetèrent sur lui un manteau écarlate.
²⁹ Ils tressèrent une couronne avec des épines, qu'ils posèrent sur sa tête, avec un roseau dans sa main droite ; et, fléchissant le genou devant lui, ils lui disaient par dérision : "salut, roi des Juifs !"
³⁰ Ils lui crachaient aussi dessus et, prenant le roseau, ils en frappaient sa tête.
³¹ Après s'être moqués de lui, ils lui retirèrent le manteau, lui remirent ses vêtements et l'emmenèrent pour le crucifier.
³² En sortant, ils rencontrèrent un homme de Cyrène, nommé Simon, qu'ils réquisitionnèrent pour porter sa croix.
³³ Puis, étant arrivés à un lieu dit Golgotha, c'est-à-dire lieu du Crâne, ils lui donnèrent à boire du vin mêlé de fiel ; mais, l'ayant goûté, il ne voulut pas boire.
³⁵ Quand ils l'eurent crucifié, ils se partagèrent ses vêtements en les tirant au sort.
³⁶ Et, s'étant assis, ils le gardaient.
³⁷ Au-dessus de sa tête ils mirent un écriteau indiquant la cause de sa condamnation : "Celui-ci est Jésus, le roi des Juifs."
³⁸ Alors on crucifia avec lui deux brigands, l'un à droite et l'autre à gauche.
³⁹ Et les passants l'injuriaient en hochant la tête
⁴⁰ et disant : "Toi, qui détruis le sanctuaire et le rebâtis en trois jours, sauve-toi toi-même, si tu es Fils de Dieu et descends de la croix !"
⁴¹ De même, les grands prêtres aussi se moquaient de lui, avec les scribes et les anciens, disant :
⁴² "Il en a sauvé d'autres, il ne peut se sauver lui-même ! Il est roi d'Israël, qu'il descende maintenant de la croix, et nous croirons en lui !
⁴³ Il a mis sa confiance en Dieu ; s'il l'aime, qu'il le délivre maintenant, car il a dit : Je suis Fils de Dieu ! "
⁴⁴ Les brigands aussi, crucifiés avec lui, l'insultaient de la même manière.
⁴⁵ Depuis la sixième heure jusqu'à la neuvième, il se fit des ténèbres sur toute la terre.
⁴⁶ Vers la neuvième heure, Jésus s'écria d'une voix forte : Eli, Eli, lema sabachtani ?" c'est-à-dire "Mon Dieu, mon Dieu, pourquoi m'avez-vous abandonné ?"
⁴⁷ Quelques-uns de ceux qui étaient là, l'ayant entendu, disaient : " Il appelle Élie."
⁴⁸ Et aussitôt l'un d'eux courut prendre une éponge qu'il imbiba de vinaigre, et, l'ayant mise au bout d'un roseau, il lui présenta à boire.
⁴⁹ Mais les autres disaient : "laisse ! que nous voyions si Élie va venir le sauver."
⁵⁰ Jésus poussa de nouveau un grand cri et rendit l'esprit.
⁵¹ Et voilà que le voile du sanctuaire se fendit en deux, du haut en bas, la terre trembla, les rochers se fendirent,
⁵² les sépulcres s'ouvrirent et les corps de beaucoup de saints défunts ressuscitèrent.
⁵³ Et, sortis des sépulcres, après sa résurrection, ils entrèrent dans la ville sainte et apparurent à beaucoup.
⁵⁴ Le centurion et ceux qui, avec lui, gardaient Jésus, voyant le tremblement de terre et ce qui se passait, furent saisis d'une grande frayeur et dirent : "vraiment, c'était le Fils de Dieu."
⁵⁵ Il y avait là plusieurs femmes qui regardaient à distance ; elles avaient suivi Jésus depuis la Galilée, pour le servir ;
⁵⁶ parmi elles étaient Marie la Magdaléenne, Marie mère de Jacques et de Joseph, et la mère des fils de Zébédée.
⁵⁷ Le soir venu, vint un homme riche d'Arimathie, nommé Joseph, qui lui aussi était devenu disciple de Jésus.
⁵⁸ Il alla trouver Pilate pour demander le corps de Jésus ; Pilate alors ordonna qu'on le lui remit.
⁵⁹ Joseph prit le corps, l'enveloppa d'un linceul blanc,
⁶⁰ et le déposa dans son sépulcre neuf, qu'il avait fait tailler dans le roc ; puis, ayant roulé une grosse pierre à l'entrée du sépulcre, il s'en alla.
⁶¹ Or Marie la Magdaléenne et l'autre Marie étaient là, assises en face du tombeau.
⁶² Le lendemain, qui était (le jour) après la Préparation, les grands prêtres et les Pharisiens allèrent ensemble trouver Pilate
⁶³ et dirent : "Seigneur, nous nous sommes rappelés que cet imposteur, lorsqu'il vivait encore, a dit : "dans trois jours je ressusciterai."
⁶⁴ Commandez donc que le tombeau soit bien gardé jusqu'au troisième jour, de peur que ses disciples ne viennent le dérober et disent au peuple : " Il est ressuscité des morts. "cette dernière imposture serait pire que la première."
⁶⁵ Pilate leur dit : "vous avez une garde : allez, gardez-le comme vous l'entendez."
⁶⁶ Ils s'en allèrent donc et ils s'assurèrent du tombeau en scellant la pierre, avec une garde.

Matthieu 28

¹ Après le sabbat, à l'aube du premier jour de la semaine, Marie la Magdaléenne et l'autre Marie allèrent voir le tombeau.
² Et voilà qu'il se fit un grand tremblement de terre, car un ange du Seigneur, étant descendu du ciel, s'approcha, roula la pierre, et s'assit dessus.
³ Son aspect était (brillant) comme l'éclair, et son vêtement blanc comme la neige.
⁴ Dans l'effroi qu'ils en eurent, les gardes tremblèrent et devinrent comme morts.
⁵ Et prenant la parole, l'ange dit aux femmes : "vous, ne craignez pas ; car je sais que vous cherchez Jésus le crucifié.
⁶ Il n'est point ici, car il est ressuscité comme il l'avait dit. Venez et voyez la place où il était ;
⁷ et hâtez-vous d'aller dire à ses disciples : Il est ressuscité des morts, et voici qu'il vous précède en Galilée ; c'est là que vous le verrez. Je vous l'ai dit."
⁸ Elles sortirent vite du sépulcre avec crainte et grande joie, et elles coururent porter la nouvelle à ses disciples.
⁹ Et voilà que Jésus se présenta devant elles et leur dit : "salut ! "Elles s'approchèrent, saisirent ses pieds et se prosternèrent devant lui.
¹⁰ Alors Jésus leur dit : "ne craignez point ; allez annoncer à mes frères qu'ils ont à partir pour la Galilée : c'est là qu'ils me verront."
¹¹ Pendant qu'elles étaient en chemin, voilà que quelques-uns des gardes virent dans la ville et annoncèrent aux grands prêtres tout ce qui était arrivé.
¹² Après s'être assemblés avec les anciens et avoir pris une délibération, ils donnèrent une grosse somme d'argent aux soldats,
¹³ en leur disant : dites : Ses disciples sont venus de nuit et l'ont dérobé pendant que nous dormions. ‒
¹⁴ Que si cela arrive aux oreilles du gouverneur, nous l'apaiserons et nous ferons que vous n'ayez pas d'ennuis."
¹⁵ Eux prirent l'argent et firent selon la leçon reçue. Et ce bruit s'est répandu parmi les Juifs jusqu'aujourd'hui.
¹⁶ Les onze disciples s'en allèrent en Galilée, sur la montagne que Jésus leur avait désignée.
¹⁷ En le voyant, ils se prosternèrent ; mais il y en eut qui doutèrent.
¹⁸ Et Jésus s'approchant leur parla ainsi : "toutes puissance m'a été donnée dans le ciel et sur la terre.
¹⁹ Allez donc, enseignez toutes les nations, les baptisant au nom du Père, du Fil et du Saint-Esprit,
²⁰ leur apprenant à observer tout ce que je vous ai commandé. Et moi, je suis avec vous toujours jusqu'à la fin du monde."

¹ And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,
² Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.
³ Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,
⁴ And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him.
⁵ But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.
⁶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
⁷ There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat at meat.
⁸ But when his disciples saw it, they had indignation, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
⁹ For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.
¹⁰ When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.
¹¹ For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.
¹² For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.
¹³ Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.
¹⁴ Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
¹⁵ And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
¹⁶ And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
¹⁷ Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?
¹⁸ And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.
¹⁹ And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.
²⁰ Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
²¹ And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
²² And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?
²³ And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.
²⁴ The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.
²⁵ Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.
²⁶ And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
²⁷ And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
²⁸ For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
²⁹ But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom.
³⁰ And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.
³¹ Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.
³² But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.
³³ Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended.
³⁴ Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.
³⁵ Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.
³⁶ Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.
³⁷ And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.
³⁸ Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.
³⁹ And he went a little farther, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.
⁴⁰ And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?
⁴¹ Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
⁴² He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.
⁴³ And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.
⁴⁴ And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.
⁴⁵ Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take your rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.
⁴⁶ Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.
⁴⁷ And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
⁴⁸ Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.
⁴⁹ And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.
⁵⁰ And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus and took him.
⁵¹ And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest's, and smote off his ear.
⁵² Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
⁵³ Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?
⁵⁴ But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
⁵⁵ In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.
⁵⁶ But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
⁵⁷ And they that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.
⁵⁸ But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.
⁵⁹ Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;
⁶⁰ But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,
⁶¹ And said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.
⁶² And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what is it which these witness against thee?
⁶³ But Jesus held his peace, And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.
⁶⁴ Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.
⁶⁵ Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.
⁶⁶ What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.
⁶⁷ Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote him with the palms of their hands,
⁶⁸ Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?
⁶⁹ Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.
⁷⁰ But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.
⁷¹ And when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him, and said unto them that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.
⁷² And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.
⁷³ And after a while came unto him they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.
⁷⁴ Then began he to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.
⁷⁵ And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

Matthieu 27

¹ When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death:
² And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
³ Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,
⁴ Saying, I have sinned in that I have betrayed the innocent blood. And they said, What is that to us? see thou to that.
⁵ And he cast down the pieces of silver in the temple, and departed, and went and hanged himself.
⁶ And the chief priests took the silver pieces, and said, It is not lawful for to put them into the treasury, because it is the price of blood.
⁷ And they took counsel, and bought with them the potter's field, to bury strangers in.
⁸ Wherefore that field was called, The field of blood, unto this day.
⁹ Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value;
¹⁰ And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me.
¹¹ And Jesus stood before the governor: and the governor asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest.
¹² And when he was accused of the chief priests and elders, he answered nothing.
¹³ Then said Pilate unto him, Hearest thou not how many things they witness against thee?
¹⁴ And he answered him to never a word; insomuch that the governor marvelled greatly.
¹⁵ Now at that feast the governor was wont to release unto the people a prisoner, whom they would.
¹⁶ And they had then a notable prisoner, called Barabbas.
¹⁷ Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ?
¹⁸ For he knew that for envy they had delivered him.
¹⁹ When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
²⁰ But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask Barabbas, and destroy Jesus.
²¹ The governor answered and said unto them, Whether of the twain will ye that I release unto you? They said, Barabbas.
²² Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
²³ And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.
²⁴ When Pilate saw that he could prevail nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, he took water, and washed his hands before the multitude, saying, I am innocent of the blood of this just person: see ye to it.
²⁵ Then answered all the people, and said, His blood be on us, and on our children.
²⁶ Then released he Barabbas unto them: and when he had scourged Jesus, he delivered him to be crucified.
²⁷ Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the common hall, and gathered unto him the whole band of soldiers.
²⁸ And they stripped him, and put on him a scarlet robe.
²⁹ And when they had platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!
³⁰ And they spit upon him, and took the reed, and smote him on the head.
³¹ And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.
³² And as they came out, they found a man of Cyrene, Simon by name: him they compelled to bear his cross.
³³ And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull,
³⁴ They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink.
³⁵ And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.
³⁶ And sitting down they watched him there;
³⁷ And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
³⁸ Then were there two thieves crucified with him, one on the right hand, and another on the left.
³⁹ And they that passed by reviled him, wagging their heads,
⁴⁰ And saying, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save thyself. If thou be the Son of God, come down from the cross.
⁴¹ Likewise also the chief priests mocking him, with the scribes and elders, said,
⁴² He saved others; himself he cannot save. If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.
⁴³ He trusted in God; let him deliver him now, if he will have him: for he said, I am the Son of God.
⁴⁴ The thieves also, which were crucified with him, cast the same in his teeth.
⁴⁵ Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour.
⁴⁶ And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?
⁴⁷ Some of them that stood there, when they heard that, said, This man calleth for Elias.
⁴⁸ And straightway one of them ran, and took a spunge, and filled it with vinegar, and put it on a reed, and gave him to drink.
⁴⁹ The rest said, Let be, let us see whether Elias will come to save him.
⁵⁰ Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost.
⁵¹ And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;
⁵² And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose,
⁵³ And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many.
⁵⁴ Now when the centurion, and they that were with him, watching Jesus, saw the earthquake, and those things that were done, they feared greatly, saying, Truly this was the Son of God.
⁵⁵ And many women were there beholding afar off, which followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering unto him:
⁵⁶ Among which was Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joses, and the mother of Zebedees children.
⁵⁷ When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:
⁵⁸ He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered.
⁵⁹ And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth,
⁶⁰ And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed.
⁶¹ And there was Mary Magdalene, and the other Mary, sitting over against the sepulchre.
⁶² Now the next day, that followed the day of the preparation, the chief priests and Pharisees came together unto Pilate,
⁶³ Saying, Sir, we remember that that deceiver said, while he was yet alive, After three days I will rise again.
⁶⁴ Command therefore that the sepulchre be made sure until the third day, lest his disciples come by night, and steal him away, and say unto the people, He is risen from the dead: so the last error shall be worse than the first.
⁶⁵ Pilate said unto them, Ye have a watch: go your way, make it as sure as ye can.
⁶⁶ So they went, and made the sepulchre sure, sealing the stone, and setting a watch.

Matthieu 28

¹ In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.
² And, behold, there was a great earthquake: for the angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone from the door, and sat upon it.
³ His countenance was like lightning, and his raiment white as snow:
⁴ And for fear of him the keepers did shake, and became as dead men.
⁵ And the angel answered and said unto the women, Fear not ye: for I know that ye seek Jesus, which was crucified.
⁶ He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
⁷ And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.
⁸ And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy; and did run to bring his disciples word.
⁹ And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, All hail. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.
¹⁰ Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.
¹¹ Now when they were going, behold, some of the watch came into the city, and shewed unto the chief priests all the things that were done.
¹² And when they were assembled with the elders, and had taken counsel, they gave large money unto the soldiers,
¹³ Saying, Say ye, His disciples came by night, and stole him away while we slept.
¹⁴ And if this come to the governor's ears, we will persuade him, and secure you.
¹⁵ So they took the money, and did as they were taught: and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
¹⁶ Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, into a mountain where Jesus had appointed them.
¹⁷ And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted.
¹⁸ And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
¹⁹ Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
²⁰ Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
