Lc 7-11 (Annotée Neuchâtel)

   ¹ Après qu'il eut achevé tous ses discours devant le peuple qui l'écoutait, il entra dans Capernaüm. ² Or, un centenier avait un serviteur malade qui s'en allait mourir, et qui lui était cher. ³ Et ayant entendu parler de Jésus, il envoya vers lui des anciens des Juifs, pour le prier de venir et de sauver son serviteur. ⁴ Eux donc étant venus vers Jésus, le priaient instamment, disant : Il est digne que tu lui accordes cela ; ⁵ car il aime notre nation, et c'est lui qui nous a bâti la synagogue. ⁶ Et Jésus s'en allait avec eux ; mais comme déjà il n'était plus éloigné de la maison, le centenier envoya vers lui des amis pour lui dire : Seigneur, ne te fatigue point, car je ne suis pas digne que tu entres sous mon toit ; ⁷ c'est pourquoi je ne me suis pas non plus jugé digne d'aller moi-même vers toi ; mais dis une parole, et mon serviteur sera guéri. ⁸ Car moi aussi, je suis un homme placé sous autorité, ayant sous moi des soldats, et je dis à celui-ci : Va, et il va ; et à un autre : Viens, et il vient ; et à mon serviteur : Fais ceci, et il le fait. ⁹ Or Jésus ayant entendu ces paroles, l'admira ; et se tournant, il dit à la foule qui le suivait : Je vous dis que même en Israël je n'ai pas trouvé une si grande foi. ¹⁰ Et ceux qui avaient été envoyés, étant retournés à la maison, trouvèrent le serviteur en bonne santé.
   ¹¹ Et il arriva, le jour suivant, que Jésus allait à une ville appelée Naïn, et ses disciples fort nombreux et une grande foule allaient avec lui. ¹² Or, comme il approchait de la porte de la ville, voici, on portait dehors un mort, fils unique de sa mère, qui était veuve. Et une foule considérable de la ville était avec elle. ¹³ Et en la voyant, le Seigneur fut ému de compassion envers elle, et il lui dit : Ne pleure point. ¹⁴ Et s'étant approché, il toucha le cercueil, et les porteurs s'arrêtèrent ; et il dit : Jeune homme, je te le dis, lève-toi ! ¹⁵ Et le mort se leva sur son séant, et se mit à parler. Et il le rendit à sa mère. ¹⁶ Or la crainte les saisit tous, et ils glorifiaient Dieu, en disant : Un grand prophète s'est élevé parmi nous, et : Dieu a visité son peuple. ¹⁷ Et cette parole se répandit à son sujet par toute la Judée et dans toute la contrée d'alentour.
   ¹⁸ Et les disciples de Jean lui firent rapport sur toutes ces choses. ¹⁹ Et Jean, ayant appelé à lui deux de ses disciples, les envoya vers Jésus, pour lui dire : Es-tu celui qui doit venir, ou devons-nous en attendre un autre ? ²⁰ Et ces hommes, étant venus vers Jésus, dirent : Jean-Baptiste nous a envoyés vers toi, pour te dire : Es-tu celui qui doit venir ou devons-nous en attendre un autre ? ²¹ A cette heure même, il guérit plusieurs personnes de maladies, de maux, et de méchants esprits, et il rendit la vue à plusieurs aveugles. ²² Et répondant, il leur dit : Allez et rapportez à Jean ce que vous avez vu et entendu : les aveugles recouvrent la vue, les boiteux marchent, les lépreux sont purifiés, les sourds entendent, les morts ressuscitent, l'Evangile est annoncé aux pauvres. ²³ Et heureux est celui pour qui je ne serai pas une occasion de chute !
   ²⁴ Mais quand les envoyés de Jean furent partis, il se mit à dire à la foule, au sujet de Jean : Qu'êtes-vous allés voir au désert ? Un roseau agité par le vent ? ²⁵ Mais qu'êtes-vous allés voir ? Un homme revêtu d'habits délicats ? Voici, ceux qui sont vêtus d'un vêtement magnifique et qui vivent dans les délices sont dans les palais. ²⁶ Mais qu'êtes-vous allés voir ? Un prophète ? Oui, vous dis-je, et plus qu'un prophète. ²⁷ C'est ici celui de qui il est écrit : Voici, j'envoie devant ta face mon messager, qui préparera ton chemin devant toi. ²⁸ Car je vous dis qu'entre ceux qui sont nés de femme il n'y a nul prophète plus grand que Jean ; cependant celui qui est plus petit dans le royaume de Dieu est plus grand que lui. ²⁹ Et tout le peuple, l'ayant écouté, et les péagers, ont justifié Dieu, en se faisant baptiser du baptême de Jean. ³⁰ Mais les pharisiens et les légistes ont anéanti le dessein de Dieu à leur égard en ne se faisant pas baptiser par lui.
   ³¹ A qui donc comparerai-je les hommes de cette génération, et à qui ressemblent-ils ? ³² Ils ressemblent à des enfants qui sont assis dans une place publique et qui crient les uns aux autres et disent : Nous vous avons joué de la flûte, et vous n'avez point dansé ; nous vous avons chanté des complaintes, et vous n'avez point pleuré. ³³ Car Jean-Baptiste est venu ne mangeant point de pain, et ne buvant point de vin ; et vous dites : Il a un démon. ³⁴ Le fils de l'homme est venu mangeant et buvant, et vous dites : Voici un mangeur et un buveur, un ami des péagers et des pécheurs. ³⁵ Mais la sagesse a été justifiée de la part de tous ses enfants.
   ³⁶ Or, l'un des pharisiens l'invitait à manger avec lui ; et étant entré dans la maison du pharisien, il se mit à table. ³⁷ Et voici, une femme de la ville, qui était pécheresse, ayant appris qu'il était à table dans la maison du pharisien, apporta un vase d'albâtre plein de parfum ; ³⁸ et se tenant derrière lui, à ses pieds, en pleurant, elle se mit à mouiller ses pieds de ses larmes ; et elle les essuyait avec les cheveux de sa tête ; et elle baisait ses pieds et les oignait de parfum. ³⁹ Mais le pharisien qui l'avait invité, voyant cela, se dit en lui-même : Si celui-ci était prophète, il connaîtrait qui et de quelle espèce est cette femme qui le touche, il connaîtrait que c'est une pécheresse. ⁴⁰ Et Jésus répondant lui dit : Simon, j'ai quelque chose à te dire. Maître, parle, dit-il. ⁴¹ Un créancier avait deux débiteurs ; l'un devait cinq cents deniers, l'autre cinquante. ⁴² Comme ils n'avaient pas de quoi payer, il leur remit à tous deux la dette. Lequel donc des deux l'aimera le plus ? ⁴³ Simon répondant dit : J'estime que c'est celui à qui il a remis le plus. Jésus lui dit : Tu as bien jugé. ⁴⁴ Et s'étant tourné vers la femme, il dit à Simon : Vois-tu cette femme ? Je suis entré dans ta maison ; tu ne m'as pas donné d'eau pour les pieds ; mais elle a arrosé mes pieds de larmes et les a essuyés avec ses cheveux. ⁴⁵ Tu ne m'as pas donné de baisers ; mais elle, depuis que je suis entré, elle n'a cessé de me baiser les pieds. ⁴⁶ Tu n'as pas oint ma tête d'huile, mais elle a oint mes pieds de parfum. ⁴⁷ C'est pourquoi, je te le dis, ses péchés qui sont en grand nombre, lui sont pardonnés, car elle a beaucoup aimé, mais celui à qui il est peu pardonné, aime peu. ⁴⁸ Et il dit à la femme : Tes péchés te sont pardonnés. ⁴⁹ Et ceux, qui étaient à table avec lui se mirent à dire en eux-mêmes : Qui est celui-ci qui même pardonne les péchés ? ⁵⁰ Mais il dit à la femme : Ta foi t'a sauvée ; va en paix.

Luc 8

   ¹ Et il arriva ensuite qu'il allait de ville en ville, et de village en village, prêchant et annonçant la bonne nouvelle du royaume de Dieu ; et les douze étaient avec lui, ² ainsi que quelques femmes, qui avaient été guéries d'esprits malins et d'infirmités : Marie surnommée Madeleine, de laquelle étaient sortis sept démons, ³ et Jeanne, femme de Chuza, intendant d'Hérode, et Suzanne, et plusieurs autres, qui les assistaient de leurs biens.
   ⁴ Or, comme une grande foule s'assemblait, et que de chaque ville des gens venaient à lui, il dit en parabole : ⁵ Le semeur sortit pour semer sa semence ; et comme il semait, une partie tomba le long du chemin et fut foulée, et les oiseaux du ciel la mangèrent. ⁶ Et une autre partie tomba sur le roc, et ayant poussé, elle sécha, parce qu'elle n'avait point d'humidité. ⁷ Et une autre tomba au milieu des épines, et les épines ayant poussé avec elle l'étouffèrent. ⁸ Et une autre tomba dans la bonne terre ; et ayant poussé, elle produisit du fruit au centuple. En disant ces choses, il s'écriait : Que celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre, entende !
   ⁹ Et ses disciples lui demandaient ce que signifiait cette parabole. ¹⁰ Et il dit : A vous il est donné de connaître les mystères du royaume de Dieu ; mais aux autres, il leur en est parlé en paraboles ; afin qu'en voyant, ils ne voient pas, et qu'en entendant ils ne comprennent pas. ¹¹ Or, voici ce que signifie cette parabole : La semence, c'est la parole de Dieu. ¹² Et ceux qui sont le long du chemin, ce sont ceux qui entendent ; ensuite le diable vient et enlève la parole de leur coeur, de peur qu'en croyant ils ne soient sauvés. ¹³ Et ceux qui sont sur le roc, ce sont ceux qui, ayant entendu la parole, la reçoivent avec joie ; et pourtant ils n'ont point de racine : ils ne croient que pour un temps, et au moment de la tentation, ils se retirent. ¹⁴ Et ce qui est tombé parmi les épines, ce sont ceux qui, ayant entendu, et s'en allant, sont étouffés par les inquiétudes et par les richesses et par les plaisirs de la vie, et ils ne portent point de fruit qui vienne à maturité. ¹⁵ Mais ce qui est dans la bonne terre ce sont ceux qui, ayant entendu la parole, la retiennent dans un coeur honnête et bon, et portent du fruit avec persévérance. ¹⁶ Or, personne, après avoir allumé une lampe, ne la couvre d'un vase, ni ne la met sous un lit ; mais il la met sur un pied de lampe, afin que ceux qui entrent, voient la lumière. ¹⁷ Car il n'y a rien de secret qui ne doive être manifesté, ni rien de caché qui ne doive être connu et venir en évidence. ¹⁸ Prenez donc garde de quelle manière vous écoutez ; car quiconque a, il lui sera donné ; et quiconque n'a pas, même ce qu'il croit avoir lui sera ôté. ¹⁹ Or sa mère et ses frères vinrent vers lui, et ils ne pouvaient l'aborder à cause de la foule. ²⁰ Et on le lui annonça : Ta mère et tes frères sont là dehors, désirant te voir. ²¹ Mais lui, répondant, leur dit : Ma mère et mes frères, ce sont ceux-là qui écoutent la parole de Dieu et qui la pratiquent.
   ²² Or il arriva l'un de ces jours, qu'il entra dans une barque avec ses disciples, et il leur dit : Passons à l'autre bord du lac ; et ils prirent le large. ²³ Et comme ils naviguaient, il s'endormit. Et un tourbillon de vent fondit sur le lac, et la barque s'emplissait, et ils étaient en péril. ²⁴ Et s'approchant, ils le réveillèrent, disant : Maître, Maître, nous périssons ! Mais lui, s'étant réveillé, réprimanda le vent et les flots ; et ils s'apaisèrent, et il se fit un grand calme. ²⁵ Et il leur dit : Où est votre foi. Et saisis de crainte, ils s'étonnèrent, se disant les uns aux autres : Qui est donc celui-ci, qu'il commande aux vents même et à l'eau, et ils lui obéissent ?
   ²⁶ Et ils abordèrent au pays des Gadaréniens, qui est vis-à-vis de la Galilée. ²⁷ Et quand il fut descendu à terre, il vint au-devant de lui un homme de la ville, qui avait des démons depuis longtemps, et il ne revêtait point d'habit et ne demeurait point dans une maison, mais dans les sépulcres. ²⁸ Et voyant Jésus, il poussa un cri, se jeta à ses pieds et dit d'une voix forte : Qu'y a-t-il entre moi et toi, Jésus, Fils du Dieu Très-Haut ? Je te prie, ne me tourmente point ! ²⁹ En effet Jésus commandait à l'esprit impur de sortir de cet homme. Car il s'était saisi de lui depuis longtemps ; et il était gardé, lié de chaînes et les fers aux pieds, et il rompait ses liens et était emporté par le démon dans les déserts. ³⁰ Et Jésus l'interrogea, disant : Quel est ton nom ? Et il dit : Légion, parce que plusieurs démons étaient entrés en lui. ³¹ Et ils le priaient de ne pas leur commander de s'en aller dans l'abîme. ³² Or il y avait là un troupeau de nombreux pourceaux, qui paissaient sur la montagne ; et ils le prièrent qu'il leur permît d'entrer dans ces pourceaux. Et il le leur permit. ³³ Et les démons étant sortis de cet homme, entrèrent dans les pourceaux, et le troupeau s'élança avec impétuosité en bas la pente dans le lac, et fut noyé. ³⁴ Et ceux qui le paissaient, voyant ce qui était arrivé, s'enfuirent et répandirent la nouvelle dans la ville et dans les campagnes. ³⁵ Et les gens sortirent pour voir ce qui s'était passé ; et ils vinrent vers Jésus et trouvèrent l'homme de qui les démons étaient sortis, assis aux pieds de Jésus, vêtu et dans son bon sens ; et ils furent saisis de frayeur. ³⁶ Or ceux qui avaient vu la chose, leur racontèrent comment le démoniaque avait été guéri. ³⁷ Et toute la multitude de la contrée des Gadaréniens le pria de s'éloigner d'eux ; car ils étaient saisis d'une grande crainte. Et lui, étant monté dans la barque, s'en retourna. ³⁸ Et l'homme duquel les démons étaient sortis, le priait de lui permettre d'être avec lui ; mais Jésus le renvoya, en disant : ³⁹ Retourne en ta maison et raconte quelles grandes choses Dieu t'a faites. Et il s'en alla, publiant par toute la ville quelles grandes choses Jésus lui avait faites.
   ⁴⁰ Or il arriva, comme Jésus revenait, que la foule l'accueillit ; car tous l'attendaient. ⁴¹ Et voici, il vint un homme dont le nom était Jaïrus, et qui était chef de la synagogue. Et s'étant jeté aux pieds de Jésus, il le priait d'entrer dans sa maison ; ⁴² parce qu'il avait une fille unique, âgée d'environ douze ans, et elle se mourait. Et comme Jésus y allait, les foules le serraient. ⁴³ Et une femme qui avait une perte de sang depuis douze ans, et qui, ayant dépensé tout son bien en médecins, n'avait pu être guérie par aucun, ⁴⁴ s'étant approchée par derrière, toucha le bord de son vêtement ; et à l'instant sa perte de sang s'arrêta. ⁴⁵ Et Jésus dit : Qui est-ce qui m'a touché ? Mais comme tous le niaient, Pierre et ceux qui étaient avec lui, dirent : Maître, les foules t'entourent et te pressent. ⁴⁶ Mais Jésus dit : Quelqu'un m'a touché ; car j'ai connu qu'une puissance est sortie de moi. ⁴⁷ Et la femme, voyant qu'elle n'était point restée cachée, vint toute tremblante, et se jetant à ses pieds, déclara devant tout le peuple pour quelle cause elle l'avait touché, et comment elle avait été guérie à l'instant. ⁴⁸ Mais il lui dit : Ma fille, ta foi t'a sauvée ; va en paix. ⁴⁹ Comme il parlait encore, arrive quelqu'un de chez le chef de la synagogue, disant : Ta fille est morte ; ne fatigue pas davantage le Maître. ⁵⁰ Mais Jésus ayant entendu cela, lui répondit : Ne crains point ; crois seulement, et elle sera sauvée. ⁵¹ Et étant arrivé dans la maison, il ne laissa entrer personne, sinon Pierre et Jean et Jacques, et le père de l'enfant et la mère. ⁵² Et tous pleuraient, et se lamentaient sur elle ; mais il dit : Ne pleurez point ; elle n'est pas morte, mais elle dort. ⁵³ Et ils se riaient de lui, sachant qu'elle était morte. ⁵⁴ Mais lui, ayant pris sa main, dit à haute voix : Enfant, lève-toi ! ⁵⁵ Et son esprit revint, et elle se leva à l'instant. Et il commanda de lui donner à manger. ⁵⁶ Et ses parents furent stupéfaits, mais il leur ordonna de ne dire à personne ce qui était arrivé.

Luc 9

   ¹ Or, ayant assemblé les douze, il leur donna puissance et autorité sur tous les démons, et le pouvoir de guérir les maladies. ² Et il les envoya prêcher le royaume de Dieu, et guérir. ³ Et il leur dit : Ne prenez rien pour le chemin, ni bâton, ni sac, ni pain, ni argent, et n'ayez point chacun deux tuniques. ⁴ Et en quelque maison que vous entriez, demeurez-y, et de là vous partirez. ⁵ Et quant à ceux qui ne vous recevront point, en sortant de cette ville-là, secouez même la poussière de vos pieds, en témoignage contre eux. ⁶ Et étant partis, ils allaient de bourgade en bourgade, annonçant l'Evangile et guérissant en tout lieu.
   ⁷ Or Hérode le tétrarque entendit parler de tout ce qui se passait, et il était en perplexité, parce que quelques-uns disaient : Jean est ressuscité des morts ; ⁸ et quelques-uns : Elie est apparu ; et d'autres : Quelqu'un des anciens prophètes est ressuscité. ⁹ Mais Hérode disait : Moi j'ai fait décapiter Jean ; qui est donc celui-ci, dont moi j'entends dire de telles choses ? Et il cherchait à le voir.
   ¹⁰ Et les apôtres, étant revenus, lui racontèrent tout ce qu'ils avaient fait. Et les prenant avec lui, il se retira à l'écart, dans une ville appelée Bethsaïda. ¹¹ Mais les foules l'ayant appris, le suivirent. Et les ayant accueillies, il leur parlait du royaume de Dieu, et il guérissait ceux qui avaient besoin de guérison. ¹² Or le jour commença à baisser ; et les douze s'approchant lui dirent : Renvoie la foule, afin qu'ils aillent dans les bourgs et dans les campagnes d'alentour, pour se loger et trouver des vivres ; car nous sommes ici dans un lieu désert. ¹³ Et il leur dit : Donnez-leur vous-mêmes à manger. Mais ils dirent : Nous n'avons pas plus de cinq pains et de deux poissons ; à moins que nous n'allions, nous, acheter des vivres pour tout ce peuple ! ¹⁴ Car ils étaient environ cinq mille hommes. Et il dit à ses disciples : Faites-les asseoir par rangées de cinquante. ¹⁵ Et ils firent ainsi, et ils les firent tous asseoir. ¹⁶ Et, prenant les cinq pains et les deux poissons, levant les yeux au ciel, il les bénit et les rompit, et il les donnait aux disciples, pour les présenter à la foule. ¹⁷ Et ils mangèrent et furent tous rassasiés ; et on emporta, des morceaux qui leur restèrent, douze paniers.
   ¹⁸ Et il arriva, comme il priait à l'écart, que les disciples étaient réunis avec lui ; et il les interrogea, disant : Qui disent les foules que je suis ? ¹⁹ Eux, répondant, dirent : Jean-Baptiste ; et d'autres, Elie ; et d'autres, qu'un prophète d'entre les anciens est ressuscité. ²⁰ Et il leur dit : Mais vous, qui dites-vous que je suis ? Et Pierre répondant, dit : Le Christ de Dieu. ²¹ Mais lui, parlant avec sévérité, leur défendit de dire cela à personne, ²² disant : Il faut que le fils de l'homme souffre beaucoup, et qu'il soit rejeté par les anciens et les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes, et qu'il soit mis à mort, et qu'il ressuscite le troisième jour. ²³ Et il disait à tous : Si quelqu'un veut venir après moi, qu'il renonce à soi-même, et qu'il prenne sa croix chaque jour, et qu'il me suive. ²⁴ Car quiconque voudra sauver sa vie, la perdra ; mais quiconque perdra sa vie à cause de moi, celui-là la sauvera. ²⁵ Car que sert-il à un homme de gagner le monde entier, et de se perdre ou de se ruiner soi-même ? ²⁶ Car celui qui aura eu honte de moi et de mes paroles, le fils de l'homme aura honte de lui, quand il viendra dans sa gloire, et dans celle du Père et des saints anges. ²⁷ Or je vous le dis en vérité, il y en a quelques-uns de ceux qui sont ici présents, qui ne goûteront point la mort, qu'ils n'aient vu le règne de Dieu.
   ²⁸ Or il arriva, environ huit jours après ces discours, que, prenant avec lui Pierre et Jean et Jacques, il monta sur la montagne pour prier. ²⁹ Et il arriva, pendant qu'il priait, que l'aspect de son visage fut autre, et son vêtement blanc, resplendissant. ³⁰ Et voici, deux hommes s'entretenaient avec lui ; lesquels étaient Moïse et Elie, ³¹ qui, apparaissant en gloire, parlaient de son issue qu'il devait accomplir à Jérusalem. ³² Mais Pierre et ceux qui étaient avec lui étaient accablés de sommeil ; et s'étant réveillés, ils virent sa gloire, et les deux hommes qui étaient avec lui. ³³ Et il arriva que, comme ils se séparaient de lui, Pierre dit à Jésus : Maître, il est bon que nous soyons ici ; faisons trois tentes, une pour toi et une pour Moïse et une pour Elie. Il ne savait ce qu'il disait. ³⁴ Et comme il disait ces choses, il y eut une nuée et elle les couvrait de son ombre ; et ils furent saisis de crainte quand ceux-là entrèrent dans la nuée. ³⁵ Et une voix sortit de la nuée, disant : Celui-ci est mon Fils, l'élu ; écoutez-le. ³⁶ Et comme la voix se faisait entendre, Jésus se trouva seul. Et eux gardèrent le silence, et ne dirent rien à personne, en ces jours-là, de ce qu'ils avaient vu.
   ³⁷ Or il arriva le jour suivant, comme ils étaient descendus de la montagne, qu'une grande foule vint au-devant de lui. ³⁸ Et voici, un homme de la foule s'écria, disant : Maître, je te prie, jette les yeux sur mon fils ; car c'est mon fils unique. ³⁹ Et voici, un esprit se saisit de lui, et aussitôt il crie ; et il l'agite violemment, le fait écumer, et à peine le quitte-t-il en le brisant. ⁴⁰ Et j'ai prié tes disciples de le chasser, mais ils n'ont pu. ⁴¹ Et Jésus répondant, dit : génération incrédule et perverse, jusqu'à quand serai-je avec vous et vous supporterai-je ? Amène ici ton fils. ⁴² Et tandis qu'il approchait, le démon le jeta par terre, et l'agita violemment. Mais Jésus réprimanda l'esprit impur, et guérit l'enfant, et le rendit à son père. ⁴³ Et tous étaient frappés de la grandeur de Dieu.
Et comme tous étaient dans l'admiration de tout ce que Jésus faisait, il dit à ses disciples :
   ⁴⁴ Pour vous, écoutez bien ces paroles : Le fils de l'homme doit être livré entre les mains des hommes. ⁴⁵ Mais eux ne comprenaient point cette parole ; et elle leur était cachée, afin qu'ils ne la saisissent pas ; et ils craignaient de l'interroger au sujet de cette parole.
   ⁴⁶ Or il survint entre eux une discussion : lequel d'entre eux était le plus grand. ⁴⁷ Mais Jésus, voyant la pensée de leur coeur, prit un petit enfant et le plaça auprès de lui, ⁴⁸ et il leur dit : Quiconque recevra cet enfant en mon nom, me recevra ; et quiconque me reçoit, reçoit Celui qui m'a envoyé ; car celui qui est le plus petit entre vous tous, celui-là est grand. ⁴⁹ Et Jean, prenant la parole, dit : Maître, nous avons vu quelqu'un qui chassait des démons en ton nom, et nous l'avons empêché, parce qu'il ne te suit pas avec nous. ⁵⁰ Mais Jésus lui dit : Ne l'empêchez point ; car celui qui n'est pas contre vous est pour vous.

   ⁵⁷ Et comme ils étaient en chemin, quelqu'un lui dit : Je te suivrai partout où tu iras. ⁵⁸ Et Jésus lui dit : Les renards ont des tanières et les oiseaux du ciel des nids ; mais le fils de l'homme n'a pas où reposer sa tête. ⁵⁹ Et il dit à un autre : Suis-moi. Mais celui-ci dit : Seigneur, permets-moi d'aller d'abord ensevelir mon père. ⁶⁰ Mais Jésus lui dit : Laisse les morts ensevelir leurs morts ; mais toi, va, annonce le royaume de Dieu. ⁶¹ Et un autre aussi lui dit : Je te suivrai, Seigneur, mais permets-moi de prendre d'abord congé de ceux qui sont dans ma maison. ⁶² Mais Jésus lui dit : Nul homme qui a mis la main à la charrue et qui regarde en arrière, n'est propre au royaume de Dieu.

Luc 10

   ¹ Or, après cela, le Seigneur désigna encore soixante et dix autres disciples, et il les envoya deux à deux devant lui, dans toute ville et tout lieu où lui-même devait aller. ² Et il leur disait : La moisson est grande, mais il y a peu d'ouvriers ; priez donc le Maître de la moisson qu'il envoie des ouvriers dans sa moisson. ³ Partez ; voici, je vous envoie comme des agneaux au milieu des loups. ⁴ Ne portez ni bourse, ni sac, ni chaussures, et ne saluez personne en chemin. ⁵ Et dans quelque maison que vous entriez, dites d'abord : Paix à cette maison ! ⁶ Et s'il y a là un enfant de paix, votre paix reposera sur lui ; sinon, elle reviendra à vous. ⁷ Et demeurez dans cette maison-là, mangeant et buvant de ce qu'il y a chez eux ; car l'ouvrier est digne de son salaire. Ne passez point de maison en maison. ⁸ Et, dans quelque ville que vous entriez, si l'on vous y reçoit, mangez ce qui vous sera présenté, ⁹ et guérissez les malades qui s'y trouveront, et dites-leur : Le royaume de Dieu s'est approché de vous. ¹⁰ Mais dans quelque ville que vous entriez, si l'on ne vous y reçoit pas, sortez sur ses places publiques, et dites : ¹¹ Nous secouons contre vous la poussière même de votre ville qui s'est attachée à nos pieds ; sachez toutefois ceci, c'est que le royaume de Dieu s'est approché. ¹² Or, je vous dis qu'en ce jour-là le sort de Sodome sera plus supportable que celui de cette ville-là. ¹³ Malheur à toi, Chorazin ! malheur à toi, Bethsaïda ! Car si les miracles qui ont été faits au milieu de vous avaient été faits dans Tyr et dans Sidon, il y a longtemps qu'elles se seraient repenties, en s'asseyant dans le sac et la cendre. ¹⁴ Aussi le sort de Tyr et de Sidon sera plus supportable que le vôtre au jugement. ¹⁵ Et toi, Capernaüm, qui as été élevée jusqu'au ciel, tu seras abaissée jusqu'au séjour des morts. ¹⁶ Qui vous écoute m'écoute, et qui vous rejette me rejette : et qui me rejette, rejette Celui qui m'a envoyé.

   ¹ And it came to pass afterward, that he went throughout every city and village, preaching and shewing the glad tidings of the kingdom of God: and the twelve were with him, ² And certain women, which had been healed of evil spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom went seven devils, ³ And Joanna the wife of Chuza Herod's steward, and Susanna, and many others, which ministered unto him of their substance.
   ⁴ And when much people were gathered together, and were come to him out of every city, he spake by a parable: ⁵ A sower went out to sow his seed: and as he sowed, some fell by the way side; and it was trodden down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. ⁶ And some fell upon a rock; and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away, because it lacked moisture. ⁷ And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprang up with it, and choked it. ⁸ And other fell on good ground, and sprang up, and bare fruit an hundredfold. And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him. ²⁶ And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which is over against Galilee. ²⁷ And when he went forth to land, there met him out of the city a certain man, which had devils long time, and ware no clothes, neither abode in any house, but in the tombs. ²⁸ When he saw Jesus, he cried out, and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God most high? I beseech thee, torment me not. ²⁹ (For he had commanded the unclean spirit to come out of the man. For oftentimes it had caught him: and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters; and he brake the bands, and was driven of the devil into the wilderness.) ³⁰ And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him. ³¹ And they besought him that he would not command them to go out into the deep. ³² And there was there an herd of many swine feeding on the mountain: and they besought him that he would suffer them to enter into them. And he suffered them. ³³ Then went the devils out of the man, and entered into the swine: and the herd ran violently down a steep place into the lake, and were choked. ³⁴ When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country. ³⁵ Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. ³⁶ They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed. ³⁷ Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again. ³⁸ Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, ³⁹ Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.
   ⁴⁰ And it came to pass, that, when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him: for they were all waiting for him. ⁴¹ And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house: ⁴² For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him. ⁴³ And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, ⁴⁴ Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. ⁴⁵ And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? ⁴⁶ And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. ⁴⁷ And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. ⁴⁸ And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace. ⁴⁹ While he yet spake, there cometh one from the ruler of the synagogue's house, saying to him, Thy daughter is dead; trouble not the Master. ⁵⁰ But when Jesus heard it, he answered him, saying, Fear not: believe only, and she shall be made whole. ⁵¹ And when he came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, save Peter, and James, and John, and the father and the mother of the maiden. ⁵² And all wept, and bewailed her: but he said, Weep not; she is not dead, but sleepeth. ⁵³ And they laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead. ⁵⁴ And he put them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying, Maid, arise. ⁵⁵ And her spirit came again, and she arose straightway: and he commanded to give her meat. ⁵⁶ And her parents were astonished: but he charged them that they should tell no man what was done.

   ¹ Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. ² And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick. ³ And he said unto them, Take nothing for your journey, neither staves, nor scrip, neither bread, neither money; neither have two coats apiece. ⁴ And whatsoever house ye enter into, there abide, and thence depart. ⁵ And whosoever will not receive you, when ye go out of that city, shake off the very dust from your feet for a testimony against them. ⁶ And they departed, and went through the towns, preaching the gospel, and healing every where. ⁷ Now Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was done by him: and he was perplexed, because that it was said of some, that John was risen from the dead; ⁸ And of some, that Elias had appeared; and of others, that one of the old prophets was risen again. ⁹ And Herod said, John have I beheaded: but who is this, of whom I hear such things? And he desired to see him.
   ¹⁰ And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida. ¹¹ And the people, when they knew it, followed him: and he received them, and spake unto them of the kingdom of God, and healed them that had need of healing. ¹² And when the day began to wear away, then came the twelve, and said unto him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the towns and country round about, and lodge, and get victuals: for we are here in a desert place. ¹³ But he said unto them, Give ye them to eat. And they said, We have no more but five loaves and two fishes; except we should go and buy meat for all this people. ¹⁴ For they were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them sit down by fifties in a company. ¹⁵ And they did so, and made them all sit down. ¹⁶ Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and brake, and gave to the disciples to set before the multitude. ¹⁷ And they did eat, and were all filled: and there was taken up of fragments that remained to them twelve baskets.
   ¹⁸ And it came to pass, as he was alone praying, his disciples were with him: and he asked them, saying, Whom say the people that I am? ¹⁹ They answering said, John the Baptist; but some say, Elias; and others say, that one of the old prophets is risen again. ²⁰ He said unto them, But whom say ye that I am? Peter answering said, The Christ of God. ²¹ And he straitly charged them, and commanded them to tell no man that thing; ²² Saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be slain, and be raised the third day. ²³ And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. ²⁴ For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it. ²⁵ For what is a man advantaged, if he gain the whole world, and lose himself, or be cast away? ²⁶ For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels. ²⁷ But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.
   ²⁸ And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. ²⁹ And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering. ³⁰ And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: ³¹ Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem. ³² But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. ³³ And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said. ³⁴ While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud. ³⁵ And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him. ³⁶ And when the voice was past, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it close, and told no man in those days any of those things which they had seen.
   ³⁷ And it came to pass, that on the next day, when they were come down from the hill, much people met him. ³⁸ And, behold, a man of the company cried out, saying, Master, I beseech thee, look upon my son: for he is mine only child. ³⁹ And, lo, a spirit taketh him, and he suddenly crieth out; and it teareth him that he foameth again, and bruising him hardly departeth from him. ⁴⁰ And I besought thy disciples to cast him out; and they could not. ⁴¹ And Jesus answering said, O faithless and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and suffer you? Bring thy son hither. ⁴² And as he was yet a coming, the devil threw him down, and tare him. And Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him again to his father.
   ⁴³ And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they wondered every one at all things which Jesus did, he said unto his disciples, ⁴⁴ Let these sayings sink down into your ears: for the Son of man shall be delivered into the hands of men. ⁴⁵ But they understood not this saying, and it was hid from them, that they perceived it not: and they feared to ask him of that saying. ⁴⁶ Then there arose a reasoning among them, which of them should be greatest. ⁴⁷ And Jesus, perceiving the thought of their heart, took a child, and set him by him, ⁴⁸ And said unto them, Whosoever shall receive this child in my name receiveth me: and whosoever shall receive me receiveth him that sent me: for he that is least among you all, the same shall be great. ⁴⁹ And John answered and said, Master, we saw one casting out devils in thy name; and we forbad him, because he followeth not with us. ⁵⁰ And Jesus said unto him, Forbid him not: for he that is not against us is for us.

And they went to another village.
   ⁵⁷ And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. ⁵⁸ And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head. ⁵⁹ And he said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father. ⁶⁰ Jesus said unto him, Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God. ⁶¹ And another also said, Lord, I will follow thee; but let me first go bid them farewell, which are at home at my house. ⁶² And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

Luc 10

   ¹ After these things the LORD appointed other seventy also, and sent them two and two before his face into every city and place, whither he himself would come. ² Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. ³ Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. ⁴ Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. ⁵ And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. ⁶ And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. ⁷ And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. ⁸ And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: ⁹ And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. ¹⁰ But into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you not, go your ways out into the streets of the same, and say, ¹¹ Even the very dust of your city, which cleaveth on us, we do wipe off against you: notwithstanding be ye sure of this, that the kingdom of God is come nigh unto you. ¹² But I say unto you, that it shall be more tolerable in that day for Sodom, than for that city. ¹³ Woe unto thee, Chorazin! woe unto thee, Bethsaida! for if the mighty works had been done in Tyre and Sidon, which have been done in you, they had a great while ago repented, sitting in sackcloth and ashes. ¹⁴ But it shall be more tolerable for Tyre and Sidon at the judgment, than for you. ¹⁵ And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted to heaven, shalt be thrust down to hell. ¹⁶ He that heareth you heareth me; and he that despiseth you despiseth me; and he that despiseth me despiseth him that sent me.
   ¹⁷ And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. ¹⁸ And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. ¹⁹ Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. ²⁰ Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. ²¹ In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. ²² All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him. ²³ And he turned him unto his disciples, and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that ye see: ²⁴ For I tell you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
   ²⁵ And, behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? ²⁶ He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? ²⁷ And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. ²⁸ And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live. ²⁹ But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbour? ³⁰ And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. ³¹ And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. ³² And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
