³ Au bout de quelque temps, Caïn offrit des produits de la terre en oblation à Yahweh ; ⁴ Abel, de son côté, offrit des premiers-nés de son troupeau et de leur graisse. ⁵ Yahweh regarda Abel et son offrande ; mais il ne regarda pas Caïn et son offrande. ⁶ Caïn en fut très irrité et son visage fut abattu. ⁷ Yahweh dit à Caïn : « Pourquoi es-tu irrité, et pourquoi ton visage est-il abattu ? Si tu fais bien, ne seras-tu pas agréé ? Et si tu ne fais pas bien, le péché ne se couche-t-il pas à ta porte ? Son désir se tourne vers toi ; mais toi, tu dois dominer sur lui. » ⁸ Caïn dit à Abel, son frère : « Allons aux champs. » Et, comme ils étaient dans les champs, Caïn s'éleva contre Abel, son frère, et le tua.

   ³ And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. ⁴ And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering: ⁵ But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
   ⁶ And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen? ⁷ If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
   ⁸ And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

³ Au bout de quelque temps, Caïn fit une offrande des produits de la terre à l'Eternel. ⁴ De son côté, Abel en fit une des premiers-nés de son troupeau et de leur graisse. L'Eternel porta un regard favorable sur Abel et sur son offrande, ⁵ mais pas sur Caïn et sur son offrande. Caïn fut très irrité et il arbora un air sombre. ⁶ L'Eternel dit à Caïn: «Pourquoi es-tu irrité et pourquoi arbores-tu un air sombre? ⁷ Certainement, si tu agis bien, tu te relèveras. Si en revanche tu agis mal, le péché est couché à la porte et ses désirs se portent vers toi, mais c'est à toi de dominer sur lui.»
⁸ Cependant, Caïn dit à son frère Abel: «Allons dans les champs» et, alors qu'ils étaient dans les champs, il se jeta sur lui et le tua.
