³⁶ Il leur dit aussi une parabole : "personne ne met à un vieux vêtement une pièce déchirée d'un vêtement neuf : autrement il déchire le neuf, et la pièce (prise) du neuf ne va pas avec le vieux. ³⁷ Personne non plus ne met du vin nouveau dans des outres vieilles : autrement, le vin nouveau fera éclater les outres, il se répandra, et les outres seront perdues. ³⁸ Mais il faut mettre le vin nouveau dans des outres neuves. ³⁹ Et personne, buvant du (vin) vieux, ne veut du nouveau, car il dit : le vieux est meilleur."

Luc 6

¹ Il arriva, un jour de sabbat, qu'il traversait des moissons, et ses disciples arrachaient et mangeaient les épis, en les frottant dans leurs mains. ² Quelques Pharisiens dirent : "pourquoi faîtes-vous ce qui n'est pas permis le jour du sabbat ? " ³ Jésus leur répondit : "n'avez-vous pas même lu ce que fit David, lorsqu'il eut faim, lui et ceux qui étaient avec lui : ⁴ comment il entra dans la maison de Dieu, prit les pains de proposition, en mangea et en donna à ceux qui étaient avec lui, alors qu'il n'est permis d'en manger qu'aux prêtres seuls ? " ⁵ Et il leur disait : "le Fils de l'homme est maître du sabbat." ⁶ Il arriva, un autre jour de sabbat, que Jésus entra dans la synagogue, et il enseignait. Et il se trouvait là un homme dont la main droite était sèche. ⁷ Or, les scribes et les Pharisiens l'épiaient (pour voir) s'il guérissait le jour du sabbat, afin de trouver à l'accuser. ⁸ Mais lui connaissait leurs pensées, et il dit à l'homme qui avait la main sèche : "lève-toi, et tiens-toi debout au milieu !" Et s'étant levé, il se tint debout. ⁹ Et Jésus leur dit : "Je vous le demande, est -il permis, le jour du sabbat, de faire du bien ou de faire du mal, de sauver une vie ou de l'ôter ?" ¹⁰ Et, après avoir promené son regard sur eux tous, il lui dit : "étends ta main." Il le fit et sa main redevint saine. ¹¹ Mais eux furent remplis de fureur, et ils s'entretenaient entre eux de ce qu'ils feraient à Jésus. ¹² Or, en ces jours-là, il s'en alla dans la montagne pour prier, et il passa la nuit à prier Dieu. ¹³ Quand il fut jour, il appela ses disciples, et il choisit douze d'entre eux, à qui il donna le nom d'apôtres : ¹⁴ Simon, à qui aussi il donna le nom de Pierre, André son frère, Jacques, Jean, Philippe, Barthélemy, ¹⁵ Matthieu, Thomas, Jacques fils d'Alphée, et Simon surnommé Zélote, ¹⁶ Judas fils de Jacques, et Judas Iscarioth, qui devint traître. ¹⁷ Etant descendu avec eux, il s'arrêta en un lieu en forme de plaine, ainsi qu'une foule nombreuse de ses disciples et une grande multitude de peuple de toute la Judée, de Jérusalem et du littoral de Tyr et de Sidon, ¹⁸ qui étaient venus pour l'entendre et pour être guéris de leurs maladies ; et ceux qui étaient tourmentés par des esprits impurs étaient guéris. ¹⁹ Et toute la foule cherchait à le toucher, parce qu'une vertu sortait de lui et les guérissait tous. ²⁰ Et lui, levant les yeux sur ses disciples, disait : "heureux, vous qui êtes pauvres, car le royaume de Dieu est à vous ! ²¹ Heureux, vous qui avez faim maintenant, car vous serez rassasiés ! Heureux, vous qui pleurez maintenant, car vous rirez ! ²² Heureux serez-vous, lorsque les hommes vous haïront, lorsqu'ils vous excommunieront et insulteront, et proscriront votre nom comme mauvais à cause du Fils de l'homme. ²³ Réjouissez-vous en ce jour-là et tressaillez (de joie), car voici que votre récompense est grande dans le ciel : c'est ainsi en effet que leurs pères traitaient les prophètes. ²⁴ Mais malheur à vous, les riches, car vous tenez votre consolation ! ²⁵ Malheur à vous, qui êtes repus maintenant, car vous aurez faim ! Malheur à vous, qui riez maintenant, car vous serez dans le deuil et dans les larmes ! ²⁶ Malheur à vous, quand tous les hommes diront du bien de vous ; car c'est ainsi que leurs pères traitaient les faux prophètes ! ²⁷ Mais à vous qui m'écoutez je dis : aimez vos ennemis, faites du bien à ceux qui vous haïssent, ²⁸ bénissez ceux qui vous maudissent, priez pour ceux qui vous calomnient. ²⁹ A celui qui te frappe sur une joue, présente encore l'autre ; et à celui qui t'enlève ton manteau, n'empêche pas (de prendre) aussi ta tunique. ³⁰ Donne à quiconque te demande, et à qui t'enlève ce qui est à toi, ne réclame point. ³¹ Et ce que vous voulez que les hommes fassent pour vous, faites-le pareillement pour eux. ³² Et si vous aimez ceux qui vous aiment, quel gré vous en saura-t-on ? Aussi bien, les pécheurs aiment ceux qui les aiment. ³³ Et si vous faites du bien à ceux qui vous font du bien, quel gré vous en saura-t-on ? Les pécheurs aussi en font autant. ³⁴ Et si vous prêtez à ceux de qui vous espérez recevoir, quel gré vous en saura-t-on ? Des pécheurs aussi prêtent à des pécheurs, afin de recevoir l'équivalent. ³⁵ Mais aimez vos ennemis, faites du bien et prêtez sans rien espérer en retour ; et votre récompense sera grande, et vous serez les fils du Très-Haut, lui qui est bon pour les ingrats et les méchants. ³⁶ Soyez miséricordieux, comme votre Père est miséricordieux. ³⁷ Et ne jugez point, et vous ne serez point jugés ; ne condamnez point, et vous ne serez point condamnés ; absolvez et vous serez absous. ³⁸ Donnez, et l'on vous donnera : on versera dans votre sein une bonne mesure, pressée, tassée, débordante ; car avec la mesure dont vous mesurez il vous sera mesuré en retour." ³⁹ Il leur dit aussi une parabole : "un aveugle peut-il conduire un aveugle ? Ne tomberont-ils pas tous les deux dans une fosse ? ⁴⁰ Il n'y a pas de disciple au-dessus du maître ; mais tout(disciple), son instruction achevée, sera comme son maître. ⁴¹ Pourquoi regardes-tu la paille qui est dans l'oeil de ton frère, et ne remarques-tu pas la poutre qui est dans ton oeil à toi ? ⁴² Ou comment peux-tu dire à ton frère : "frère, laisse-moi ôter la paille qui est dans ton oeil, " toi qui ne vois pas la poutre qui est dans ton oeil ? Hypocrite, ôte d'abord la poutre de ton oeil, et alors tu verras à ôter la paille qui est dans l'oeil de ton frère. ⁴³ En effet, il n'y a pas de bon arbre qui donne de mauvais fruits, ni non plus de mauvais arbre qui donne de bons fruits ; ⁴⁴ car chaque arbre se reconnaît à son propre fruit. On ne cueille pas des figues sur les épines ; on ne ramasse pas de raisin sur les ronces. ⁴⁵ L'homme bon sort le bien du trésor de bonté de son coeur ; et, du (trésor) de sa malice, l'homme mauvais sort le mal ; car sa bouche parle du trop-plein du coeur. ⁴⁶ Pourquoi m'appelez-vous : " Seigneur, Seigneur ! " et ne faites-vous pas ce que je dis ? ⁴⁷ Quiconque vient à moi, entend mes paroles et les met en pratique, je vous montrerai à qui il est semblable. ⁴⁸ Il est semblable à un homme qui bâtit une maison, qui a creusé bien avant, et en a posé le fondement sur le roc ; une inondation étant survenue, le torrent s'est rué contre cette maison, et il n'a pu l'ébranler, parce qu'elle était bien bâtie. ⁴⁹ Mais celui qui entend et qui ne met pas en pratique est semblable à un homme qui a bâti sa maison sur le sol, sans fondement ; le torrent s'est rué contre elle, et elle s'est écroulée aussitôt, et grande a été la ruine de cette maison. "

Luc 7

¹ Quand il eut achevé de faire entendre au peuple toutes ses paroles, il entra dans Capharnaüm. ² Or un centurion avait un serviteur malade, sur le point de mourir, et qui lui était cher. ³ Ayant entendu parler de Jésus, il lui députa quelques-uns des anciens des Juifs, le priant de venir sauver son serviteur. ⁴ Ceux-ci, étant arrivés auprès de Jésus, le priaient avec grande instance, disant : "il mérite que vous fassiez cela pour lui ; ⁵ car il aime notre nation, et c'est lui qui nous a bâti la synagogue. " ⁶ Et Jésus s'en alla avec eux. Déjà il était non loin de la maison, lorsque le centurion envoya des amis pour lui dire : "Seigneur, ne prenez pas cette peine, car je ne suis pas digne que vous entriez sous mon toit ; ⁷ aussi ne me suis-je pas même jugé digne de venir vers vous ; mais dites un mot et que mon serviteur soit guéri ! ⁸ Car moi qui suis soumis à des chefs, j'ai des soldats sous mes ordres, et je dis à l'un : "va, " et il va ; et à un autre : "viens," et il vient ; et à mon serviteur : "fais ceci," et il le fait." ⁹ En entendant cela, Jésus fut dans l'admiration pour lui et, se tournant, il dit à la foule qui le suivait : "Je vous le dis : même en Israël je n'ai pas trouvé une si grande foi." ¹⁰ Et s'en étant retournés à la maison, les envoyés trouvèrent le serviteur en bonne santé. ¹¹ Or il se rendit ensuite à une ville nommée Naïn ; ses disciples et une foule nombreuse faisaient route avec lui. ¹² Comme il approchait de la porte de la ville, voilà qu'on emportait un mort, fils unique de sa mère, laquelle était veuve, et une foule considérable (de gens) de la ville étaient avec elle. ¹³ Le Seigneur l'ayant vue, fut touché de compassion pour elle, et il lui dit : "ne pleurez pas." ¹⁴ Et s'approchant, il toucha le cercueil, et les porteurs s'arrêtèrent ; et il dit : " Jeune homme, je te le dis, lève-toi !" ¹⁵ Et le mort se dressa sur son séant et se mit à parler ; et il le rendit à sa mère. ¹⁶ Tous furent saisis de crainte, et ils glorifiaient Dieu en disant : "un grand prophète s'est levé parmi nous," et : "Dieu a visité son peuple." ¹⁷ Et cette parole (prononcée) à son sujet se répandit dans toute la Judée et dans tout le pays d'alentour. ¹⁸ Les disciples de Jean lui rapportèrent tout cela. Et Jean appela deux de ses disciples, ¹⁹ qu'il envoya vers Jésus pour lui dire : "êtes-vous celui qui doit venir, ou devons-nous en attendre un autre ?" ²⁰ Arrivés près de lui, les hommes lui dirent : "Jean-Baptiste nous a envoyés vers vous pour dire : êtes-vous celui qui doit venir, ou devons-nous en attendre un autre ?" ²¹ En ce même moment il guérit un grand nombre de personnes de maladies, d'infirmités et d'esprits mauvais, et il accorda de voir à beaucoup d'aveugles. ²² Puis il leur répondit : "allez rapporter à Jean ce que vous avez vu et entendu : les aveugles voient, les boiteux marchent, les lépreux sont guéris, les sourds entendent, les morts ressuscitent, les pauvres sont évangélisés. ²³ Heureux celui pour qui je ne serai pas une occasion de chute !" ²⁴ Lorsque les envoyés de Jean furent partis, il se mit à dire aux foules, au sujet de Jean : "qu'êtes-vous allés voir au désert ? Un roseau agité par le vent ? ²⁵ Qu'êtes-vous allés voir ? Un homme vêtu d'habits somptueux ? Mais ceux qui sont en habillement magnifique et dans les délices se trouvent dans les palais des rois. ²⁶ Enfin, qu'êtes-vous allés voir ? Un prophète ? Oui, vous dis-je, et plus qu'un prophète. ²⁷ C'est celui dont il est écrit : Voici que j'envoie mon messager en avant de vous, pour vous préparer la voie devant vous. ²⁸ Je vous le dis en effet, parmi les fils de la femme, nul n'est plus grand que Jean ; mais le plus petit dans le royaume de Dieu est plus grand que lui. ²⁹ Tout le peuple qui l'a entendu et les publicains ont reconnu la justice de Dieu, en se faisant baptiser du baptême de Jean ; ³⁰ mais les Pharisiens et les docteurs de la Loi ont rendu vain pour eux le dessein de Dieu, en ne se faisant pas baptiser par lui. ³¹ À qui donc comparerai-je les hommes de cette génération ? À qui sont-ils semblables ? ³² Ils sont semblables à des enfants qui sont assis sur une place publique et qui se crient les uns aux autres : "nous vous avons joué de la flûte pour vous, et vous n'avez pas dansé ; nous vous avons chanté une lamentation, et vous n'avez point pleuré." ³³ Jean le Baptiste, en effet, est venu, ne mangeant point de pain et ne buvant point de vin, et vous dites : "Il est possédé du démon." ³⁴ Le Fils de l'homme est venu, mangeant et buvant, et vous dites : "c'est un mangeur et un buveur de vin, un ami des publicains et des pécheurs." ³⁵ Et la Sagesse a été reconnue juste par tous ses enfants." ³⁶ Un Pharisien l'invitant à manger avec lui, il entra dans la maison du Pharisien et se mit à table. ³⁷ Et voici qu'une femme qui, sans la ville, était pécheresse, ayant appris qu'il était à table dans la maison du Pharisien, apporta un vase d'albâtre (plein) de parfum ; ³⁸ et se tenant par derrière, près de ses pieds, tout en pleurs, elle se mit à arroser ses pieds de ses larmes, et elle essuyait avec les cheveux de sa tête et embrassait ses pieds, et elle les oignait de parfum. ³⁹ À cette vue, le Pharisien qui l'avait invité se dit en lui-même : "s'il était prophète, il saurait qui et de quelle espèce est la femme qui le touche, que c'est une pécheresse." ⁴⁰ Et prenant la parole, Jésus lui dit : "Simon, j'ai quelque chose à te dire." Et lui : "Maître, parlez," dit-il. ⁴¹ "Un créancier avait deux débiteurs : l'un devait cinq cents deniers et l'autre cinquante. ⁴² Comme ils n'avaient pas de quoi rendre, il fit remise à tous les deux. Lequel donc d'entre eux l'aimera davantage ?" ⁴³ Simon répondit : "celui, je pense, auquel il a remis le plus." Il lui dit : "tu as bien jugé." ⁴⁴ Et, se tournant vers la femme, il dit à Simon : "vois-tu cette femme ? Je suis entré dans ta maison, et tu n'as pas versé d'eau sur mes pieds ; mais elle, elle a arrosé mes pieds de (ses) larmes et les a essuyés avec ses cheveux. ⁴⁵ Tu ne m'as point donné de baiser ; mais elle, depuis que je suis entré, elle ne cessait pas d'embrasser mes pieds. ⁴⁶ Tu n'as pas oint ma tête d'huile ; mais elle, elle a oint mes pieds de parfum. ⁴⁷ C'est pourquoi, je te le dis, ses nombreux péchés lui sont pardonnés, parce qu'elle a beaucoup aimé ; mais celui à qui l'on pardonne peu, aime peu." ⁴⁸ Et à elle, il dit : "tes péchés sont pardonnés." ⁴⁹ Et les convives se mirent à se dire en eux-mêmes : "qui est celui-ci qui même pardonne les péchés ?" ⁵⁰ Et il dit à la femme : "ta foi t'a sauvée, va en paix. "

Luc 8

¹ Ensuite il cheminait par les villes et par les bourgs, prêchant et annonçant la bonne nouvelle du royaume de Dieu ; et les Douze étaient avec lui, ² ainsi que quelques femmes qui avaient été guéries d'esprits mauvais et de maladies : Marie, surnommée la Magdaléenne, de laquelle étaient sortis sept démons ; ³ Jeanne, femme de Khouza intendant d'Hérode, Suzanne et plusieurs autres, qui les assistaient de leurs biens. ⁴ Comme une foule nombreuse s'amassait et que de toutes les villes on venait vers lui, il dit par parabole : ⁵ "Le semeur sortit pour semer sa semence ; et, pendant qu'il semait, du (grain) tomba le long du chemin ; il fut foulé aux pieds, et les oiseaux du ciel le mangèrent. ⁶ D'autre tomba sur de la pierre, et, après avoir poussé, se dessécha, parce qu'il n'avait pas d'humidité. ⁷ D'autre tomba dans les épines, et les épines poussant avec, l'étouffèrent. ⁸ D'autre tomba dans la bonne terre, et, après avoir poussé, donna du fruit au centuple. "parlant ainsi, il clamait : "qui a des oreilles pour entendre, entende !" ⁹ Ses disciples lui demandèrent ce que signifiait cette parabole : ¹⁰ "À vous, leur dit-il, il a été donné de connaître les mystères du royaume de Dieu ; mais pour les autres, (c'est) en paraboles, pour que regardant ils ne voient point, et qu'écoutant ils ne comprennent point. ¹¹ Voici ce que signifie la parabole : la semence, c'est la parole de Dieu. ¹² Ceux qui sont le long du chemin sont ceux qui ont entendu ; ensuite le diable vient, et il enlève la parole de leur coeur, de peur qu'ils ne croient et ne se sauvent. ¹³ Ceux qui sont sur de la pierre sont ceux qui, en entendant la parole, l'accueillent avec joie ; mais ils n'ont point de racine : ils croient pour un temps, et ils se retirent à l'heure de l'épreuve. ¹⁴ Ce qui est tombé dans les épines, ce sont ceux qui ont entendu, mais vont et se laissent étouffer par les sollicitudes, les richesses et les plaisirs de la vie, et ils n'arrivent point à maturité. ¹⁵ Ce qui est tombé dans la bonne terre, ce sont ceux qui, après avoir entendu la parole avec un coeur noble et bon, la gardent et portent du fruit grâce à la constance. ¹⁶ Personne, après avoir allumé une lampe, ne la couvre d'un vase ou ne la met sous un lit ; mais on la met sur un chandelier, afin que ceux qui entrent voient la lumière. ¹⁷ Car il n'y a rien de caché qui ne soit manifesté, ni rien de secret qui ne finisse par être connu et ne vienne au grand jour. ¹⁸ Prenez donc garde à la manière dont vous écoutez ; car on donnera à celui qui a, et à celui qui n'a pas, même ce qu'il croit avoir lui sera enlevé." ¹⁹ Sa mère et ses frères vinrent le trouver, mais ils ne pouvaient l'aborder à cause de la foule. ²⁰ On lui annonça : "votre mère et vos frères se tiennent dehors, et ils désirent vous voir." ²¹ Il leur répondit : "ma mère et mes frères sont ceux qui écoutent la parole de Dieu et qui la mettent en pratique." ²² Or, un jour, il monta en barque avec ses disciples et leur dit : " Passons à l'autre rive du lac." Et ils gagnèrent le large. ²³ Pendant qu'ils naviguaient, il s'endormit. Et un tourbillon de vent s'étant abattu sur le lac, ils étaient envahis par l'eau et se trouvaient en péril. ²⁴ S'approchant, ils le réveillèrent en disant : "Maître ! Maître ! nous périssons !" Il se réveilla et commanda avec force au vent et à la houle de l'eau, et le calme se fit. ²⁵ Puis il leur dit : "où est votre foi ? "Saisis de crainte et d'étonnement, ils se dirent les uns aux autres : " Quel est donc celui-ci, qu'il commande même au vent et à l'eau, et qu'ils lui obéissent ?" ²⁶ Ils abordèrent au pays des Gergéséniens, qui est vis-à-vis de la Galilée. ²⁷ Lorsqu'il fut débarqué à terre, vint à sa rencontre un homme de la ville, qui était possédé par des démons, qui depuis longtemps ne portait aucun vêtement et qui ne demeurait pas dans une maison, mais dans les tombeaux. ²⁸ Ayant aperçu Jésus, il poussa des cris, tomba à ses pieds et dit d'une voix forte : " Qu'avons-nous affaire ensemble, Jésus, Fils du Dieu très-haut ? De grâce, ne me tourmentez point." ²⁹ C'est qu'il ordonnait à l'esprit impur de sortir de cet homme. Bien des fois en effet il s'en était emparé, et on le tenait lié avec des chaînes et des entraves, bien gardé, mais, rompant les liens, il était poussé par le démon dans les lieux déserts. ³⁰ Jésus lui demanda : "quel est ton nom ?" Il dit : "Légion," car beaucoup de démons étaient entrés en lui. ³¹ Et ils le priaient de ne pas leur enjoindre de s'en aller dans l'abîme. ³² Or, il y avait là un assez grand troupeau de porcs qui paissaient sur la montagne ; et ils lui firent cette prière : qu'il leur permît d'entrer en eux ; et il le leur permit. ³³ Sortant de l'homme, les démons entrèrent dans les porcs ; et le troupeau, prenant sa course, se précipita par les pentes escarpées dans le lac, et s'y noya. ³⁴ Ceux qui le gardaient, à la vue de ce qui venait d'arriver, s'enfuirent, et ils racontèrent (la chose) dans la ville et dans la campagne. ³⁵ Ils sortirent pour voir ce qui était arrivé : ils vinrent à Jésus et trouvèrent l'homme de qui les démons étaient sortis, assis aux pieds de Jésus, vêtu et dans son bon sens ; ils furent saisis de frayeur. ³⁶ Ceux qui avaient vu leur racontèrent comment avait été guéri celui qui avait été possédé du démon. ³⁷ Et toute la gent du territoire des Gergéséniens lui demanda de s'éloigner d'eux, car ils étaient saisis d'une grande crainte. Et lui monta en barque pour s'en retourner. ³⁸ L'homme de qui les démons étaient sortis lui demandait la grâce de rester avec lui, mais il le congédia en disant : ³⁹ "Retourne dans ta maison, et fais le récit de tout ce que Dieu a fait pour toi. "Et il s'en alla et publia par toute la ville tout ce que Jésus avait fait pour lui. ⁴⁰ Jésus, à son retour, fut accueilli par la foule, car tous l'attendaient. ⁴¹ Et voici que vint un homme, nommé Jaïre, qui était chef de la synagogue ; tombant aux pieds de Jésus, il le suppliait d'entrer dans sa maison, ⁴² parce qu'il avait une fille unique, d'environ douze ans, qui se mourait. ⁴³ Comme il s'y rendait, les foules l'étouffaient. Or une femme qui avait un flux de sang depuis douze ans et qui, après avoir dépensé tout son bien en médecins, n'avait pu être guérie par aucun, ⁴⁴ s'approcha par derrière et toucha la houppe de son vêtement ; et à l'instant son flux de sang s'arrêta. ⁴⁵ Et Jésus dit : "qui m'a touché ? " Tous s'en défendant, Pierre dit : "Maître, la foule vous entoure et vous presse !" ⁴⁶ Mais Jésus dit : "quelqu'un m'a touché, car j'ai senti qu'une vertu était sortie de moi." ⁴⁷ Se voyant découverte, la femme vint toute tremblante se jeter à ses pieds, et elle raconta devant tout le peuple pour quel motif elle l'avait touché, et comment elle avait été guérie à l'instant. ⁴⁸ Il lui dit : "ma fille, ta foi t'a guérie ; va en paix." ⁴⁹ Il parlait encore, lorsque quelqu'un de chez le chef de synagogue vient dire : "ta fille est morte, n'importune plus le Maître." ⁵⁰ Jésus, qui avait entendu, s'adressa à lui : "Ne crains pas, crois seulement et elle sera guérie." ⁵¹ Arrivé à la maison, il ne laissa personne entrer avec lui, si ce n'est Pierre, Jean et Jacques, et le père de l'enfant et la mère. ⁵² Or tous pleuraient et se lamentaient sur elle. Il dit : "ne pleurez point ; elle n'est pas morte, mais elle dort." ⁵³ Et ils se moquaient de lui, sachant bien qu'elle était morte. ⁵⁴ Mais lui, la prenant par la main, dit à haute voix : "enfant, lève-toi !" ⁵⁵ Et son esprit revint, et elle se leva à l'instant ; et Jésus ordonna de lui donner à manger. ⁵⁶ Ses parents furent frappés de stupeur, et il leur recommanda de ne dire à personne ce qui était arrivé.

¹ Ayant convoqué les Douze, il leur donna puissance et autorité sur tous les démons, et pour guérir les maladies. ² Et il les envoya prêcher le royaume de Dieu et guérir les malades, ³ et il leur dit : "ne prenez rien pour la route, ni bâton, ni besace, ni pain, ni argent, et ne pas avoir deux tuniques. ⁴ En quelque maison que vous entriez, demeurez-y et repartez de là. ⁵ La ville dont les gens ne vous recevraient pas, sortez-en et secouez sur eux, en témoignage, la poussière de vos pieds." ⁶ Etant partis, ils allèrent de village en village, annonçant la bonne nouvelle et opérant partout des guérisons. ⁷ Or Hérode le tétrarque entendit parler de tout ce qui se passait, et il ne savait que penser, car les uns disaient que Jean était ressuscité des morts, ⁸ d'autres qu'Élie était apparu, d'autres qu'un des anciens prophètes était ressuscité. ⁹ Hérode dit : "Jean, je l'ai fait décapiter. Quel est donc celui dont j'entends dire de telles choses ?" Et il cherchait à le voir. ¹⁰ Les apôtres, à leur retour, lui racontèrent tout ce qu'ils avaient fait. Il les prit avec lui et se retira à l'écart dans la direction d'une ville nommée Bethsaïde. ¹¹ Les foules, l'ayant su, le suivirent. Les ayant accueillies, il leur parlait du royaume de dieu, et il rendit la santé à ceux qui en avaient besoin. ¹² Le jour commençait à baisser, et les Douze s'approchèrent et lui dirent : "renvoyez la foule, afin qu'ils s'en aillent loger dans les bourgs et les hameaux des environs et y trouvent de la nourriture ; car nous sommes ici dans un lieu désert." ¹³ Il leur dit : "donnez-leur vous-mêmes à manger. " Ils lui dirent : "nous n'avons pas plus de cinq pains et deux poissons, à moins peut-être que nous ne nous en allions nous-mêmes acheter des vivres pour tout ce peuple !" ¹⁴ Il y avait en effet environ cinq mille hommes. Il dit à ses disciples : "faites-les s'étendre par groupe d'environ cinquante." ¹⁵ Et ils firent ainsi et les firent tous s'étendre. ¹⁶ Il prit les cinq pains et les deux poissons, leva les yeux au ciel, prononça la bénédiction, les rompit et les donna aux disciples pour les servir à la foule. ¹⁷ Tous mangèrent et furent rassasiés, et l'on emporta, de ce qui leur était resté, douze corbeilles de morceaux. ¹⁸ Un jour qu'il priait seul, ayant ses disciples avec lui, il leur fit cette question : "qui suis-je, au dire des foules ?" ¹⁹ Ils répondirent : "Jean le Baptiste ; d'autres, Élie ; d'autres, qu'un des anciens prophètes est ressuscité." ²⁰ Il leur dit : "et vous, qui dites-vous que je suis ?" Pierre, prenant la parole, dit : "le Christ de Dieu." ²¹ Et il leur défendit sévèrement de dire cela à personne : ²² "Il faut, ajouta-t-il, que le Fils de l'homme souffre beaucoup, qu'il soit rejeté par les anciens, par les grands prêtres et par les scribes, qu'il soit mis à mort et qu'il ressuscite le troisième jour." ²³ Et, s'adressant à tous, il dit : "si quelqu'un veut venir à ma suite, qu'il se renonce lui-même, qu'il prenne sa croix chaque jour et me suive. ²⁴ Car celui qui voudra sauver sa vie la perdra ; et celui qui perdra sa vie à cause de moi, la sauvera. ²⁵ Quel profit en effet a l'homme qui a gagné le monde entier, mais qui s'est ruiné lui-même ou perdu ? ²⁶ Celui qui aura eu honte de moi et de mes paroles, le Fils de l'homme aura honte de lui, lorsqu'il viendra dans sa gloire et celle du Père et des saints anges. ²⁷ Je vous le dis en vérité, quelques-uns de ceux qui sont ici présents ne goûteront point la mort qu'ils n'aient vu le royaume de Dieu." ²⁸ Il se passa environ huit jours après (qu'il eut dit) ces paroles, et, prenant avec lui Pierre, Jean et Jacques, il monta sur la montagne pour prier. ²⁹ Pendant qu'il priait, l'aspect de son visage devint autre, et son vêtement d'un blanc éblouissant. ³⁰ Et voilà que deux hommes conversaient avec lui : c'étaient Moïse et Élie, ³¹ qui, apparaissant en gloire, parlaient de sa mort qu'il devait accomplir à Jérusalem. ³² Pierre et ses compagnons étaient accablés de sommeil ; mais, s'étant réveillés, ils virent sa gloire et les deux hommes qui se tenaient avec lui. ³³ Or, comme ils se séparaient de lui, Pierre dit à Jésus : "Maître, il nous est bon d'être ici ; faisons trois tentes : une pour vous, une pour Moïse et une pour Élie," ne sachant pas ce qu'il disait. ³⁴ Comme il disait cela, il se fit une nuée qui les couvrit de son ombre ; et ils furent saisis de frayeur tandis qu'ils entraient dans la nuée. ³⁵ Et de la nuée se fit entendre une voix qui disait : "celui-ci est mon Fils élu : écoutez-le." ³⁶ Pendant que la voix parlait, Jésus se trouva seul.    ¹ Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum. ² And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die. ³ And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant. ⁴ And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this: ⁵ For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue. ⁶ Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof: ⁷ Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed. ⁸ For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. ⁹ When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. ¹⁰ And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.

   ³⁶ And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. ³⁷ And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, ³⁸ And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. ³⁹ Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. ⁴⁰ And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. ⁴¹ There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. ⁴² And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both.    ¹ And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him, ² And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, ³ And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.
   ⁴ And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable: ⁵ A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. ⁶ And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. ⁷ And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. ⁸ And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. ⁹ And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be? ¹⁰ And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. ¹¹ Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. ¹² Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. ¹³ They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. ¹⁴ And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. ¹⁵ But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. ¹⁶ No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light. ¹⁷ For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad. ¹⁸ Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have. ¹⁹ Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press. ²⁰ And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee. ²¹ And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.

And they launched forth. ²³ But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. ²⁴ And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. ²⁵ And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him. ²⁶ And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. ²⁷ And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. ²⁸ When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. ²⁹ (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.) ³⁰ And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. ³¹ And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. ³² And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. ³³ Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked. ³⁴ When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country. ³⁵ Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. ³⁶ They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed. ³⁷ Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again. ³⁸ Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, ³⁹ Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.
   ⁴⁰ And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him. ⁴¹ And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house: ⁴² For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him. ⁴³ And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, ⁴⁴ Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. ⁴⁵ And Jesus said, Who touched me?    ¹ Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. ² And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. ³ And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. ⁴ And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart. ⁵ And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them. ⁶ And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where. ⁷ Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead; ⁸ And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again. ⁹ And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him.

And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. ¹¹ And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. ¹² And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place. ¹³ But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people. ¹⁴ For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company. ¹⁵ And they did so, and made them all sit down. ¹⁶ Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. ¹⁷ And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.
   ¹⁸ And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am? ¹⁹ They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again. ²⁰ He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God. ²¹ And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing; ²² Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day. ²³ And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. ²⁴ For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. ²⁵ For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? ²⁶ For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels. ²⁷ But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.
   ²⁸ And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. ²⁹ And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. ³⁰ And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: ³¹ Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. ³² But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. ³³ And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. ³⁴ While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. ³⁵ And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. ³⁶ And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.
