Lc 7-11 (King James)

   ¹ Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum. ² And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die. ³ And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant. ⁴ And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this: ⁵ For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue. ⁶ Then Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends to him, saying unto him, Lord, trouble not thyself: for I am not worthy that thou shouldest enter under my roof: ⁷ Wherefore neither thought I myself worthy to come unto thee: but say in a word, and my servant shall be healed. ⁸ For I also am a man set under authority, having under me soldiers, and I say unto one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. ⁹ When Jesus heard these things, he marvelled at him, and turned him about, and said unto the people that followed him, I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel. ¹⁰ And they that were sent, returning to the house, found the servant whole that had been sick.
   ¹¹ And it came to pass the day after, that he went into a city called Nain; and many of his disciples went with him, and much people. ¹² Now when he came nigh to the gate of the city, behold, there was a dead man carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow: and much people of the city was with her. ¹³ And when the Lord saw her, he had compassion on her, and said unto her, Weep not. ¹⁴ And he came and touched the bier: and they that bare him stood still. And he said, Young man, I say unto thee, Arise. ¹⁵ And he that was dead sat up, and began to speak. And he delivered him to his mother. ¹⁶ And there came a fear on all: and they glorified God, saying, That a great prophet is risen up among us; and, That God hath visited his people. ¹⁷ And this rumour of him went forth throughout all Judaea, and throughout all the region round about. ¹⁸ And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.
   ¹⁹ And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? ²⁰ When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another? ²¹ And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight. ²² Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached. ²³ And blessed is he, whosoever shall not be offended in me. ²⁴ And when the messengers of John were departed, he began to speak unto the people concerning John, What went ye out into the wilderness for to see? A reed shaken with the wind? ²⁵ But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? Behold, they which are gorgeously apparelled, and live delicately, are in kings' courts. ²⁶ But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? Yea, I say unto you, and much more than a prophet. ²⁷ This is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. ²⁸ For I say unto you, Among those that are born of women there is not a greater prophet than John the Baptist: but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he. ²⁹ And all the people that heard him, and the publicans, justified God, being baptized with the baptism of John. ³⁰ But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves, being not baptized of him. ³¹ And the Lord said, Whereunto then shall I liken the men of this generation? and to what are they like? ³² They are like unto children sitting in the marketplace, and calling one to another, and saying, We have piped unto you, and ye have not danced; we have mourned to you, and ye have not wept. ³³ For John the Baptist came neither eating bread nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a devil. ³⁴ The Son of man is come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold a gluttonous man, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners! ³⁵ But wisdom is justified of all her children.
   ³⁶ And one of the Pharisees desired him that he would eat with him. And he went into the Pharisee's house, and sat down to meat. ³⁷ And, behold, a woman in the city, which was a sinner, when she knew that Jesus sat at meat in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster box of ointment, ³⁸ And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment. ³⁹ Now when the Pharisee which had bidden him saw it, he spake within himself, saying, This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner. ⁴⁰ And Jesus answering said unto him, Simon, I have somewhat to say unto thee. And he saith, Master, say on. ⁴¹ There was a certain creditor which had two debtors: the one owed five hundred pence, and the other fifty. ⁴² And when they had nothing to pay, he frankly forgave them both. Tell me therefore, which of them will love him most? ⁴³ Simon answered and said, I suppose that he, to whom he forgave most. And he said unto him, Thou hast rightly judged. ⁴⁴ And he turned to the woman, and said unto Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered into thine house, thou gavest me no water for my feet: but she hath washed my feet with tears, and wiped them with the hairs of her head. ⁴⁵ Thou gavest me no kiss: but this woman since the time I came in hath not ceased to kiss my feet. ⁴⁶ My head with oil thou didst not anoint: but this woman hath anointed my feet with ointment. ⁴⁷ Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little. ⁴⁸ And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven. ⁴⁹ And they that sat at meat with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that forgiveth sins also? ⁵⁰ And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.

Luc 8

   ¹ And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him, ² And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, ³ And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.
   ⁴ And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable: ⁵ A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. ⁶ And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. ⁷ And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. ⁸ And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And when he had said these things, he cried, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. ⁹ And his disciples asked him, saying, What might this parable be? ¹⁰ And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. ¹¹ Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. ¹² Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. ¹³ They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. ¹⁴ And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. ¹⁵ But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience. ¹⁶ No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light. ¹⁷ For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad. ¹⁸ Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have. ¹⁹ Then came to him his mother and his brethren, and could not come at him for the press. ²⁰ And it was told him by certain which said, Thy mother and thy brethren stand without, desiring to see thee. ²¹ And he answered and said unto them, My mother and my brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it.
   ²² Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. ²³ But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. ²⁴ And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. ²⁵ And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him. ²⁶ And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. ²⁷ And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. ²⁸ When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. ²⁹ (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.) ³⁰ And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. ³¹ And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. ³² And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. ³³ Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked. ³⁴ When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country. ³⁵ Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. ³⁶ They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed. ³⁷ Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again. ³⁸ Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, ³⁹ Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.
   ⁴⁰ And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him. ⁴¹ And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house: ⁴² For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him. ⁴³ And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, ⁴⁴ Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. ⁴⁵ And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? ⁴⁶ And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. ⁴⁷ And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. ⁴⁸ And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace. ⁴⁹ While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. ⁵⁰ But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole. ⁵¹ And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. ⁵² And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. ⁵³ And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. ⁵⁴ And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. ⁵⁵ And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat. ⁵⁶ And her parents were astonished: but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done.

Luc 9

   ¹ Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. ² And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. ³ And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. ⁴ And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart. ⁵ And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them. ⁶ And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where. ⁷ Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead; ⁸ And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again. ⁹ And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him.
   ¹⁰ And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. ¹¹ And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. ¹² And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place. ¹³ But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people. ¹⁴ For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company. ¹⁵ And they did so, and made them all sit down. ¹⁶ Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. ¹⁷ And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.
   ¹⁸ And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am? ¹⁹ They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again. ²⁰ He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God. ²¹ And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing; ²² Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day. ²³ And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. ²⁴ For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. ²⁵ For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? ²⁶ For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels. ²⁷ But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.
   ²⁸ And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. ²⁹ And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. ³⁰ And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: ³¹ Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. ³² But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. ³³ And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. ³⁴ While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. ³⁵ And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. ³⁶ And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.
   ³⁷ And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him. ³⁸ And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child. ³⁹ And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him. ⁴⁰ And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not. ⁴¹ And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither. ⁴² And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.
   ⁴³ And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples, ⁴⁴ Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. ⁴⁵ But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying. ⁴⁶ Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest. ⁴⁷ And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him, ⁴⁸ And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great. ⁴⁹ And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us. ⁵⁰ And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.
   ⁵¹ And it came to pass, when the time was come that he should be received up, he stedfastly set his face to go to Jerusalem, ⁵² And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. ⁵³ And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. ⁵⁴ And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? ⁵⁵ But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. ⁵⁶ For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village.
   ⁵⁷ And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. ⁵⁸ And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. ⁵⁹ And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. ⁶⁰ Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. ⁶¹ And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. ⁶² And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Luc 10

   ¹ After these things the LORD appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. ² Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. ³ Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. ⁴ Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. ⁵ And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. ⁶ And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. ⁷ And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. ⁸ And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: ⁹ And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. ¹⁰ But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say, ¹¹ Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. ¹² But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city. ¹³ Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. ¹⁴ But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you. ¹⁵ And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell. ¹⁶ He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
   ¹⁷ And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. ¹⁸ And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. ¹⁹ Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. ²⁰ Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. ²¹ In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. ²² All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him. ²³ And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see: ²⁴ For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
   ²⁵ And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? ²⁶ He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? ²⁷ And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. ²⁸ And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. ²⁹ But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? ³⁰ And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. ³¹ And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. ³² And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.

Du parfum versé sur Jésus

¹ Après avoir prononcé toutes ces paroles devant le peuple qui l'écoutait, Jésus entra dans Capernaüm. ² Un officier romain avait un esclave auquel il était très attaché et qui était malade, sur le point de mourir. ³ Il entendit parler de Jésus et il lui envoya quelques anciens des Juifs pour lui demander de venir guérir son esclave. ⁴ Ils arrivèrent vers Jésus et le supplièrent avec insistance, disant: «Il mérite que tu lui accordes cela, ⁵ car il aime notre nation et c'est lui qui a fait construire notre synagogue.»
⁶ Jésus partit avec eux. Il n'était plus très loin de la maison quand l'officier envoya des amis [vers lui] pour lui dire: «Seigneur, ne prends pas tant de peine, car je ne suis pas digne que tu entres sous mon toit. ⁷ C'est aussi pour cela que je n'ai pas jugé bon d'aller en personne vers toi. Mais dis un mot et mon serviteur sera guéri. ⁸ En effet, moi aussi je suis un homme soumis à des supérieurs et j'ai des soldats sous mes ordres; je dis à l'un: ‘Pars!' et il part, à un autre: ‘Viens!' et il vient, et à mon esclave: ‘Fais ceci!' et il le fait.»
⁹ Lorsque Jésus entendit ces paroles, il admira l'officier et, se tournant vers la foule qui le suivait, il dit: «Je vous le dis, même en Israël je n'ai pas trouvé une aussi grande foi.»
¹⁰ De retour à la maison, les personnes envoyées par l'officier trouvèrent l'esclave [qui avait été malade] en bonne santé.
¹¹ Le jour suivant, Jésus alla dans une ville appelée Naïn; ses disciples [en assez grand nombre] et une grande foule faisaient route avec lui. ¹² Lorsqu'il fut près de la porte de la ville, voici qu'on portait en terre un mort, fils unique de sa mère qui était veuve; beaucoup d'habitants de la ville l'accompagnaient. ¹³ En voyant la femme, le Seigneur fut rempli de compassion pour elle et lui dit: «Ne pleure pas!»
¹⁴ Il s'approcha et toucha le cercueil; ceux qui le portaient s'arrêtèrent. Il dit: «Jeune homme, je te le dis, lève-toi!» ¹⁵ Et le mort s'assit et se mit à parler. Jésus le rendit à sa mère.
¹⁶ Tous furent saisis de crainte et ils rendaient gloire à Dieu en disant: «Un grand prophète a surgi parmi nous» et: «Dieu a visité son peuple.» ¹⁷ Cette déclaration sur Jésus se propagea dans toute la Judée et dans toute la région.
¹⁸ Jean fut informé de tout cela par ses disciples. ¹⁹ Il en appela deux qu'il envoya vers Jésus pour lui dire: «Es-tu celui qui doit venir ou devons-nous en attendre un autre?» ²⁰ Arrivés vers Jésus, ils dirent: «Jean-Baptiste nous a envoyés vers toi pour te demander: ‘Es-tu celui qui doit venir ou devons-nous en attendre un autre?'»
²¹ A ce moment-là, Jésus guérit de nombreuses personnes de maladies, d'infirmités et d'esprits mauvais et il rendit la vue à bien des aveugles. ²² Puis il leur répondit: «Allez rapporter à Jean ce que vous avez vu et entendu: les aveugles voient, les boiteux marchent, les lépreux sont purifiés, les sourds entendent, les morts ressuscitent, la bonne nouvelle est annoncée aux pauvres. ²³ Heureux celui pour qui je ne représenterai pas un obstacle!»
²⁴ Lorsque les messagers de Jean furent partis, Jésus se mit à dire à la foule au sujet de Jean: «Qu'êtes-vous allés voir au désert? Un roseau agité par le vent? ²⁵ Mais qu'êtes-vous allés voir? Un homme habillé de tenues élégantes? Ceux qui portent des tenues somptueuses et qui vivent dans le luxe se trouvent dans les maisons des rois. ²⁶ Qu'êtes-vous donc allés voir? Un prophète? Oui, je vous le dis, et plus qu'un prophète. ²⁷ C'est celui à propos duquel il est écrit: Voici, j'envoie mon messager devant toi pour te préparer le chemin. 
²⁸ »Je vous le dis, parmi ceux qui sont nés de femmes, aucun [prophète] n'est plus grand que Jean[-Baptiste]. Cependant, le plus petit dans le royaume de Dieu est plus grand que lui. ²⁹ Tout le peuple qui l'a entendu et même les collecteurs d'impôts ont reconnu la justice de Dieu en se faisant baptiser du baptême de Jean; ³⁰ mais les pharisiens et les professeurs de la loi, en ne se faisant pas baptiser par lui, ont rejeté le plan de Dieu pour eux. ³¹ A qui donc comparerai-je les hommes de cette génération, à qui ressemblent-ils? ³² Ils ressemblent à des enfants assis sur la place publique, qui se parlent les uns aux autres et disent: ‘Nous vous avons joué de la flûte et vous n'avez pas dansé; nous avons entonné des chants funèbres et vous n'avez pas pleuré.' ³³ En effet, Jean-Baptiste est venu, il ne mange pas de pain et ne boit pas de vin, et vous dites: ‘Il a un démon.' ³⁴ Le Fils de l'homme est venu, il mange et il boit, et vous dites: ‘C'est un glouton et un buveur, un ami des collecteurs d'impôts et des pécheurs.' ³⁵ Mais la sagesse a été reconnue juste par tous ses enfants.»
³⁶ Un pharisien invita Jésus à manger avec lui. Jésus entra dans la maison du pharisien et se mit à table. ³⁷ Une femme pécheresse qui se trouvait dans la ville apprit qu'il était à table dans la maison du pharisien. Elle apporta un vase plein de parfum ³⁸ et se tint derrière, aux pieds de Jésus. Elle pleurait, et bientôt elle lui mouilla les pieds de ses larmes, puis les essuya avec ses cheveux, les embrassa et versa le parfum sur eux.
³⁹ Quand le pharisien qui avait invité Jésus vit cela, il se dit en lui-même: «Si cet homme était prophète, il saurait qui est celle qui le touche et de quel genre de femme il s'agit, il saurait que c'est une pécheresse.»
⁴⁰ Jésus prit la parole et lui dit: «Simon, j'ai quelque chose à te dire.»
«Maître, parle», répondit-il.
⁴¹ «Un créancier avait deux débiteurs: l'un d'eux lui devait 500 pièces d'argent, et l'autre 50. ⁴² Comme ils n'avaient pas de quoi le rembourser, il leur remit à tous deux leur dette. Lequel des deux l'aimera le plus?»
⁴³ Simon répondit: «Celui, je pense, auquel il a remis la plus grosse somme.»
Jésus lui dit: «Tu as bien jugé.»
⁴⁴ Puis il se tourna vers la femme et dit à Simon: «Tu vois cette femme? Je suis entré dans ta maison et tu ne m'as pas donné d'eau pour me laver les pieds; mais elle, elle les a mouillés de ses larmes et les a essuyés avec ses cheveux. ⁴⁵ Tu ne m'as pas donné de baiser; mais elle, depuis que je suis entré, elle n'a pas cessé de m'embrasser les pieds. ⁴⁶ Tu n'as pas versé d'huile sur ma tête; mais elle, elle a versé du parfum sur mes pieds. ⁴⁷ C'est pourquoi je te le dis, ses nombreux péchés ont été pardonnés, puisqu'elle a beaucoup aimé. Mais celui à qui l'on pardonne peu aime peu.»
⁴⁸ Et il dit à la femme: «Tes péchés sont pardonnés.»
⁴⁹ Les invités se mirent à dire en eux-mêmes: «Qui est cet homme qui pardonne même les péchés?»
⁵⁰ Mais Jésus dit à la femme: «Ta foi t'a sauvée. Pars dans la paix!»

Luc 8

¹ Ensuite, Jésus alla de ville en ville et de village en village. Il prêchait et annonçait la bonne nouvelle du royaume de Dieu. Les douze l'accompagnaient, ² avec quelques femmes qui avaient été guéries d'esprits mauvais et de maladies: Marie, dite de Magdala, dont étaient sortis sept démons, ³ Jeanne, femme de Chuza l'intendant d'Hérode, Susanne et beaucoup d'autres, qui le servaient en l'assistant de leurs biens.

Guérison d'une femme et résurrection d'une fillette

⁴ Une grande foule se rassembla et des gens vinrent vers lui de diverses villes. Alors il dit cette parabole: ⁵ «Un semeur sortit pour semer sa semence. Comme il semait, une partie de la semence tomba le long du chemin; elle fut piétinée et les oiseaux du ciel la mangèrent. ⁶ Une autre partie tomba sur un sol pierreux; quand elle eut poussé, elle sécha, parce qu'elle manquait d'humidité. ⁷ Une autre partie tomba au milieu des ronces; les ronces poussèrent avec elle et l'étouffèrent. ⁸ Une autre partie tomba dans la bonne terre; quand elle eut poussé, elle produisit du fruit au centuple.» Après cela, Jésus dit à haute voix: «Que celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre entende.»
⁹ Ses disciples lui demandèrent ce que signifiait cette parabole. ¹⁰ Il répondit: «Il vous a été donné, à vous, de connaître les mystères du royaume de Dieu; mais pour les autres, cela est dit en paraboles, afin qu'en voyant ils ne voient pas et qu'en entendant ils ne comprennent pas. ¹¹ Voici ce que signifie cette parabole: la semence, c'est la parole de Dieu. ¹² Ceux qui sont le long du chemin, ce sont ceux qui entendent; puis le diable vient et enlève la parole de leur cœur, de peur qu'ils ne croient et soient sauvés. ¹³ Ceux qui sont sur le sol pierreux, ce sont ceux qui, lorsqu'ils entendent la parole, l'acceptent avec joie; mais ils n'ont pas de racine, ils croient pour un temps et abandonnent au moment de l'épreuve. ¹⁴ Ce qui est tombé parmi les ronces, ce sont ceux qui ont entendu la parole, mais en cours de route ils la laissent étouffer par les préoccupations, les richesses et les plaisirs de la vie, et ils ne parviennent pas à maturité. ¹⁵ Ce qui est tombé dans la bonne terre, ce sont ceux qui ont entendu la parole avec un cœur honnête et bon, la retiennent et portent du fruit avec persévérance.
¹⁶ »Personne n'allume une lampe pour la couvrir d'un vase ou la mettre sous un lit, mais il la met sur un support, afin que ceux qui entrent voient la lumière. ¹⁷ Il n'y a en effet rien de caché qui ne doive être mis en lumière, rien de secret qui ne doive être connu et mis au jour. ¹⁸ Faites donc bien attention à la manière dont vous écoutez, car on donnera à celui qui a, mais à celui qui n'a pas on enlèvera même ce qu'il croit avoir.»
¹⁹ La mère et les frères de Jésus vinrent le trouver, mais ils ne pouvaient pas l'approcher à cause de la foule. ²⁰ On lui dit: «Ta mère et tes frères sont dehors et ils désirent te voir.»
²¹ Mais il répondit: «Ma mère et mes frères, ce sont ceux qui écoutent la parole de Dieu et qui la mettent en pratique.»
²² Un jour, Jésus monta dans une barque avec ses disciples. Il leur dit: «Passons sur l'autre rive du lac.» Et ils partirent. ²³ Pendant qu'ils naviguaient, Jésus s'endormit. Un tourbillon s'abattit sur le lac, la barque se remplissait d'eau et ils étaient en danger. ²⁴ Ils s'approchèrent et le réveillèrent en disant: «Maître, maître, nous allons mourir.»
Il se réveilla et menaça le vent et les flots. Ceux-ci s'apaisèrent et il y eut un calme plat. ²⁵ Puis il leur dit: «Où est votre foi?»
Saisis de frayeur et d'étonnement, ils se dirent les uns aux autres: «Qui est donc cet homme? Il donne des ordres même au vent et à l'eau, et ils lui obéissent!»
²⁶ Ils abordèrent dans le pays des Gadaréniens, qui est vis-à-vis de la Galilée. ²⁷ Lorsque Jésus fut descendu à terre, un homme de la ville vint à sa rencontre; il avait des démons depuis assez longtemps. Il ne portait pas de vêtement et n'habitait pas dans une maison, mais dans les tombeaux. ²⁸ Quand il vit Jésus, il poussa un cri, se jeta à ses pieds et dit d'une voix forte: «Que me veux-tu, Jésus, Fils du Dieu très-haut? Je t'en supplie, ne me tourmente pas.» ²⁹ Jésus ordonnait en effet à l'esprit impur de sortir de cet homme, car il s'était emparé de lui depuis longtemps. On attachait le démoniaque avec des chaînes et on lui mettait les fers aux pieds pour le garder, mais il rompait les liens et il était entraîné par le démon dans les endroits déserts.
³⁰ Jésus lui demanda: «Quel est ton nom?»
«Légion», répondit-il, car de nombreux démons étaient entrés en lui. ³¹ Ils suppliaient Jésus de ne pas leur ordonner d'aller dans l'abîme.
³² Il y avait là, sur la montagne, un grand troupeau de porcs en train de chercher à manger. Les démons supplièrent Jésus de leur permettre d'entrer dans ces porcs. Il le leur permit. ³³ Les démons sortirent de cet homme, entrèrent dans les porcs, et le troupeau se précipita du haut de la falaise dans le lac et se noya.
³⁴ Quand les gardiens du troupeau virent ce qui était arrivé, ils s'enfuirent et rapportèrent la nouvelle dans la ville et dans les campagnes. ³⁵ Les gens allèrent voir ce qui était arrivé. Ils vinrent vers Jésus et trouvèrent assis à ses pieds l'homme dont les démons étaient sortis; il était habillé et dans son bon sens. Ils furent saisis de frayeur. ³⁶ Ceux qui avaient été témoins de la scène leur racontèrent comment le démoniaque avait été guéri. ³⁷ Alors tous les habitants du pays des Gadaréniens demandèrent à Jésus de s'en aller de chez eux, car ils étaient saisis d'une grande crainte.
Jésus monta dans la barque pour repartir. ³⁸ L'homme dont les démons étaient sortis le priait de le laisser rester avec lui, mais Jésus le renvoya en disant: ³⁹ «Retourne dans ta maison et raconte tout ce que Dieu a fait pour toi.»
Il s'en alla et proclama dans toute la ville tout ce que Jésus avait fait pour lui.
⁴⁰ A son retour, Jésus fut accueilli par la foule, car tous l'attendaient. ⁴¹ Voici qu'arriva un homme du nom de Jaïrus; il était chef de la synagogue. Il se jeta à ses pieds et le supplia d'entrer dans sa maison, ⁴² parce qu'il avait une fille unique d'environ 12 ans qui était mourante. Pendant que Jésus s'y rendait, la foule le serrait de tous côtés.
⁴³ Or il y avait une femme qui souffrait d'hémorragies depuis 12 ans; elle avait dépensé tout son bien chez les médecins, mais aucun n'avait pu la guérir. ⁴⁴ Elle s'approcha par-derrière et toucha le bord du vêtement de Jésus. Son hémorragie s'arrêta immédiatement.
⁴⁵ Jésus dit: «Qui m'a touché?»
Comme tous s'en défendaient, Pierre et ceux qui étaient avec lui dirent: «Maître, la foule t'entoure et te presse, [et tu dis: ‘Qui m'a touché?']»
⁴⁶ Mais Jésus répondit: «Quelqu'un m'a touché, car j'ai senti qu'une force était sortie de moi.»
⁴⁷ Voyant qu'elle n'était pas passée inaperçue, la femme vint toute tremblante se jeter à ses pieds; elle déclara devant tout le peuple pourquoi elle l'avait touché et comment elle avait été immédiatement guérie.
⁴⁸ Alors il lui dit: «Ma fille, [prends courage,] ta foi t'a sauvée. Pars dans la paix!»
⁴⁹ Jésus parlait encore quand quelqu'un arriva de chez le chef de la synagogue et [lui] dit: «Ta fille est morte, ne dérange plus le maître.»
⁵⁰ Mais Jésus, qui avait entendu, dit au chef de la synagogue: «N'aie pas peur, crois seulement, et elle sera sauvée.»
⁵¹ Lorsqu'il fut arrivé à la maison, il ne laissa personne entrer [avec lui], sauf Pierre, Jean et Jacques, ainsi que le père et la mère de l'enfant. ⁵² Tous pleuraient et se lamentaient sur elle. Alors Jésus dit: «Ne pleurez pas, [car] elle n'est pas morte, mais elle dort.»
⁵³ Ils se moquaient de lui, sachant qu'elle était morte. ⁵⁴ Mais il [les fit tous sortir,] prit la jeune fille par la main et dit d'une voix forte: «Mon enfant, lève-toi.»
⁵⁵ Son esprit revint en elle et elle se leva immédiatement; Jésus ordonna de lui donner à manger. ⁵⁶ Les parents de la jeune fille furent remplis d'étonnement; il leur recommanda de ne dire à personne ce qui était arrivé.

Luc 9

Jésus en Samarie

¹ Jésus rassembla les douze [apôtres] et leur donna puissance et autorité pour chasser tous les démons et guérir les maladies. ² Il les envoya proclamer le royaume de Dieu et guérir les malades. ³ «Ne prenez rien pour le voyage, leur dit-il, ni bâtons, ni sac, ni pain, ni argent, et n'ayez pas deux chemises[chacun]. ⁴ Quelle que soit la maison où vous entrez, restez-y, et c'est de là que vous partirez. ⁵ Si l'on ne vous accueille pas, sortez de cette ville et secouez la poussière de vos pieds en témoignage contre eux.»
⁶ Ils partirent et allèrent de village en village; ils annonçaient la bonne nouvelle et faisaient partout des guérisons.
⁷ Hérode le tétrarque entendit parler de tout ce qui se passait; il ne savait que penser, car les uns disaient que Jean était ressuscité, ⁸ d'autres qu'Elie était apparu et d'autres qu'un des prophètes d'autrefois était ressuscité. ⁹ Mais Hérode disait: «J'ai fait décapiter Jean. Qui donc est cet homme à propos duquel j'entends dire de telles choses?» et il cherchait à le voir.
¹⁰ A leur retour, les apôtres racontèrent à Jésus tout ce qu'ils avaient fait. Il les prit avec lui et se retira à l'écart, du côté d'une ville appelée Bethsaïda. ¹¹ Mais les gens l'apprirent et le suivirent. Jésus les accueillit; il leur parlait du royaume de Dieu et il guérissait ceux qui en avaient besoin.
¹² Comme le jour commençait à baisser, les douze s'approchèrent et lui dirent: «Renvoie la foule, afin qu'elle aille dans les villages et dans les campagnes des environs pour se loger et pour trouver de quoi manger, car nous sommes ici dans un endroit désert.»
¹³ Mais Jésus leur dit: «Donnez-leur vous-mêmes à manger!»
Ils répondirent: «Nous n'avons pas plus de cinq pains et deux poissons, à moins d'aller nous-mêmes acheter des vivres pour tout ce peuple.» ¹⁴ En effet, il y avait environ 5000 hommes.
Jésus dit à ses disciples: «Faites-les asseoir par groupes de 50.»
¹⁵ C'est ce qu'ils firent, et tout le monde s'assit. ¹⁶ Jésus prit les cinq pains et les deux poissons, leva les yeux vers le ciel et les bénit. Puis il les rompit et les donna aux disciples afin qu'ils les distribuent à la foule. ¹⁷ Tous mangèrent et furent rassasiés, et l'on emporta douze paniers pleins des morceaux qui restaient.
¹⁸ Un jour, Jésus priait à l'écart et ses disciples étaient avec lui. Il leur posa cette question: «Qui suis-je, d'après les foules?»
¹⁹ Ils répondirent: «D'après les uns, Jean-Baptiste; d'après certains, Elie; d'après d'autres, un des prophètes d'autrefois qui est ressuscité.»
²⁰ «Et d'après vous, qui suis-je?» leur demanda-t-il.
Pierre répondit: «Le Messie de Dieu.»
²¹ Jésus leur recommanda sévèrement de ne le dire à personne. ²² Il ajouta qu'il fallait que le Fils de l'homme souffre beaucoup, qu'il soit rejeté par les anciens, par les chefs des prêtres et par les spécialistes de la loi, qu'il soit mis à mort et qu'il ressuscite le troisième jour.
²³ Puis il dit à tous: «Si quelqu'un veut être mon disciple, qu'il renonce à lui-même, qu'il se charge [chaque jour] de sa croix et qu'il me suive, ²⁴ car celui qui voudra sauver sa vie la perdra, mais celui qui la perdra à cause de moi la sauvera. ²⁵ Que sert-il à un homme de gagner le monde entier, s'il se perd ou se détruit lui-même? ²⁶ En effet, celui qui aura honte de moi et de mes paroles, le Fils de l'homme aura honte de lui, quand il viendra dans sa gloire et dans celle du Père et des saints anges. ²⁷ Je vous le dis en vérité, quelques-uns de ceux qui sont ici ne mourront pas avant d'avoir vu le royaume de Dieu.»
²⁸ Environ huit jours après avoir dit ces paroles, Jésus prit avec lui Pierre, Jean et Jacques, et il monta sur la montagne pour prier. ²⁹ Pendant qu'il priait, l'aspect de son visage changea et son vêtement devint d'une blancheur éclatante. ³⁰ Et voici que deux hommes s'entretenaient avec lui: c'étaient Moïse et Elie; ³¹ apparaissant dans la gloire, ils parlaient de son prochain départ qui allait s'accomplir à Jérusalem. ³² Pierre et ses compagnons étaient accablés de sommeil mais, restés éveillés, ils virent la gloire de Jésus et les deux hommes qui étaient avec lui.
³³ Au moment où ces hommes se séparaient de Jésus, Pierre lui dit: «Maître, il est bon que nous soyons ici. Faisons trois abris: un pour toi, un pour Moïse et un pour Elie.» Il ne savait pas ce qu'il disait. ³⁴ Il parlait encore quand une nuée vint les couvrir; les disciples furent saisis de frayeur en les voyant disparaître dans la nuée. ³⁵ Et de la nuée sortit une voix qui dit: «Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé: écoutez-le!»
³⁶ Quand la voix se fit entendre, Jésus se retrouva seul. Les disciples gardèrent le silence et, à cette époque-là, ils ne racontèrent rien à personne de ce qu'ils avaient vu.
³⁷ Le lendemain, lorsqu'ils furent descendus de la montagne, une grande foule vint à la rencontre de Jésus. ³⁸ Alors, du milieu de la foule, un homme s'écria: «Maître, je t'en prie, jette les regards sur mon fils, car c'est mon fils unique. ³⁹ Un esprit s'empare de lui et tout à coup il pousse des cris; l'esprit le secoue violemment, le fait écumer et le quitte à grand-peine, après l'avoir tout brisé. ⁴⁰ J'ai prié tes disciples de le chasser et ils n'ont pas pu.»
⁴¹ «Génération incrédule et perverse, répondit Jésus, jusqu'à quand serai-je avec vous et devrai-je vous supporter? Amène ton fils ici.»
⁴² Tandis que l'enfant s'approchait, le démon le jeta par terre et le secoua violemment, mais Jésus menaça l'esprit impur, guérit l'enfant et le rendit à son père. ⁴³ Tous furent frappés par la grandeur de Dieu.
Alors que chacun s'émerveillait de tout ce que faisait Jésus, il dit à ses disciples: ⁴⁴ «Quant à vous, écoutez bien ceci: le Fils de l'homme doit être livré entre les mains des hommes.» ⁴⁵ Cependant, ils ne comprenaient pas cette parole; elle était voilée pour eux afin qu'ils n'en saisissent pas le sens, et ils avaient peur de l'interroger à ce sujet.
⁴⁶ Ils eurent une discussion entre eux pour savoir lequel parmi eux était le plus grand.
⁴⁷ Jésus connaissait la pensée de leur cœur; il prit un petit enfant, le plaça près de lui ⁴⁸ et leur dit: «Celui qui accueille en mon nom ce petit enfant, c'est moi-même qu'il accueille, et celui qui m'accueille accueille celui qui m'a envoyé. En effet, celui qui est le plus petit parmi vous tous, c'est celui-là qui est grand.»
⁴⁹ Jean prit la parole et dit: «Maître, nous avons vu quelqu'un chasser des démons en ton nom et nous l'en avons empêché, parce qu'il ne nous suit pas.»
⁵⁰ «Ne l'en empêchez pas, lui répondit Jésus, car celui qui n'est pas contre nous est pour nous.»

De la Galilée à Jérusalem (9.51–21.38)

⁵¹ Lorsque approchèrent les jours où il devait être enlevé du monde, Jésus prit la décision de se rendre à Jérusalem. ⁵² Il envoya devant lui des messagers qui se mirent en route et entrèrent dans un village samaritain pour lui préparer un logement. ⁵³ Mais on refusa de l'accueillir parce qu'il se dirigeait vers Jérusalem.
⁵⁴ Voyant cela, ses disciples Jacques et Jean dirent: «Seigneur, veux-tu que nous ordonnions au feu de descendre du ciel et de les consumer [comme l'a fait Elie]?»
⁵⁵ Jésus se tourna vers eux et leur adressa des reproches [en disant: «Vous ne savez pas de quel esprit vous êtes animés. ⁵⁶ En effet, le Fils de l'homme n'est pas venu pour perdre les âmes des hommes, mais pour les sauver.»] Et ils allèrent dans un autre village.
⁵⁷ Pendant qu'ils étaient en chemin, un homme lui dit: «[Seigneur,] je te suivrai partout où tu iras.»
⁵⁸ Jésus lui répondit: «Les renards ont des tanières et les oiseaux du ciel ont des nids, mais le Fils de l'homme n'a pas un endroit où il puisse reposer sa tête.»
⁵⁹ Il dit à un autre: «Suis-moi.»
Il répondit: «Seigneur, permets-moi d'aller d'abord enterrer mon père.»
⁶⁰ Mais Jésus lui dit: «Laisse les morts enterrer leurs morts et toi, va annoncer le royaume de Dieu.»
⁶¹ Un autre dit: «Je te suivrai, Seigneur, mais permets-moi d'aller d'abord faire mes adieux à ceux de ma maison.»
⁶² Jésus lui répondit: «Celui qui met la main à la charrue et regarde en arrière n'est pas fait pour le royaume de Dieu.»

Luc 10

Marthe et Marie

¹ Après cela, le Seigneur désigna encore 70 autres disciples et les envoya devant lui deux par deux dans toutes les villes et dans tous les endroits où lui-même devait aller. ² Il leur dit: «La moisson est grande, mais il y a peu d'ouvriers. Priez donc le maître de la moisson d'envoyer des ouvriers dans sa moisson. ³ Allez-y! Je vous envoie comme des agneaux au milieu des loups. ⁴ Ne prenez ni bourse, ni sac, ni sandales et ne saluez personne en chemin. ⁵ Dans toute maison où vous entrerez, dites d'abord: ‘Que la paix soit sur cette maison!' ⁶ Et s'il se trouve là un homme de paix, votre paix reposera sur lui; sinon, elle reviendra sur vous. ⁷ Restez dans cette maison, mangez et buvez ce qu'on vous donnera, car *l'ouvrier mérite son salaire. N'allez pas de maison en maison. ⁸ Dans toute ville où vous entrerez et où l'on vous accueillera, mangez ce que l'on vous offrira, ⁹ guérissez les malades qui s'y trouveront et dites-leur: ‘Le royaume de Dieu s'est approché de vous.' ¹⁰ Mais dans toute ville où vous entrerez et où l'on ne vous accueillera pas, allez dans les rues et dites: ¹¹ ‘Nous secouons contre vous même la poussière de votre ville qui s'est attachée à nos pieds. Sachez cependant que le royaume de Dieu s'est approché [de vous].' ¹² Je vous dis que, ce jour-là, Sodome sera traitée moins sévèrement que cette ville-là.
¹³ »Malheur à toi, Chorazin, malheur à toi, Bethsaïda, car si les miracles accomplis au milieu de vous l'avaient été dans Tyr et dans Sidon, il y a longtemps que leurs habitants se seraient repentis, habillés d'un sac et assis dans la cendre. ¹⁴ C'est pourquoi, lors du jugement Tyr et Sidon seront traitées moins sévèrement que vous. ¹⁵ Et toi, Capernaüm, qui as été élevée jusqu'au ciel, tu seras abaissée jusqu'au séjour des morts. ¹⁶ Celui qui vous écoute m'écoute, celui qui vous rejette me rejette, et celui qui me rejette rejette celui qui m'a envoyé.»
¹⁷ Les 70 revinrent tout joyeux et dirent: «Seigneur, même les démons nous sont soumis en ton nom.»
¹⁸ Jésus leur dit: «Je regardais Satan tomber du ciel comme un éclair. ¹⁹ Voici, je vous ai donné le pouvoir de marcher sur les serpents et les scorpions et sur toute la puissance de l'ennemi, et rien ne pourra vous nuire. ²⁰ Cependant, ne vous réjouissez pas de ce que les esprits vous sont soumis, mais réjouissez-vous de ce que vos noms sont inscrits dans le ciel.»
²¹ A ce moment même, Jésus fut rempli de joie par le Saint-Esprit et il dit: «Je te suis reconnaissant, Père, Seigneur du ciel et de la terre, de ce que tu as caché ces choses aux sages et aux intelligents et les as révélées aux enfants. Oui, Père, je te suis reconnaissant car c'est ce que tu as voulu. ²² Mon Père m'a tout donné et personne ne sait qui est le Fils, si ce n'est le Père, ni qui est le Père, si ce n'est le Fils et celui à qui le Fils veut le révéler.»
²³ Puis il se tourna vers les disciples et leur dit en privé: «Heureux les yeux qui voient ce que vous voyez! ²⁴ En effet, je vous le dis, beaucoup de prophètes et de rois ont désiré voir ce que vous voyez et ne l'ont pas vu, entendre ce que vous entendez et ne l'ont pas entendu.»
²⁵ Un professeur de la loi se leva et dit à Jésus pour le mettre à l'épreuve: «Maître, que dois-je faire pour hériter de la vie éternelle?»
²⁶ Jésus lui dit: «Qu'est-il écrit dans la loi? Qu'y lis-tu?»
²⁷ Il répondit: «Tu aimeras le Seigneur, ton Dieu, de tout ton cœur, de toute ton âme, de toute ta force et de toute ta pensée, et ton prochain comme toi-même.»
²⁸ «Tu as bien répondu, lui dit Jésus. Fais cela et tu vivras.»
²⁹ Mais lui, voulant se justifier, dit à Jésus: «Et qui est mon prochain?»
³⁰ Jésus reprit la parole et dit: «Un homme descendait de Jérusalem à Jéricho. Il tomba entre les mains de brigands qui le dépouillèrent, le rouèrent de coups et s'en allèrent en le laissant à moitié mort. ³¹ Un prêtre qui, par hasard, descendait par le même chemin vit cet homme et passa à distance. ³² De même aussi un Lévite arriva à cet endroit; il le vit et passa à distance.
