KJV ¹ In the third month, when the children of Israel were gone forth out of the land of Egypt, the same day came they into the wilderness of Sinai.

KJV ² For they were departed from Rephidim, and were come to the desert of Sinai, and had pitched in the wilderness; and there Israel camped before the mount.

LSG ² Étant partis de Rephidim, ils arrivèrent au désert de Sinaï, et ils campèrent dans le désert ; Israël campa là, vis-à-vis de la montagne.

VULC ² Nam profecti de Raphidim, et pervenientes usque in desertum Sinai, castrametati sunt in eodem loco, ibique Israël fixit tentoria e regione montis.

KJV ³ And Moses went up unto God, and the LORD called unto him out of the mountain, saying, Thus shalt thou say to the house of Jacob, and tell the children of Israel;

LSG ³ Moïse monta vers Dieu: et l'Éternel l'appela du haut de la montagne, en disant: Tu parleras ainsi à la maison de Jacob, et tu diras aux enfants d'Israël:

WLC ³ וּמֹשֶׁ֥ה עָלָ֖ה אֶל־ הָאֱלֹהִ֑ים וַיִּקְרָ֨א אֵלָ֤יו יְהוָה֙ מִן־ הָהָ֣ר לֵאמֹ֔ר כֹּ֤ה תֹאמַר֙ לְבֵ֣ית יַעֲקֹ֔ב וְתַגֵּ֖יד לִבְנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁴ Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles' wings, and brought you unto myself.

LSG ⁴ Vous avez vu ce que j'ai fait à l'Égypte, et comment je vous ai portés sur des ailes d'aigle et amenés vers moi.

VULC ⁴ Vos ipsi vidistis quæ fecerim Ægyptiis, quomodo portaverim vos super alas aquilarum, et assumpserim mihi.

KJV ⁵ Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine:

LSG ⁵ Maintenant, si vous écoutez ma voix, et si vous gardez mon alliance, vous m'appartiendrez entre tous les peuples, car toute la terre est à moi ;

VULC ⁵ Si ergo audieritis vocem meam, et custodieritis pactum meum, eritis mihi in peculium de cunctis populis : mea est enim omnis terra :

WLC ⁵ וְעַתָּ֗ה אִם־ שָׁמ֤וֹעַ תִּשְׁמְעוּ֙ בְּקֹלִ֔י וּשְׁמַרְתֶּ֖ם אֶת־ בְּרִיתִ֑י וִהְיִ֨יתֶם לִ֤י סְגֻלָּה֙ מִכָּל־ הָ֣עַמִּ֔ים כִּי־ לִ֖י כָּל־ הָאָֽרֶץ׃

KJV ⁶ And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

LSG ⁶ vous serez pour moi un royaume de sacrificateurs et une nation sainte. Voilà les paroles que tu diras aux enfants d'Israël.

VULC ⁶ et vos eritis mihi in regnum sacerdotale, et gens sancta. Hæc sunt verba quæ loqueris ad filios Israël.

WLC ⁶ וְאַתֶּ֧ם תִּהְיוּ־ לִ֛י מַמְלֶ֥כֶת כֹּהֲנִ֖ים וְג֣וֹי קָד֑וֹשׁ אֵ֚לֶּה הַדְּבָרִ֔ים אֲשֶׁ֥ר תְּדַבֵּ֖ר אֶל־ בְּנֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

KJV ⁷ And Moses came and called for the elders of the people, and laid before their faces all these words which the LORD commanded him.

LSG ⁷ Moïse vint appeler les anciens du peuple, et il mit devant eux toutes ces paroles, comme l'Éternel le lui avait ordonné.

VULC ⁷ Venit Moyses : et convocatis majoribus natu populi, exposuit omnes sermones quos mandaverat Dominus.

KJV ⁸ And all the people answered together, and said, All that the LORD hath spoken we will do. And Moses returned the words of the people unto the LORD.

LSG ⁸ Le peuple tout entier répondit: Nous ferons tout ce que l'Éternel a dit. Moïse rapporta les paroles du peuple à l'Éternel.

VULC ⁸ Responditque omnis populus simul : Cuncta quæ locutus est Dominus, faciemus. Cumque retulisset Moyses verba populi ad Dominum,

KJV ⁹ And the LORD said unto Moses, Lo, I come unto thee in a thick cloud, that the people may hear when I speak with thee, and believe thee for ever. And Moses told the words of the people unto the LORD.

LSG ⁹ Et l'Éternel dit à Moïse: Voici, je viendrai vers toi dans une épaisse nuée, afin que le peuple entende quand je te parlerai, et qu'il ait toujours confiance en toi. Moïse rapporta les paroles du peuple à l'Éternel.

VULC ⁹ ait ei Dominus : Jam nunc veniam ad te in caligine nubis, ut audiat me populus loquentem ad te, et credat tibi in perpetuum. Nuntiavit ergo Moyses verba populi ad Dominum.

KJV ¹⁰ And the LORD said unto Moses, Go unto the people, and sanctify them to day and to morrow, and let them wash their clothes,

KJV ¹¹ And be ready against the third day: for the third day the LORD will come down in the sight of all the people upon mount Sinai.

LSG ¹¹ Qu'ils soient prêts pour le troisième jour ; car le troisième jour l'Éternel descendra, aux yeux de tout le peuple, sur la montagne de Sinaï.

VULC ¹¹ Et sint parati in diem tertium : in die enim tertia descendet Dominus coram omni plebe super montem Sinai.

KJV ¹² And thou shalt set bounds unto the people round about, saying, Take heed to yourselves, that ye go not up into the mount, or touch the border of it: whosoever toucheth the mount shall be surely put to death:

LSG ¹² Tu fixeras au peuple des limites tout à l'entour, et tu diras: Gardez-vous de monter sur la montagne, ou d'en toucher le bord. Quiconque touchera la montagne sera puni de mort.

VULC ¹² Constituesque terminos populo per circuitum, et dices ad eos : Cavete ne ascendatis in montem, nec tangatis fines illius : omnis qui tetigerit montem, morte morietur.

WLC ¹² וְהִגְבַּלְתָּ֤ אֶת־ הָעָם֙ סָבִ֣יב לֵאמֹ֔ר הִשָּׁמְר֥וּ לָכֶ֛ם עֲל֥וֹת בָּהָ֖ר וּנְגֹ֣עַ בְּקָצֵ֑הוּ כָּל־ הַנֹּגֵ֥עַ בָּהָ֖ר מ֥וֹת יוּמָֽת׃

KJV ¹³ There shall not an hand touch it, but he shall surely be stoned, or shot through; whether it be beast or man, it shall not live: when the trumpet soundeth long, they shall come up to the mount.

LSG ¹³ On ne mettra pas la main sur lui, mais on le lapidera, ou on le percera de flèches: animal ou homme, il ne vivra point. Quand la trompette sonnera, ils s'avanceront près de la montagne.

VULC ¹³ Manus non tanget eum, sed lapidibus opprimetur, aut confodietur jaculis : sive jumentum fuerit, sive homo, non vivet : cum cœperit clangere buccina, tunc ascendant in montem.

KJV ¹⁴ And Moses went down from the mount unto the people, and sanctified the people; and they washed their clothes.

KJV ¹⁵ And he said unto the people, Be ready against the third day: come not at your wives.

LSG ¹⁵ Et il dit au peuple: Soyez prêts dans trois jours ; ne vous approchez d'aucune femme.

KJV ¹⁶ And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled.

LSG ¹⁶ Le troisième jour au matin, il y eut des tonnerres, des éclairs, et une épaisse nuée sur la montagne ; le son de la trompette retentit fortement ; et tout le peuple qui était dans le camp fut saisi d'épouvante.

VULC ¹⁶ Jamque advenerat tertius dies, et mane inclaruerat : et ecce cœperunt audiri tonitrua, ac micare fulgura, et nubes densissima operire montem, clangorque buccinæ vehementius perstrepebat : et timuit populus qui erat in castris.

KJV ¹⁷ And Moses brought forth the people out of the camp to meet with God; and they stood at the nether part of the mount.

LSG ¹⁷ Moïse fit sortir le peuple du camp, à la rencontre de Dieu ; et ils se placèrent au bas de la montagne.

VULC ¹⁷ Cumque eduxisset eos Moyses in occursum Dei de loco castrorum, steterunt ad radices montis.

WLC ¹⁷ וַיּוֹצֵ֨א מֹשֶׁ֧ה אֶת־ הָעָ֛ם לִקְרַ֥את הָֽאֱלֹהִ֖ים מִן־ הַֽמַּחֲנֶ֑ה וַיִּֽתְיַצְּב֖וּ בְּתַחְתִּ֥ית הָהָֽר׃

KJV ¹⁸ And mount Sinai was altogether on a smoke, because the LORD descended upon it in fire: and the smoke thereof ascended as the smoke of a furnace, and the whole mount quaked greatly.

LSG ¹⁸ La montagne de Sinaï était tout en fumée, parce que l'Éternel y était descendu au milieu du feu ; cette fumée s'élevait comme la fumée d'une fournaise, et toute la montagne tremblait avec violence.

VULC ¹⁸ Totus autem mons Sinai fumabat, eo quod descendisset Dominus super eum in igne : et ascenderet fumus ex eo quasi de fornace, eratque omnis mons terribilis.

WLC ¹⁸ וְהַ֤ר סִינַי֙ עָשַׁ֣ן כֻּלּ֔וֹ מִ֠פְּנֵי אֲשֶׁ֨ר יָרַ֥ד עָלָ֛יו יְהוָ֖ה בָּאֵ֑שׁ וַיַּ֤עַל עֲשָׁנוֹ֙ כְּעֶ֣שֶׁן הַכִּבְשָׁ֔ן וַיֶּחֱרַ֥ד כָּל־ הָהָ֖ר מְאֹֽד׃

KJV ¹⁹ And when the voice of the trumpet sounded long, and waxed louder and louder, Moses spake, and God answered him by a voice.

LSG ¹⁹ Le son de la trompette retentissait de plus en plus fortement. Moïse parlait, et Dieu lui répondait à haute voix.

VULC ¹⁹ Et sonitus buccinæ paulatim crescebat in majus, et prolixius tendebatur : Moyses loquebatur, et Deus respondebat ei.

WLC ¹⁹ וַיְהִי֙ ק֣וֹל הַשּׁוֹפָ֔ר הוֹלֵ֖ךְ וְחָזֵ֣ק מְאֹ֑ד מֹשֶׁ֣ה יְדַבֵּ֔ר וְהָאֱלֹהִ֖ים יַעֲנֶ֥נּוּ בְקֽוֹל׃

KJV ²⁰ And the LORD came down upon mount Sinai, on the top of the mount: and the LORD called Moses up to the top of the mount; and Moses went up.

LSG ²⁰ Ainsi l'Éternel descendit sur la montagne de Sinaï, sur le sommet de la montagne ; l'Éternel appela Moïse sur le sommet de la montagne. Et Moïse monta.

KJV ²¹ And the LORD said unto Moses, Go down, charge the people, lest they break through unto the LORD to gaze, and many of them perish.

LSG ²¹ L'Éternel dit à Moïse: Descends, fais au peuple la défense expresse de se précipiter vers l'Éternel, pour regarder, de peur qu'un grand nombre d'entre eux ne périssent.

VULC ²¹ dixit ad eum : Descende, et contestare populum : ne forte velit transcendere terminos ad videndum Dominum, et pereat ex eis plurima multitudo.

WLC ²¹ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוָה֙ אֶל־ מֹשֶׁ֔ה רֵ֖ד הָעֵ֣ד בָּעָ֑ם פֶּן־ יֶהֶרְס֤וּ אֶל־ יְהוָה֙ לִרְא֔וֹת וְנָפַ֥ל מִמֶּ֖נּוּ רָֽב׃

KJV ²² And let the priests also, which come near to the LORD, sanctify themselves, lest the LORD break forth upon them.

LSG ²² Que les sacrificateurs, qui s'approchent de l'Éternel, se sanctifient aussi, de peur que l'Éternel ne les frappe de mort.

VULC ²² Sacerdotes quoque qui accedunt ad Dominum, sanctificentur, ne percutiat eos.

WLC ²² וְגַ֧ם הַכֹּהֲנִ֛ים הַנִּגָּשִׁ֥ים אֶל־ יְהוָ֖ה יִתְקַדָּ֑שׁוּ פֶּן־ יִפְרֹ֥ץ בָּהֶ֖ם יְהוָֽה׃

KJV ²³ And Moses said unto the LORD, The people cannot come up to mount Sinai: for thou chargedst us, saying, Set bounds about the mount, and sanctify it.

LSG ²³ Moïse dit à l'Éternel: Le peuple ne pourra pas monter sur la montagne de Sinaï, car tu nous en as fait la défense expresse, en disant: Fixe des limites autour de la montagne, et sanctifie-la.

VULC ²³ Dixitque Moyses ad Dominum : Non poterit vulgus ascendere in montem Sinai : tu enim testificatus es, et jussisti, dicens : Pone terminos circa montem, et sanctifica illum.

WLC ²³ וַיֹּ֤אמֶר מֹשֶׁה֙ אֶל־ יְהוָ֔ה לֹא־ יוּכַ֣ל הָעָ֔ם לַעֲלֹ֖ת אֶל־ הַ֣ר סִינָ֑י כִּֽי־ אַתָּ֞ה הַעֵדֹ֤תָה בָּ֙נוּ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר הַגְבֵּ֥ל אֶת־ הָהָ֖ר וְקִדַּשְׁתּֽוֹ׃

KJV ²⁴ And the LORD said unto him, Away, get thee down, and thou shalt come up, thou, and Aaron with thee: but let not the priests and the people break through to come up unto the LORD, lest he break forth upon them.

LSG ²⁴ L'Éternel lui dit: Va, descends ; tu monteras ensuite avec Aaron ; mais que les sacrificateurs et le peuple ne se précipitent point pour monter vers l'Éternel, de peur qu'il ne les frappe de mort.

VULC ²⁴ Cui ait Dominus : Vade, descende : ascendesque tu, et Aaron tecum : sacerdotes autem et populus ne transeant terminos, nec ascendant ad Dominum, ne forte interficiat illos.

WLC ²⁴ וַיֹּ֨אמֶר אֵלָ֤יו יְהוָה֙ לֶךְ־ רֵ֔ד וְעָלִ֥יתָ אַתָּ֖ה וְאַהֲרֹ֣ן עִמָּ֑ךְ וְהַכֹּהֲנִ֣ים וְהָעָ֗ם אַל־ יֶֽהֶרְס֛וּ לַעֲלֹ֥ת אֶל־ יְהוָ֖ה פֶּן־ יִפְרָץ־ בָּֽם׃

KJV ²⁵ So Moses went down unto the people, and spake unto them.

LSG ²⁵ Moïse descendit vers le peuple, et lui dit ces choses.

KJV ¹ And God spake all these words, saying,

WLC ¹ וַיְדַבֵּ֣ר אֱלֹהִ֔ים אֵ֛ת כָּל־ הַדְּבָרִ֥ים הָאֵ֖לֶּה לֵאמֹֽר׃

KJV ² I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

LSG ² Je suis l'Éternel, ton Dieu, qui t'ai fait sortir du pays d'Égypte, de la maison de servitude.

VULC ² Ego sum Dominus Deus tuus, qui eduxi te de terra Ægypti, de domo servitutis.

KJV ³ Thou shalt have no other gods before me.

KJV ⁴ Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

LSG ⁴ Tu ne te feras point d'image taillée, ni de représentation quelconque des choses qui sont en haut dans les cieux, qui sont en bas sur la terre, et qui sont dans les eaux plus bas que la terre.

VULC ⁴ Non facies tibi sculptile, neque omnem similitudinem quæ est in cælo desuper, et quæ in terra deorsum, nec eorum quæ sunt in aquis sub terra.

KJV ⁶ And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

KJV ²⁴ An altar of earth thou shalt make unto me, and shalt sacrifice thereon thy burnt offerings, and thy peace offerings, thy sheep, and thine oxen: in all places where I record my name I will come unto thee, and I will bless thee.

KJV ²⁵ And if thou wilt make me an altar of stone, thou shalt not build it of hewn stone: for if thou lift up thy tool upon it, thou hast polluted it.

KJV ²⁶ Neither shalt thou go up by steps unto mine altar, that thy nakedness be not discovered thereon.
