KJV ¹ And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech.

KJV ² And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there.

OST ² Mais il arriva qu'étant partis du côté de l'Orient, ils trouvèrent une plaine dans le pays de Shinear, et ils y demeurèrent.

KJV ³ And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter.

OST ³ Et ils se dirent l'un à l'autre: Allons, faisons des briques, et cuisons-les au feu. Et la brique leur tint lieu de pierre, et le bitume leur tint lieu de mortier.

KJV ⁴ And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.

OST ⁴ Et ils dirent: Allons, bâtissons-nous une ville et une tour, dont le sommet soit dans les cieux, et faisons-nous un nom, de peur que nous ne soyons dispersés sur la face de toute la terre.

KJV ⁵ And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded.

OST ⁵ Et l'Éternel descendit pour voir la ville et la tour qu'avaient bâties les fils des hommes.

KJV ⁶ And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do.

OST ⁶ Et l'Éternel dit: Voici, c'est un seul peuple, et ils ont tous le même langage, et voilà ce qu'ils commencent à faire; et maintenant rien ne les empêchera d'exécuter tout ce qu'ils ont projeté.

KJV ⁷ Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another's speech.

OST ⁷ Allons, descendons, et confondons là leur langage, en sorte qu'ils n'entendent point le langage l'un de l'autre.

KJV ⁸ So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city.

OST ⁸ Et l'Éternel les dispersa de là sur la face de toute la terre, et ils cessèrent de bâtir la ville.

KJV ⁹ Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth.

OST ⁹ C'est pourquoi son nom fut appelé Babel (confusion); car l'Éternel y confondit le langage de toute la terre, et de là l'Éternel les dispersa sur toute la face de la terre.
