KJV ⁶ And Saul said unto the Kenites, Go, depart, get you down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them: for ye shewed kindness to all the children of Israel, when they came up out of Egypt. So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

BCC ¹¹ « Je me repens d'avoir établi Saül pour roi, car il s'est détourné de moi, et il n'a pas exécuté mes paroles. » Samuel s'attrista, et il cria vers Yahweh toute la nuit.

KJV ¹¹ It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night.

LSG ¹¹ Je me repens d'avoir établi Saül pour roi, car il se détourne de moi et il n'observe point mes paroles. Samuel fut irrité, et il cria à l'Éternel toute la nuit.

VULC ¹¹ Pœnitet me quod constituerim Saul regem : quia dereliquit me, et verba mea opere non implevit. Contristatusque est Samuel, et clamavit ad Dominum tota nocte.

BCC ¹² Samuel se leva de bon matin pour aller à la rencontre de Saül ; et on avertit Samuel en disant : « Saül est allé à Carmel, et voici qu'il s'est élevé un monument ; puis il s'en est retourné et, passant plus loin, il est descendu à Galgala. »

KJV ¹² And when Samuel rose early to meet Saul in the morning, it was told Samuel, saying, Saul came to Carmel, and, behold, he set him up a place, and is gone about, and passed on, and gone down to Gilgal.

VULC ¹⁴ Dixitque Samuel : Et quæ est hæc vox gregum, quæ resonat in auribus meis, et armentorum, quam ego audio ?

WLC ¹⁴ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל וּמֶ֛ה קֽוֹל־ הַצֹּ֥אן הַזֶּ֖ה בְּאָזְנָ֑י וְק֣וֹל הַבָּקָ֔ר אֲשֶׁ֥ר אָנֹכִ֖י שֹׁמֵֽעַ׃

BCC ¹⁵ Saül répondit : « Ils les ont amenés de chez les Amalécites, car le peuple a épargné le meilleur des brebis et des boeufs pour les sacrifier à Yahweh, ton Dieu ; le reste, nous l'avons voué à l'anathème. »

KJV ¹⁵ And Saul said, They have brought them from the Amalekites: for the people spared the best of the sheep and of the oxen, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed.

LSG ¹⁵ Saül répondit: Ils les ont amenés de chez les Amalécites, parce que le peuple a épargné les meilleures brebis et les meilleurs boeufs, afin de les sacrifier à l'Éternel, ton Dieu ; et le reste, nous l'avons dévoué par interdit.

VULC ¹⁵ Et ait Saul : De Amalec adduxerunt ea : pepercit enim populus melioribus ovibus et armentis ut immolarentur Domino Deo tuo, reliqua vero occidimus.

BCC ¹⁷ Samuel dit : « Est-ce que, lorsque tu étais petit à tes propres yeux, tu n'es pas devenu le chef des tribus d'Israël, et Yahweh ne t'a-t-il pas oint pour roi sur Israël ?

KJV ¹⁷ And Samuel said, When thou wast little in thine own sight, wast thou not made the head of the tribes of Israel, and the LORD anointed thee king over Israel?

LSG ¹⁷ Samuel dit: Lorsque tu étais petit à tes yeux, n'es-tu pas devenu le chef des tribus d'Israël, et l'Éternel ne t'a-t-il pas oint pour que tu sois roi sur Israël ?

VULC ¹⁷ Et ait Samuel : Nonne cum parvulus esses in oculis tuis, caput in tribubus Israël factus es ? unxitque te Dominus in regem super Israël,

WLC ¹⁷ וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֔ל הֲל֗וֹא אִם־ קָטֹ֤ן אַתָּה֙ בְּעֵינֶ֔יךָ רֹ֛אשׁ שִׁבְטֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אָ֑תָּה וַיִּמְשָׁחֲךָ֧ יְהוָ֛ה לְמֶ֖לֶךְ עַל־ יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃

BCC ¹⁸ Yahweh t'avait envoyé dans le chemin en disant : Va, et dévoue à l'anathème ces pécheurs, les Amalécites, et combats-les jusqu'à ce qu'ils soient exterminés.

KJV ¹⁸ And the LORD sent thee on a journey, and said, Go and utterly destroy the sinners the Amalekites, and fight against them until they be consumed.

WLC ¹⁸ וַיִּשְׁלָחֲךָ֥ יְהוָ֖ה בְּדָ֑רֶךְ וַיֹּ֗אמֶר לֵ֣ךְ וְהַחֲרַמְתָּ֞ה אֶת־ הַֽחַטָּאִים֙ אֶת־ עֲמָלֵ֔ק וְנִלְחַמְתָּ֣ ב֔וֹ עַ֥ד כַּלּוֹתָ֖ם אֹתָֽם׃

BCC ¹⁹ Pourquoi n'as-tu pas écouté la voix de Yahweh, et t'es-tu jeté sur le butin, et as-tu fait ce qui est mal aux yeux de Yahweh ? »

KJV ¹⁹ Wherefore then didst thou not obey the voice of the LORD, but didst fly upon the spoil, and didst evil in the sight of the LORD?

LSG ¹⁹ Pourquoi n'as-tu pas écouté la voix de l'Éternel ? pourquoi t'es-tu jeté sur le butin, et as-tu fait ce qui est mal aux yeux de l'Éternel ?

VULC ¹⁹ Quare ergo non audisti vocem Domini : sed versus ad prædam es, et fecisti malum in oculis Domini ?

WLC ¹⁹ וְלָ֥מָּה לֹא־ שָׁמַ֖עְתָּ בְּק֣וֹל יְהוָ֑ה וַתַּ֙עַט֙ אֶל־ הַשָּׁלָ֔ל וַתַּ֥עַשׂ הָרַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָֽה׃

BCC ²⁰ Saül dit à Samuel : « Mais oui, j'ai écouté la voix de Yahweh, et j'ai marché dans le chemin où Yahweh m'envoyait. J'ai amené Agag, roi d'Amalec, et j'ai voué Amalec à l'anathème.

KJV ²⁰ And Saul said unto Samuel, Yea, I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and have gone the way which the LORD sent me, and have brought Agag the king of Amalek, and have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

LSG ²⁰ Saül répondit à Samuel: J'ai bien écouté la voix de l'Éternel, et j'ai suivi le chemin par lequel m'envoyait l'Éternel. J'ai amené Agag, roi d'Amalek, et j'ai dévoué par interdit les Amalécites ;

VULC ²⁰ Et ait Saul ad Samuelem : Immo audivi vocem Domini, et ambulavi in via per quam misit me Dominus, et adduxi Agag regem Amalec, et Amalec interfeci.

KJV ²¹ But the people took of the spoil, sheep and oxen, the chief of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice unto the LORD thy God in Gilgal.

LSG ²¹ mais le peuple a pris sur le butin des brebis et des boeufs, comme prémices de ce qui devait être dévoué, afin de les sacrifier à l'Éternel, ton Dieu, à Guilgal.

WLC ²¹ וַיִּקַּ֨ח הָעָ֧ם מֵהַשָּׁלָ֛ל צֹ֥אן וּבָקָ֖ר רֵאשִׁ֣ית הַחֵ֑רֶם לִזְבֹּ֛חַ לַֽיהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהֶ֖יךָ בַּגִּלְגָּֽל׃

BCC ²² Samuel dit : « Yahweh trouve-t-il du plaisir aux holocaustes et aux sacrifices, comme à l'obéissance à la voix de Yahweh ? L'obéissance vaut mieux que le sacrifice et la docilité que la graisse des béliers.

KJV ²² And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.

LSG ²² Samuel dit: L'Éternel trouve-t-il du plaisir dans les holocaustes et les sacrifices, comme dans l'obéissance à la voix de l'Éternel ? Voici, l'obéissance vaut mieux que les sacrifices, et l'observation de sa parole vaut mieux que la graisse des béliers.

VULC ²² Et ait Samuel : Numquid vult Dominus holocausta et victimas, et non potius ut obediatur voci Domini ? melior est enim obedientia quam victimæ, et auscultare magis quam offerre adipem arietum.

WLC ²² וַיֹּ֣אמֶר שְׁמוּאֵ֗ל הַחֵ֤פֶץ לַֽיהוָה֙ בְּעֹל֣וֹת וּזְבָחִ֔ים כִּשְׁמֹ֖עַ בְּק֣וֹל יְהוָ֑ה הִנֵּ֤ה שְׁמֹ֙עַ֙ מִזֶּ֣בַח ט֔וֹב לְהַקְשִׁ֖יב מֵחֵ֥לֶב אֵילִֽים׃

BCC ²³ Car la rébellion est aussi coupable que la divination, et la résistance que l'idolâtrie et les théraphim. Puisque tu as rejeté la parole de Yahweh, il te rejette aussi pour que tu ne sois plus roi. »

KJV ²³ For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

LSG ²³ Car la désobéissance est aussi coupable que la divination, et la résistance ne l'est pas moins que l'idolâtrie et les théraphim. Puisque tu as rejeté la parole de l'Éternel, il te rejette aussi comme roi.

VULC ²³ Quoniam quasi peccatum ariolandi est, repugnare : et quasi scelus idololatriæ, nolle acquiescere. Pro eo ergo quod abjecisti sermonem Domini, abjecit te Dominus ne sis rex.

KJV ²⁶ And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel.

BCC ³³ Samuel dit : « De même que ton épée a privé des femmes de leurs enfants, ainsi ta mère sera privée d'enfants, entre les femmes ! » Et Samuel coupa Agag en morceaux devant Yahweh, à Galgala.

KJV ³³ And Samuel said, As the sword hath made women childless, so shall thy mother be childless among women. And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the LORD in Gilgal.

BCC ³⁵ Et Samuel ne revit plus Saül jusqu'au jour de sa mort. Comme Samuel pleurait sur Saül, car Yahweh s'était repenti d'avoir fait Saül roi sur Israël,

KJV ³⁵ And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.

LSG ³⁵ Samuel n'alla plus voir Saül jusqu'au jour de sa mort ; car Samuel pleurait sur Saül, parce que l'Éternel se repentait d'avoir établi Saül roi d'Israël.

BCC ² Samuel dit : « Comment irais-je ? Saül l'apprendra, et il me tuera. » Et Yahweh dit : « Tu prendras avec toi une génisse, et tu diras : C'est pour offrir un sacrifice à Yahweh que je suis venu.

KJV ² And Samuel said, How can I go? if Saul hear it, he will kill me. And the LORD said, Take an heifer with thee, and say, I am come to sacrifice to the LORD.

LSG ² Samuel dit: Comment irai-je ? Saül l'apprendra, et il me tuera. Et l'Éternel dit: Tu emmèneras avec toi une génisse, et tu diras: Je viens pour offrir un sacrifice à l'Éternel.

VULC ² Et ait Samuel : Quomodo vadam ? audiet enim Saul, et interficiet me. Et ait Dominus : Vitulum de armento tolles in manu tua, et dices : Ad immolandum Domino veni.

KJV ⁴ And Samuel did that which the LORD spake, and came to Bethlehem. And the elders of the town trembled at his coming, and said, Comest thou peaceably?

WLC ⁴ וַיַּ֣עַשׂ שְׁמוּאֵ֗ל אֵ֚ת אֲשֶׁ֣ר דִּבֶּ֣ר יְהוָ֔ה וַיָּבֹ֖א בֵּ֣ית לָ֑חֶם וַיֶּחֶרְד֞וּ זִקְנֵ֤י הָעִיר֙ לִקְרָאת֔וֹ וַיֹּ֖אמֶר שָׁלֹ֥ם בּוֹאֶֽךָ׃

BCC ⁵ Il répondit : « Pour la paix ! Je viens pour offrir un sacrifice à Yahweh. Sanctifiez-vous et venez avec moi au sacrifice. » Et il sanctifia Isaï et ses fils et les invita au sacrifice.

KJV ⁵ And he said, Peaceably: I am come to sacrifice unto the LORD: sanctify yourselves, and come with me to the sacrifice. And he sanctified Jesse and his sons, and called them to the sacrifice.

LSG ⁵ Il répondit: Oui ; je viens pour offrir un sacrifice à l'Éternel. Sanctifiez-vous, et venez avec moi au sacrifice. Il fit aussi sanctifier Isaï et ses fils, et il les invita au sacrifice.

BCC ⁶ Lorsqu'ils furent entrés, Samuel aperçut Eliab et dit : « Certainement l'oint de Yahweh est devant lui. »

KJV ⁶ And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD's anointed is before him.

BCC ⁷ Et Yahweh dit à Samuel : « Ne prends pas garde à sa figure et à la hauteur de sa taille, car je l'ai écarté. Il ne s'agit pas de ce que l'homme voit ; l'homme regarde le visage, mais Yahweh regarde le coeur. »

KJV ⁷ But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.

LSG ⁷ Et l'Éternel dit à Samuel: Ne prends point garde à son apparence et à la hauteur de sa taille, car je l'ai rejeté. L'Éternel ne considère pas ce que l'homme considère ; l'homme regarde à ce qui frappe les yeux, mais l'Éternel regarde au coeur.

VULC ⁷ Et dixit Dominus ad Samuelem : Ne respicias vultum ejus, neque altitudinem staturæ ejus : quoniam abjeci eum, nec juxta intuitum hominis ego judico : homo enim videt ea quæ parent, Dominus autem intuetur cor.

BCC ⁴⁷ et toute cette multitude saura que ce n'est ni par l'épée ou par la lance que Yahweh sauve, car à Yahweh appartient la guerre, et il vous a livrés entre nos mains. »

KJV ⁴⁷ And all this assembly shall know that the LORD saveth not with sword and spear: for the battle is the LORD's, and he will give you into our hands.

LSG ⁴⁷ Et toute cette multitude saura que ce n'est ni par l'épée ni par la lance que l'Éternel sauve. Car la victoire appartient à l'Éternel. Et il vous livre entre nos mains.

BCC ⁴⁸ Le Philistin, s'étant levé, se mit en marche et s'avança au-devant de David, et David se hâta de courir, vers le front de la troupe, à la rencontre du Philistin.

KJV ⁴⁸ And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came, and drew nigh to meet David, that David hastened, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine.

LSG ⁴⁸ Aussitôt que le Philistin se mit en mouvement pour marcher au-devant de David, David courut sur le champ de bataille à la rencontre du Philistin.

VULC ⁴⁸ Cum ergo surrexisset Philisthæus, et veniret, et appropinquaret contra David, festinavit David et cucurrit ad pugnam ex adverso Philisthæi.

BCC ⁴⁹ David mit la main dans sa gibecière, en retira une pierre et la lança avec sa fronde ; il frappa le Philistin au front, et la pierre s'enfonça dans son front, et il tomba le visage contre terre.

BCC ⁵⁰ Ainsi David, avec une fronde et une pierre, fut plus fort que le Philistin, il frappa à mort le Philistin. Et il n'y avait pas d'épée dans la main de David.

KJV ⁵⁰ So David prevailed over the Philistine with a sling and with a stone, and smote the Philistine, and slew him; but there was no sword in the hand of David.

BCC ⁵¹ David courut, s'arrêta près du Philistin et, s'étant saisi de son épée qu'il tira du fourreau, il le tua et lui coupa la tête avec elle.

KJV ⁵² And the men of Israel and of Judah arose, and shouted, and pursued the Philistines, until thou come to the valley, and to the gates of Ekron. And the wounded of the Philistines fell down by the way to Shaaraim, even unto Gath, and unto Ekron.
