KJV ¹ Now there was a certain man of Ramathaimzophim, of mount Ephraim, and his name was Elkanah, the son of Jeroham, the son of Elihu, the son of Tohu, the son of Zuph, an Ephrathite:

KJV ² And he had two wives; the name of the one was Hannah, and the name of the other Peninnah: and Peninnah had children, but Hannah had no children.

MAR ² Qui avait deux femmes, dont l'une s'appelait Anne, et l'autre Pennina. Et Pennina avait des enfants, mais Anne n'en avait point.

WLC ² וְלוֹ֙ שְׁתֵּ֣י נָשִׁ֔ים שֵׁ֤ם אַחַת֙ חַנָּ֔ה וְשֵׁ֥ם הַשֵּׁנִ֖ית פְּנִנָּ֑ה וַיְהִ֤י לִפְנִנָּה֙ יְלָדִ֔ים וּלְחַנָּ֖ה אֵ֥ין יְלָדִֽים׃

KJV ³ And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.

MAR ³ Or cet homme-là montait tous les ans, de sa ville pour adorer l'Eternel des armées, et lui sacrifier à Silo ; et là étaient les deux fils d'Héli, Hophni et Phinées, Sacrificateurs de l'Eternel.

WLC ³ וְעָלָה֩ הָאִ֨ישׁ הַה֤וּא מֵֽעִירוֹ֙ מִיָּמִ֣ים ׀ יָמִ֔ימָה לְהִֽשְׁתַּחֲוֺ֧ת וְלִזְבֹּ֛חַ לַיהוָ֥ה צְבָא֖וֹת בְּשִׁלֹ֑ה וְשָׁ֞ם שְׁנֵ֣י בְנֵֽי־ עֵלִ֗י חָפְנִי֙ וּפִ֣נְחָ֔ס כֹּהֲנִ֖ים לַיהוָֽה׃

KJV ⁴ And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

MAR ⁴ Et le jour qu'Elkana sacrifiait il donnait des portions à Pennina sa femme, et à tous les fils et filles qu'il avait d'elle.

WLC ⁴ וַיְהִ֣י הַיּ֔וֹם וַיִּזְבַּ֖ח אֶלְקָנָ֑ה וְנָתַ֞ן לִפְנִנָּ֣ה אִשְׁתּ֗וֹ וּֽלְכָל־ בָּנֶ֛יהָ וּבְנוֹתֶ֖יהָ מָנֽוֹת׃

KJV ⁵ But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.

MAR ⁵ Mais il donnait à Anne une portion honorable ; car il aimait Anne ; mais l'Eternel l'avait rendue stérile.

WLC ⁵ וּלְחַנָּ֕ה יִתֵּ֛ן מָנָ֥ה אַחַ֖ת אַפָּ֑יִם כִּ֤י אֶת־ חַנָּה֙ אָהֵ֔ב וַֽיהוָ֖ה סָגַ֥ר רַחְמָֽהּ׃

KJV ⁶ And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.

MAR ⁶ Et [Pennina] qui lui portait envie, la piquait, même fort aigrement, car elle faisait un grand bruit de ce que l'Eternel l'avait rendue stérile.

WLC ⁶ וְכִֽעֲסַ֤תָּה צָֽרָתָהּ֙ גַּם־ כַּ֔עַס בַּעֲב֖וּר הַרְּעִמָ֑הּ כִּֽי־ סָגַ֥ר יְהוָ֖ה בְּעַ֥ד רַחְמָֽהּ׃

KJV ⁷ And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.

MAR ⁷ [Elkana] faisait [donc] ainsi tous les ans. Mais quand Anne montait en la maison de l'Eternel, [Pennina] la chagrinait en cette même manière, et Anne pleurait, et ne mangeait point.

WLC ⁷ וְכֵ֨ן יַעֲשֶׂ֜ה שָׁנָ֣ה בְשָׁנָ֗ה מִדֵּ֤י עֲלֹתָהּ֙ בְּבֵ֣ית יְהוָ֔ה כֵּ֖ן תַּכְעִסֶ֑נָּה וַתִּבְכֶּ֖ה וְלֹ֥א תֹאכַֽל׃

KJV ⁸ Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

MAR ⁸ Et Elkana son mari lui dit : Anne, pourquoi pleures-tu ? et pourquoi ne manges-tu point ? et pourquoi ton cœur est-il triste ? Ne te vaux-je pas mieux que dix fils ?

WLC ⁸ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר לָ֜הּ אֶלְקָנָ֣ה אִישָׁ֗הּ חַנָּה֙ לָ֣מֶה תִבְכִּ֗י וְלָ֙מֶה֙ לֹ֣א תֹֽאכְלִ֔י וְלָ֖מֶה יֵרַ֣ע לְבָבֵ֑ךְ הֲל֤וֹא אָֽנֹכִי֙ ט֣וֹב לָ֔ךְ מֵעֲשָׂרָ֖ה בָּנִֽים׃

KJV ⁹ So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

MAR ⁹ Et Anne se leva, après avoir mangé et bu à Silo, et Héli le Sacrificateur était assis sur un siège auprès d'un des poteaux du Tabernacle de l'Eternel.

WLC ⁹ וַתָּ֣קָם חַנָּ֔ה אַחֲרֵ֛י אָכְלָ֥ה בְשִׁלֹ֖ה וְאַחֲרֵ֣י שָׁתֹ֑ה וְעֵלִ֣י הַכֹּהֵ֗ן יֹשֵׁב֙ עַל־ הַכִּסֵּ֔א עַל־ מְזוּזַ֖ת הֵיכַ֥ל יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ¹⁰ And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the LORD, and wept sore.

MAR ¹⁰ Elle donc ayant le coeur plein d'amertume, pria l'Eternel en pleurant abondamment.

WLC ¹⁰ וְהִ֖יא מָ֣רַת נָ֑פֶשׁ וַתִּתְפַּלֵּ֥ל עַל־ יְהוָ֖ה וּבָכֹ֥ה תִבְכֶּֽה׃

KJV ¹¹ And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

MAR ¹¹ Et elle fit un voeu, en disant : Eternel des armées, si tu regardes attentivement l'affliction de ta servante, et si tu te souviens de moi, et n'oublies point ta servante, et que tu donnes à ta servante un enfant mâle, je le donnerai à l'Eternel pour tous les jours de sa vie ; et aucun rasoir ne passera sur sa tête.

WLC ¹¹ וַתִּדֹּ֨ר נֶ֜דֶר וַתֹּאמַ֗ר יְהוָ֨ה צְבָא֜וֹת אִם־ רָאֹ֥ה תִרְאֶ֣ה ׀ בָּעֳנִ֣י אֲמָתֶ֗ךָ וּזְכַרְתַּ֙נִי֙ וְלֹֽא־ תִשְׁכַּ֣ח אֶת־ אֲמָתֶ֔ךָ וְנָתַתָּ֥ה לַאֲמָתְךָ֖ זֶ֣רַע אֲנָשִׁ֑ים וּנְתַתִּ֤יו לַֽיהוָה֙ כָּל־ יְמֵ֣י חַיָּ֔יו וּמוֹרָ֖ה לֹא־ יַעֲלֶ֥ה עַל־ רֹאשֽׁוֹ׃

KJV ¹² And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.

MAR ¹² Et il arriva comme elle continuait de faire sa prière devant l'Eternel, qu'Héli prenait garde à sa bouche.

WLC ¹² וְהָיָה֙ כִּ֣י הִרְבְּתָ֔ה לְהִתְפַּלֵּ֖ל לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וְעֵלִ֖י שֹׁמֵ֥ר אֶת־ פִּֽיהָ׃

KJV ¹³ Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken.

MAR ¹³ Or Anne parlait en son cœur ; elle ne faisait que remuer ses lèvres, et on n'entendait point sa voix ; c'est pourquoi Héli estima qu'elle était ivre.

WLC ¹³ וְחַנָּ֗ה הִ֚יא מְדַבֶּ֣רֶת עַל־ לִבָּ֔הּ רַ֚ק שְׂפָתֶ֣יהָ נָּע֔וֹת וְקוֹלָ֖הּ לֹ֣א יִשָּׁמֵ֑עַ וַיַּחְשְׁבֶ֥הָ עֵלִ֖י לְשִׁכֹּרָֽה׃

KJV ¹⁴ And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee.

MAR ¹⁴ Et Héli lui dit : Jusqu'à quand seras-tu ivre ? va reposer ton vin.

WLC ¹⁴ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר אֵלֶ֙יהָ֙ עֵלִ֔י עַד־ מָתַ֖י תִּשְׁתַּכָּרִ֑ין הָסִ֥ירִי אֶת־ יֵינֵ֖ךְ מֵעָלָֽיִךְ׃

KJV ¹⁵ And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.

MAR ¹⁵ Mais Anne répondit, et dit : Je ne suis point ivre, Monseigneur ; je suis une femme affligée d'esprit ; je n'ai bu ni vin ni cervoise, mais j'ai épandu mon âme devant l'Eternel.

WLC ¹⁵ וַתַּ֨עַן חַנָּ֤ה וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ לֹ֣א אֲדֹנִ֔י אִשָּׁ֤ה קְשַׁת־ ר֙וּחַ֙ אָנֹ֔כִי וְיַ֥יִן וְשֵׁכָ֖ר לֹ֣א שָׁתִ֑יתִי וָאֶשְׁפֹּ֥ךְ אֶת־ נַפְשִׁ֖י לִפְנֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ¹⁶ Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.

MAR ¹⁶ Ne mets point ta servante au rang d'une femme qui ne vaille rien ; car c'est dans la grandeur de ma douleur et de mon affliction que j'ai parlé jusqu'à présent.

WLC ¹⁶ אַל־ תִּתֵּן֙ אֶת־ אֲמָ֣תְךָ֔ לִפְנֵ֖י בַּת־ בְּלִיָּ֑עַל כִּֽי־ מֵרֹ֥ב שִׂיחִ֛י וְכַעְסִ֖י דִּבַּ֥רְתִּי עַד־ הֵֽנָּה׃

KJV ¹⁷ Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

MAR ¹⁷ Alors Héli répondit, et dit : Va en paix ; et le Dieu d'Israël te veuille accorder la demande que tu lui as faite.

WLC ¹⁷ וַיַּ֧עַן עֵלִ֛י וַיֹּ֖אמֶר לְכִ֣י לְשָׁל֑וֹם וֵאלֹהֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֗ל יִתֵּן֙ אֶת־ שֵׁ֣לָתֵ֔ךְ אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁאַ֖לְתְּ מֵעִמּֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹⁸ And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.

MAR ¹⁸ Et elle dit : Que ta servante trouve grâce devant tes yeux. Puis cette femme s'en alla son chemin, et elle mangea, et son visage ne fut plus tel [qu'auparavant].

WLC ¹⁸ וַתֹּ֕אמֶר תִּמְצָ֧א שִׁפְחָתְךָ֛ חֵ֖ן בְּעֵינֶ֑יךָ וַתֵּ֨לֶךְ הָאִשָּׁ֤ה לְדַרְכָּהּ֙ וַתֹּאכַ֔ל וּפָנֶ֥יהָ לֹא־ הָיוּ־ לָ֖הּ עֽוֹד׃

KJV ¹⁹ And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.

MAR ¹⁹ Après cela ils se levèrent de bon matin, et se prosternèrent devant l'Eternel ; puis ils s'en retournèrent, et vinrent en leur maison à Rama. Et Elkana connut Anne sa femme ; et l'Eternel se souvint d'elle.

WLC ¹⁹ וַיַּשְׁכִּ֣מוּ בַבֹּ֗קֶר וַיִּֽשְׁתַּחֲווּ֙ לִפְנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וַיָּשֻׁ֛בוּ וַיָּבֹ֥אוּ אֶל־ בֵּיתָ֖ם הָרָמָ֑תָה וַיֵּ֤דַע אֶלְקָנָה֙ אֶת־ חַנָּ֣ה אִשְׁתּ֔וֹ וַיִּֽזְכְּרֶ֖הָ יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ²⁰ Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.

MAR ²⁰ Il arriva donc quelque temps après, qu'Anne conçut, et qu'elle enfanta un fils ; et elle le nomma Samuel, parce, [dit-elle], que je l'ai demandé à l'Eternel.

KJV ²¹ And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.

MAR ²¹ Puis Elkana son mari monta avec toute sa maison, pour offrir à l'Eternel le sacrifice solennel et son voeu.

WLC ²¹ וַיַּ֛עַל הָאִ֥ישׁ אֶלְקָנָ֖ה וְכָל־ בֵּית֑וֹ לִזְבֹּ֧חַ לַֽיהוָ֛ה אֶת־ זֶ֥בַח הַיָּמִ֖ים וְאֶת־ נִדְרֽוֹ׃

KJV ²² But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.

MAR ²² Mais Anne n'y monta pas ; car elle dit à son mari : [Je n'y irai point] jusqu'à ce que le petit enfant soit sevré ; [et] alors je le mènerai, afin qu'il soit présenté devant l'Eternel, et qu'il demeure toujours-là.

WLC ²² וְחַנָּ֖ה לֹ֣א עָלָ֑תָה כִּֽי־ אָמְרָ֣ה לְאִישָׁ֗הּ עַ֣ד יִגָּמֵ֤ל הַנַּ֙עַר֙ וַהֲבִאֹתִ֗יו וְנִרְאָה֙ אֶת־ פְּנֵ֣י יְהוָ֔ה וְיָ֥שַׁב שָׁ֖ם עַד־ עוֹלָֽם׃

KJV ²³ And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.

MAR ²³ Et Elkana son mari lui dit : Fais ce qui te semblera bon ; demeure jusqu'à ce que tu l'aies sevré ; seulement que l'Eternel accomplisse sa parole. Ainsi cette femme demeura, et allaita son fils, jusqu'à ce qu'elle l'eut sevré.

WLC ²³ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר לָהּ֩ אֶלְקָנָ֨ה אִישָׁ֜הּ עֲשִׂ֧י הַטּ֣וֹב בְּעֵינַ֗יִךְ שְׁבִי֙ עַד־ גָּמְלֵ֣ךְ אֹת֔וֹ אַ֛ךְ יָקֵ֥ם יְהוָ֖ה אֶת־ דְּבָר֑וֹ וַתֵּ֤שֶׁב הָֽאִשָּׁה֙ וַתֵּ֣ינֶק אֶת־ בְּנָ֔הּ עַד־ גָּמְלָ֖הּ אֹתֽוֹ׃

KJV ²⁴ And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.

MAR ²⁴ Et sitôt qu'elle l'eut sevré elle le fit monter avec elle, [et ayant pris] trois veaux, et un Epha de farine, et un baril de vin, elle le mena dans la maison de l'Eternel à Silo ; et l'enfant était fort petit.

WLC ²⁴ וַתַּעֲלֵ֨הוּ עִמָּ֜הּ כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר גְּמָלַ֗תּוּ בְּפָרִ֤ים שְׁלֹשָׁה֙ וְאֵיפָ֨ה אַחַ֥ת קֶ֙מַח֙ וְנֵ֣בֶל יַ֔יִן וַתְּבִאֵ֥הוּ בֵית־ יְהוָ֖ה שִׁל֑וֹ וְהַנַּ֖עַר נָֽעַר׃

KJV ²⁵ And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.

MAR ²⁵ Puis ils égorgèrent un veau, et ils amenèrent l'enfant à Héli.

WLC ²⁵ וַֽיִּשְׁחֲט֖וּ אֶת־ הַפָּ֑ר וַיָּבִ֥יאוּ אֶת־ הַנַּ֖עַר אֶל־ עֵלִֽי׃

KJV ²⁶ And she said, Oh my lord, as thy soul liveth, my lord, I am the woman that stood by thee here, praying unto the LORD.

MAR ²⁶ Et elle dit : Hélas, Monseigneur ! aussi vrai que ton âme vit, Monseigneur, je suis cette femme qui me tenais en ta présence pour prier l'Eternel.

WLC ²⁶ וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ בִּ֣י אֲדֹנִ֔י חֵ֥י נַפְשְׁךָ֖ אֲדֹנִ֑י אֲנִ֣י הָאִשָּׁ֗ה הַנִּצֶּ֤בֶת עִמְּכָה֙ בָּזֶ֔ה לְהִתְפַּלֵּ֖ל אֶל־ יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ²⁷ For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:

MAR ²⁷ J'ai prié pour avoir cet enfant ; et l'Eternel m'a accordé la demande que je lui ai faite.

WLC ²⁷ אֶל־ הַנַּ֥עַר הַזֶּ֖ה הִתְפַּלָּ֑לְתִּי וַיִּתֵּ֨ן יְהוָ֥ה לִי֙ אֶת־ שְׁאֵ֣לָתִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר שָׁאַ֖לְתִּי מֵעִמּֽוֹ׃

KJV ²⁸ Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

MAR ²⁸ C'est pourquoi je l'ai prêté à l'Eternel ; il sera prêté à l'Eternel pour tous les jours de sa vie. Et il se prosterna là devant l'Eternel.

WLC ²⁸ וְגַ֣ם אָנֹכִ֗י הִשְׁאִלְתִּ֙הוּ֙ לַֽיהוָ֔ה כָּל־ הַיָּמִים֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר הָיָ֔ה ה֥וּא שָׁא֖וּל לַֽיהוָ֑ה וַיִּשְׁתַּ֥חוּ שָׁ֖ם לַיהוָֽה׃

KJV ¹ And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

MAR ¹ Alors Anne pria, et dit : Mon cœur s'est réjoui en l'Eternel ; ma corne a été élevée par l'Eternel ; ma bouche s'est ouverte sur mes ennemis, parce que je me suis réjouie de ton salut.

WLC ¹ וַתִּתְפַּלֵּ֤ל חַנָּה֙ וַתֹּאמַ֔ר עָלַ֤ץ לִבִּי֙ בַּֽיהוָ֔ה רָ֥מָה קַרְנִ֖י בַּֽיהוָ֑ה רָ֤חַב פִּי֙ עַל־ א֣וֹיְבַ֔י כִּ֥י שָׂמַ֖חְתִּי בִּישׁוּעָתֶֽךָ׃

KJV ² There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

MAR ² Il n'y a nul saint comme l'Eternel ; car il n'y en a point d'autre que toi, et il n'y a point de Rocher tel que notre Dieu.

WLC ² אֵין־ קָד֥וֹשׁ כַּיהוָ֖ה כִּ֣י אֵ֣ין בִּלְתֶּ֑ךָ וְאֵ֥ין צ֖וּר כֵּאלֹהֵֽינוּ׃

KJV ³ Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

MAR ³ Ne proférez point tant de paroles hautaines, hautaines ; qu'il ne sorte point de votre bouche des paroles rudes ; car l'Eternel est le [Dieu] Fort des sciences ; c'est à lui à peser les entreprises.

WLC ³ אַל־ תַּרְבּ֤וּ תְדַבְּרוּ֙ גְּבֹהָ֣ה גְבֹהָ֔ה יֵצֵ֥א עָתָ֖ק מִפִּיכֶ֑ם כִּ֣י אֵ֤ל דֵּעוֹת֙ יְהוָ֔ה נִתְכְּנ֖וּ עֲלִלֽוֹת׃

KJV ⁴ The bows of the mighty men are broken, and they that stumbled are girded with strength.

MAR ⁴ L'arc des forts a été brisé ; mais ceux qui ne faisaient que chanceler, ont été ceints de force.

WLC ⁴ קֶ֥שֶׁת גִּבֹּרִ֖ים חַתִּ֑ים וְנִכְשָׁלִ֖ים אָ֥זְרוּ חָֽיִל׃

KJV ⁵ They that were full have hired out themselves for bread; and they that were hungry ceased: so that the barren hath born seven; and she that hath many children is waxed feeble.

MAR ⁵ Ceux qui avaient accoutumé d'être rassasiés, se sont loués pour du pain ; mais les affamés ont cessé [de l'être], et même la stérile en a enfanté sept ; et celle qui avait beaucoup de fils est devenue languissante.

WLC ⁵ שְׂבֵעִ֤ים בַּלֶּ֙חֶם֙ נִשְׂכָּ֔רוּ וּרְעֵבִ֖ים חָדֵ֑לּוּ עַד־ עֲקָרָה֙ יָלְדָ֣ה שִׁבְעָ֔ה וְרַבַּ֥ת בָּנִ֖ים אֻמְלָֽלָה׃

KJV ⁶ The LORD killeth, and maketh alive: he bringeth down to the grave, and bringeth up.

KJV ⁷ The LORD maketh poor, and maketh rich: he bringeth low, and lifteth up.

KJV ⁸ He raiseth up the poor out of the dust, and lifteth up the beggar from the dunghill, to set them among princes, and to make them inherit the throne of glory: for the pillars of the earth are the LORD's, and he hath set the world upon them.

MAR ⁸ Il élève le pauvre de la poudre, et il tire le misérable de dessus le fumier, pour le faire asseoir avec les principaux, et il leur donne en héritage un trône de gloire ; car les fondements de la terre sont à l'Eternel, et il a posé sur eux la terre habitable.

WLC ⁸ מֵקִ֨ים מֵעָפָ֜ר דָּ֗ל מֵֽאַשְׁפֹּת֙ יָרִ֣ים אֶבְי֔וֹן לְהוֹשִׁיב֙ עִם־ נְדִיבִ֔ים וְכִסֵּ֥א כָב֖וֹד יַנְחִלֵ֑ם כִּ֤י לַֽיהוָה֙ מְצֻ֣קֵי אֶ֔רֶץ וַיָּ֥שֶׁת עֲלֵיהֶ֖ם תֵּבֵֽל׃

KJV ⁹ He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

KJV ¹⁰ The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed.

KJV ¹¹ And Elkanah went to Ramah to his house. And the child did minister unto the LORD before Eli the priest.

KJV ¹² Now the sons of Eli were sons of Belial; they knew not the LORD.

KJV ¹³ And the priest's custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;

WLC ¹³ וּמִשְׁפַּ֥ט הַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים אֶת־ הָעָ֑ם כָּל־ אִ֞ישׁ זֹבֵ֣חַ זֶ֗בַח וּבָ֨א נַ֤עַר הַכֹּהֵן֙ כְּבַשֵּׁ֣ל הַבָּשָׂ֔ר וְהַמַּזְלֵ֛ג שְׁלֹ֥שׁ־ הַשִּׁנַּ֖יִם בְּיָדֽוֹ׃

KJV ¹⁴ And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.

WLC ¹⁴ וְהִכָּ֨ה בַכִּיּ֜וֹר א֣וֹ בַדּ֗וּד א֤וֹ בַקַּלַּ֙חַת֙ א֣וֹ בַפָּר֔וּר כֹּ֚ל אֲשֶׁ֣ר יַעֲלֶ֣ה הַמַּזְלֵ֔ג יִקַּ֥ח הַכֹּהֵ֖ן בּ֑וֹ כָּ֚כָה יַעֲשׂ֣וּ לְכָל־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל הַבָּאִ֥ים שָׁ֖ם בְּשִׁלֹֽה׃

KJV ¹⁵ Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.

KJV ¹⁶ And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.

KJV ¹⁷ Wherefore the sin of the young men was very great before the LORD: for men abhorred the offering of the LORD.

KJV ¹⁸ But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

KJV ¹⁹ Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year, when she came up with her husband to offer the yearly sacrifice.

KJV ²⁰ And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.

KJV ²¹ And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.

KJV ²² Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

KJV ²³ And he said unto them, Why do ye such things? for I hear of your evil dealings by all this people.

KJV ²⁴ Nay, my sons; for it is no good report that I hear: ye make the LORD's people to transgress.

KJV ²⁵ If one man sin against another, the judge shall judge him: but if a man sin against the LORD, who shall intreat for him? Notwithstanding they hearkened not unto the voice of their father, because the LORD would slay them.

MAR ²⁵ Si un homme a péché contre un autre homme, le Juge en jugera ; mais si quelqu'un pèche contre l'Eternel, qui est-ce qui priera pour lui ? Mais ils n'obéirent point à la voix de leur père, parce que l'Eternel voulait les faire mourir.

KJV ²⁶ And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.

KJV ²⁷ And there came a man of God unto Eli, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Did I plainly appear unto the house of thy father, when they were in Egypt in Pharaoh's house?

KJV ²⁸ And did I choose him out of all the tribes of Israel to be my priest, to offer upon mine altar, to burn incense, to wear an ephod before me? and did I give unto the house of thy father all the offerings made by fire of the children of Israel?

KJV ²⁹ Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have commanded in my habitation; and honourest thy sons above me, to make yourselves fat with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?

MAR ²⁹ Pourquoi avez-vous regimbé contre mon sacrifice, et contre mon oblation que j'ai commandé de faire dans le Tabernacle ? et [pourquoi] as-tu honoré tes fils plus que moi, pour vous engraisser du meilleur de toutes les offrandes d'Israël mon peuple ?

WLC ²⁹ לָ֣מָּה תִבְעֲט֗וּ בְּזִבְחִי֙ וּבְמִנְחָתִ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר צִוִּ֖יתִי מָע֑וֹן וַתְּכַבֵּ֤ד אֶת־ בָּנֶ֙יךָ֙ מִמֶּ֔נִּי לְהַבְרִֽיאֲכֶ֗ם מֵרֵאשִׁ֛ית כָּל־ מִנְחַ֥ת יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל לְעַמִּֽי׃

KJV ³⁰ Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

MAR ³⁰ C'est pourquoi l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël dit : J'avais dit certainement que ta maison et la maison de ton père marcheraient devant moi éternellement ; mais maintenant l'Eternel dit : Il ne sera pas dit que je fasse cela ; car j'honorerai ceux qui m'honorent, mais ceux qui me méprisent seront traités avec le dernier mépris.

KJV ³¹ Behold, the days come, that I will cut off thine arm, and the arm of thy father's house, that there shall not be an old man in thine house.

KJV ³² And thou shalt see an enemy in my habitation, in all the wealth which God shall give Israel: and there shall not be an old man in thine house for ever.

KJV ³³ And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.

KJV ³⁴ And this shall be a sign unto thee, that shall come upon thy two sons, on Hophni and Phinehas; in one day they shall die both of them.

KJV ³⁵ And I will raise me up a faithful priest, that shall do according to that which is in mine heart and in my mind: and I will build him a sure house; and he shall walk before mine anointed for ever.

MAR ³⁵ Et je m'établirai un Sacrificateur assuré ; il fera selon ce qui est en mon cœur, et selon mon âme ; et je lui édifierai une maison assurée, et il marchera à toujours devant mon Oint.

WLC ³⁵ וַהֲקִימֹתִ֥י לִי֙ כֹּהֵ֣ן נֶאֱמָ֔ן כַּאֲשֶׁ֛ר בִּלְבָבִ֥י וּבְנַפְשִׁ֖י יַעֲשֶׂ֑ה וּבָנִ֤יתִי לוֹ֙ בַּ֣יִת נֶאֱמָ֔ן וְהִתְהַלֵּ֥ךְ לִפְנֵֽי־ מְשִׁיחִ֖י כָּל־ הַיָּמִֽים׃

KJV ³⁶ And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left in thine house shall come and crouch to him for a piece of silver and a morsel of bread, and shall say, Put me, I pray thee, into one of the priests' offices, that I may eat a piece of bread.

MAR ³⁶ Et il arrivera que quiconque sera resté de ta maison, viendra se prosterner devant lui pour avoir une pièce d'argent, [et] quelque pain, et dira : Donne-moi une place, je te prie, dans quelqu'une des charges de la Sacrificature, pour manger un morceau de pain.

WLC ³⁶ וְהָיָ֗ה כָּל־ הַנּוֹתָר֙ בְּבֵ֣יתְךָ֔ יָבוֹא֙ לְהִשְׁתַּחֲוֺ֣ת ל֔וֹ לַאֲג֥וֹרַת כֶּ֖סֶף וְכִכַּר־ לָ֑חֶם וְאָמַ֗ר סְפָחֵ֥נִי נָ֛א אֶל־ אַחַ֥ת הַכְּהֻנּ֖וֹת לֶאֱכֹ֥ל פַּת־ לָֽחֶם׃

KJV ¹ And the child Samuel ministered unto the LORD before Eli. And the word of the LORD was precious in those days; there was no open vision.

MAR ¹ Or le jeune garçon Samuel servait l'Eternel en la présence d'Héli ; et la parole de l'Eternel était rare en ces jours-là, et il n'y avait point d'apparition de visions.

WLC ¹ וְהַנַּ֧עַר שְׁמוּאֵ֛ל מְשָׁרֵ֥ת אֶת־ יְהוָ֖ה לִפְנֵ֣י עֵלִ֑י וּדְבַר־ יְהוָ֗ה הָיָ֤ה יָקָר֙ בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵ֔ם אֵ֥ין חָז֖וֹן נִפְרָֽץ׃

KJV ² And it came to pass at that time, when Eli was laid down in his place, and his eyes began to wax dim, that he could not see;

MAR ² Et il arriva un jour, qu'Héli étant couché en son lieu, (or ses yeux commençaient à se ternir, et il ne pouvait voir.)

WLC ² וַֽיְהִי֙ בַּיּ֣וֹם הַה֔וּא וְעֵלִ֖י שֹׁכֵ֣ב בִּמְקֹמ֑וֹ הֵחֵ֣לּוּ כֵה֔וֹת לֹ֥א יוּכַ֖ל לִרְאֽוֹת׃

KJV ³ And ere the lamp of God went out in the temple of the LORD, where the ark of God was, and Samuel was laid down to sleep;

MAR ³ Et avant que les lampes de Dieu fussent éteintes, Samuel étant aussi couché au Tabernacle de l'Eternel, dans lequel était l'Arche de Dieu ;

WLC ³ וְנֵ֤ר אֱלֹהִים֙ טֶ֣רֶם יִכְבֶּ֔ה וּשְׁמוּאֵ֖ל שֹׁכֵ֑ב בְּהֵיכַ֣ל יְהוָ֔ה אֲשֶׁר־ שָׁ֖ם אֲר֥וֹן אֱלֹהִֽים׃

KJV ⁴ That the LORD called Samuel: and he answered, Here am I.

MAR ⁴ L'Eternel appela Samuel ; et il répondit : Me voici.

WLC ⁴ וַיִּקְרָ֧א יְהוָ֛ה אֶל־ שְׁמוּאֵ֖ל וַיֹּ֥אמֶר הִנֵּֽנִי׃

KJV ⁵ And he ran unto Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou calledst me. And he said, I called not; lie down again. And he went and lay down.

MAR ⁵ Et il courut vers Héli, et lui dit : Me voici, car tu m'as appelé ; mais [Héli] dit : Je ne t'ai point appelé, retourne[-t'en], [et] te couche ; et il s'en retourna, et se coucha.

WLC ⁵ וַיָּ֣רָץ אֶל־ עֵלִ֗י וַיֹּ֤אמֶר הִנְנִי֙ כִּֽי־ קָרָ֣אתָ לִּ֔י וַיֹּ֥אמֶר לֹֽא־ קָרָ֖אתִי שׁ֣וּב שְׁכָ֑ב וַיֵּ֖לֶךְ וַיִּשְׁכָּֽב׃

KJV ⁶ And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

MAR ⁶ Et l'Eternel appela encore Samuel ; et Samuel se leva, et s'en alla vers Héli, et lui dit : Me voici, car tu m'as appelé. Et [Héli] dit : Mon fils, je ne t'ai point appelé, retourne[-t'en], [et] te couche.

WLC ⁶ וַיֹּ֣סֶף יְהוָ֗ה קְרֹ֣א עוֹד֮ שְׁמוּאֵל֒ וַיָּ֤קָם שְׁמוּאֵל֙ וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ אֶל־ עֵלִ֔י וַיֹּ֣אמֶר הִנְנִ֔י כִּ֥י קָרָ֖אתָ לִ֑י וַיֹּ֛אמֶר לֹֽא־ קָרָ֥אתִי בְנִ֖י שׁ֥וּב שְׁכָֽב׃

KJV ⁷ Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.

MAR ⁷ Or Samuel ne connaissait point encore l'Eternel, et la parole de l'Eternel ne lui avait point encore été révélée.

WLC ⁷ וּשְׁמוּאֵ֕ל טֶ֖רֶם יָדַ֣ע אֶת־ יְהוָ֑ה וְטֶ֛רֶם יִגָּלֶ֥ה אֵלָ֖יו דְּבַר־ יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ⁸ And the LORD called Samuel again the third time. And he arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And Eli perceived that the LORD had called the child.

MAR ⁸ Et l'Eternel appela encore Samuel pour la troisième fois ; et [Samuel] se leva, et s'en alla vers Héli, et dit : Me voici, car tu m'as appelé ; [et] Héli reconnut que l'Eternel appelait ce jeune garçon.

WLC ⁸ וַיֹּ֨סֶף יְהוָ֥ה קְרֹא־ שְׁמוּאֵל֮ בַּשְּׁלִשִׁית֒ וַיָּ֙קָם֙ וַיֵּ֣לֶךְ אֶל־ עֵלִ֔י וַיֹּ֣אמֶר הִנְנִ֔י כִּ֥י קָרָ֖אתָ לִ֑י וַיָּ֣בֶן עֵלִ֔י כִּ֥י יְהוָ֖ה קֹרֵ֥א לַנָּֽעַר׃

KJV ⁹ Therefore Eli said unto Samuel, Go, lie down: and it shall be, if he call thee, that thou shalt say, Speak, LORD; for thy servant heareth. So Samuel went and lay down in his place.

MAR ⁹ Alors Héli dit à Samuel : Va-t'en, et te couche ; et si on t'appelle, tu diras : Eternel parle, car ton serviteur écoute. Samuel donc s'en alla, et se coucha en son lieu.

KJV ¹⁰ And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

KJV ¹¹ And the LORD said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel, at which both the ears of every one that heareth it shall tingle.

MAR ¹¹ Alors l'Eternel dit à Samuel : Voici, je m'en vais faire une chose en Israël, laquelle quiconque entendra, ses deux oreilles lui corneront.

WLC ¹¹ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־ שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל הִנֵּ֧ה אָנֹכִ֛י עֹשֶׂ֥ה דָבָ֖ר בְּיִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל אֲשֶׁר֙ כָּל־ שֹׁ֣מְע֔וֹ תְּצִלֶּ֖ינָה שְׁתֵּ֥י אָזְנָֽיו׃

KJV ¹² In that day I will perform against Eli all things which I have spoken concerning his house: when I begin, I will also make an end.

MAR ¹² En ce jour-là j'effectuerai contre Héli tout ce que j ai dit touchant sa maison ; en commençant, et en achevant.

WLC ¹² בַּיּ֤וֹם הַהוּא֙ אָקִ֣ים אֶל־ עֵלִ֔י אֵ֛ת כָּל־ אֲשֶׁ֥ר דִּבַּ֖רְתִּי אֶל־ בֵּית֑וֹ הָחֵ֖ל וְכַלֵּֽה׃

KJV ¹³ For I have told him that I will judge his house for ever for the iniquity which he knoweth; because his sons made themselves vile, and he restrained them not.

MAR ¹³ Car je l'ai averti que je m'en allais punir sa maison pour jamais, à cause de l'iniquité laquelle il a bien connue, qui est que ses fils se sont rendus infâmes, et il ne les a point réprimés.

WLC ¹³ וְהִגַּ֣דְתִּי ל֔וֹ כִּֽי־ שֹׁפֵ֥ט אֲנִ֛י אֶת־ בֵּית֖וֹ עַד־ עוֹלָ֑ם בַּעֲוֺ֣ן אֲשֶׁר־ יָדַ֗ע כִּֽי־ מְקַֽלְלִ֤ים לָהֶם֙ בָּנָ֔יו וְלֹ֥א כִהָ֖ה בָּֽם׃

KJV ¹⁴ And therefore I have sworn unto the house of Eli, that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering for ever.

MAR ¹⁴ C'est pourquoi j'ai juré contre la maison d'Héli ; si jamais il se fait propitiation pour l'iniquité de la maison d'Héli, par sacrifice ou par oblation.

WLC ¹⁴ וְלָכֵ֥ן נִשְׁבַּ֖עְתִּי לְבֵ֣ית עֵלִ֑י אִֽם־ יִתְכַּפֵּ֞ר עֲוֺ֧ן בֵּית־ עֵלִ֛י בְּזֶ֥בַח וּבְמִנְחָ֖ה עַד־ עוֹלָֽם׃

KJV ¹⁵ And Samuel lay until the morning, and opened the doors of the house of the LORD. And Samuel feared to shew Eli the vision.

MAR ¹⁵ Et Samuel demeura couché jusqu'au matin, puis il ouvrit les portes de la maison de l'Eternel. Or Samuel craignait de déclarer cette vision à Héli.

WLC ¹⁵ וַיִּשְׁכַּ֤ב שְׁמוּאֵל֙ עַד־ הַבֹּ֔קֶר וַיִּפְתַּ֖ח אֶת־ דַּלְת֣וֹת בֵּית־ יְהוָ֑ה וּשְׁמוּאֵ֣ל יָרֵ֔א מֵהַגִּ֥יד אֶת־ הַמַּרְאָ֖ה אֶל־ עֵלִֽי׃

KJV ¹⁶ Then Eli called Samuel, and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I.

MAR ¹⁶ Mais Héli appela Samuel, et lui dit : Samuel mon fils, et il répondit : Me voici.

WLC ¹⁶ וַיִּקְרָ֤א עֵלִי֙ אֶת־ שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל וַיֹּ֖אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֣ל בְּנִ֑י וַיֹּ֖אמֶר הִנֵּֽנִי׃

KJV ¹⁷ And he said, What is the thing that the LORD hath said unto thee? I pray thee hide it not from me: God do so to thee, and more also, if thou hide any thing from me of all the things that he said unto thee.

MAR ¹⁷ Et [Héli] dit : Quelle est la parole qui t'a été dite ? Je te prie ne me la cache point. Ainsi Dieu te fasse, et ainsi il y ajoute, si tu me caches un seul mot de tout ce qui t'a été dit.

WLC ¹⁷ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר מָ֤ה הַדָּבָר֙ אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּ֣ר אֵלֶ֔יךָ אַל־ נָ֥א תְכַחֵ֖ד מִמֶּ֑נִּי כֹּ֣ה יַעֲשֶׂה־ לְּךָ֤ אֱלֹהִים֙ וְכֹ֣ה יוֹסִ֔יף אִם־ תְּכַחֵ֤ד מִמֶּ֙נִּי֙ דָּבָ֔ר מִכָּל־ הַדָּבָ֖ר אֲשֶׁר־ דִּבֶּ֥ר אֵלֶֽיךָ׃

KJV ¹⁸ And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.

MAR ¹⁸ Samuel donc lui déclara tout ce qui lui avait été dit, et ne lui en cacha rien. Et [Héli] répondit : C'est l'Eternel ; qu'il fasse ce qui lui semblera bon.

WLC ¹⁸ וַיַּגֶּד־ ל֤וֹ שְׁמוּאֵל֙ אֶת־ כָּל־ הַדְּבָרִ֔ים וְלֹ֥א כִחֵ֖ד מִמֶּ֑נּוּ וַיֹּאמַ֕ר יְהוָ֣ה ה֔וּא הַטּ֥וֹב בְּעֵינָ֖ו יַעֲשֶֽׂה׃

KJV ¹⁹ And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.

MAR ¹⁹ Or Samuel devenait grand, et l'Eternel était avec lui, qui ne laissa point tomber à terre une seule de ses paroles.

WLC ¹⁹ וַיִּגְדַּ֖ל שְׁמוּאֵ֑ל וַֽיהוָה֙ הָיָ֣ה עִמּ֔וֹ וְלֹֽא־ הִפִּ֥יל מִכָּל־ דְּבָרָ֖יו אָֽרְצָה׃

KJV ²⁰ And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of the LORD.

MAR ²⁰ Et tout Israël, depuis Dan jusqu'à Béersebah, connut que c'était une chose assurée que Samuel serait Prophète de l'Eternel.

WLC ²⁰ וַיֵּ֙דַע֙ כָּל־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל מִדָּ֖ן וְעַד־ בְּאֵ֣ר שָׁ֑בַע כִּ֚י נֶאֱמָ֣ן שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל לְנָבִ֖יא לַיהוָֽה׃

KJV ²¹ And the LORD appeared again in Shiloh: for the LORD revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the word of the LORD.

MAR ²¹ Et l'Eternel continua de se manifester dans Silo ; car l'Eternel se manifestait à Samuel dans Silo par la parole de l'Eternel.

WLC ²¹ וַיֹּ֥סֶף יְהוָ֖ה לְהֵרָאֹ֣ה בְשִׁלֹ֑ה כִּֽי־ נִגְלָ֨ה יְהוָ֧ה אֶל־ שְׁמוּאֵ֛ל בְּשִׁל֖וֹ בִּדְבַ֥ר יְהוָֽה׃
