KJV ³ And he read therein before the street that was before the water gate from the morning until midday, before the men and the women, and those that could understand; and the ears of all the people were attentive unto the book of the law.

S21 ³ Esdras a lu dans le livre depuis le matin jusqu'à la mi-journée, sur la place qui fait face à la porte des eaux, en présence des hommes et des femmes, de ceux qui étaient en âge de comprendre. Le peuple tout entier s'est montré attentif à la lecture du livre de la loi.

KJV ⁴ And Ezra the scribe stood upon a pulpit of wood, which they had made for the purpose; and beside him stood Mattithiah, and Shema, and Anaiah, and Urijah, and Hilkiah, and Maaseiah, on his right hand; and on his left hand, Pedaiah, and Mishael, and Malchiah, and Hashum, and Hashbadana, Zechariah, and Meshullam.

S21 ⁴ Le scribe Esdras se tenait debout sur une estrade en bois, fabriquée pour l'occasion. A côté de lui, à sa droite, se tenaient Matthithia, Shéma, Anaja, Urie, Hilkija et Maaséja, et à sa gauche Pedaja, Mishaël, Malkija, Hashum, Hashbaddana, Zacharie et Meshullam.

KJV ⁵ And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people; (for he was above all the people;) and when he opened it, all the people stood up:

S21 ⁵ Esdras a ouvert le livre de façon visible pour le peuple dans son entier – puisqu'il était surélevé par rapport à lui – et lorsqu'il a fait ce geste, tout le peuple s'est mis debout.

KJV ⁶ And Ezra blessed the LORD, the great God. And all the people answered, Amen, Amen, with lifting up their hands: and they bowed their heads, and worshipped the LORD with their faces to the ground.

S21 ⁶ Esdras a béni l'Eternel, le grand Dieu, et tous les membres du peuple ont répondu: «Amen! Amen!» en levant les mains, puis ils se sont prosternés et ont adoré l'Eternel, le visage contre terre.

KJV ⁷ Also Jeshua, and Bani, and Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodijah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, and the Levites, caused the people to understand the law: and the people stood in their place.

S21 ⁷ Josué, Bani, Shérébia, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethaï, Hodija, Maaséja, Kelitha, Azaria, Jozabad, Hanan et Pelaja, qui étaient lévites, expliquaient la loi au peuple, et celui-ci est resté debout sur place.

KJV ⁸ So they read in the book in the law of God distinctly, and gave the sense, and caused them to understand the reading.

S21 ⁸ Ils lisaient distinctement dans le livre de la loi de Dieu et ils en donnaient le sens pour faire comprendre ce qu'ils avaient lu.
