KJV ¹ And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.

KJV ² And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king's house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.

MAR ² Et sur le soir il arriva que David se leva de dessus son lit, et comme il se promenait sur la plateforme de l'hôtel Royal, il vit de dessus cette plateforme une femme qui se lavait, et cette femme-là était fort belle à voir.

KJV ³ And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?

MAR ³ Et David envoya s'informer de cette femme-là, et on lui dit : N'est-ce pas là Bath-sebah fille d'Eliham, femme d'Urie le Héthien ?

KJV ⁴ And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.

MAR ⁴ Et David envoya des messagers, et l'enleva ; et étant venue vers lui, il coucha avec elle ; car elle était nettoyée de sa souillure ; puis elle s'en retourna en sa maison.

KJV ⁵ And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.

MAR ⁵ Et cette femme conçut ; et elle envoya le faire savoir à David, en disant : Je suis enceinte.

KJV ⁶ And David sent to Joab, saying, Send me Uriah the Hittite. And Joab sent Uriah to David.

MAR ⁶ Alors David envoya dire à Joab : Envoie-moi Urie le Héthien ; et Joab envoya Urie à David.

KJV ⁷ And when Uriah was come unto him, David demanded of him how Joab did, and how the people did, and how the war prospered.

MAR ⁷ Et Urie vint à lui ; et David lui demanda comment se portait Joab, et le peuple, et comment il en allait de la guerre.

KJV ⁸ And David said to Uriah, Go down to thy house, and wash thy feet. And Uriah departed out of the king's house, and there followed him a mess of meat from the king.

MAR ⁸ Puis David dit à Urie : Descends en ta maison, et lave tes pieds. Et Urie sortit de la maison du Roi, et on porta après lui un présent Royal.

KJV ⁹ But Uriah slept at the door of the king's house with all the servants of his lord, and went not down to his house.

MAR ⁹ Mais Urie dormit à la porte de la maison du Roi, avec tous les serviteurs de son Seigneur, et ne descendit point en sa maison.

KJV ¹⁰ And when they had told David, saying, Uriah went not down unto his house, David said unto Uriah, Camest thou not from thy journey? why then didst thou not go down unto thine house?

MAR ¹⁰ Et on le rapporta à David, et on lui dit : Urie n'est point descendu en sa maison. Et David dit à Urie : Ne viens-tu pas de voyage ? Pourquoi n'es-tu pas descendu en ta maison ?

KJV ¹¹ And Uriah said unto David, The ark, and Israel, and Judah, abide in tents; and my lord Joab, and the servants of my lord, are encamped in the open fields; shall I then go into mine house, to eat and to drink, and to lie with my wife? as thou livest, and as thy soul liveth, I will not do this thing.

MAR ¹¹ Et Urie répondit à David : L'Arche, et Israël, et Juda logent sous des tentes ; Monseigneur Joab aussi, et les serviteurs de mon Seigneur campent aux champs ; et moi entrerais-je dans ma maison pour manger et boire, et pour coucher avec ma femme ? Tu es vivant, et ton âme vit, si je fais une telle chose.

KJV ¹² And David said to Uriah, Tarry here to day also, and to morrow I will let thee depart. So Uriah abode in Jerusalem that day, and the morrow.

MAR ¹² Et David dit à Urie : Demeure ici encore aujourd'hui, et demain je te renverrai. Urie donc demeura [encore] ce jour-là et le lendemain à Jérusalem.

KJV ¹³ And when David had called him, he did eat and drink before him; and he made him drunk: and at even he went out to lie on his bed with the servants of his lord, but went not down to his house.

MAR ¹³ Puis David l'appela, et il mangea et but devant lui, et David l'enivra ; et néanmoins il sortit au soir pour dormir dans son lit avec tous les serviteurs de son Seigneur, et ne descendit point en sa maison.

KJV ¹⁴ And it came to pass in the morning, that David wrote a letter to Joab, and sent it by the hand of Uriah.

MAR ¹⁴ Et le lendemain au matin David écrivit des lettres à Joab, et les envoya par les mains d'Urie.

KJV ¹⁵ And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.

MAR ¹⁵ Et il écrivit ces lettres en ces termes : Mettez Urie à l'endroit où sera le plus fort de la bataille, et retirez-vous d'auprès de lui, afin qu'il soit frappé, et qu'il meure.

KJV ¹⁶ And it came to pass, when Joab observed the city, that he assigned Uriah unto a place where he knew that valiant men were.

MAR ¹⁶ Après donc que Joab eut considéré la ville, il mit Urie à l'endroit où il savait que seraient les plus vaillants hommes.

KJV ¹⁷ And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also.

MAR ¹⁷ Et ceux de la ville sortirent et combattirent contre Joab, et quelques-uns du peuple [qui étaient] des serviteurs de David moururent ; Urie le Héthien mourut aussi.

KJV ¹⁸ Then Joab sent and told David all the things concerning the war;

MAR ¹⁸ Alors Joab envoya à David pour lui faire savoir tout ce qui était arrivé dans ce combat.

KJV ¹⁹ And charged the messenger, saying, When thou hast made an end of telling the matters of the war unto the king,

MAR ¹⁹ Et il commanda au messager, disant : Quand tu auras achevé de parler au Roi de tout ce qui est arrivé au combat,

KJV ²⁰ And if so be that the king's wrath arise, and he say unto thee, Wherefore approached ye so nigh unto the city when ye did fight? knew ye not that they would shoot from the wall?

MAR ²⁰ S'il arrive que le Roi se mette en colère et qu'il te dise : Pourquoi vous êtes-vous approchés de la ville pour combattre, ne savez-vous pas bien qu'on jette toujours quelque chose de dessus la muraille ?

KJV ²¹ Who smote Abimelech the son of Jerubbesheth? did not a woman cast a piece of a millstone upon him from the wall, that he died in Thebez? why went ye nigh the wall? then say thou, Thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

MAR ²¹ Qu'est-ce qui tua Abimélec fils de Jérubbeseth ? ne fut-ce pas une pièce de meule qu'une femme jeta sur lui de dessus la muraille, dont il mourut à Tébets ? Pourquoi vous êtes-vous approchés de la muraille ? Tu lui diras : Ton serviteur Urie le Héthien y est mort aussi.

KJV ²² So the messenger went, and came and shewed David all that Joab had sent him for.

MAR ²² Ainsi le messager partit, et étant arrivé il fit savoir à David tout ce pourquoi Joab l'avait envoyé.

KJV ²³ And the messenger said unto David, Surely the men prevailed against us, and came out unto us into the field, and we were upon them even unto the entering of the gate.

MAR ²³ Et le messager dit à David : Ils ont été plus forts que nous, et sont sortis contre nous aux champs, mais nous les avons repoussés jusqu'à l'entrée de la porte ;

KJV ²⁴ And the shooters shot from off the wall upon thy servants; and some of the king's servants be dead, and thy servant Uriah the Hittite is dead also.

MAR ²⁴ Et les archers ont tiré contre tes serviteurs de dessus la muraille, et quelques-uns des serviteurs du Roi sont morts ; ton serviteur Urie le Héthien est mort aussi.

KJV ²⁵ Then David said unto the messenger, Thus shalt thou say unto Joab, Let not this thing displease thee, for the sword devoureth one as well as another: make thy battle more strong against the city, and overthrow it: and encourage thou him.

MAR ²⁵ Et David dit au messager : Tu diras ainsi à Joab : Ne t'inquiète point de cela ; car l'épée emporte autant l'un que l'autre ; redouble le combat contre la ville, et détruis-la ; et toi donne-lui courage.

KJV ²⁶ And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.

MAR ²⁶ Et la femme d'Urie apprit qu'Urie son mari était mort, et elle fit le deuil de son mari.

KJV ²⁷ And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.

MAR ²⁷ Et après que le deuil fut passé, David envoya, et la retira dans sa maison, et elle lui fut pour femme, et lui enfanta un fils ; mais ce que David avait fait déplut à l'Eternel.

KJV ¹ And the LORD sent Nathan unto David. And he came unto him, and said unto him, There were two men in one city; the one rich, and the other poor.

MAR ¹ Et l'Eternel envoya Nathan à David, lequel vint à lui, et lui dit : Il y avait deux hommes dans une ville, l'un riche, et l'autre pauvre.

KJV ² The rich man had exceeding many flocks and herds:

KJV ³ But the poor man had nothing, save one little ewe lamb, which he had bought and nourished up: and it grew up together with him, and with his children; it did eat of his own meat, and drank of his own cup, and lay in his bosom, and was unto him as a daughter.

MAR ³ Mais le pauvre n'avait rien du tout qu'une petite brebis, qu'il avait achetée et nourrie, et qui était crue chez lui et avec ses enfants, mangeant de ses morceaux, buvant dans sa coupe, et dormant en son sein, et elle lui était comme fille.

KJV ⁴ And there came a traveller unto the rich man, and he spared to take of his own flock and of his own herd, to dress for the wayfaring man that was come unto him; but took the poor man's lamb, and dressed it for the man that was come to him.

MAR ⁴ Mais un homme qui voyageait étant venu chez cet homme riche, ce [riche] a épargné de prendre son gros et son menu bétail, pour en apprêter au voyageur qui était entré chez lui, et il a pris la brebis de cet homme pauvre, et l'a apprêtée à cet homme qui était entré chez lui.

KJV ⁵ And David's anger was greatly kindled against the man; and he said to Nathan, As the LORD liveth, the man that hath done this thing shall surely die:

MAR ⁵ Alors la colère de David s'enflamma fort contre cet homme-là ; et il dit à Nathan : L'Eternel est vivant, que l'homme qui a fait cela est digne de mort.

KJV ⁶ And he shall restore the lamb fourfold, because he did this thing, and because he had no pity.

MAR ⁶ Et parce qu'il a fait cela, et qu'il n'a point épargné [cette brebis], pour une brebis il en rendra quatre.

KJV ⁷ And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul;

MAR ⁷ Alors Nathan dit à David : Tu [es] cet homme-là. Ainsi a dit l'Eternel le Dieu d'Israël : Je t'ai oint pour être Roi sur Israël, et je t'ai délivré de la main de Saül.

KJV ⁸ And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things.

MAR ⁸ Même je t'ai donné la maison de ton Seigneur, et les femmes de ton Seigneur en ton sein, et je t'ai donné la maison d'Israël, et de Juda ; et si c'est [encore] peu, je t'eusse ajouté telle et telle chose.

KJV ⁹ Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.

MAR ⁹ Pourquoi donc as-tu méprisé la parole de l'Eternel, en faisant ce qui lui déplaît ? Tu as frappé avec l'épée Urie le Héthien, tu as enlevé sa femme [afin qu'elle fût] ta femme, et tu l'as tué par l'épée des enfants de Hammon.

KJV ¹⁰ Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.

MAR ¹⁰ Maintenant donc l'épée ne partira jamais de ta maison, parce que tu m'as méprisé, et que tu as enlevé la femme d'Urie le Héthien, afin qu'elle fût ta femme.

KJV ¹¹ Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.

MAR ¹¹ Ainsi a dit l'Eternel : Voici, je m'en vais faire sortir de ta propre maison un mal contre toi, j'enlèverai tes femmes devant tes yeux, je les donnerai à un homme de ta maison, et il dormira avec tes femmes à la vue de ce soleil.

KJV ¹² For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.

MAR ¹² Car tu l'as fait en secret, mais moi, je le ferai en la présence de tout Israël, et devant le soleil.

KJV ¹³ And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.

MAR ¹³ Alors David dit à Nathan : J'ai péché contre l'Eternel ; et Nathan dit à David : Aussi l'Eternel a fait passer ton péché ; tu ne mourras point.

KJV ¹⁴ Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.

MAR ¹⁴ Toutefois parce qu'en cela tu as donné occasion aux ennemis de l'Eternel de le blasphémer, à cause de cela le fils qui t'est né mourra certainement.

KJV ¹⁵ And Nathan departed unto his house. And the LORD struck the child that Uriah's wife bare unto David, and it was very sick.

MAR ¹⁵ Après cela Nathan s'en retourna en sa maison ; et l'Eternel frappa l'enfant que la femme d'Urie avait enfanté à David, qui en fut fort affligé.

KJV ¹⁶ David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.

MAR ¹⁶ Et David pria Dieu pour l'enfant, il jeûna et il passa la nuit couché sur la terre.

KJV ¹⁷ And the elders of his house arose, and went to him, to raise him up from the earth: but he would not, neither did he eat bread with them.

MAR ¹⁷ Et les Anciens de sa maison se levèrent et vinrent vers lui, pour le faire lever de terre, mais il ne voulut point [se lever], et il ne mangea d'aucune chose avec eux.

KJV ¹⁸ And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?

MAR ¹⁸ Et il arriva que l'enfant mourut le septième jour, et les serviteurs de David craignaient de lui [apprendre] que l'enfant était mort ; car ils disaient : Voici, quand l'enfant était en vie, nous lui avons parlé, et il n'a point voulu écouter notre voix ; comment donc lui dirions-nous que l'enfant est mort, afin qu'il s'afflige davantage ?

KJV ¹⁹ But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.

MAR ¹⁹ Et David aperçut que ses serviteurs parlaient bas, et il comprit que l'enfant était mort ; et David dit à ses serviteurs : L'enfant n'est-il pas mort ? Ils répondirent : Il est mort.

KJV ²⁰ Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.

MAR ²⁰ Alors David se leva de terre, se lava, s'oignit, et changea d'habits ; et il entra dans la maison de l'Eternel, et se prosterna ; puis il revint en sa maison, et ayant demandé [à manger], on mit de la viande devant lui, et il mangea.

KJV ²¹ Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.

MAR ²¹ Et ses serviteurs lui dirent : Qu'est-ce que tu fais ? tu as jeûné et pleuré pour l'amour de l'enfant, lorsqu'il était encore en vie, et après que l'enfant est mort, tu t'es levé, et tu as mangé de la viande.

KJV ²² And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?

MAR ²² Et il dit : Quand l'enfant était encore en vie, j'ai jeûné, et pleuré ; car je disais : Qui sait si l'Eternel aura pitié de moi, et si l'enfant ne vivra point ?

KJV ²³ But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.

MAR ²³ Mais maintenant qu'il est mort, pourquoi jeûnerais-je ? pourrais-je le faire revenir encore ? Je m'en vais vers lui, et lui ne reviendra pas vers moi.
