WLC ¹³ וַיְהִי֙ מִֽמָּחֳרָ֔ת וַיֵּ֥שֶׁב מֹשֶׁ֖ה לִשְׁפֹּ֣ט אֶת־ הָעָ֑ם וַיַּעֲמֹ֤ד הָעָם֙ עַל־ מֹשֶׁ֔ה מִן־ הַבֹּ֖קֶר עַד־ הָעָֽרֶב׃

KJV ¹⁴ And when Moses' father in law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand by thee from morning unto even?

LSG ¹⁴ Le beau-père de Moïse vit tout ce qu'il faisait pour le peuple, et il dit: Que fais-tu là avec ce peuple ? Pourquoi sièges-tu seul, et tout le peuple se tient-il devant toi, depuis le matin jusqu'au soir ?

VULC ¹⁴ Quod cum vidisset cognatus ejus, omnia scilicet quæ agebat in populo, ait : Quid est hoc quod facis in plebe ? cur solus sedes, et omnis populus præstolatur de mane usque ad vesperam ?

WLC ¹⁴ וַיַּרְא֙ חֹתֵ֣ן מֹשֶׁ֔ה אֵ֛ת כָּל־ אֲשֶׁר־ ה֥וּא עֹשֶׂ֖ה לָעָ֑ם וַיֹּ֗אמֶר מָֽה־ הַדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ אֲשֶׁ֨ר אַתָּ֤ה עֹשֶׂה֙ לָעָ֔ם מַדּ֗וּעַ אַתָּ֤ה יוֹשֵׁב֙ לְבַדֶּ֔ךָ וְכָל־ הָעָ֛ם נִצָּ֥ב עָלֶ֖יךָ מִן־ בֹּ֥קֶר עַד־ עָֽרֶב׃

KJV ¹⁵ And Moses said unto his father in law, Because the people come unto me to enquire of God:

LSG ¹⁵ Moïse répondit à son beau-père: C'est que le peuple vient à moi pour consulter Dieu.

VULC ¹⁵ Cui respondit Moyses : Venit ad me populus quærens sententiam Dei :

WLC ¹⁵ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר מֹשֶׁ֖ה לְחֹתְנ֑וֹ כִּֽי־ יָבֹ֥א אֵלַ֛י הָעָ֖ם לִדְרֹ֥שׁ אֱלֹהִֽים׃

KJV ¹⁶ When they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between one and another, and I do make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.

LSG ¹⁶ Quand ils ont quelque affaire, ils viennent à moi ; je prononce entre eux, et je fais connaître les ordonnances de Dieu et ses lois.

VULC ¹⁶ cumque acciderit eis aliqua disceptatio, veniunt ad me ut judicem inter eos, et ostendam præcepta Dei, et leges ejus.

WLC ¹⁶ כִּֽי־ יִהְיֶ֨ה לָהֶ֤ם דָּבָר֙ בָּ֣א אֵלַ֔י וְשָׁ֣פַטְתִּ֔י בֵּ֥ין אִ֖ישׁ וּבֵ֣ין רֵעֵ֑הוּ וְהוֹדַעְתִּ֛י אֶת־ חֻקֵּ֥י הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים וְאֶת־ תּוֹרֹתָֽיו׃

KJV ¹⁷ And Moses' father in law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.

LSG ¹⁷ Le beau-père de Moïse lui dit: Ce que tu fais n'est pas bien.

VULC ¹⁷ At ille : Non bonam, inquit, rem facis.

WLC ¹⁷ וַיֹּ֛אמֶר חֹתֵ֥ן מֹשֶׁ֖ה אֵלָ֑יו לֹא־ טוֹב֙ הַדָּבָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֥ר אַתָּ֖ה עֹשֶֽׂה׃

KJV ¹⁸ Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for this thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.

LSG ¹⁸ Tu t'épuiseras toi-même, et tu épuiseras ce peuple qui est avec toi ; car la chose est au-dessus de tes forces, tu ne pourras pas y suffire seul.

VULC ¹⁸ Stulto labore consumeris et tu, et populus iste qui tecum est : ultra vires tuas est negotium ; solus illud non poteris sustinere.

WLC ¹⁸ נָבֹ֣ל תִּבֹּ֔ל גַּם־ אַתָּ֕ה גַּם־ הָעָ֥ם הַזֶּ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר עִמָּ֑ךְ כִּֽי־ כָבֵ֤ד מִמְּךָ֙ הַדָּבָ֔ר לֹא־ תוּכַ֥ל עֲשֹׂ֖הוּ לְבַדֶּֽךָ׃

KJV ¹⁹ Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God shall be with thee: Be thou for the people to God-ward, that thou mayest bring the causes unto God:

LSG ¹⁹ Maintenant écoute ma voix ; je vais te donner un conseil, et que Dieu soit avec toi ! Sois l'interprète du peuple auprès de Dieu, et porte les affaires devant Dieu.

VULC ¹⁹ Sed audi verba mea atque consilia, et erit Deus tecum. Esto tu populo in his quæ ad Deum pertinent, ut referas quæ dicuntur ad eum :

WLC ¹⁹ עַתָּ֞ה שְׁמַ֤ע בְּקֹלִי֙ אִיעָ֣צְךָ֔ וִיהִ֥י אֱלֹהִ֖ים עִמָּ֑ךְ הֱיֵ֧ה אַתָּ֣ה לָעָ֗ם מ֚וּל הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים וְהֵבֵאתָ֥ אַתָּ֛ה אֶת־ הַדְּבָרִ֖ים אֶל־ הָאֱלֹהִֽים׃

KJV ²⁰ And thou shalt teach them ordinances and laws, and shalt shew them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.

LSG ²⁰ Enseigne-leur les ordonnances et les lois ; et fais-leur connaître le chemin qu'ils doivent suivre, et ce qu'ils doivent faire.

VULC ²⁰ ostendasque populo cæremonias et ritum colendi, viamque per quam ingredi debeant, et opus quod facere debeant.

WLC ²⁰ וְהִזְהַרְתָּ֣ה אֶתְהֶ֔ם אֶת־ הַחֻקִּ֖ים וְאֶת־ הַתּוֹרֹ֑ת וְהוֹדַעְתָּ֣ לָהֶ֗ם אֶת־ הַדֶּ֙רֶךְ֙ יֵ֣לְכוּ בָ֔הּ וְאֶת־ הַֽמַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֥ר יַעֲשֽׂוּן׃

KJV ²¹ Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating covetousness; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, and rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:

LSG ²¹ Choisis parmi tout le peuple des hommes capables, craignant Dieu, des hommes intègres, ennemis de la cupidité ; établis-les sur eux comme chefs de mille, chefs de cent, chefs de cinquante et chefs de dix.

VULC ²¹ Provide autem de omni plebe viros potentes, et timentes Deum, in quibus sit veritas, et qui oderint avaritiam, et constitue ex eis tribunos, et centuriones, et quinquagenarios, et decanos,

WLC ²¹ וְאַתָּ֣ה תֶחֱזֶ֣ה מִכָּל־ הָ֠עָם אַנְשֵׁי־ חַ֜יִל יִרְאֵ֧י אֱלֹהִ֛ים אַנְשֵׁ֥י אֱמֶ֖ת שֹׂ֣נְאֵי בָ֑צַע וְשַׂמְתָּ֣ עֲלֵהֶ֗ם שָׂרֵ֤י אֲלָפִים֙ שָׂרֵ֣י מֵא֔וֹת שָׂרֵ֥י חֲמִשִּׁ֖ים וְשָׂרֵ֥י עֲשָׂרֹֽת׃

KJV ²² And let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.

LSG ²² Qu'ils jugent le peuple en tout temps ; qu'ils portent devant toi toutes les affaires importantes, et qu'ils prononcent eux-mêmes sur les petites causes. Allège ta charge, et qu'ils la portent avec toi.

VULC ²² qui judicent populum omni tempore : quidquid autem majus fuerit, referant ad te, et ipsi minora tantummodo judicent : leviusque sit tibi, partito in alios onere.

WLC ²² וְשָׁפְט֣וּ אֶת־ הָעָם֮ בְּכָל־ עֵת֒ וְהָיָ֞ה כָּל־ הַדָּבָ֤ר הַגָּדֹל֙ יָבִ֣יאוּ אֵלֶ֔יךָ וְכָל־ הַדָּבָ֥ר הַקָּטֹ֖ן יִשְׁפְּטוּ־ הֵ֑ם וְהָקֵל֙ מֵֽעָלֶ֔יךָ וְנָשְׂא֖וּ אִתָּֽךְ׃

KJV ²³ If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go to their place in peace.

LSG ²³ Si tu fais cela, et que Dieu te donne des ordres, tu pourras y suffire, et tout ce peuple parviendra heureusement à sa destination.

VULC ²³ Si hoc feceris, implebis imperium Dei, et præcepta ejus poteris sustentare : et omnis hic populus revertetur ad loca sua cum pace.

WLC ²³ אִ֣ם אֶת־ הַדָּבָ֤ר הַזֶּה֙ תַּעֲשֶׂ֔ה וְצִוְּךָ֣ אֱלֹהִ֔ים וְיָֽכָלְתָּ֖ עֲמֹ֑ד וְגַם֙ כָּל־ הָעָ֣ם הַזֶּ֔ה עַל־ מְקֹמ֖וֹ יָבֹ֥א בְשָׁלֽוֹם׃

KJV ²⁴ So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father in law, and did all that he had said.

LSG ²⁴ Moïse écouta la voix de son beau-père, et fit tout ce qu'il avait dit.

VULC ²⁴ Quibus auditis, Moyses fecit omnia quæ ille suggesserat.

WLC ²⁴ וַיִּשְׁמַ֥ע מֹשֶׁ֖ה לְק֣וֹל חֹתְנ֑וֹ וַיַּ֕עַשׂ כֹּ֖ל אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָמָֽר׃

KJV ²⁵ And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.

LSG ²⁵ Moïse choisit des hommes capables parmi tout Israël, et il les établit chefs du peuple, chefs de mille, chefs de cent, chefs de cinquante et chefs de dix.

VULC ²⁵ Et electis viris strenuis de cuncto Israël, constituit eos principes populi, tribunos, et centuriones, et quinquagenarios, et decanos.

WLC ²⁵ וַיִּבְחַ֨ר מֹשֶׁ֤ה אַנְשֵׁי־ חַ֙יִל֙ מִכָּל־ יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וַיִּתֵּ֥ן אֹתָ֛ם רָאשִׁ֖ים עַל־ הָעָ֑ם שָׂרֵ֤י אֲלָפִים֙ שָׂרֵ֣י מֵא֔וֹת שָׂרֵ֥י חֲמִשִּׁ֖ים וְשָׂרֵ֥י עֲשָׂרֹֽת׃

KJV ²⁶ And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.

LSG ²⁶ Ils jugeaient le peuple en tout temps ; ils portaient devant Moïse les affaires difficiles, et ils prononçaient eux-mêmes sur toutes les petites causes.

VULC ²⁶ Qui judicabant plebem omni tempore : quidquid autem gravius erat, referebant ad eum, faciliora tantummodo judicantes.

WLC ²⁶ וְשָׁפְט֥וּ אֶת־ הָעָ֖ם בְּכָל־ עֵ֑ת אֶת־ הַדָּבָ֤ר הַקָּשֶׁה֙ יְבִיא֣וּן אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֔ה וְכָל־ הַדָּבָ֥ר הַקָּטֹ֖ן יִשְׁפּוּט֥וּ הֵֽם׃

KJV ²⁷ And Moses let his father in law depart; and he went his way into his own land.

LSG ²⁷ Moïse laissa partir son beau-père, et Jéthro s'en alla dans son pays.

VULC ²⁷ Dimisitque cognatum suum : qui reversus abiit in terram suam.

WLC ²⁷ וַיְשַׁלַּ֥ח מֹשֶׁ֖ה אֶת־ חֹתְנ֑וֹ וַיֵּ֥לֶךְ ל֖וֹ אֶל־ אַרְצֽוֹ׃
