KJV ³ And this man went up out of his city yearly to worship and to sacrifice unto the LORD of hosts in Shiloh. And the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, the priests of the LORD, were there.

NEG ³ Chaque année, cet homme montait de sa ville à Silo, pour adorer l'Eternel des armées et pour lui offrir des sacrifices. Là se trouvaient les deux fils d'Eli, Hophni et Phinées, sacrificateurs de l'Eternel.

KJV ⁴ And when the time was that Elkanah offered, he gave to Peninnah his wife, and to all her sons and her daughters, portions:

KJV ⁵ But unto Hannah he gave a worthy portion; for he loved Hannah: but the LORD had shut up her womb.

KJV ⁶ And her adversary also provoked her sore, for to make her fret, because the LORD had shut up her womb.

KJV ⁷ And as he did so year by year, when she went up to the house of the LORD, so she provoked her; therefore she wept, and did not eat.

NEG ⁷ Et toutes les années il en était ainsi. Chaque fois qu'Anne montait à la maison de l'Eternel, Peninna la mortifiait de la même manière. Alors elle pleurait et ne mangeait point.

KJV ⁸ Then said Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thy heart grieved? am not I better to thee than ten sons?

NEG ⁸ Elkana, son mari, lui disait: Anne, pourquoi pleures-tu, et ne manges-tu pas? pourquoi ton cœur est-il attristé? Est-ce que je ne vaux pas pour toi mieux que dix fils?

KJV ⁹ So Hannah rose up after they had eaten in Shiloh, and after they had drunk. Now Eli the priest sat upon a seat by a post of the temple of the LORD.

KJV ¹¹ And she vowed a vow, and said, O LORD of hosts, if thou wilt indeed look on the affliction of thine handmaid, and remember me, and not forget thine handmaid, but wilt give unto thine handmaid a man child, then I will give him unto the LORD all the days of his life, and there shall no razor come upon his head.

NEG ¹¹ Elle fit un vœu, en disant: Eternel des armées! si tu daignes regarder l'affliction de ta servante, si tu te souviens de moi et n'oublies point ta servante, et si tu donnes à ta servante un fils, je le consacrerai à l'Eternel pour tous les jours de sa vie, et le rasoir ne passera point sur sa tête.

KJV ¹² And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth.

KJV ¹⁵ And Hannah answered and said, No, my lord, I am a woman of a sorrowful spirit: I have drunk neither wine nor strong drink, but have poured out my soul before the LORD.

KJV ¹⁶ Count not thine handmaid for a daughter of Belial: for out of the abundance of my complaint and grief have I spoken hitherto.

NEG ¹⁶ Ne prends pas ta servante pour une femme pervertie, car c'est l'excès de ma douleur et de mon chagrin qui m'a fait parler jusqu'à présent.

VULC ¹⁶ Ne reputes ancillam tuam quasi unam de filiabus Belial : quia ex multitudine doloris et mœroris mei locuta sum usque in præsens.

KJV ¹⁷ Then Eli answered and said, Go in peace: and the God of Israel grant thee thy petition that thou hast asked of him.

KJV ¹⁸ And she said, Let thine handmaid find grace in thy sight. So the woman went her way, and did eat, and her countenance was no more sad.

KJV ¹⁹ And they rose up in the morning early, and worshipped before the LORD, and returned, and came to their house to Ramah: and Elkanah knew Hannah his wife; and the LORD remembered her.

KJV ²⁰ Wherefore it came to pass, when the time was come about after Hannah had conceived, that she bare a son, and called his name Samuel, saying, Because I have asked him of the LORD.

KJV ²¹ And the man Elkanah, and all his house, went up to offer unto the LORD the yearly sacrifice, and his vow.

KJV ²² But Hannah went not up; for she said unto her husband, I will not go up until the child be weaned, and then I will bring him, that he may appear before the LORD, and there abide for ever.

NEG ²² Mais Anne ne monta point, et elle dit à son mari: Lorsque l'enfant sera sevré, je le mènerai, afin qu'il soit présenté devant l'Eternel et qu'il reste là pour toujours.

KJV ²³ And Elkanah her husband said unto her, Do what seemeth thee good; tarry until thou have weaned him; only the LORD establish his word. So the woman abode, and gave her son suck until she weaned him.

KJV ²⁴ And when she had weaned him, she took him up with her, with three bullocks, and one ephah of flour, and a bottle of wine, and brought him unto the house of the LORD in Shiloh: and the child was young.

NEG ²⁴ Quand elle l'eut sevré, elle le fit monter avec elle, et prit trois taureaux, un épha de farine, et une outre de vin. Elle le mena dans la maison de l'Eternel à Silo: l'enfant était encore tout jeune.

KJV ²⁵ And they slew a bullock, and brought the child to Eli.

KJV ²⁷ For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:

NEG ²⁷ C'était pour cet enfant que je priais, et l'Eternel a exaucé la prière que je lui adressais.

VULC ²⁷ Pro puero isto oravi, et dedit mihi Dominus petitionem meam quam postulavi eum.

KJV ²⁸ Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

NEG ²⁸ Aussi je veux le prêter à l'Eternel: il sera toute sa vie prêté à l'Eternel. Et ils se prosternèrent là devant l'Eternel.

VULC ²⁸ Idcirco et ego commodavi eum Domino cunctis diebus quibus fuerit commodatus Domino. Et adoraverunt ibi Dominum.
Et oravit Anna, et ait :

KJV ¹ And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.

dilatatum est os meum super inimicos meos :
quia lætata sum in salutari tuo.

KJV ² There is none holy as the LORD: for there is none beside thee: neither is there any rock like our God.

KJV ³ Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arrogancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

KJV ⁹ He will keep the feet of his saints, and the wicked shall be silent in darkness; for by strength shall no man prevail.

KJV ¹³ And the priest's custom with the people was, that, when any man offered sacrifice, the priest's servant came, while the flesh was in seething, with a fleshhook of three teeth in his hand;

NEG ¹³ Et voici quelle était la manière d'agir de ces sacrificateurs à l'égard du peuple. Lorsque quelqu'un offrait un sacrifice, le serviteur du sacrificateur arrivait au moment où l'on faisait cuire la chair. Tenant à la main une fourchette à trois dents,

VULC ¹³ neque officium sacerdotum ad populum : sed quicumque immolasset victimam, veniebat puer sacerdotis, dum coquerentur carnes, et habebat fuscinulam tridentem in manu sua,

KJV ¹⁴ And he struck it into the pan, or kettle, or caldron, or pot; all that the fleshhook brought up the priest took for himself. So they did in Shiloh unto all the Israelites that came thither.

KJV ¹⁵ Also before they burnt the fat, the priest's servant came, and said to the man that sacrificed, Give flesh to roast for the priest; for he will not have sodden flesh of thee, but raw.

KJV ¹⁶ And if any man said unto him, Let them not fail to burn the fat presently, and then take as much as thy soul desireth; then he would answer him, Nay; but thou shalt give it me now: and if not, I will take it by force.

KJV ²⁰ And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.

KJV ²¹ And the LORD visited Hannah, so that she conceived, and bare three sons and two daughters. And the child Samuel grew before the LORD.

KJV ²² Now Eli was very old, and heard all that his sons did unto all Israel; and how they lay with the women that assembled at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.

KJV ²⁶ And the child Samuel grew on, and was in favour both with the LORD, and also with men.

KJV ³⁰ Wherefore the LORD God of Israel saith, I said indeed that thy house, and the house of thy father, should walk before me for ever: but now the LORD saith, Be it far from me; for them that honour me I will honour, and they that despise me shall be lightly esteemed.

KJV ³³ And the man of thine, whom I shall not cut off from mine altar, shall be to consume thine eyes, and to grieve thine heart: and all the increase of thine house shall die in the flower of their age.

KJV ⁶ And the LORD called yet again, Samuel. And Samuel arose and went to Eli, and said, Here am I; for thou didst call me. And he answered, I called not, my son; lie down again.

KJV ⁷ Now Samuel did not yet know the LORD, neither was the word of the LORD yet revealed unto him.

KJV ¹⁰ And the LORD came, and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel. Then Samuel answered, Speak; for thy servant heareth.

KJV ¹⁸ And Samuel told him every whit, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is the LORD: let him do what seemeth him good.

KJV ¹⁹ And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him, and did let none of his words fall to the ground.
