KJV ³² And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

KJV ²⁷ How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

VULC ²⁷ Usquequo multitudo hæc pessima murmurat contra me ? querelas filiorum Israël audivi.

DRB ²⁸ Dis-leur : Je suis vivant, dit l'Éternel, si je ne vous fais comme vous avez parlé à mes oreilles … !

KJV ²⁸ Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:

VULC ²⁸ Dic ergo eis : Vivo ego, ait Dominus : sicut locuti estis audiente me, sic faciam vobis.

DRB ²⁹ Vos cadavres tomberont dans ce désert. Et tous ceux d'entre vous qui ont été dénombrés, selon tout le compte qui a été fait de vous, depuis l'âge de vingt ans et au-dessus, vous qui avez murmuré contre moi,…

KJV ²⁹ Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward which have murmured against me.

VULC ²⁹ In solitudine hac jacebunt cadavera vestra. Omnes qui numerati estis a viginti annis et supra, et murmurastis contra me,

DRB ³⁰ si vous entrez dans le pays touchant lequel j'ai levé ma main pour vous y faire habiter, excepté Caleb, fils de Jephunné, et Josué, fils de Nun !

KJV ³⁰ Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

VULC ³⁰ non intrabitis terram, super quam levavi manum meam ut habitare vos facerem, præter Caleb filium Jephone, et Josue filium Nun.

DRB ³¹ Mais vos petits enfants, dont vous avez dit qu'ils seraient une proie, je les ferai entrer, et ils connaîtront le pays que vous avez méprisé.

KJV ³¹ But your little ones, which ye said should be a prey, them will I bring in, and they shall know the land which ye have despised.

VULC ³¹ Parvulos autem vestros, de quibus dixistis quod prædæ hostibus forent, introducam, ut videant terram, quæ vobis displicuit.

DRB ³² Et quant à vous, vos cadavres tomberont dans ce désert.

KJV ³² But as for you, your carcases, they shall fall in this wilderness.

VULC ³² Vestra cadavera jacebunt in solitudine.

DRB ³³ Et vos fils seront paissant dans le désert quarante ans, et ils porteront [la peine de] vos prostitutions, jusqu'à ce que vos cadavres soient consumés dans le désert.

KJV ³³ And your children shall wander in the wilderness forty years, and bear your whoredoms, until your carcases be wasted in the wilderness.

DRB ³⁴ Selon le nombre des jours que vous avez mis à reconnaître le pays, quarante jours, un jour pour une année, vous porterez vos iniquités quarante ans, et vous connaîtrez ce que c'est que je me sois détourné de vous.

KJV ³⁴ After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise.

VULC ³⁴ juxta numerum quadraginta dierum, quibus considerastis terram : annus pro die imputabitur. Et quadraginta annis recipietis iniquitates vestras, et scietis ultionem meam :

DRB ³⁵ Moi, l'Éternel, j'ai parlé ; si je ne fais ceci à toute cette méchante assemblée qui s'est assemblée contre moi ! Ils seront consumes dans ce désert, et ils y mourront.

KJV ³⁵ I the LORD have said, I will surely do it unto all this evil congregation, that are gathered together against me: in this wilderness they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

VULC ³⁵ quoniam sicut locutus sum, ita faciam omni multitudini huic pessimæ, quæ consurrexit adversum me : in solitudine hac deficiet, et morietur.

DRB ³⁶ Et les hommes que Moïse avait envoyés pour reconnaître le pays, et qui revinrent et firent murmurer contre lui toute l'assemblée en décriant le pays,

KJV ³⁶ And the men, which Moses sent to search the land, who returned, and made all the congregation to murmur against him, by bringing up a slander upon the land,

VULC ³⁶ Igitur omnes viri, quos miserat Moyses ad contemplandam terram, et qui reversi murmurare fecerant contra eum omnem multitudinem, detrahentes terræ quod esset mala,

DRB ³⁷ ces hommes qui avaient décrié le pays, moururent de plaie devant l'Éternel.

KJV ³⁷ Even those men that did bring up the evil report upon the land, died by the plague before the LORD.

VULC ³⁷ mortui sunt atque percussi in conspectu Domini.

DRB ³⁸ Mais d'entre les hommes qui étaient allés pour reconnaître le pays, Josué, fils de Nun, et Caleb, fils de Jephunné, [seuls] vécurent.

KJV ³⁸ But Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of the men that went to search the land, lived still.

VULC ³⁸ Josue autem filius Nun, et Caleb filius Jephone, vixerunt ex omnibus qui perrexerant ad considerandam terram.

DRB ³⁹ Et Moïse dit ces choses à tous les fils d'Israël, et le peuple mena très grand deuil.

KJV ³⁹ And Moses told these sayings unto all the children of Israel: and the people mourned greatly.

VULC ³⁹ Locutusque est Moyses universa verba hæc ad omnes filios Israël, et luxit populus nimis.

DRB ⁴⁰ Et ils se levèrent de bon matin et montèrent sur le sommet de la montagne, disant : Nous voici ; nous monterons au lieu dont l'Éternel a parlé ; car nous avons péché.

KJV ⁴⁰ And they rose up early in the morning, and gat them up into the top of the mountain, saying, Lo, we be here, and will go up unto the place which the LORD hath promised: for we have sinned.

VULC ⁴⁰ Et ecce mane primo surgentes ascenderunt verticem montis, atque dixerunt : Parati sumus ascendere ad locum, de quo Dominus locutus est : quia peccavimus.

DRB ⁴¹ Et Moïse dit : Pourquoi transgressez-vous ainsi le commandement de l'Éternel ? Cela ne réussira point.

KJV ⁴¹ And Moses said, Wherefore now do ye transgress the commandment of the LORD? but it shall not prosper.

VULC ⁴¹ Quibus Moyses : Cur, inquit, transgredimini verbum Domini, quod vobis non cedet in prosperum ?

DRB ⁴² Ne montez pas, car l'Éternel n'est pas au milieu de vous, afin que vous ne soyez pas battus devant vos ennemis ;

KJV ⁴² Go not up, for the LORD is not among you; that ye be not smitten before your enemies.

VULC ⁴² nolite ascendere : non enim est Dominus vobiscum : ne corruatis coram inimicis vestris.

DRB ⁴³ car l'Amalékite et le Cananéen sont là devant vous, et vous tomberez par l'épée ; car, parce que vous vous êtes détournés de* l'Éternel, l'Éternel ne sera pas avec vous.

KJV ⁴³ For the Amalekites and the Canaanites are there before you, and ye shall fall by the sword: because ye are turned away from the LORD, therefore the LORD will not be with you.

VULC ⁴³ Amalecites et Chananæus ante vos sunt, quorum gladio corruetis, eo quod nolueritis acquiescere Domino : nec erit Dominus vobiscum.

DRB ⁴⁴ Toutefois ils s'obstinèrent* à monter sur le sommet de la montagne ; mais l'arche de l'alliance de l'Éternel et Moïse ne bougèrent pas du milieu du camp.

KJV ⁴⁴ But they presumed to go up unto the hill top: nevertheless the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and Moses, departed not out of the camp.

VULC ⁴⁴ At illi contenebrati ascenderunt in verticem montis. Arca autem testamenti Domini et Moyses non recesserunt de castris.

DRB ⁴⁵ Et les Amalékites et les Cananéens qui habitaient cette montagne-là, descendirent, et les battirent, et les taillèrent en pièces jusqu'à Horma*.

KJV ⁴⁵ Then the Amalekites came down, and the Canaanites which dwelt in that hill, and smote them, and discomfited them, even unto Hormah.

VULC ⁴⁵ Descenditque Amalecites et Chananæus, qui habitabat in monte : et percutiens eos atque concidens, persecutus est eos usque Horma.

VULC ³⁴ Ibi vidimus monstra quædam filiorum Enac de genere giganteo : quibus comparati, quasi locustæ videbamur.
