BCC ¹ Adam connut Ève, sa femme ; elle conçut et enfanta Caïn, et elle dit « j'ai acquis un homme avec le secours de Yahweh ! »

KJV ¹ And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.

S21 ¹ Adam eut des relations conjugales avec sa femme Eve. Elle tomba enceinte et mit au monde Caïn. Elle dit: «J'ai donné vie à un homme avec l'aide de l'Eternel.»

BCC ² Elle enfanta encore Abel, son frère. Abel fut pasteur de brebis, et Caïn était laboureur.

KJV ² And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

S21 ² Elle mit encore au monde le frère de Caïn, Abel. Abel fut berger et Caïn fut cultivateur.

BCC ³ Au bout de quelque temps, Caïn offrit des produits de la terre en oblation à Yahweh ;

S21 ⁴ De son côté, Abel en fit une des premiers-nés de son troupeau et de leur graisse. L'Eternel porta un regard favorable sur Abel et sur son offrande,

BCC ⁵ Yahweh regarda Abel et son offrande ; mais il ne regarda pas Caïn et son offrande.

KJV ⁵ But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

S21 ⁵ mais pas sur Caïn et sur son offrande. Caïn fut très irrité et il arbora un air sombre.

BCC ⁶ Caïn en fut très irrité et son visage fut abattu.

KJV ⁶ And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?

S21 ⁶ L'Eternel dit à Caïn: «Pourquoi es-tu irrité et pourquoi arbores-tu un air sombre?

BCC ⁷ Yahweh dit à Caïn : « Pourquoi es-tu irrité, et pourquoi ton visage est-il abattu ? Si tu fais bien, ne seras-tu pas agréé ? Et si tu ne fais pas bien, le péché ne se couche-t-il pas à ta porte ? Son désir se tourne vers toi ; mais toi, tu dois dominer sur lui. »

KJV ⁷ If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

S21 ⁷ Certainement, si tu agis bien, tu te relèveras. Si en revanche tu agis mal, le péché est couché à la porte et ses désirs se portent vers toi, mais c'est à toi de dominer sur lui.»

BCC ⁸ Caïn dit à Abel, son frère : « Allons aux champs. » Et, comme ils étaient dans les champs, Caïn s'éleva contre Abel, son frère, et le tua.

KJV ⁸ And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

S21 ⁸ Cependant, Caïn dit à son frère Abel: «Allons dans les champs» et, alors qu'ils étaient dans les champs, il se jeta sur lui et le tua.
