KJV ⁴ That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.

BCC ⁵ Aux jours d'Hérode, roi de Judée, il y avait un prêtre nommé Zacharie, de la classe d'Abia ; et sa femme, qui était des filles d'Aaron, se nommait Élisabeth.

KJV ⁵ THERE was in the days of Herod, the king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zacharias, of the course of Abia: and his wife was of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elisabeth.

BCC ⁶ Tous deux étaient justes devant Dieu, marchant dans tous les commandements et ordonnances du Seigneur d'une manière irréprochable.

KJV ⁶ And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

KJV ⁷ And they had no child, because that Elisabeth was barren, and they both were now well stricken in years.

KJV ⁸ And it came to pass, that while he executed the priest's office before God in the order of his course,

KJV ⁹ According to the custom of the priest's office, his lot was to burn incense when he went into the temple of the Lord.

BCC ¹⁰ Et toute la multitude du peuple était au dehors en prière, à l'heure de l'encens.

KJV ¹⁰ And the whole multitude of the people were praying without at the time of incense.

BCC ¹¹ Un ange du Seigneur lui apparut, debout à droite de l'autel de l'encens.

KJV ¹¹ And there appeared unto him an angel of the Lord standing on the right side of the altar of incense.

BCC ¹² Zacharie, en le voyant, fut troublé, et la crainte le saisit.

KJV ¹² And when Zacharias saw him, he was troubled, and fear fell upon him.

BCC ¹³ Mais l'ange lui dit : "ne crains point, Zacharie, car ta prière a été exaucée : ta femme Élisabeth t'enfantera un fils que tu appelleras Jean.

KJV ¹³ But the angel said unto him, Fear not, Zacharias: for thy prayer is heard; and thy wife Elisabeth shall bear thee a son, and thou shalt call his name John.

BCC ¹⁴ Et ce sera pour toi joie et allégresse, et beaucoup se réjouiront de sa naissance ;

KJV ¹⁴ And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.

BCC ¹⁵ car il sera grand devant le Seigneur, il ne boira ni vin ni rien qui enivre, et il sera rempli de l'Esprit-Saint dès le sein de sa mère ;

KJV ¹⁵ For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

BCC ¹⁶ il ramènera beaucoup des enfants d'Israël au Seigneur leur Dieu ;

KJV ¹⁶ And many of the children of Israel shall he turn to the Lord their God.

BCC ¹⁷ et lui-même marchera devant lui, avec l'esprit et la puissance d'Élie, pour ramener les coeurs des pères vers les enfants et les indociles à la sagesse des justes, afin de préparer au Seigneur un peuple bien disposé. "

KJV ¹⁷ And he shall go before him in the spirit and power of Elias, to turn the hearts of the fathers to the children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the just; to make ready a people prepared for the Lord.

BCC ¹⁸ Zacharie dit à l'ange : "à quoi le reconnaîtrai-je ? Car je suis vieux, et ma femme est avancée en âge."

KJV ¹⁸ And Zacharias said unto the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife well stricken in years.

BCC ¹⁹ L'ange lui répondit : "je suis Gabriel, qui me tiens devant Dieu ; j'ai été envoyé pour te parler et t'annoncer cette heureuse nouvelle.

KJV ¹⁹ And the angel answering said unto him, I am Gabriel, that stand in the presence of God; and am sent to speak unto thee, and to shew thee these glad tidings.

BCC ²⁰ Et voici : tu seras muet et ne pourras parler jusqu'au jour où ces choses arriveront, parce que tu n'as pas cru à mes paroles, qui s'accompliront en leur temps."

KJV ²⁰ And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season.

BCC ²¹ Cependant le peuple attendait Zacharie et on s'étonnait qu'il s'attardât dans le sanctuaire.

KJV ²¹ And the people waited for Zacharias, and marvelled that he tarried so long in the temple.

BCC ²² Or, étant sorti, il ne pouvait leur parler, et ils comprirent qu'il avait eu une vision dans le sanctuaire ; et lui leur faisait des signes, et il resta muet.

KJV ²² And when he came out, he could not speak unto them: and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple: for he beckoned unto them, and remained speechless.

BCC ²³ Quand les jours de son service furent accomplis, il s'en alla en sa maison.

KJV ²³ And it came to pass, that, as soon as the days of his ministration were accomplished, he departed to his own house.

BCC ²⁴ Après ces jours, Élisabeth, sa femme, conçut, et elle se tint cachée pendant cinq mois, disant :

KJV ²⁴ And after those days his wife Elisabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,

KJV ²⁵ Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me, to take away my reproach among men.

BCC ²⁶ Au sixième mois, l'ange Gabriel fut envoyé par Dieu dans une ville de Galilée appelée Nazareth,

KJV ²⁶ And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,

BCC ²⁷ vers une vierge qui était fiancée à un homme de la maison de David, nommé Joseph ; et le nom de la vierge était Marie.

KJV ²⁷ To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.

KJV ²⁸ And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.

KJV ²⁹ And when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and cast in her mind what manner of salutation this should be.

KJV ³⁰ And the angel said unto her, Fear not, Mary: for thou hast found favour with God.

BCC ³¹ Voici que vous concevrez, et vous enfanterez un fils, et vous lui donnerez le nom de Jésus.

KJV ³¹ And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.

BCC ³² Il sera grand et sera appelé fils du Très-Haut ; le Seigneur Dieu lui donnera le trône de David son père ;

KJV ³² He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:

BCC ³³ il règnera éternellement sur la maison de Jacob, et son règne n'aura point de fin."

KJV ³³ And he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end.

BCC ³⁴ Marie dit à l'ange : "comment cela sera-t-il, puisque je ne connais point l'homme ?"

KJV ³⁴ Then said Mary unto the angel, How shall this be, seeing I know not a man?

BCC ³⁵ L'ange lui répondit : "l'Esprit-Saint viendra sur vous, et la vertu du Très-Haut vous couvrira de son ombre. C'est pourquoi l'être saint qui naîtra sera appelé Fils de Dieu.

KJV ³⁵ And the angel answered and said unto her, The Holy Ghost shall come upon thee, and the power of the Highest shall overshadow thee: therefore also that holy thing which shall be born of thee shall be called the Son of God.

BCC ³⁶ Et voici qu'Élisabeth, votre parente, a conçu, elle aussi, un fils dans sa vieillesse, et ce mois-ci est le sixième pour elle que l'on appelait stérile,

KJV ³⁶ And, behold, thy cousin Elisabeth, she hath also conceived a son in her old age: and this is the sixth month with her, who was called barren.

BCC ³⁷ car rien ne sera impossible pour Dieu."

KJV ³⁷ For with God nothing shall be impossible.

BCC ³⁸ Marie dit alors : "voici la servante du Seigneur : qu'il me soit fait selon votre parole !" Et l'ange la quitta.

KJV ³⁸ And Mary said, Behold the handmaid of the Lord; be it unto me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.

BCC ³⁹ En ces jours-là Marie partit et s'en alla en hâte vers la montagne, en une ville de Juda.

KJV ³⁹ And Mary arose in those days, and went into the hill country with haste, into a city of Juda;

BCC ⁴⁰ Et elle entra dans la maison de Zacharie, et salua Élisabeth.

KJV ⁴⁰ And entered into the house of Zacharias, and saluted Elisabeth.

BCC ⁴¹ Or, quand Élisabeth entendit la salutation de Marie, l'enfant tressaillit dans son sein, et elle fut remplie du Saint-Esprit.

KJV ⁴¹ And it came to pass, that, when Elisabeth heard the salutation of Mary, the babe leaped in her womb; and Elisabeth was filled with the Holy Ghost:

BCC ⁴² Et elle s'écria à haute voix, disant : "vous êtes bénie entre les femmes, et le fruit de vos entrailles est béni.

KJV ⁴² And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.

BCC ⁴³ Et d'où m'est-il donné que la mère de mon Seigneur vienne à moi ?

KJV ⁴³ And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?

BCC ⁴⁴ Car votre voix, lorsque vous m'avez saluée, n'a pas plus tôt frappé mes oreilles, que l'enfant a tressailli de joie dans mon sein.

KJV ⁴⁴ For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.

BCC ⁴⁵ Heureuse celle qui a cru ! Car elles seront accomplies les choses qui lui ont été dites de la part du Seigneur ! "

KJV ⁴⁵ And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.

BCC ⁴⁶ Et Marie dit : "mon âme glorifie le Seigneur,

KJV ⁴⁶ And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,

BCC ⁴⁷ et mon esprit tressaille de joie en Dieu, mon Sauveur,

KJV ⁴⁷ And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

BCC ⁴⁸ parce qu'il a jeté les yeux sur la bassesse de sa servante. Voici, en effet, que désormais toutes les générations me diront bienheureuse,

KJV ⁴⁸ For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

BCC ⁴⁹ parce que le Puissant a fait pour moi de grandes choses. Et son nom est saint,

KJV ⁴⁹ For he that is mighty hath done to me great things; and holy is his name.

BCC ⁵⁰ et sa miséricorde d'âge en âge, est pour ceux qui le craignent.

KJV ⁵⁰ And his mercy is on them that fear him from generation to generation.

BCC ⁵¹ Il a fait oeuvre de force avec son bras ; il a dissipé ceux qui s'enorgueillissaient dans les pensées de leur coeur ;

KJV ⁵¹ He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.

BCC ⁵² il a renversé de leur trône les potentats, et il a élevé les humbles ;

KJV ⁵² He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree.

BCC ⁵³ il a rassasié de biens les affamés, et il a renvoyé les riches les mains vides.

KJV ⁵³ He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.

BCC ⁵⁴ Il a pris soin d'Israël son serviteur, se ressouvenant de sa miséricorde,

KJV ⁵⁴ He hath holpen his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy;

BCC ⁵⁵ ‒ ainsi qu'il l'avait promis à nos pères, ‒ en faveur d'Abraham et de sa race, pour toujours."

KJV ⁵⁵ As he spake to our fathers, to Abraham, and to his seed for ever.

BCC ⁵⁶ Et Marie demeura avec elle environ trois mois, et elle s'en retourna chez elle.

KJV ⁵⁶ And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.

BCC ⁵⁷ Cependant le temps s'accomplit où Élisabeth devait enfanter, et elle mit au monde un fils.

KJV ⁵⁷ Now Elisabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.

BCC ⁵⁸ Ses voisins et ses parents, ayant appris que le Seigneur avait manifesté sa miséricorde envers elle, se réjouissaient avec elle.

KJV ⁵⁸ And her neighbours and her cousins heard how the Lord had shewed great mercy upon her; and they rejoiced with her.

BCC ⁵⁹ Or, le huitième jour, ils vinrent pour circoncire l'enfant, et ils le nommaient Zacharie d'après le nom de son père.

KJV ⁵⁹ And it came to pass, that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they called him Zacharias, after the name of his father.

BCC ⁶⁰ Alors sa mère, prenant la parole : "non, dit-elle, mais il s'appellera Jean."

KJV ⁶⁰ And his mother answered and said, Not so; but he shall be called John.

BCC ⁶¹ Ils lui dirent : "il n'y a personne de votre parenté qui soit appelé de ce nom."

KJV ⁶¹ And they said unto her, There is none of thy kindred that is called by this name.

BCC ⁶² Et ils demandaient par signes à son père comment il voulait qu'on le nommât.

KJV ⁶² And they made signs to his father, how he would have him called.

BCC ⁶³ S'étant fait donner une tablette, il écrivit : "Jean est son nom ;" et tous furent dans l'étonnement.

KJV ⁶³ And he asked for a writing table, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they marvelled all.

BCC ⁶⁴ À l'instant sa bouche s'ouvrit et sa langue (se délia) ; et il parlait, bénissant Dieu.

KJV ⁶⁴ And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue loosed, and he spake, and praised God.

BCC ⁶⁵ La crainte s'empara de tous les habitants d'alentour, et partout dans la montagne de Judée on racontait toutes ces choses.

KJV ⁶⁵ And fear came on all that dwelt round about them: and all these sayings were noised abroad throughout all the hill country of Judaea.

BCC ⁶⁶ Tous ceux qui en entendirent parler les recueillirent dans leur coeur, et ils disaient : " Que sera donc cet enfant ? " Et en effet la main du Seigneur était avec lui.

KJV ⁶⁶ And all they that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What manner of child shall this be! And the hand of the Lord was with him.

BCC ⁶⁷ Et Zacharie, son père, fut rempli de l'Esprit-Saint, et il prophétisa, en disant :

KJV ⁶⁷ And his father Zacharias was filled with the Holy Ghost, and prophesied, saying,

KJV ⁶⁹ And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David;

BCC ⁷⁰ ‒ ainsi qu'il l'a promis par la bouche de ses saints prophètes, dès les temps anciens, ‒

KJV ⁷⁰ As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:

BCC ⁷¹ pour nous sauver de nos ennemis et de la main de tous ceux qui nous haïssent,

KJV ⁷¹ That we should be saved from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us;

BCC ⁷² afin d'exercer sa miséricorde envers nos pères et de se souvenir de son pacte saint,

KJV ⁷² To perform the mercy promised to our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant;

BCC ⁷³ du serment qu'il fit à Abraham, notre père, de nous accorder que,

KJV ⁷³ The oath which he sware to our father Abraham,

BCC ⁷⁴ sans crainte, affranchis de la main de nos ennemis, nous le servions,

KJV ⁷⁴ That he would grant unto us, that we being delivered out of the hand of our enemies might serve him without fear,

BCC ⁷⁵ avec sainteté et justice devant lui, tous les jours de notre (vie).

KJV ⁷⁵ In holiness and righteousness before him, all the days of our life.

BCC ⁷⁶ Quant à toi, petit enfant, tu seras appelé prophète du Très-Haut, car tu marcheras devant la face du Seigneur pour lui préparer les voies,

KJV ⁷⁶ And thou, child, shalt be called the prophet of the Highest: for thou shalt go before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways;

BCC ⁷⁷ afin d'apprendre à son peuple à reconnaître le salut dans la rémission de leurs péchés,

KJV ⁷⁷ To give knowledge of salvation unto his people by the remission of their sins,

BCC ⁷⁸ par l'effet de la tendre miséricorde de notre Dieu, par laquelle nous visitera une lumière d'en haut

KJV ⁷⁸ Through the tender mercy of our God; whereby the dayspring from on high hath visited us,

BCC ⁷⁹ pour éclairer ceux qui sont assis dans les ténèbres et l'ombre de la mort, pour diriger nos pas dans la voie de la paix. "

KJV ⁷⁹ To give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.

BCC ⁸⁰ Or l'enfant croissait et se fortifiait en esprit, et il demeura dans le désert jusqu'au jour de sa manifestation devant Israël.

KJV ⁸⁰ And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, and was in the deserts till the day of his shewing unto Israel.

BCC ¹ Or, en ces jours-là, fut publié un édit de César Auguste, pour le recensement de toute la terre.

KJV ¹ And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed.

BCC ² Ce premier recensement eut lieu pendant que Quirinius était gouverneur de Syrie.

KJV ² (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.)

BCC ³ Et tous allaient se faire recenser, chacun dans sa ville.

KJV ³ And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city.

BCC ⁴ Joseph aussi monta de Galilée, de la ville de Nazareth, en Judée, à la ville de David, qui s'appelle Bethléem, parce qu'il était de la maison et de la famille de David,

KJV ⁴ And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:)

BCC ⁵ pour se faire recenser avec Marie son épouse, qui était enceinte.

KJV ⁵ To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child.

BCC ⁶ Or, pendant qu'ils étaient là, le temps où elle devait enfanter s'accomplit,

KJV ⁶ And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered.

BCC ⁷ et elle mit au monde son fils premier-né, l'emmaillota et le coucha dans une crèche, parce qu'il n'y avait pas de place pour eux dans l'hôtellerie.

KJV ⁷ And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.

BCC ⁸ Il y avait dans la même région des bergers qui vivaient aux champs et qui veillaient la nuit sur leur troupeau.

KJV ⁸ And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.

BCC ⁹ Un ange du Seigneur parut auprès d'eux et la gloire du Seigneur les enveloppa de clarté, et ils furent saisis d'une grande crainte.

KJV ⁹ And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.

KJV ¹⁰ And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.

KJV ¹¹ For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.

BCC ¹² Et voici ce qui vous en sera le signe : vous trouverez un nouveau-né emmailloté et couché dans une crèche."

KJV ¹² And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

BCC ¹³ Tout à coup se joignit à l'ange une troupe de la milice céleste, louant Dieu et disant :

KJV ¹³ And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,

BCC ¹⁴ "Gloire, dans les hauteurs, à Dieu ! Et, sur terre, paix chez les hommes de bon vouloir !"

KJV ¹⁴ Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

BCC ¹⁵ Lorsque les anges, s'en allant au ciel, les eurent quittés, les bergers se dirent entre eux : "passons donc jusqu'à Bethléem, et voyons cet événement qui est arrivé, et que le Seigneur nous a fait connaître."

KJV ¹⁵ And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us.

BCC ¹⁹ Quant à Marie, elle conservait avec soin toutes ces choses, les méditant dans son coeur.

KJV ¹⁹ But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.

BCC ²⁰ Et les bergers s'en retournèrent, glorifiant et louant Dieu de tout ce qu'il avaient entendu et vu, selon ce qui leur avait été dit.

KJV ²⁰ And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them.

BCC ²¹ Les huit jours étant accomplis pour sa circoncision, il fut appelé du nom de Jésus, nom que l'ange avait donné avant qu'il eût été conçu dans le sein maternel.

KJV ²¹ And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
