KJV ¹⁹ There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day:

S21 ¹⁹ »Il y avait un homme riche, qui s'habillait de pourpre et de fin lin et qui chaque jour menait joyeuse et brillante vie.

KJV ²⁰ And there was a certain beggar named Lazarus, which was laid at his gate, full of sores,

S21 ²⁰ Un pauvre du nom de Lazare était couché devant son portail, couvert d'ulcères.

KJV ²¹ And desiring to be fed with the crumbs which fell from the rich man's table: moreover the dogs came and licked his sores.

S21 ²¹ Il aurait bien voulu se rassasier des miettes qui tombaient de la table du riche, cependant même les chiens venaient lécher ses ulcères.

KJV ²² And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;

S21 ²² Le pauvre mourut et fut porté par les anges auprès d'Abraham. Le riche mourut aussi et fut enterré.

KJV ²³ And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.

S21 ²³ Dans le séjour des morts, en proie à une grande souffrance il leva les yeux et vit de loin Abraham, avec Lazare à ses côtés.

KJV ²⁴ And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.

S21 ²⁴ Il s'écria: ‘Père Abraham, aie pitié de moi et envoie Lazare pour qu'il trempe le bout de son doigt dans l'eau afin de me rafraîchir la langue, car je souffre cruellement dans cette flamme.'

KJV ²⁵ But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented.

S21 ²⁵ Abraham répondit: ‘Mon enfant, souviens-toi que tu as reçu tes biens pendant ta vie et que Lazare a connu les maux pendant la sienne; maintenant, il est consolé ici et toi, tu souffres.

KJV ²⁶ And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence.

S21 ²⁶ De plus, il y a un grand abîme entre nous et vous, afin que ceux qui voudraient passer d'ici vers vous, ou de chez vous vers nous, ne puissent pas le faire.'

KJV ²⁷ Then he said, I pray thee therefore, father, that thou wouldest send him to my father's house:

S21 ²⁷ Le riche dit: ‘Je te prie alors, père, d'envoyer Lazare chez mon père, car j'ai cinq frères.

KJV ²⁸ For I have five brethren; that he may testify unto them, lest they also come into this place of torment.

S21 ²⁸ C'est pour qu'il les avertisse, afin qu'ils n'aboutissent pas, eux aussi, dans ce lieu de souffrances.'

KJV ²⁹ Abraham saith unto him, They have Moses and the prophets; let them hear them.

S21 ²⁹ Abraham [lui] répondit: ‘Ils ont Moïse et les prophètes, qu'ils les écoutent.'

KJV ³⁰ And he said, Nay, father Abraham: but if one went unto them from the dead, they will repent.

S21 ³⁰ Le riche dit: ‘Non, père Abraham, mais si quelqu'un vient de chez les morts vers eux, ils changeront d'attitude.'

KJV ³¹ And he said unto him, If they hear not Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded, though one rose from the dead.

S21 ³¹ Abraham lui dit alors: ‘S'ils n'écoutent pas Moïse et les prophètes, ils ne se laisseront pas persuader, même si quelqu'un ressuscite.'»

KJV ¹ Then said he unto the disciples, It is impossible but that offences will come: but woe unto him, through whom they come!

S21 ¹ Jésus dit à ses disciples: «Il est inévitable qu'il y ait des pièges, mais malheur à celui qui en est responsable!

KJV ² It were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he cast into the sea, than that he should offend one of these little ones.

S21 ² Il vaudrait mieux pour lui qu'on attache à son cou une meule de moulin et qu'on le jette à la mer, plutôt qu'il ne fasse trébucher un seul de ces petits.

KJV ³ Take heed to yourselves: If thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him.

S21 ³ Faites bien attention à vous-mêmes. Si ton frère a péché [contre toi], reprends-le et, s'il reconnaît ses torts, pardonne-lui.

KJV ⁴ And if he trespass against thee seven times in a day, and seven times in a day turn again to thee, saying, I repent; thou shalt forgive him.

S21 ⁴ S'il a péché contre toi 7 fois dans une journée et que 7 fois [dans la journée] il revienne [vers toi] et dise: ‘J'ai eu tort', tu lui pardonneras.»

KJV ⁵ And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith.

S21 ⁵ Les apôtres dirent au Seigneur: «Augmente notre foi.»

KJV ⁶ And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.

S21 ⁶ Le Seigneur dit: «Si vous aviez de la foi comme une graine de moutarde, vous diriez à ce mûrier: ‘Déracine-toi et va te planter dans la mer', et il vous obéirait.

KJV ⁷ But which of you, having a servant plowing or feeding cattle, will say unto him by and by, when he is come from the field, Go and sit down to meat?

S21 ⁷ »Si l'un de vous a un esclave qui laboure ou garde les troupeaux, lui dira-t-il, à son retour des champs: ‘Viens tout de suite te mettre à table'?

KJV ⁸ And will not rather say unto him, Make ready wherewith I may sup, and gird thyself, and serve me, till I have eaten and drunken; and afterward thou shalt eat and drink?

S21 ⁸ Ne lui dira-t-il pas au contraire: ‘Prépare-moi à souper, ajuste ta tenue pour me servir jusqu'à ce que j'aie mangé et bu; après cela, toi, tu mangeras et tu boiras'?

KJV ⁹ Doth he thank that servant because he did the things that were commanded him? I trow not.

S21 ⁹ A-t-il de la reconnaissance envers cet esclave parce qu'il a fait ce qui lui était ordonné? [Je ne pense pas.]

KJV ¹⁰ So likewise ye, when ye shall have done all those things which are commanded you, say, We are unprofitable servants: we have done that which was our duty to do.

S21 ¹⁰ Vous de même, quand vous avez fait tout ce qui vous a été ordonné, dites: ‘Nous sommes des serviteurs inutiles, nous avons fait ce que nous devions faire.'»
