KJV ¹ And Adam knew Eve his wife; and she conceived, and bare Cain, and said, I have gotten a man from the LORD.

VULC ¹ Adam vero cognovit uxorem suam Hevam, quæ concepit et peperit Cain, dicens : Possedi hominem per Deum.

WLC ¹ וְהָ֣אָדָ֔ם יָדַ֖ע אֶת־ חַוָּ֣ה אִשְׁתּ֑וֹ וַתַּ֙הַר֙ וַתֵּ֣לֶד אֶת־ קַ֔יִן וַתֹּ֕אמֶר קָנִ֥יתִי אִ֖ישׁ אֶת־ יְהוָֽה׃

BCC ² Elle enfanta encore Abel, son frère. Abel fut pasteur de brebis, et Caïn était laboureur.

KJV ² And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.

VULC ² Rursumque peperit fratrem ejus Abel. Fuit autem Abel pastor ovium, et Cain agricola.

WLC ² וַתֹּ֣סֶף לָלֶ֔דֶת אֶת־ אָחִ֖יו אֶת־ הָ֑בֶל וַֽיְהִי־ הֶ֙בֶל֙ רֹ֣עֵה צֹ֔אן וְקַ֕יִן הָיָ֖ה עֹבֵ֥ד אֲדָמָֽה׃

BCC ³ Au bout de quelque temps, Caïn offrit des produits de la terre en oblation à Yahweh ;

KJV ³ And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.

VULC ³ Factum est autem post multos dies ut offerret Cain de fructibus terræ munera Domino.

WLC ³ וַֽיְהִ֖י מִקֵּ֣ץ יָמִ֑ים וַיָּבֵ֨א קַ֜יִן מִפְּרִ֧י הָֽאֲדָמָ֛ה מִנְחָ֖ה לַֽיהוָֽה׃

BCC ⁴ Abel, de son côté, offrit des premiers-nés de son troupeau et de leur graisse.

KJV ⁴ And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:

VULC ⁴ Abel quoque obtulit de primogenitis gregis sui, et de adipibus eorum : et respexit Dominus ad Abel, et ad munera ejus.

WLC ⁴ וְהֶ֨בֶל הֵבִ֥יא גַם־ ה֛וּא מִבְּכֹר֥וֹת צֹאנ֖וֹ וּמֵֽחֶלְבֵהֶ֑ן וַיִּ֣שַׁע יְהוָ֔ה אֶל־ הֶ֖בֶל וְאֶל־ מִנְחָתֽוֹ׃

BCC ⁵ Yahweh regarda Abel et son offrande ; mais il ne regarda pas Caïn et son offrande.

KJV ⁵ But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.

VULC ⁵ Ad Cain vero, et ad munera illius non respexit : iratusque est Cain vehementer, et concidit vultus ejus.

WLC ⁵ וְאֶל־ קַ֥יִן וְאֶל־ מִנְחָת֖וֹ לֹ֣א שָׁעָ֑ה וַיִּ֤חַר לְקַ֙יִן֙ מְאֹ֔ד וַֽיִּפְּל֖וּ פָּנָֽיו׃

BCC ⁶ Caïn en fut très irrité et son visage fut abattu.

KJV ⁶ And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?

VULC ⁶ Dixitque Dominus ad eum : Quare iratus es ? et cur concidit facies tua ?

WLC ⁶ וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה אֶל־ קָ֑יִן לָ֚מָּה חָ֣רָה לָ֔ךְ וְלָ֖מָּה נָפְל֥וּ פָנֶֽיךָ׃

BCC ⁷ Yahweh dit à Caïn : « Pourquoi es-tu irrité, et pourquoi ton visage est-il abattu ? Si tu fais bien, ne seras-tu pas agréé ? Et si tu ne fais pas bien, le péché ne se couche-t-il pas à ta porte ? Son désir se tourne vers toi ; mais toi, tu dois dominer sur lui. »

KJV ⁷ If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.

VULC ⁷ nonne si bene egeris, recipies : sin autem male, statim in foribus peccatum aderit ? sed sub te erit appetitus ejus, et tu dominaberis illius.

WLC ⁷ הֲל֤וֹא אִם־ תֵּיטִיב֙ שְׂאֵ֔ת וְאִם֙ לֹ֣א תֵיטִ֔יב לַפֶּ֖תַח חַטָּ֣את רֹבֵ֑ץ וְאֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ תְּשׁ֣וּקָת֔וֹ וְאַתָּ֖ה תִּמְשָׁל־ בּֽוֹ׃

BCC ⁸ Caïn dit à Abel, son frère : « Allons aux champs. » Et, comme ils étaient dans les champs, Caïn s'éleva contre Abel, son frère, et le tua.

KJV ⁸ And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

VULC ⁸ Dixitque Cain ad Abel fratrem suum : Egrediamur foras. Cumque essent in agro, consurrexit Cain adversus fratrem suum Abel, et interfecit eum.
